Relock without fastboot - HTC Rezound

M moms rezound broke. Well just the charging port so I cant hook up to PC to use fast boot and do that writesecureflag3 command. I don't want to send this thing back s-off.
Is there a way to brick it? With a ph98img.zip file?

Just send it the people who receive them don't give a ****. They just load the correct software on it and go to the next phone...I and many other people have done this a bazillion times. In fact I've never returned a phone that wasn't rooted AND running a custom rom.

So no one had an issue returning a Rezound that was unlocked through HTC's website but then relocked before returning? They don't check to see if it says re-locked?

In fact, some people have received devices that passed the "100 point inspection" that still had CWM or CyanogenMod still on them

I returned an incredible that still had cwm on it and a rezound that said relocked on it with no problem at all, I wouldn't doubt that they make that statement just to scare you into not doing it.

Jay that's so funny. Why be a smart ass when someone asks a question even if its been asked or answered a million times. It's really uncalled for.
Evo 3D in full Affect
I'd say probably not, since the HTC root is all you need.

I don't see what motivation they would have since HTC already provides an unlock method.

No. HtcDev ONLY. Ever. Or don't root it.
Those be the options set before you.
One more thing I would like to see some light shed on is .....if we use HTC's unlock method it basically voids your warrenty......but if your phone is lost or damaged will it affect a claim through asurion....our TEP...........
what do you guys think???

See i think it voids your warranty with HTC themselves but because you pay for the TEP your all good. I don't think HTC informs Sprint who is eligible and who isn't. But plenty of people here that used HTC's method has gotten a replaces thru asurion. I know that much

I just had my EVO 4G replaced under warranty for a charging issue. Clearly rooted, the sprint tech turned my phone on & said "what in the hell!?" I had a CM7 based, ICS themed ROM on there. Still got replaced. He said i would have to pay to have my phone repaired if it ever needed that because it was rooted.
Guys as far as i noe no root for hboot 1.50 .......wait for ICS update

My concern with the HTC unlock method is that it is one more thing to fix later. It permanently shows the phone was rooted. So, if someone comes along and gets the root working again then what? Suppose next week they say, hey we got Unrevoked to work on the Evo 3d again but if you previously used the HTC method your screwed still.

New OS will most likely have a new HBoot which will relock any one who HTC unlocked in the first place... Crushing root and melting the phone... Causing the world to end by skynet and last but not least zombies................................
There will be a way to get around it... It takes time.... You obviously have forgotten this isn't anyone's job to unlock your phone properly . You bought it knowing it may have 1.5 or got it from insurance... It's the name of the game..... HURRY UP AND WAIT

If you guys read the latest method to unlock 1.5 it isn't all that bad, specially with the in OS application that was built. The warranty void is rubbish, it means nothing to anyone here, and yes you will have s on but everything you can do with s off, you can do with the unlock method.

Yeah when I did it after updating (1.5) accidentally it was not so bad. I mean I have to install with terminal on my computer but its not a bad way. Just 2 lines of typing to launch recovery. If there is a fix cool but if not I can live without it. Cheers.

[Q] I have a situation

My Amaze 4g is rooted and rom'd etc.
A couple days ago the screen died. Like, it did something kinda of weird (flashed some grayish type colors) and then turned off. The phone still works etc but the screen is dead.
So, I can get a replacement phone but it is rooted and sending it back is too risky.
Is there anyway that I can restore my phone without having to see the screen?
Or, has anyone heard of this happening etc?
Thanks
You'll have to boot into fastboot and relock the bootloader. It might be a bit difficult to do so without actually being able to see what the screen should be showing, but overall it's a two step process: relock bootloader, load and flash stock RUU
So can you walk me through it? Lol, since I can't see the screen? Like, can you just direct me on what buttons to push.
do you have it insured? Maybe you might lose it tonight?
What i suggest is watch a youtube video on how to relock it and hwo to flash stock RUU adn get the timing.

You might as well just send it back because even if u figure out a way to relock it, it will say "relocked" therefore either way they will kno u unlocked it. But that shouldnt matter because the screen going dead is most likely a hardware issue which if it is it should still be covered by the warranty whether u unlocked it or not

No it only says it "may" void ur warranty.. so as long as the problem wasnt caused by you changing the software, like flashing roms and soforth, then they should still honor the warranty. And to me it sounds like a hardware issue so u should be fine.

Are you sure it's not just the backlight that's out? If it is, you can just grab a really bright flashlight and shine it at an angle, and you might, possibly, be able to see your screen. It will be faint but it might be enough to help you relock it.
Just crack the screen, tmo will charge you 50 bucks extra if the screen is cracked. At least this is what they told me when I had to get a replacement for my wife's phone.

We apologize for the issues you have experienced with the bootloader unlock for your HTC Evo 3D. HTC is aware that some individuals have been having difficulty with the unlock process and is current investigating the issue. At this time, we do not have an estimated time for a resolution.

The reason they made things like that to root was to keep the folks who don't know enough about it from doing it... They get tired of warranty claims when someone bricks a phone because the user had no idea what they are doing.. Same goes for people who overclock and push it too high and burn the cpu up...
Too keep things like that from happening.

That seems like a whole lot of hassle just to prevent a small fraction of it's user base from fully utilizing their phones.
I'm confident that we only take up a small portions of claims in their warranty department. Maybe they should put more effort into making a phone that keeps up with the competition and lasts.

Rezound seems dead

I installed the 20120803 version of CM9 last night and upon reboot, the phone did nothing. The screen didnt turn on and no red light during charging. I left it charging all night and it still doesnt do anything. I connected it to my computer to try to use adb to get it to restart, and the computer doesn't find it.
I checked the battery with a multimeter and it reads 3.7 volts

The latest one from dmeadows' site causes perma brick? I thought it was his own test build he was working on.
on s-off phones, yes, it can brick your phone. s-on phones seem safe. This is only 1 build of aosp that is out there that is doing it. Not sure if that is the version you installed. Call verizon and tell them your phone won't turn on and that you've tried 2 known good batteries.
It was bricked. Went into verizon and ordered a replacement- will be here by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Shouldn't they take that bricking build down or is it not publicly accessible?

It's kind other people's faults if they don't read and download a build which is obviously going to brick (It's been stated across these forums) It's up so people that are S-On can download it it still and see how it runs.
lol
What I read from dmeadows' posts is that a build he was working on caused the brick, not the one that has been available for over a week
It doesn't matter anyhow. It also says flash at your own risk several people bricked.

Advice please, Blown Top speaker...

Hello, i just wanted to ask some advice. I just got my htc one a little over a week ago with tmobile. When i got home the first thing I did was unlock the bootloader and install cwm recovery. Just last night i started to notice my top speaker was making horrible crackling noises and i realized the speaker was blown. What should i do about getting this fixed? I assume that no matter what I do at tmobile they will try and blame it on the bootloader being unlocked, and i am worried that htc will do the same. Has anyone had to deal with anything like this? Any adivice would be greatly appreciated.

I would unroot it and try to lock it back. I don't think it was because of you rooting it since we dont even have SOFF to begin with. I would contact HTC about it and if they noticed it argue with them that you unlocking it couldn't have possibilty done that and it was a hardware problem on their side

HTC on the other hand and Samsung both now require to send device in first before you get a replacement sent ,they figure let them determine wether the owner is wrong right or at fault .
So HTC will see that it's been tampered with because when u relock the bootloader it will never say just locked again it will say relocked
No way around that .
