Disable CPU rendering on Andreno 200 - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877183
Has anyone tried this on the Galaxy ACE? Does it make any difference?

On jellaxy at least it makes a ¨HUGE difference in performance, both benchmarking and smoothness of everything.

I tried it o Apocalypse.
UI becomes a lot smoother.

Works great on CM10 by jellaxy!
No placebo! Seriously way faster!
Thanks!

Yep it's good! But don't know what's the difference between that and the debug.composition.type=gpu line on build.prop. Anyone?

Oh, yeah, that one. I'd like to know that myself.
Just tried this tweak but since I don't game I cant really see any improvements there. I did however notice some stutterness in the app drawer (the typical "smoothness test", flipping pages). Placebo lag? Idk.
edit: running the final apocalypse

From what I notice the scrolling smoothness improved. Don't know if it's placebo too.

Seems to work ok now, maybe it was some startup lagg. But I havent seen much improvement in the scrolling speed at least. I will probably notice some difference after using it for a week.

Will it also work on gb roms (stock) ?
Has anyone tried on gb ?:beer:

Isn't this the same effect as these two props for build.prop?
debug.egl.hw=1 (which is default anyway, see libEGL.so)
debug.composition.type=gpu
On my stock Galaxy ACE I can't remove the software line 0 0 android -> no boot.
Cheers

Although the performance change isn't ground-breaking, I can feel the transition effects smoother, such as swiping screens. My Ace which scored 1890 before on AnTuTu benchmark has exceeded 2000 after the tweak :good:

Not working for me on DDKQ8 stock.rom.

Isn't gpu rendering ui and all project butter hype all about that only ? So that means something is wrong

GPU is not stupid as there are phones existing in market with official ics and maybe in future jb with same gpu.. and adreno200 performs good enough for normal gamers

[MOD] New adreno libraries 04.01.01.00.036 V3 (FOR DEVICES WITH ADRENO 2XX GPU ICS)

I had just found new Adreno libs in JBX ROM thread...
I thought that, if they are the latest release, they would work better than old ones. So I tried them with ICS ( Doomkernel and xDarkICS v.1 )
Result: More smoothness in the launcher, settings menu... Also tried them with Modern Combat 3... It runs more smoothly too!!! :victory::victory::victory:
Contras: Not found
EDIT: DONT FLASH THEM IF YOU ARE USING GINGERBREAD (2.3.X), IT WILL CAUSE LOWER PERFORMANCE!
With this new libraries device will have 30/40% increase of performance ( thanks for the info jgregoryj1 )
INSTRUCTIONS:
-Download new JB Adreno libs (attachment )
-Make nandroid backup
-Flash Adreno libs
*If they dont work advanced restore of /system in recovery
-Enjoy!

UPDATE: FLASH IT ONLY IF YOU ARE USING ICS. Using this with other android versions can bring lower performance( as with Gingerbread) or break video playback ( as with Jelly Bean or CM10)
It seems to work with all Xperia 2011 phones, or at least those which uses same GPU as Xperia Play...

makes everything run so slow the home launcher is running at almost half speed (maybe moreso)
So not recommended by me :silly:

The updated adreno drivers are only for ICS. Attempting to use on GB will cause all sorts of issues. Your performance will tie a signife drop if used on GB. Not only that if o remember qualcomm right they were saying upwards of 30-40% performance boost with these drivers on ICS. Wish they would work or could be modded to work for GB but it doesn't work that way... it would need complete rewrite

Works well on cm9, makes it way smoother.
Has anyone checked whether video playback/recording, camera, etc still work after flashing this?
EDIT:
Just tested and they all work fine. Definitely smoother too. Pretty much on par with Gingerbread.
Thanks mate, works well on aokplay
Sorry for my bad English. It's not my native language.
I installed this on Markphyton's ICS rom, and ran Nenamark 2 (graphics benchmark) before and after and the results were:
Before: about 25.6 fps
After: about 32.5 fps
This is awesome! Thanks!
Seems to work in CM9, i didnt notice any visible improvement with Turbo kernel and LuPuS UI, but benchmark scores are a tiny bit higher.
Strange that its not already in CM9.... guess they are just new.

On 2.3.7 I'm getting 13.3 fps on stock clock speeds.
And 16.1 fps when overclocked to 1.6ghz
Which is bizarre when you consider the fact that FPSe runs at full speed on Gingerbread, but doesn't on ICS even with a crazy overclock!
I've not tried an ICS ROM in a while, but if it's performance is starting to beat that of GB - It's kinda tempting to switch back!

Xperia S lags even with 6.1.A.2.45

Hi people!
I want to ask some opinions about te Xperia S lags . The rom 6.1.A.2.45 has improved soo much the speed even in my opinion the XS is always too laggy.
Expecially when search in browser the autocomplete feature cause soo much lags!
In general the phone reactivity is always very bad.
Installing Cyanogenmod 9.1 the things change. very fast and smooth.
So i think: 1)Sony developers are very bad in Android port to Xperia 2) Cyanogenmod team are very good developers
What do you think about it?
Thanks..
cheers.
I was shopping for a new phone for my wife last week and had a play with the Xperia P in the shop. OMG, it ran sooo much faster than my XS and the XS they had (both on GB).

other issue of Xperia S in my opinion is the handset free. too low volume!

check out the time apps need to be fully loaded(will be even slower when gpu rendering is enabled) + keep an eye on any app you open, wait for like 20 minutes and it will disappear out of the RAM so it will literally restart when you launch it again(slow as hell!!!!) multitasking is just screwed on this ics .. cm9 is superior in any circumstances over the stock ics rom although its not as beautiful ..

Gpu rendering is for the ui not the code based stuff so enabling it will make the device faster ie word predictions since the cpu won't render the ui anymore.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Sent from my Xperia S using xda premium
forcing gpu rendering means every event or anything has to go through the GPU. apps accelerated by the gpu will increase their RAM usage, therefore slowing down the system and their startup
tried gpu rendering ... not so much improvment.

Ok clean fast and smooth jellybean good idea
I have an important question:
how can choose between performance of roms ?
benchmarks ?
here is my experience
on your sperience rom antutu gave me 3200+ score while 3d was about 960 and etc...
on hyperbeam cream it gaves me 3400+
that mean ICS is better even 3d on ics was 1100
but the performance of gaming was worst !!!!
so how can we expect a bout jelly bean ?
is it better than ICS (on this way)or such kind of the same ?
actually everyone needs performance beside of visual not reverse
can you explain.
thank you

Like shadik already said jb is now even smoother and faster than ics but its not fully stable yet, about gaming, its the panic kernel that gives you a great benchmark score, and gaming forme was smooth but sometimes it lags for a little time,gb was designed for our devices it gives us the best performance till now,but i think jb could be better if it gets stable

I use genetICS as a daily driver with chainfire 3d and caf kernel and gaming for me is pretty relaxed..than again I'm not really into gaming. I'll occasionally play a game so when I do, I have a good kernel with chainfire and a high OC setting of 768/480 noop performance

GB continues being the right option to play games.
At least on my side, GB uses less ram than ICS. I also think the kernels also make a difference. There's a lot of "gaming" kernels for GB (my choice would either be PP 1.7 or franco's) while you only have two kernels for ICS, both of which do not seem to be tailored for gaming.

Well, I couldn't really tell because I'm not a phone gamer (I play Switch, Angry Birds and other things to kill time), but it's not that bad. Switch is veeery smooth, Angry Birds doesn't lag at all, so... I would say it's bad for gaming. Maybe only for games that need a lot of RAM.
PD: In GB y had OC and used CF3D, and still some games were kind of slow compared to ICS. So, that's it: if we had some more RAM, maybe... who knows?

[Q] Are "build.prp" tweaks really effective?

well... I've always done those battery, camera and performance build.prop tweaks to my phone...
but never confirmed whether they really are effective or not...
Do you think they really work?
I couldn't feel any big difference, actually...
Yes they are... Check by benchmarks... For your satisfaction.
PREDATOR95 ->->->->a.k.a. ->-> predatOr
Yes some of them do have effect, but don't expect it to be significant.
And don't always trust in benchmark scores, it wasn't everything.
They do work, but not every one will work on every Phone or have the same effect as they might on an other Phone etc so can be trial and error I've found.
have you tried supercharger??
For me its effective
having a good build.prop tweaks give me 270 free ram. get high antutu score
