I use any old USB cable to move files and stuff (though mostly I just eject the card), but in the car I use a charging USB cable so I can get the full AC charge voltage out of it.

12-pin micro-USB
Standard one that comes with the phone 12-pin and a Motorola dual port wall charger cuz it charges the fastest.

Used to use the stock one provided with the phone, until one day I mis-unpluged it and both the micro usb port of the usb and the port of the phone got broken....
I then went and fixed the phone, brought some HTC usb wires from china......and the wires were really cheap...like $1/wire..
BTW, I'm talking about the Canadian WindMobile version of the phone, which has a strange&funny port shape than the regular micro usb ports the main version of the phone have(I'm blaming my fail on that which made me a little happier).....

My 3vo's micro USB is giving me problems charging. Im a former owner of the EVO 4g and never had a problem with it. I got a my 3vo from the early premier sales online. Let's hope this is not a common thing.

I hope not too haf two evo4g that port when bad. I hoped being on side on 3vo that was one reason it was moved beside battery.
This "weak micro USB port" issue would be what...? "You said it was "giving me problems charging"...what kinds of problems?
The micro USB cable that came with the Evo 3D doesn't even fit into my phone.
I'm currently using the old evo 4g cable.
I had issues with USB ports a lot on the OG Evo...Sprint tried telling me it was my fault a couple times even though it was a known issue...Telling me I had to go through insurance...
Anyway...On the 3vo I find that my Best Buy chargers have trouble working....My OEM charger is fine...

The port was only charging when it was untouched and in a specific position. It would flash from charging to connect charger as I adjusted cable to the sweet spot. Now it won't charge at all no matter how I set the cable into it. The cable has enough play to rock in all directions. My battery is almost done and this might be my last post until I have my 3vo replaced tomorrow.

Bad charging port
I had a bad one on my OG EVO. Looks like I have the same on my 3d. Need to block out a day to be without phone, unroot etc to bring to sprint.
I have the same issue but only with HTC cables. I have a generic one I use at work that works perfect. My wifes og evo cable gives me the same problem. I can't tell if its the cables or my phone. I think cables though because the generic one I have works fine.

Kinda annoying.. now I've gotta try to find another charger/data cable on ebay cuz my data cable is screwed now! Anyone have suggestions?

Yeah, I have the plastic wrapping around it being ripped away, but it's still fine. Just reattach the wires and solder if you know how or know someone or just find another mini usb cable (that's all it is).
I just bought anther cable on ebay.. I could solder it back but I'm lazy.. Plus the cable I bought is longer than the oem which is obviously good

Pretty sure the tbolt doesnt use a traditional mini usb cable.

No phone uses a mini USB anymore. They all use microUSB. Easy to find though. Target sells that for like $15. For $20 at Walmart, you can get a Nook charge kit with a nice long, thin, light weight cable a lot like the stock, but in white.

Er, I meant microusb . I don't have a spare micro usb cable, but I swap out the verizon one for a miniusb one to charge my headphones all the time.
Can you still find a wall charger for a micro USB? Or is stall USB to phone now? Kinda sorta related.

Mine did it too. time to buy a new one, just checked amazon, about 4 bucks for it
I bought these on ebay. The HDMI is short but worked but when I connect both cables to lapdock, the USB is not being recognized so the keyboard/mouse is not working. I want this just to act as an extension so I can use full lapdock abilities with cables. Any idea what's going on (cable charges on plug but does not charge on lapdock)? Maybe someone has better usb cables.

Is the USB cable an OTG? If not then that is most likely your problem.

I'm looking to buy a longer charging/USB cable that has the same connector as the stock one that came with the phone. I have a ton of those micro usb wires, but these have a tendency to easily disconnect. I have a USB extention cable, but that limits the charging to less than 400mah or less.

I got mine on amazon for a couple bucks each. Try searching "htc oem cable." Mine are white from another htc model but perfect in all ways.
I would pick a couple of these up. They are a hell of a deal. Very thick, about 4ft long, and data exchange work perfectly. Charges my phone quickly too. Hard to believe they were only $1, and He's a US Seller so you will get them quick.

That is not an OEM cable, it is MicroUSB. They work, but the are not OEM.

The cable for the Amaze has a 12pt micro USB end. It's the same cable needed for the HTC Flyer. Compared to other micro USB cables that are only 8pt. This one fits more securely.

I'm glad I read this thread. I'm using my EVO charging cables and they work but are very slow.
If charging current is low check the ground connection between both end , it may be disconnected . I bought couple of cable from ebay all same problem later make one and i happy with that charging current now 800 plus .

Ok i am thinking about buying an amaze 4g but i do have a deal breaker question.
I noticed the amaze has a special usb charger, will i damage the port by using a regular microusb, or will it all be good?

No. It'll fit just fine. Just have to make sure it sits in there securely. But the original plug and charger is only a few dollars on Amazon.

The speed of charging depends on the wall plug not the cable. I'm not too sure why HTC changed the plug. Someone else can chime in for that.
HTC changed the cable so that it doubles as an HDMI output with the proper adapter. The official cable does charge a bit faster than a standard microusb, but no other functionality should be lost if you don't buy one of those cables. There are only a handful of HTC devices that use it now, and If I'm correct all of them border on obsolete now.
