Hi Guyz,
I am using optimus one for the past 6 months and have 3 major problems..
1. Scrolling in Launcher pro which was silky smooth once upon a time stutters a lot now a days. i tried different roms, posted a thread on this forum , tried the suggestions but still the same issue exists. When the rom is new, before my set of apps are installed, launcher pro works smooth. but once my apps are installed, it gets back to stutter pro. PLease help
2. Battery drain. - I used to get One and half days of battery without the data on. Its been a week since i subscribed to unlimited gprs pack and with the data on, on 2g mode, with auto sync off, my battery s drained a lot. even in stock rom, it went down from 70 percent to 8 percent in 7 hours. with franco kernel. I also tried froyofinal, void, lol, mik gingerbread, stock gingerbread roms and .. same results.... i used facebook and downloaded a lot durin tht 7 hours. is tht normal...?
3. Minor issue.. When i lock the device and then press back key or any other key after the device is locked, for a split second i get to see the desktop and then only the lock screen appears. some times i used to see a blurred dotted image(we get it wen the cable connection is off). and then the lock screen. This issue exists in stock rom with franco kernel itself... Y?
Please help guyz.....
1. You say once upon a time your launcher pro was smooth. Try reverting to the same configuration you had then and see if this issue is fixed.
2. If you did downloads, then I would say it may be normal. Keep it idle, i.e only a few calls and sms and then see the drain.
3. This happens in franco kernel. Small issue.
make sure u dont use live wallpapers.. they really screw up the phones performance..
for battery drain its.. quite good.. if u downloaded a lot. calibrate battery and then try once again.
i would say u should try miks 6.5.5 with fk v18 cfs.. it gives best battery life with 2g.. and has best performance too
I tried mik's Rom . Still the battery drain is noticeable. And more over the call volume s too loud . Is there any way to reduce it .
And i also calibrated the battery and i don't use live wallpaper. Any other suggestions

J.k signing off using XDA app on OPTIMUS PRIME
Any live widgets that you use, they do contribute lots in battery drain
Use startup manager and see what apps are loaded on startup and remain in memory there might be some you will like to remove, maps also causes lot of battery drain, remove it from startup

I'm also facing this issue. I'm using CM7 6.5.4 with v18.1 Franco's Kernel. People have said v18.1 kernel had very bad battery life and I am experiencing this like everyone else. The performance of 18.1 is amazing, but battery is being drained to fast. I'm going to revert to a lower version of the kernel and see if battery life is better.
Bump

That right there. You are obviously installing one or a few apps that are taking up much CPU. You need to try and scale back. I would install your apps back one at a time until you find what app(s) might be causing your stutter.
And quit bumping your topic 2-3 times in a day... FFS people will get to you, chill....
Hi
Last night i installed the [ROM][AOSP][JB][4.1.1][STABLE] SuperNexus - I9300 - BUILD 1 on my Galaxy S3 device and i noticed my battery is draining out like crazy. Cell Standby and Screen are using more than 40% each.
When i was using Ice Cream Sandwich i had the same problem but after installing the battery fix it all worked so tried the fix on JB and nothing.
Is there any other fix or solution for this?
Thanks.
No fix for this until cm sorts it. Live with it or go back to ics I'm afraid mate

That is not repeat not a battery fix if you read the post it fixes a misreported figure only .
battery drain is user start with Better Battery Stats and look for wakelocks .
Battery requires five days use from flashing a new rom .
jje
Screen will always use 40%+ unless you aren't using your phone.

Running the same build myself and experienced an 18% drop last night on standby with Wi-Fi on over 7 hours, i have flashed the latest Siyah kernel update today and ive every confidence this will increase battery life as when i checked the kernel wakelocks this morning the wakelocks were big, the CM kernel i believe is the main culprit in this instance.
Also take into consideration any apps / widgets you have which update and any sTuff you rarely or never use freeze in Titanium backup and also go into advanced in Wi-Fi and set to never or only when plugged in and this will make a difference.
And finally don't use Juice Defender or any other battery saving apps as they use up more battery than they save!

I installed syiah kernel s3-v1.5beta5 over CWM yesterday and still no change, Cell Standby is now using 70% while screen dropped to 7%. I will
now try to disable all automatic updates.
After installing [ROM][AOSP] [4.1.1] Liquid JellyBean Beta 1.1 battery works pretty good without even installing kernel 1.5beta4.
Cell standby dropped to 37% and Screen to 27%
I must say this ROM works faster and adds a few cool options for personalization.

- I recommend you to go to stock or modified ICS , simply functioning Roms and stable .
- JB you can flash it just for fun , still under construction and testing , can't litterly judge it .
You may want to try different modems. Cell standby is mostly not influenced by the ROM but your reception and the flashed modem.

My operator is Movistar from Spain and i am currently outside of the country. I flashed my S3 to JB after leaving the country and now i have no reception, can this be the reason why Cell Standby is always around 70%?

I am using this Rom as well and i must say it`s very good. Have a lot setup possibilities, and runs very smooth. For me i`ts the best JB Rom, better than SuperNexus. Just have the one issue - camera!
Hi guys.. ive been flashing all kinds of rom and kernel. In the end i find stock Ics with stock kernel gives me both the performance and battery life i need after removing useless start up and freezing unwanted apps.
Had been using the default touchwiz and suprising theres no lag or redraw or whatever issues. Only set back is i cant customize my stock rom.
Battery life wise i can get up to 6 hrs screen time or maybe more. Will post screenshot after i drain my battery.
On jellybean, batt drain is more noticeable regardless using stock or any other jb roms / kernels. Personally i dont like OCing or undervolting so pls dont mention abt those here.
I am wondering who else here share the same experience with both ICS and JB. Would u still stay on ics or jb?
Would love to hear opinions

Says it all really
I've recently returned to stock rom and kernel after trying warnamlite, miui and a few others. Stock is deco the next for battery. I'm getting nowhere near 6 hours screen time though. How are you stopping apps from starting up? Is this by freezing or have you used another method?

You got 6 hours of screentime with data/wifi on with ICS?
Personally I've been getting better battery life with MIUI on Jellybean, but I've also been using Siyah since the first day I flashed my ROM so that might also have something to do with it. I've had experience with stock ICS and MIUI ICS as well, and the battery drain was essentially the same. I'm running a heavily customized JDUltimate though. If you don't want to undervolt or flash another ROM/kernel then JD is a great alternative. I was using stock GB on my S2 with nothing but Juice Defender and I got pretty decent battery stats, though I can't remember them right now.

Hi .. yes approx 6hrs screen time. With only 3g. But i setted my display to around 20% brightness as im indoor most of the time. I usually use the same setup to test among roms and phones as ive got 2x S3 to play with. One of it is my gfs phone. She plays lots of games so i also hear her feedback regarding the roms and kernels i flashed for her.
I find using auto brightness actually drains the battery more with continus use. I also make sure i got only essential tasks ans apps running in backgrd. Btw i have whatsapp in backgrd all the time.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yeah I have my brightness at the lowest setting most of the time as well, as the only time that I'm going to be in bright daylight is when I'm walking around, and I'm not going to be looking at my phone while I'm crossing the street and whatnot I figured that all of those "auto" settings actually drain more battery because of their constant turning off and on and adjusting and etc...it seems like it would consume unnecessary CPU power.
How do you manage which apps run in the background?

1. Root the phone
2. Install all the apps / games
3. Use ES task manager to remove unwanted startup
4. Use tit backup to freeze unwanted apps.
System apps like mapservice, secphone, samsung pushservice etc that runs in the background are frozen with tit backup and startup removed by ES task manager.
Result : No useless bloat running in your phones background. Better batt life and performance. I can achieve 300mb ram after a fresh reboot. Stays aroumd 400 to 500 range of ram after a day. Will observe ram a day more as i just flashed stock 3days ago.
But so far so good. Quad benchmark scores are a minimum 5.4k too! Will post screenshots on weekend.

An Aussie? Smutty humour? Never!
(I also had a juvenile chuckle earlier when someone said tit backup!)
So far my experience is in ICS's favour.
Ok. JB is latest. FIne.
BUT TELL ME SOMETHING WE CAN DO IN JB AND NOT IN ICS?
I didnt see even a single sort of such think except some added settings in settings app.
Even looks are same.
We can easily mod the ICS rom to make it look better.
For looks and functions of JB, we can use launchers ofcourse!
And personally, in JB, my ram normal usage was 500+MB.
In ICS, with same apps, its 200-300 MB. How and Why? Both stock kernels.
Also, i am used to playing games while charging. In JB, the battery only declined, even while charging when i played game. But in ics, there is charging instead of discharging even when i play games.
Therefore, jb is mess for me! So unstable with lesser battery....

Hey friends I am currently running the OMEGA v28 4.1.1 JB ROM on my international GS3 i9300 and it is also rooted of course and I don't think I'm being paranoid but my battery life has took a massive drop since rooting my device. I am not overclocking mu CPU and I have tried out some rooted apps like battery saver for example and I actually think it made it worse. I have all the usual setting disabled to allow for optimal battery life like brightness right down, auto sync off, wi-fi off when the phone is locked I also only use the wi-fi manually if and when I need it and all that good stuff like smart stay and vibration off. I am wondering if anyone knows of something I'm not trying???
Had it charged to 100% this morning at 9PM and by 1PM I'm down to 79% already and I haven't made any calls and only used it to check my email and facebook for around 10 mins!!! is this normal for everyone else???
:crying::crying::crying:
Cheers
Gary
Sound normal for Sammy JB rom.
Some said Facebook is also causing the battery drains.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Did you reset your battery stats? Charge to 100%, reset battery stats from CWM or delete batterystats.bin -file, let the battery run out.
You might want to use currentwidget to log your battery usage.
I noticed big battery drop between 4.0.4 and 4.1.1 used to get 24 hours one charge 4 hours screen time. Now I get only about 12 hours.
Might just be me :/

I'm using also omega rom v28, have it installed recently. I cannot say how good is the battery with this rom, but so far I have like 56% in 20h, with 2h screen, sopcast 30min, voice cals 37mins....etc (also using wifi manually when needed)
Try out different roms and find out what works for you.
You can also use an app like BetterBatteryStats to check what's draining your battery. Its just to check whats use power.
Don't use batterysaving apps most of the time they are making it worse
I'm running Omega ROM V27.2 and yes it's normal to have a difference about battery life between ICS & JB.
To improve my battery life I installed the phenomenal extreme kernel, and now I'm totally happy with it. You should take a look to its topic in the GS3 Android Development forum. The dev developed 3 versions of his kernel to fit to most of the phone.
Also as others told you, you should get BBS app to point out the wakelocks & define which app is your problem.
Personally, I'm at 45% charged, and already used it during 21h 10m including more than 2 hours screen on. My auto-sync is always on and my WiFi only when I enable it. I'm using a live wallpaper and a lot Twitter.
When I do nothing I can reach more than 2 days.

As he recommends ...identifying and reducing your wakelocks should be your primary concern. Been reading loads from developers that the insecure jb kernels themselves should already provide good battery management.

Hey guys, if you are going to use custom ROM's you should be prepared for bad battery. The developers are adding so many different features and hacking certain apps to make them work in their ROM's without a lot of investigation into what the reprecussions to battery are. I used to always use custom ROM's but haven't installed one in about 6 months and haven't any problems with battery life. I have the latest JB on my 9300 and battery life is very good. I use GSAM to watch apps that want to go rouge and start sucking battery life. Media Player Service is a big offender as is Facebook. Also stock widgets that get placed by these JB ROM's are always pinging for new data and kill battery quickly. Get rid of them! If you have a stock ROM and are getting bad battery, 99% of the time it will be bad apps, your job is to determine which ones they are and apps like betterbatterystats and GSAM work great to help diagnose the issue.
can anybody else confirm the above post? because i am not sure about the custom roms.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I will soon have an S3 so I cannot speak specifically about this device / ROM(s).
What I know from using a lot of Android devices and testing original ROMs vs. custom ROMs:
- original ROMs have too much garbage built-in apps and are slower
- original ROMs have everything working
- custom ROMs are much cleaner and faster
- custom ROMs have (too) much problems, something always not working 100%
- custom ROMs usually have stability & battery issues
My personal advice:
- install latest ORIGINAL ROM.
- root it
- install the free app "App Backup & Restore" from Google Play
- search unuseful apps from Samsung (& others) and block the autorun of these apps (note: do not block basic android or samsung apps, as phone, contacts, etc)
I use this method for 1.5 years and this way my Android is clean (you can save over 100-150Mb RAM), FAST and much better battery. Try it.
In the end, if original ROMs have too many original apps, custom ROMs have to many tweeks that in the end, for my taste, the original ROMs + App Backup & Restore win hands down.

I have always had custom roms on all my android devices but at the moment I am running stock ics in my s3.
I don't think the S3 needs it.
To be honest I find a lot of the stock based roms full of changes I don't really need, ARHD was a great Rom but recently has started to lag really badly for me (and some other users) so I went back to stock just to see and so far I can't complain. Smooth, fast and the battery is as good if not better than the custom roms.
If the camera didn't suck so bad on AOSP I would be there in a instant

Hi all,
I've noticed recently that the stock gallery app appears to be using far more battery than it should. For example, I restarted my phone last night at 1am before going to bed, it was charged 100%. I woke up this morning at 6:30am to find the battery level down to 85% and after checking the battery stats, the gallery app has used 35% of the total battery usage. I didn't open the gallery app after restarting the phone, it appears to be using the battery power on its own.
I have a rooted device running Sotmax JB Ultimate Stock ROM v3. For those that haven't seen or heard of it, it's effectively a completely stock JB rom with a couple of added tweaks, none of which should influence battery. I'm also using stock kernel if that helps.
Is this a known problem with JB or might it be a problem with the rom specifically?
Thanks to anyone that can help.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Hi,
I already tried several roms, I can confirm that I did not had this problem using any version of WanamLite, Omega, NxtGen or Checkroom. Maybe it is a problem on your custom rom.
I would try I full wipe (data/cahce and dalvik) to see if it solves the problem.
If not, I would flash another version of this rom or another custom rom.
Cheers
