[Q] TCP/IP Settings - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am very seriously considering getting a Galaxy S III.
My last journey into Andriod was with an HTC Hero and since then I've had a Blackberry and then iPhone. I like to rotate techs...
Previously with my HTC Hero I seem to remember being unable to set a static IP address for the wireless setup. Is that still an issue with this platform - just want to know in advance ?
If it is, is there any workarounds or anything I can download to fix this ?
Thanks.

Excellent - thank you - and that is on the standard factory build ?

Whole galaxy series allows you to set static IP while setting new WiFi connection. I suppose all android phone's can do this (didn't they ?, at least all high-end models I had).

Where to set "Use static IP" ?

Where to set "Use static IP" with Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that comes with Android 3?
I believe older android devices had that option in settings->Wifi Settings->advance->Checkbox for "Use Static IP". I no more see it with Android 3 in Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Can someone help?
Thanks!
i was wondering about this too. Can't find it anywhere.
i just cancelled the password of the AP,tried connecting again, then i saw the option of setting static IP.
it's not the best solution though...
How about VPN setup support? I use one of the VPN services to access the likes of HULU or BBC. Will I be able to do it on Android 3.x?

Yes, the usual VPN settings section is there, with the same options as on my Nexus One:
PPTP
L2TP
L2TP/IPSec PSK
L2TP/IPSec CRT
Will I be forced to enter VPN password every time I want to connect or will "it" remember?
Hi to you all. I picked up the tab 10.1 today and I need to allocate a static address to this device. iAndroidFan posted a workaround of some kind but I can't replicate it. Can someone possibly post a step by step instruction to perform this simple(?) task.
thanks in advance
Rob
maybe this will help(?): http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/mot...help/5382-how-manually-assign-ip-address.html
HTH
PS: I don't own an android device yet, just googled...
Go to Wifi setting and where you connected to the address. Press and hold your network...modify and choose satatic ip

Getting closer! Thanks to the previous 2 posters. I can now access the menu and change IP to static, set DNS etc but I can't save these changes. When I hit <save> it simply reverts to DHCP.
What am I doing wrong here?

Rob
It sounds to me like you're hitting a bug...
maybe someone with the same device/release can perform a similar test
Setting a static IP...Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7510UEKF3)...Android 3.1 Kernel 2.6.36.3..
Try going to Settings\Wi Fi Settings\, wait util you network shows up, long press it until you get a new option to Modify Config (be patient)...scroll down (this is what got me banging my head for two days) ans change settings to static
or Google Xoom forums and in that search for 5382 :how to manually assign ip address)

Did you ever get a response to this or ever figure it out?! I am having major issues with intermittent wifi connection in my house. It doesn't seem to affect the tablet elsewhere. (Though, I've only had this tablet for 3 days!)
it is extremely frustrating to have this intermittent connection problem with wifi.
Thank you.
Is there a way I can set a static IP address for mobile data? Not just wifi

[Q] Multiple Wifi Configuration

Hi' all.
I use very often 2 Wifi networks. (Home & Work)
The problem is, the home network is configured so that a new ip is assigned each time i connect.
The work network is configured to use a static ip.
How can i configure the phone (Galaxy S II) so that i can access both networks without having to change all settings each time i connect to a different network?
Btw, i know all the parameters to configure each one correctly, i just can't make the phone remember the setting i want for each specific network.

Thanks for your response, but that's not really a solution for my case. I am new to the Android scene, so i thought i was being ignorant, but i realise that's not the case. Really odd android doesn't have the option for profiling wifi's. Nokia have it since they came with wifi conectivity.

SOLVED! [Q] Static IP Setting?

maybe i'm stupid and cant find the setting but how is it possible this device does not have a static IP/dns setting? is there a way to set it up after rooting the device? i just got my NT today and this is a HUGE setback for me since my network is restricted to static IPs not DHCP. Network has 9 pcs/laptops, 6 phones, 3 VOiP, and 2 IPTV Devices. I was trying to get it on the network during initial setup and failed. googled and found a way to skip oobe. still didnt help me
TIA

Not that I know of. Setting a static IP means that the device will only work on that WiFi network and no other (unless it uses the same IP range and mask, AND you guarantee that your static IP will not duplicate another on other networks).
Now, you may be able to guarantee this, but I think you can see that the average consumer (many Nook owners are not computer savvy, let alone network savvy) can get into trouble with a capability like this.
Further, every WiFi router I've seen, has the capability of assigning a specific DHCP IP address to a specific device, based on the MAC address. I would be very surprised if your network can't be easily configured to do the same.
The feature DeanGibson mentioned is called "DHCP reservation" on most current routers, or "static DHCP" for DD-WRT. AFAIK, older routers may not have that feature. I don't recall it for old Netgear and Linksys firmwares, may be others.
If yours don't, suggest upgrading to a new router. Abovesaid feature has most of the benefits of static IP (eg port-forwarding) but without the client-side setup hassle.
so the simple answer is no lol
pretty much sol at this point.. means i will have to reconfig yrs of work
i still think it sad that this device doesn't allow mean to set my own ip.
thanks to the both of you for your input.

Wi-Fi connection Problems Galaxy SIII...Help Please!!! :)

Hello
Im a proudly owner of a S3 and a GNexus and I have some problems regarding Wi-Fi, I know that this is not an S3 problem but its and android problem but perhaps someone can help me in here..
the thing is, I have two routers in my house, one is the master one for cable/internet company and the other is and range extender to expand the signal of the wireless lan....
every morning, when I wake up, if I go to the floor where is the first router both my S3 and Gnexus connect successfully to the wireless network and evevyrthing works fine....however if I go to the floor where the bridge/extender is located, both phones detects the wireless network, however can't connect to it, on wireless settings says...Obtaining ip address...and stays there for ages...and nothing...cant connect...for me to connect to the bridge, I have to restart the bridge and both phones connect immediately...
please any ideas??
thanks and best regards,
hugo

Is it password protected? If so try making it 'open' or change the encryption type.

Hi,
first thanks for the quick reply,
yes the network is password protected...I changed the encryption type for the WPA not the WPA2 and the problem still persists...
the thing that kills my brains is that, to connect to the bridge I must restart the the access point every morning,....
thanks

yes, I guess so....., should DHCP be enabled or disabled?
sorry but this situation is driving me crazy.....
I cant connect to the brigde/extender network right now with both my android phones and android tablet, however with my laptop running windows 8 I can......
wth??????
this is so frustrating!!!!!
Are you sure the second device extends the main access point and not just create a new WLAN?
Have you updated the firmware of both devices?
What devices do you have?
Am I understanding correctly that your laptop does work even though both Android devices don't (before you reboot the extender)?
Nope...its not creating another wireless lan... it extends the main plan correctly cause my laptop connects perfectly to the Wi-Fi from the extender even prior to the restart of the extender....
The devices are...main router from the ISP- Thomson
Range extender- tp link 701nd
Thanks

Both have latest firmware? Might be a bug in the WiFi driver of the AP/ROUTER... or it's in Android.... you will need to test by trial and error I guess...
Ok..
Do you guys know anything if I must have my IP static or dynamic?
Thanks

Dynamic would be the friendliest to work with... you could try if it's a DHCP issue by setting a fixed IP when the problem occurs, but I don't think it is.
This is not a problem with the phone(s)....is with the router config. Contact the manufacturer for further assistance...

If you got a router and a range extender, there's nothing you need to fiddle with because the range extender will just Relay DHCP requests between client and master router.
Two routers* pushing out IP addresses is a no go, there will be a conflict in your scenario, and all range extenders will of course take this into account.
If you had two "real" routers*, it would still be possible to set everything up, although then there's a lot to take into account.
* Router is a inaccurate term used for the consumer grade combination devices. They're in fact a router, a switch, and a wireless access point bundled in a neat package. Sometimes with a xDSL modem or something on the external interface of the router.
Try setting the IP to static and more important, try giving it a default gateway to the routers IP. That should make it easy for your phone to directly look for the gateway it is looking for.

I have three routers, one main, one extender, one repeater (creating a whole new network for other building). Both main and repeater are the same network. All is config as per DD-WRT documentation. All three have latest DD-WRT.
After trying many things, all I can say is the (or mine at least) S3 always has trouble when many APs are nearby. I don't use VOIP because of that (it could disconnect at any time).
Next step on my list is to have 3 different SSIDs (only two now) and try using tasker to debounce the wifi switching (if that is even possible).

[Q] Android routing problem

Hi all!
I'm currently upgrading my home network router from a windows server to a OpenWRT one.
I've set DHCP leases from range 192.168.128.50 - 192.168.128.150 and set a static IP for my phone to 192.168.128.20
My phone is a Galaxy S3 LTE (I9305) with the stock android 4.1.2 installed and is rooted.
My OpenWRT router is giving me some problems with android/iOS phones, as a result, the only way to be able to use my wifi is to set a static IP in to my mobile. Which I prefer not to (because I want everybody, who I give my password to, to be able to go online without further setting changes.)
From what I'm able to see with LanDroid, the only thing that changes is a little thing in the 'router' part of my connection. As visible in the attached image(s).
Does anybody know WHY I have to set the static IP into my telephone? I've heard about the DNS option 121 & on my windows server I had to set option 119...,
Feel free to ask more information if I ain't clear enough.
Anybody, please?? :s
Still having the same problem and I really would love to get some help from you guys...!
fixed it myself
Hi all,... thanks for your support.....,
I've noticed my broadcast address was wrong. I've also installed raspbian instead of openwrt.
Then I followed this tutorial: http://imranasghar.blogspot.nl/2009/09/how-to-make-ubuntudebian-as-router.html ,, made some small ajustments. And it worked!
