[Q] [Help] How can I get back my efs - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, there:
After flashed one ROM, my GSM became to out-of-work. Then, I realized that I never back up my /efs file system. :'(
Is there anybody can tell me how can I fix this issue? Thanks. Someone said, I can use KTool to restore /efs, but the question is where I can get one? :crying:

Backups are important. Also, make sure to transfer your backups to your computer!
What model is your tablet? This is probably important.

You can try to do a full flash with Odin.
I had this problem with my Galaxy S I9000 after flashing MIUI.
After i flashed a 3-part stock-firmware with Odin the folder was back and IMEI has been restored.

[Q] Unable to connect to network despite correct IMEI and serial number?

Hello All.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 international (GT-I9300 - OS 4.0.4 - I9300DXLE8 baseband) I applied a ROM update (4.2.1) and lost signal. I then flashed again using various ROMS but nothing. I did some research about the EFS folder and using the XXEMG4 modem binary to get the IMEI number back from the generic one but now I cannot connect to any of the mobile carriers that are found. I have to admit, before I discovered the XXEMG4 issue (from a thread here) I did (mistakenly) look in to the EFS folder and I confess I most likely have messed that up and that may be the reason I cannot get a signal any further even though I can get the correct IMEI?
Is there anything I can do which would not involve sending the phone to Samsung? Flashing the stock ROM did not fix it and now, I have found, regardless of what ROM I flash, I must also flash the XXEMG4 modem as well otherwise I just get a generic IMEI number. I blame myself and my own stupidity for not reading more about the EFS system first (and not making a backup either) so I just wanted clarification that there is nothing more I can do.
To summarise:
Updated ROM and lost IMEI (generic)
Did not back up EFS folder
Flashed various ROMS - no service & generic IMEI
Flashed ROM with XXEMG4 modem
Phone IMEI is correct but still no service - emergency calls only
Ariza patch did nothing, factory reset does nothing, stock ROM does nothing.
Many thanks for your time.
Install the patched mg4 modem and all should be fixed
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Start from beginning flash leaked firmware via odin from sammobile
Then root by cfroot
Install recovery and then flash custom recovery..
Also if u do have a backup of stock with working imei then u cn restore that if u dnt want to do the odin procedure..
Thanks for the replies but I seem to have fixed it.
I restored back to stock ROM, restored EFS Backup using KTools and restarted the phone and all is well.
I am now backing the phone up completely using EFS Pro.
Many thanks.
If you've corrupted files in the efs folder then no, there is nothing you can do yourself. The repair should not be too expensive as no hardware needed replacing.
Edit. You wrote 'didn't backup efs', but now say you've solved it by restoring your backup -which is the whole point of taking a backup before you flash anything.

[Q] Help with formated EFS partition

Hey, messed up my phone and could really use some help:
I own a Galaxy Note (GT-N7000). Suddenly the IMEI went null/null and baseband unknown. Tried many things to recover from this but nothing seemed to work. I left the phone with the latest stock rom (Jellybean 4.1.2)
I then installed EFS Professional (rooting the phone first and installing BusyBox) and could connect to the phone with EFS Pro. I tried doing baseband and IEMI repair, and though the log showed it had successfully restores from .bak files in /efs partition, IMEI and baseband were still null.
So then I totally screwed it, hitting the "format EFS partition" by mistake (it was 3am by then) and didn't make a backup first. The phone wouldn't boot, so I flashed the latest stock rom again and now it continually loops when showing the Samsung logo when I turn it on. I can turn it on in download mode and recovery mode. When on recovery mode, it says /efs partition not found so I guess that makes sense.
The question here would be: is there any way I can fix it without sending it to service? Some options that sound possible:
- Flash the phone with some other custom ROM that would repartition the whole phone, thus creating an /efs partition again
- Use some nice software to recover the /efs partition
I'm sure that if a service can fix it, there should be a way I could do it as well.
I know my IMEI number (it's in the sticker on the back of the phone) so there should be a way to restore it into de efs partition, right?
Thank you all and forgive me if I've made some noob comment on this post...just doing my best

something like a stock odin flash would fix it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261598 as long as it flashes a pit file
then once that works, see if efs pro will let you manually set the imei.
if not, then make sure you are stock, and make sure you use triangle away or something and then send it in.

Whoaaaa You should STOP ASAP! You can't flash the AT&T firmware via Odin since you have the international version.

I'm from Argentina, this phone is from Movistar carrier. Right now I have the latest stock rom from Movistar flashed, but the rom available does not have any PIT file, so I can't get my efs partition restored and the phone does not boot in normal mode (only download and recovery mode).
As far as I can remember, any phone that works with AT&T in the US works just fine in Argentina with Movistar. I've brought some iPhones from AT&T (not unlocked) and they worked without a problem.
I believe that I have the international version, but what could happen if I flashed the AT&T stock rom?
Thanks!

It's either going to fail at trying to install the modem and do nothing, or it'll make it worse. In no way is it going to help anything.
You should be able to find your firmware here:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Thanks. I had already downloaded the Movistar stock rom from Sammobile and this time I tried flashing it (using Odin) together with the PIT file and though it said something in the result log about using pit file for mapping, result was the same...still stuck with a bad efs partition that makes the booting loop again and again...
Any thoughts? How can I fix my efs partition? Any help is much appreciated.
Not sure there would be much more to do on your own without the official backup without special tools like SPT, Octopus Box, SRS, etc, but those cost more than the phone, so would have to find a shop that has the equipment and is also competent at using them. Many of the major software tools have repos with files like you need and the correct way to load them. I'd love to have one for my shop, but requests to fix stuff like this don't come often enough to justify the expense when there are more pressing matters...
On another forum they were saying that you can use the efs backup from another clean phone because it does not actually contain the IMEI, so if you could find one of those... I tried to download a couple for you yesterday to test but they either failed to open correctly or didn't pass the md5 validity check in Odin, which is why I didn't repost.
I didnt mean flash the rom I linked. That was an example. sorry guys.

Desperate times call for desperate measures
I'm still working on restoring the /efs partition, even with a null IMEI, at least to be able to use the phone with wi-fi for other purposes (if I can't find someone to flash a good efs.img and restore the IMEI completely).
Right now it's still a brick. Will post update soon.
Thank you all!

[Q] Problem with flashing and bootloop

Dear,
I installed 4.4 RC1 PA, per the instructions, however I'm stuck in bootloop. Then I tried to go back to an earlier version, of course with a suitable kernel, but still the same. Then I installed the stock rom 4.1.2, and again repeated bootloop. Finally install the stock ICS, the system is booted, but I do not have a GSM network. Once again I try to install custom, happens to bootloop. Works only stock ICS but without GSM network. Do something was wrong?
Thanks in advance!
I guess your EFS partition got all messed up while flashing. No baseband,no serial,no imei,no signal and so on.Have you made any backup of it?
This EFS thing is tricky.Search around here to get an idea about this.

What you think, is this possible way to fix? I'll try this. http://www.digitalreborn.com/fix-samsung-galaxy-unable-mount-efs/
So I assume you have a backup. There are plenty of tools for restoring it,like the EFS Professional or kTool. If your backup is in either img or tar format, easy way could be restoring it via philz kernel's advanced recovery(if you are using stock jb or ics).

[Q] Cannot restore efs files on i9300, i restored efs on ktool but nothing changed?

Hello xda I am at my wits end over this.
Basically I got sick of stock roms and wanted my phone to be faster so I decided to install cyanogenmod, that was grand. Phone could still send texts and call people. Then I wanted to change to miui, I backed up my efs files with efspro like the step by step guide said and done everything correctly. Once I finished, my efs folder got corrupted because I had the 0049 imei.
Nothing is showing up in efsprofessional for restore. I downloaded a stock 4.3 rom for my phone, it restored my imei code but I didnt have it unlocked. I backed up efs again, flashed to 4.1.1 but I still couldn't restore efs. I downloaded ktool and other programs, it says I restored efs but when I reboot the phone, it doesn't seem to work.
I don't know what to do. I have the backups but it seems like nothing is working. Are older versions of efsprofessional less temperamental? Is there any stock roms that would work better? Any help?
If there is any questions, please ask away. Thank you

Try this patched modem and kernel
Use PhilZ recovery choose wipe to install a new rom in settings then
1.Flash this ROM v5.2; http://echoerom.com/galaxy-s3-gt-i9300/
2.Flash patched kernel mk6; from here https://drive.google.com/folderview...sharing&tid=0B6MIUd7HJudAbU5YaGkzOUowMG8#list
3.Flash patched modem mk6; from here https://drive.google.com/folderview...sharing&tid=0B6MIUd7HJudAbU5YaGkzOUowMG8#list
4.Reboot.
5 Factory reset if bootloop

[Q] E970 cannot flash ATT-JB radio or return to stock using LGNPST

I'm trying to return to stock after having upgraded my phone to CM12. At first, I tried to flash the ATT-JB radio and the stock JB zip; the JB rom works, but my cellular modem is non-functional. Since then, I've tried flashing the original V10o as well as the V20j TOTs using LGNPST, but flashing either will lead to a freeze after the ATT boot animation.
Does anyone know why I'm unable to use the ATT-JB radio and/or why I'm unable to flash back to stock using the TOTs?
I've learned a bit more about the problem and now it's even more confusing. For a start, I think my EFS partitions may have been corrupted. BT MAC address and IMEI are now 0 / unavailable. However, I notice that I can still make calls and access data fine IF I use the W84C27MO84 radio, but not any of the others. Can anyone shed any light on my situation? Can I still recover my EFS partition contents, or am I SOL without a backup?

If your EFS Partition has indeed been corrupted and you backed up your original EFS partition before it got corrupted then you should be able to restore it via freegee. If you did not do a backup before it got corrupted then I do not think there is anything you could do.
