noise reduction - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

what is noise reduction in android phones????

i dont get it, are you asking what it is, or are you tryin to tweak it/set levels?
anyway, its a feature that uses mic to lower the background noises when you are talking to someone (like traffic etc etc)

So it doesn't have nothing to do with music playing?

Volume

Any way to increase volume....ita funny such a big phone yet so small of a volume.haha guessing we have to wait for cm9 or is there any mod we can do. The speaker is just so low. Watching netflix and youtube is an experience like no other....hearing it is a different story haha

It doesn't help any that the speaker is rear firing! I have a leather flip case on the phone so it's really bad
Lol a Bluetooth case would be awesome with a bigger speaker on it

+1 on equalizer, works on everything I've thrown it.
power amp is also the best, if you aren't using google or Amazon music clouds.

You can also use the app eRay Free or the paid version in the Android Market to fix the volume issue. Works very well...and a great task mgr app. This is for both in-call (headset) and external speaker volume fix.

How loud is your Loud speaker? For Media and Ringer etc?

Is it me or is the loudspeaker on the Note weak? I mean this is my third samsung phone, in all 3 phones the loudspeaker had to be turned all the way up to hear it enough. I had to sky rockets and 2 notes. When I'm using the speaker phone to talk to people it's very loud even at 50 percent. it's when I am listening to music or watch media I have to turn it all the way up to sound comfortable. I mean don't get me wrong, when it's a 50 percent you can still hear it but as far as the ringer is, It has to be turned all the way up to hear it completely. Even to listen to music at 50 percent,is really low especially when you're at work. This is my second Note, and they both sound exactly the same. Is this normal?

Anything lower than 50% you can barely hear it.. Sucks...

[Q] Notification sounds not playing through headphones

Curious if anyone else has noticed this / knows how to "fix" it.
When I have my headphones plugged in, the notification sounds (eg the default new message "whistle") comes out the speaker instead. The sound in the headphone (music) will mute during this. I've had to resort to turning the notification volume off during work hours, so the sound doesn't disturb others at work - surely these sounds should be coming through headphones while they are plugged in?
Hello,
I'm with the same issue! It's very odd...
Any thoughts about this? Btw, I'm not using stock headset (I'm not used to in-ear headphones).
Yeah add another +1 to this....!!!
Not tried with stock headphones I have a set of Bluetooth ones and I get all notifications through them .
I'll take look in settings .

Actually I double check again, theres a "notification" sound going through headset. the only problem is it's playing simultaneously with the phone speaker. Really annoying specially if I'm in the office cause others can hear the notification sound too.
An android bug, apparently

This is a long-standing Android bug that manifests on many, though not all, phones. Google for "android notification sounds headphones" and you find many complaints about it, and a Google bug report with comments going back to 2010.
There is a apparently an easy way to patch it if your phone is rooted (though I cannot find info on exactly HOW) and there is a script here on XDA for use with the Tasker app ($6 or so in the Playstore) that can address it.
Other than that, the only thing to do to minimize annoyance to your coworkers is turn notification sounds to silent when using headphones. There are volume profile apps that can do this automatically.
In this bug report https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6696 and this one https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=16667 it said that's a problem with ICS, that is supposed to be fixed in JB and that CM have their own fix for this.
Let's hope that S3 JB release will fix it.
this problem has been bugging me too..hope its fixed in the next update.

[Q] Is boosting your music volume safe?

Hi mates, I found an app to boost my music volume.
Is it safe to boost our phones max limit volume? If yes, why did Samsung did not include this feature by deafult in the default music player?
what is the name of app ?? where can we download it ??
I found this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.omegacentauri.SpeakerBoost#?t=W10. Don't know if it's safe to use.. But the comments are good for Galaxy S3
Because they want to protect your eardrums.. Anyways long term high volume output may damage your speakers..
You have been zooo==>ted

In my opinion boosting volume is safe. I'm using Beats Audio app and Poweramp with the pre-amp up full and it's fine.
Having said that I rarely use the loudspeaker on the phone cos despite being loud enough the sound and clarity mostly sucks (as with all phones).

Sucks 10000% worse with beats audio.
Don't talk about "clarity" in the same context as that POS - displays ignorance.
Define "clarity", and how said POS improves it.

Thanks for the reply guys.... So to summarize this app is safe to use if we will use it with large headsets and unsafe if we will use it with the phone speaker..
So I just need to activate this if I will use my sennheiser px-200 II :good:

Kitkat: sound does not come throuht conversation speaker.

Is there anybody like me: my C6802 does not play sound through out loud speaker. It just play sound through out conversation speaker (internal speaker).
Is it a big bug?

Hello friend, I noticed the same thing in my c6833 with kitkat.
Even videos... the audio was played in the ear speaker, and very low.
Altought, when I rebooted my phone, everything went to normal.
For me, it's not a constant.. more like a bug
I have also experienced this on one occasion, and it's a known bug that affects all Sony devices on KitKat. I'm sure Sony is working on it.

I have experienced that too. I don't know why but now it seems to stop. I'm not sure what, but turning off all the Sound enhancement, esp the dynamic equalizerseems to be the solution for me.

Happens on my c6806... Come on Sony this stuff isn't supposed to happen on release of an update that should have been tested. This is why apple murders android because the software works

Check these posts from the Z1 forum, they may help the ZU also, since it's almost the same hardware.

Hey guys did you try this?
Go to settings / sound / volumes / notification
Change the notification sound to maximum and make sure you can hear it from the speakers once you do, reboot.
