Higher resolution - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
A few months ago i was running Slim ICS. And everything on that rom was smaller. Like a higher resolution. Can i get this on RR3.0.6 with Dorimanx 5.78?
Kind regards

All you need is to change your phone's dpi. Default setting is 240 dpi, if you want everything smaller than you should set lower value (220, 200, 182 or even 160).
You can do this by editing build.prop system file or use dpi changer app. Root is needed.
i9.0.1.3k galaxy imperator

What you wanna do is change the dpi. You could use apps such as Nitrality or DPI Changer from the app store to do this. Be warned changing the dpi could cause problems with Play Store.
Before you do this, have a tried changing the font size in display settings? RR v3.0.6 has the option to set font size and the smallest option kinda looks great already without having to do the above procedure.

How low did you reduce the dpi to? Try out 220, 210 or 200. See if they work. Shouldn't be a problem in my opinion.

Don't edit your DPI with an app of you're on Android 4.1. Go to your build.prop file in /system/ and then find "ro.sf.lcd_density=240" and change the 240 to whatever you want your DPI at. Save & reboot and you shouldn't have any problems.

have you heard about ROM toolbox before? I think it's time you do some research

Use ROM toolbox lite to change your DPI. I have set my DPI to 184 on my S2 running RR 3.0.6. I have no problem at all. All apps are are working fine including play store.

Anyone done this. I like the stock keyboard a lot. But it doesn't run at 240 dpi. And 320 just is ridiculous so yeah.

I'm using this one which has been modded for 240dpi on Jedi ROM. Not sure if it will work on others.

Xposed framework and xposed app settings.
It by passes the android_process and allows you to define the DPI to any app.
Xposed framework thread
Xposed App settings
It might look complicated, but its really easy honestly.
I use it. And when resizing the keyboard it doesn't work. Try it yourself. However I've been using the module and installer forever now because I don't like broken looking apps.

I use the aosp keyboard so no issues on my end lol.
I use clean rom. Bleh. And with 240 dpi samsung keyboard doesn't work. If you use xposed and set it to 320 it's oversized and isn't usable. I haven't used any aosp rom. Never had any luck with them back using the s3. Seems these phones just like touchwiz roms

Using xposed, you need to set both setting storage and samsung keyboard to 320 dpi. I'm at 240 dpi with these settings and the keyboard works...

I tried that and it's still big and oversized. I'm on clean rom 4.5. You?

I tried but didn't restart. Idk if that'll make a difference.

I had that problem. I set it to 300 and it fits nicely, although there's a slightly annoying gap at the bottom when you've got handwriting mode on.
Set keyboard to 300 still no dice

It's 240 too, here's the stock build.prop line
Code:
wifi.interface=tiwlan0
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
dalvik.vm.heapsize=64m
I know. Custom ROMs don't change your DPI. (unless you make them) Consider using 200, that's what I use.

If you use 213 (nexus 7 dpi) then you maintain play store compatibility

I have a galaxy player 4.0 running the linaro ics rom and I use a dpi of 120 + a modified services.jar to get tablet ui.
120 dpi is play store compatible.
I also recommend using the xposed framework + the app settings module if using ics/jb so you can do dpi settings on a per app basis which can let you choose what uia napp uses.
I believe you can use the app settings module to set the playstore to a compatible dpi, that way you maintain play store compatibility even though your system wide dpi may not be play store compatible.
Play store and all other apps run smoothly and well on 200 DPI for me.

[Q] Doesn't anyone know how to change the resolution?

How do you change the resolution in any ROM? I like it to look like Slim Rom for the Nexus.

Dpi you mean? Gotta change your build.prop

I'll have to see how to do that. I like the screen small.

You must have root and you can use rom toolbox to edit build prop files.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Flash viper rom it has a built in tool for that. Running at 400 dpi and its ****ing awesome
If you change it you'll need to install the multi-dpi play store apk
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Since you're wanting to run desensed, I think if you run a third party lockscreen you can change the DPI to 320.
You'll need an app like market enabler and a custom lock screen and I'm thinking I'm missing one other thing useful but can't think of it.
If you check out JWhetstone02 (he has an inverted menus thread in apps and themes DNA subforum) and look through his posts he's got a lot of pointers and small DPI screenshots.

dpi or dpi and layout? Does it work only with TW?
I'd like to try Slim perhaps but I cannot live without tablet layout.

Is there a particular module you need to use for this?
not sure, but if you search "xposed per app i9300" or something like that, you'll find it

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Not possible. You need someone to port that feature to your device.
Tablet UI starts at 160 DPI, but if you set Android system with xpposed app setting to 160 your system UI would keep crashing so you'll end up loosing your Status bar

You Can Also Try Xposed Framework With Xposed App Settings For Per App dpi Settings Instead Of Changing it In build.prop
