My Note was running ICS installed from Kies. I attempted to root via You Tube video. I flashed a .tar file via odin that was intended for a Note on Gingerbread. Now I am stuck on the Samsung breathing screen. I am able to boot into download mode so I think there is hope... I have searched the forums and think I just need to flash stock ICS kernel but can find it??? Links? Thanks in advance.

I found the stock ATT Kernel unzipped it, installed it through Odin. It put me back to Gingerbread. Currently installing ICS through Kies.
It appears that you are up and running again....please look at the "note super everything thread" located at the top of the general section..
There you will find all of the current rooting, flashing threads for your device....
Then read, read, read, and read some more so you fully understand the process, and could do it in your sleep. "Then" you will be ready to jump into kernels, modems, and custom roms....
And for future reference, Please stay away from youtube as an instructional video.....while they make for good entertainment, they often lack the technical side of the installation process, and can leave out important steps in the process...getting users jammed up with no help available...
We are happy to help you here, anytime......g

Hey,
Ive been searching for 6 hours now and i still haven't found the solution to my problem.
My problem:
Today i got my Samsung Galaxy S2, so i wanted to put a custom ROM on it using this guide: http://www.redmondpie.com/install-cm7-on-galaxy-s2-using-rom-manager-how-to-tutorial/.
Firstly i rooter my phone without a problem. After that i followed the guide. This was no problem untill i had to: 'Launch ROM Manager and tap on Flash ClockworkMod Recovery and pick Samsung Galaxy S II from the list of compatible smartphones.' There was an error in recovery mode about verification.
After this i flashed my phone with clockworkMod-Recover to be able to put of verification. When i toggled it off i tried to update my phone to CM7 wich was on my sd card.
When i tried rebooting now it was stuck on loading screen with the well-known yelolow triangle.
I tried everything (including: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499 -> did everything perfectly). I tried to flash other stuff. But still same problem i wiped it a lot, still nothing.
I can acces download and recovery mode without any problems. i even flashed the phone to the stock kernel (Kernel_I9100XWKI4). so now i dont have a yellow triangle but still stuck at boot screen.
I am desperate and depressed that my expensive phone wont boot up. Can anyone please help me out i'm even willing to pay the one who helps me out.
Thanks in advance!

Tried this a lot, doesnt fix it.
1) Get the right CF Kernel from the Chainfire kernel thread in the Android Original Development Thread. Extract the zip to get a TAR and extract the TAR to get a z-image file. Also download the corresponding original stock kernel from the Intratech thread in the same section.
2) Flash the TAR in PDA using Odin. Do not click repartition. This lets you boot with with functional Root and CWM.
3) If you want to get rid of the yellow triangle, then load the z-image file into /sdcard. Reboot into download mode and use Odin to flash the stock kernel (again in the PDA without repartition). After that, go to the CWM app, choose flash kernel and locate the zimage and proceed.
NB: You can read Chainfire and Intratechs threads in case I was vague somewhere.
Installing CM
1) After all this, put the latest nightly into /sdcard
2) Boot into recovery.
3) Clear Data, Cache, Dalvik Cache (in advanced). Go to install Zip-->Choose Zip from SD card--> Choose the CM7 nightyl file.
4) Flash is twice i.e consecutively. The first time, it just takes like a second to flash, the second time will be the complete install. No idea why this happens or whether its been fixed now.
5) Reboot.
The next time, dont google for this type of Info. The XDA forums has everything you need and a good search engine too.
Let me know if you still have issues.
Cheers.
EDIT: RomManager works best on CM7 only. I suggest that you keep it that way. It does not work with the basic stock rooted CF Kernels as is mentioned on his thread.

I allready get stuck on the first thing, i flashed the CF kernel with Odin and after this he wont boot so i cant procede. This is my problem he just doesnt wanna boot.
I dont want any custom ROM's anymore i just want the default phone back. This is a disaster.
Did you choose the right CF Kernel. It has to be chosen to be inline with the Kernel version that came with your phone. As you've not managed to flash a modded kernel, you will still be on the same kernel that came along with you phone. You cant choose any CF Kernel that you like.
You've mentioned Kernel_I9100XWKI4. Is this the same that came with the phone or did you pick some random kernel?
Another option is to try that android recovery, but Im not familiar with it and its options.
I had the same issue as you when I was playing around with cutom kernels and CWM

Yes that is the original one (I9100XWKI4). I am also not familiar with android recovery.
Ok, if its KI4, then theres a Ki4 for Gingerbread 2.3.4 and another for 2.3.5. You have to choose the right one

I tried both, none worked :s
Then I think its best that you head over to Intratechs thread, a new firmware itself and flash it over. As you say KI4, download XWKI4 2.3.4, both the OXX multi CSC and the stock kernel and reflash your whole firmware as per the instructions in the thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Also make sure that Samsung Kies is not running anywhere. Kill it in processes and do not let it boot in msconfig.

None required mate. If you are still interested in rooting, follow the instructions Id mentioned in my first post using the CF KI4 Kernel for 2.3.4 and you should be fine.
As an alternative custom rom to CM7, check out GingerMod, I can vouch for it.

Can someone post step by step instructions for flashing stock bootloader? One of the first things that I did to my SGS2 I777 was download leaked version of 2.3.5. I downloaded the i777 UCKH7 sbl.tar but I am obviously missing something as I can't even get this to open. I have flashed other things with odin such as Entropy512's stock kernel and unnamed rom v1.3.1 and I have never had a problem. What am I missing?
Hit the stickies dude....its all in there. Read carefully.

If you installed these two files, it was with ClockworkMod Recovery, not odin. There is no odin flashable .tar file for either of these. A statement like this indicates that you need to do some reading.
The implication of your post is that the first thing you did with your phone was to flash the 2.3.5 leak (I'm guessing UCKJ2) without having a clue what your were doing. You may not get too much sympathy here. But if you will give more details of your situation and problem, I'll try to help.
Thanks for the reply. I have been doing that but I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. I'll keep looking. Thanks again.

I have read alot about this as I am trying to learn about android (noob). I can not learn everything right away, but I will keep reading and learning as time goes by. Obviously there is alot to learn. You answered my question. I really do appreciate your reply. In the future I will try to explain the situation better. Yes I did install 2.3.5 which changed the bootloader and was confused about this file so I asked before screwing up my phone. From your response, maybe I will just live with the new bootloader. Thanks again.
There's always some risk flashing bootloaders. If you leave the modified bootloader, the only difference I know about is that you will not be able to reset the flash counter with a jig. Other than that, it probably doesn't matter. If you want to flash the sbl.tar file, you would do that with Odin3 version 1.85 or 1.82. Put the tar file in the PDA slot.

Thanks for your help. I decided to flash the sbl.tar file through odin and everything went perfectly. I was able to use my usb jig to reset the counter. Now I have unnamed rom (which I love) zero counter and no exclamation point. Thanks so much for your time!!
Can't seem to find a link to download the stock rom for the US 5.0 Galaxy Player. I flashed a new rom thinking I did a CWM backup, but apparently I only thought I did.
I've searched around and can't seem to find an ODIN tar or a ZIP that I can flash for the US version other than a file hosted on Multiupload which no longer works. I didn't post in general being that this seems more Development related.
If anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it.
....................
EDIT: It was a pain to find, but I found the multiupload link, googled it, found the cached page, found the name of the file, googled the name of the file and downloaded from fileserve. I then uploaded to my server. You can download it from there if anyone needs it.

Thank you for finding it. I would like to ask you if you have tried it already.
I don't flash custom ROMs because
until now, I didn't have a stock recovery ROM to restore in case something goes wrong or I didn't like the new ROM. And I don't think Best Buy would want to replace a device with a cracked screen if custom software is installed.
Please, let me know.
Thank you in advance.

I have tried it. I just flashed back to stock. I had to Wipe data via CWM before flashing back. On the first boot it took me to Stock recovery where I wiped data and wiped the cache. It's now working perfect.
As far as I know there seems to only be one custom rom for the US 5.0. Various kernels to try though.
So, in case I just want to restore to stock with the file you made available, I need to have a custom kernel so I can use CWM?, or I can do it from the stock recovery window?.
And the only two options to flash a kernel and a ROM I see for the SGP 5.0 are "Entropy's Daily Driver" and "Eryigit-GB-2.3.6 G70ZCKPA ROM", have you found other options?
Thank you.

Normally you only need to flash the pda, but if you want to re-partition your device then use the pit file as well.

Welcome to the Dev section for the Galaxy Player. This is for development, not for installation help. You should be able to ask in General.
Flashing ROMs can be scary at first, but the Dev board is best left for software development, feedback, etc. It makes it easier for the Devs not to have to wade through a field of nonsense.
tl;dr:
Post questions in General, not in Dev. It's a common mistake, don't worry too much.

Hi!
I just tried with the XXLQ7 kernel, and it worked for me. did you enter the password when extracting the zip?
anyway: there are easier ways to root than this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20075898&postcount=8
these kernels are prerooted and come with SuperUser App, BusyBox support and CWM*. And you don't need to use that "Samsung Quick Root" thingie. just flash the kernel in odin, the same way the other guide explained. (sidenote: afaik it doesn't have to be the exact same kernel (e.g. XXLQ7 or whatever) but only the same android version. no ICS kernel on GB rom but else you should be fine. if possible use one with v5.5 or 5.6)
if you really can't get odin to work (I guess you are using v.1.85), search for it on google, and use the newest version. (mine is 3.04, maybe there's a newer one alerady.) I've never heard of that problem, but one never knows.
*an app, very handy for backups!
ok so i was trying to flash a new modem to my note and accidentally flashed the wrong file now it wont boot but odin still recognizes it. im in need of a stock odin tar to flash via odin to see if it will fix my brick but all the links im finding on the forum are dead.
if anyone has a copy of ANY ROM stock, non stock, rooted, unrooted whatever i would really appreciate the upload!!!!

you did not list your carrier or device in your post, but there is a whole list of options here. I have myself scanned through list and yes am aware many of links are dead, yet this was the 2nd one I checked.
if this is for your device and what you are looking for then you are ready to go.
here is the thread containing the file, first link is up

if not, check the last post in this thread. you will find a link provided from "developweb", see if that is what you are looking for, be sure to hit his thanks button. I am not going to send one of my files, again simply, because you have not told anyone device or carrier. you have already flashed wrong file once and I don't know how, but I don't want to be responsible for anyone bricking their device.
you have been a member long enough to know what information folks need and long enough to know to read. if you can provide this information, then maybe I can help you further if needed.
good luck and keep us posted
