Jb now or wait. - HTC EVO 3D

I just recently obtained a-off and have been rocking meanrom ics and have been loving my extra battery life. I am considering moving to jb but don't know whether to wait or if there are some solid options ready?

Depends on what features you are willing to give up. But in terms of stability and having a daily driver, I would hold off a little longer. Maybe try a few other ICS roms...

More just looking for battery life and performance. I like both sense and aosp. Just noticed that meanrom isn't really getting any updates.

As of right now they have a couple like aokp dirty jb and gangnam that are almost daily. The cameras are completely borked. 4g is down of course.

Thinking about ics

Its been awhile since I have browsed the sgs2 forums and I stop in and notice ics is all over here. So I'm thinking of upgrading my girls s2 to 4.0 and I want opinions and stability and function of the current roms.
I'm leaning towards aokp or cm9. I have cm9 on my note and a500 so I'm fond of it obviously.
Coming from gb rooted w/ cwm full wipe and good to go I assume? I ask because in the n7k forum the leaked kernals suck and there were all these stupid methods for going from gb to ics...
Anyway thanks.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Yup full wipe. I am not running either of those ROM's so cant comment on them. I have been following Task's AOKP thread. That may be the next one I try.
If you'd like to try a Samsung based rom, give ShoStock2 a try. It's the best I've ever tried.

Ultimatum and SHOstock are excellent. AOKP is pretty sweet too.

ICS is well worth the upgrade
I've been running CM9 since the first nightly. I love it. Haven't had any issues.

I've been running aokp for a few weeks and love it so far. It has been pretty stable and fast as hell. I'm sure things are even better in the latest build, but I haven't flashed yet.
Its like when GB became available and everyone was still on Froyo- once you open the desert and have a taste, your likely not gonna go back. And now that video recording is fixed- its all gravy baby
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Definitely go with AOKP, it's stable, fast, full of features, and rocks great battery life.
The only benefit of the Samsung ICS is MHL.

If MHL is a must, i think you're stuck with TW for now. My final choice was between aokp and cm9. Check the support/discussion threads, big difference...
No need for MHL I just want a stable ics rom for her because her miui rom is buggy as heck.
Thanks guys ill keep watching the dev section. For me aokp and cm9 are really similar so it just comes down to battery life and stability which is different for each person.

Aokp all the way baby, super stable and awesome battery. Way better than gb

I've been using shoshock lastest gingerbread build. it's great. I'm waiting for a while.
Running AOKP and it's running great.
Just flash Siyah's kernel and go for dual boot to check both Samsung and AOKP/CM9 roms together.
I've been running CM9 since the first nightly. I love it. My phone feels brand new and I don't feel like upgrade it, except I want LTE.
Thanks everyone. I flashed aokp for the extra settings and customization. Its been super stable so far and battery is good but will be better once it settles. Might try siyah might not???
Anyone recommend a Better modem? Have you been getting batter with gb ones or ics ones.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
I'd go with CM9 nightlies simply because it's supported by ROM Manager which makes it ridiculously easy to flash new updates, which come very fast by the way...plus it's CM9. Good luck.
Cm9 is nice I use it on my tablet and note but lacks some features I know my girl requires.

I tested the latest LD3 but decided to change back to LC5, it is faster than the old modems and seems more stable in my area. I have been running AOKP for a while and love it.
I am enjoying CM9. Lots of Entropy involvement. Good team working on it.

So what are are thoughts about ICS so far?

What the title says.
From what I read, the leak isn't running quicker than meanrom. Personally I'm just going to wait for the official since I rely on roaming. What do you guys think about ICS so far?

I feel like ics is amazing and you're missing out on alot! Don't flash the firmware and you shouldn't have an issue with roaming, as far as I know. ICS has brought alot of nice improvements. I say flash it and just give it a try for yourself man.
I went from mean to clean and I love the Ics and sense 3.6 combination. Battery life is definitely better

Definitely an improvement, battery life seems to be better than almost any GB rom I had (aside from CM7 & og Anthrax RLS9). It's nice to have working ICS roms with WiMax though!

I have yet to mess around with the official ICS ROM due to my carrier not providing it yet. But from what I have seen it looks awesome and can't wait to test it out. I am currently playing with the ICS NonSense RC1 ROM by VladBelsky, I love the stock look and feel of ICS.
like ics. dislike sense 3.6. wish we had 4.0
I think people tend to exaggerate about how much better it is.
It's a definite improvement, but, if it had the same menus/look as GB.. You wouldn't really notice much difference. It's still worth using tho
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D using xda premium
It breathed new life into the Evo 3d. I still dislike sense but it will be enough to hold me over until the next Nexus.
Aside from my personal dislike of sense it does run great though. I wish they didn't ugly up the notification bar and change around the settings but for the most part sense doesn't detract from the ICS experience. Battery life is exceptional and it seems to perform better at stock clock speeds than any other rom I have used @ 1.7ghz.
I roamed a bit yesterday and don't seem to get data while I'm roaming but that could be an issue on my part or area.

If you've flashed the virgin mobile firmware, thats why.
i haven't had much of an enjoyable experience so far, i don't really have signal issues unless you include occasional LoS but no notice in decrease of signal strength.
I'm mostly disappointed with the mobile network settings missing that would allow me to enable data roaming, i have flashed Chubbzlou's Booster but that begins to FC and have performance issues after a day or 2 with the annoyance of Bluetooth issues.
not to trash one ROM, they all so far have the same issues and i can't find one to make my daily.
i am looking forward to sense 3.6 as it looks really good and has some great features.
i will politely and contently await the sprint leak or the official release, hopefully the firmware release included with the sprint leak will fix my "virgin mobile" banner

Low frequencies=better battery

I dont see how ICS could be any more fluid... ICS with sense fragments still left in it runs perfect even at 800mhz. I don't see how it could be any better!

Faster performance has the potential to increase battery life. If you can get the same task done in half the time, you return to idle faster, and this conserve power.

It depends if she likes sense or not. I've been running eternity which is a sense 3.5 rom which runs excellent, stable and fast. And for aosp I've run thundershed cm7.2. Very quick and stable. Another cm7.2 based rom to check is the new rom zombie. I just loaded it up and so far is awesome. Has a nice red theme to it.

That 3.5 Rom drains crazier then a rat in outhouse. In ten minutes lost 10% then lost more about the same rate. This Rom needs to be fixed.as that is not stable. Seems as is stock os the best on the battery, and that is sad. Also your my Verizon app won't work which is another area of concern with limited data and shared plans we need to have an app that works. UNACCeptable people to have those two issues. My Verizon app is not.bloate as it gives vital account information.

You force me to agree with the troll, damn it! I have to qualify your statement with: 'which eternity'? I was very happy with 248 but when I updated to my battery life dropped down to 5 - 6 hours(!) with no change in the setup.
I'm getting over 14 hours of battery life with Gingeritis 3d by comparison and the phone is getting the same or more use.

Yes, r248 had better battery life then the latest test builds.
Why is that you ask?
As I stated in the Eternity thread, the newest build has a test kernel from Ziggy based on the latest OTA, as is the new test build Rom.
That kernel has an identified and known issue where the Performance and On Demand governor are locked at Max, no matter what you do.
The solution:
Change governor to Lag Free, or install Imos 6.2 kernel for Mr4 based roms, or the Bamf 3++ kernel.
Then apply your preferred CPU settings.
Battery use should return to as good or Better then r248.
The new kernel in the Rom is being reworked currently to resolve the issue.
So, the concern is with the kernel, more so then the Rom.
As far as Gingeritis having better battery life, I don't doubt that any Sense 3.5 Rom is going to be somewhat more draining on our devices/batteries.
Im talking about r248 but i still had decent battery on the test builds.

Your explanation is very much appreciated but......
I never thought I'd say this and it's subject to change from hour to hour...... I'm pretty much stuck on Gingeritis 3D, getting up in the AM, subjecting the phone to fairly heavy use and seeing 50% battery or more remaining when I go to bed is something I thought I'd never see after abandoning my BB for Android and.....
I seem to have lost my enthusiasm for messing with this phone for some reason? Every thing works now with Thunderstick BB or Eternity or Liquid or ???? and the only reason I change from one ROM to another is some minor annoyances and battery life so.... I think maybe I'll leave well enough alone.
I'm saving my flashing desires for when the devs get ICS with Sense 4.x, I'll don't think I'll flash ICS with Sense 3.x and I might just wait for Jellybean?
I have about forever left on my contract and then we'll see what's up.
So it changed as I said it might! Tried the Bamf kernel and battery life is back to normal.
Up until yesterday I had been running the Thunderstick GenII rom for the last 6-7 months (been running Thunderstick roms since last September..when Verizon bricked my phone with their update). It is a very stable Sense rom, and the only issue I had with it was my custom ring tones would sometimes get confused. The only reason I upgraded was to try something new (now running Thunderstick FullBlown) and I am half tempted to go back to the GenII just because it has some features I like that the FullBlown version does not.
Been running ThunderStick ROMS (FB, BB) for a good while... They just work on my phone. YMMV. Flashed SfKCM7 (AOSP) last nite and it runs real smooth... Gonna ride with this til I get the itch

Their Bistro for mods is cool too
I was going to go to MeanBean. However, not sure about this Tranquility ROM. Is it even on XDA? Is it heavily themed or more stock? I am giving my phone to my father-in-law and want him to have a good ROM that just works and is close to stock in look.
just going to chime in here, if youre looking for a stock rom best bet is build yourself. it's easy enough to do if you follow some steps. sense isnt really stock imo
if youre looking for something nice to run theres plenty of roms out. best advice is try em all.
Another vote for Tranquility. I've run MeanBean for a while and it was good. Tranquility seems slightly smoother and the theming is excellent. Tranquility was on XDA, but they removed it. Now it's on www.themikmik.com
I did add Zepplinrox multitasking mod, which Mean bean already has in it. Makes a noticeable difference, especially with Sense reloads.
Is tranquility stock looking? On mikmik, it looks heavily themed.

Think I'm going to give MeanBean a shot, working on backing everything up right now.
My biggest concern is battery life, I don't sit on my phone all day so I'm mostly concerned with how the phone behaves while the screen is off; though I do like a smooth experience when it's on.
I'll post back with my initial impression of MeanBean and my experience with the battery once I've had long enough to establish a norm.
-- Question from me. Anyone recommend a kernel over the stock kernel? Maybe something with better governors or fastcharge?

For your situation I would go with OMJ 2.2. It is an ICS rom but runs super smoothe, fast, and has exceptional battery life, and everything works. OMJ also has a later version 2.6 which uses Aroma so you can customize yourself.
