Hi guys I just wanted to know if what I'm about to do is the correct method to upgrade my firmware from gingerbread to ics.
I bought my phone ( i9100 ) from Hong Kong and I live in a different country. So when there was an update for its firmware, i was unable to receive it even after checking for updates through system. So what I'm about to do is use Odin and download a firmware from samfirmware under HK's firmware and put it in the PDA part of Odin and run it.
Is this method correct? Or am I suppose to do something else? My phone is not rooted and I dont intend for it to be just yet and I'm also wondering if I use HK's firmware, will it affect my network coverage? Because being in a different country and having a different assigned network and all might cause a few problems with its radio or something?
Please advice thanks
Hi yes that's how I upgraded my firmware that method will work. Be sure to factory reset first though. As for your carrier concerns I can't answer sorry. The beauty with this though is that you can re-flash a different firmware if it doesn't work. All the best

1. Your method is correct. You shouldn't have signal issues.
Before flashing you must go through the flashing guides.
2. If you are living in another country and don't have plans of going to Hong Kong or your phone is out of warranty (this doesn't matter), you can flash any firmware for your present location. It will work very fine.

Hi There,
I purchased my SGS2 outright from O2 UK and I'm on a pay monthly SIM-only plan with O2. The phone came loaded with the stock O2 UK firmware and whenever I connected it to Kies it would recognize the firmware and say that the current firmware is up to date, which was fine. Since then I have played around with rooting my phone, installing different mods and installing newer stock samsung firmwares to try out Android version 2.3.4. etc.
After all this playing around I wanted to be sure that I could get my phone back to the standard O2 UK branded configuration in case I ever needed to send it in under warranty for repair. I hunted around on the internet and found a website with a link to a copy of the official O2 UK branded firmware which was a tarball called: I9100XWKDD_I9100XXKDH_I9100O2UKD1_HOME.TAR. Using odin I flashed my phone with this firmware and now my phone starts up with the O2 logo and everything seems back to normal, except when I connect it to Kies. I know for a fact that the O2 firmware I'm now on has been superseded by newer releases from O2, but when I connect to Kies, it says:
"Your device does not support software upgrading via kies. Current firmware version: I9100XWKDD/I9100O2UKD1/I9100XXKDH/I9100XWKDD"
I'm guessing that there is something else on my phone that I need to install/flash/change for Kies to start recognizing it as "Official". Does anyone know what this might be? What is it that Kies looks for on your phone to work out if it supports upgrading it or not? I am running the latest version of Kies.
I have attached a screenshot from my kies to show you what I'm talking about and a screenshot from my phone to show you software/firmware versions it is running.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Cheers

I have got two recommendations for you:
1. Have a look at http://fus.nanzen.se/ to get Check Fus Downloader and check what the latest official firmware for your phone and region is.
2. Got to Intratech's Carrier Branded Firmware thread here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928 to get the carrier branded firmware you want/need to flash using Odin.
If you do not need a carrier branded firmware (Kies does not need a branded ROM on your phone), you can also check Intratech's Official Firmware thread here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 to get the latest official and un-branded firmware flashable via Odin.
See second post of his thread.
If you flash a stock ROM for your region, KIES should recognize it again.
Good luck !

You are a lifesaver! Thank you so much for your recommendations. I downloaded Check Fus Downloader which I was then able to use to download the latest O2 UK firmware, which, as it turns out, was only released yesterday and uses android 2.3.5. I then used odin to flash the new firmware and now when I connect to Kies it says I have the latest firmware installed.
Happy Days!! and Thanks again!

I have the same issue, when i upgraded the Stock firmware. When connect to Kies, message popup is "Your device does not support software upgrading via kies. Current firmware version: ...XXKH2"
I have reset to factory format my SG2 9100 (watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzDb6m7sQ7A&feature=related). After that when i connect it showing current and latest firmware..
I did exactly the same as the OP. I just flashed back to the latest carrier firmware and Kies still does not recognize it but I don't really care.
My question is: if I send it to warranty, is there any way they can see I have previously installed other official firmwares from Intratech's thread? I have never rooted it, only installed official firmwares.
Thanks.

Samsung honour official firmware for warranty does not matter if you have reflashed as long as the firmware is stock and custom rom counter is zero .

If you flashed the firmware using Odin, will you stay rooted after that? Or you will have to root it again? Sorry, I'm new to the Android world.
Thanks in advance,

Depends on what firmware. Some custom firmwares come rooted. Official stock firmwares do not.
Hello,
I upgraded my galaxy S2 to the SFR (France) ICS firmware I9100SFRLP7 by using CheckFusDownloader. It works but unfortunately my mobile is still not recognized by Kies. The message "your device does not support software upgrading via kies" is displayed on the screen.
Phone Info:
PDA: I9100BULPC
PHONE: I9100BULP6
CSC: I9100SFRLP7
Any idea ? If the CSC is not correct, what is the correct one and how to change it ?
Thanks for your help.
Hi guys.
I really need to return to swedish stock firmware on my GT-P7510 but I can't find it anywhere. The csc on the original firmware is NSE. Is there anyway to mess with kies to upgrade it to original NSE. Or if someone has tips on how to get swedish stock firmware back I would be extremely grateful.
Best regards, Martin.
Go to samfirmware.com and the Swedish rom should be there?
Will have to be flashed through Odin, if you don't mind a non-Swedish, but official Samsung, check this site:
http://www.teamovercome.net/p7500/?page_id=5 and check section ' Backin’ Up Yer Data & Apps…'

No the firmware isnt available on sammobile. Maybe it would work if igot the csc-files for NSE and then update it OTA? But where do i get those?
I assume the celtic region covers Sweden? Last I checked it was covered under that.
Im currently on an UK-firmware and tyis is not right. The swedish one comes with some swedish bloatware. The uk one i have installed is 3.1. If i could only change the csc to nse instead of xeu as it says now I probably would get the rigt firmware OTA? i remember there was an 3.2 update OTA when i bought the Tab. Am i wrong with my theory, or you think it will work?
Flash a celtic region via Odin.
By celtic you mean?? Because i have flashed the uk/ireland firmware with odin and this doesn't contain the NSE csc.
Does anyone know where to get hold of csc files for either NSE or NEE?
Shouldnt they be included via SIM pack? Most sim's come preloaded with the carrier's APN and such
No. Those files are region codes in the samsung firmware. These files make the update-server decide which fw to send to the phone/tab.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
But that shouldn't matter as sooner or later the ICS release will be one general update, It would be like IOS firmware, one general firmware for all regions. Region wise can be determined via IP Address as far as I know. When I had my tab flashed with a malaysian region firmware *Bought it online* as soon as It reached Middle East (where i received it) the update was available via Kies for Middle East update, and not the Asian firmware one.
Then again, why the hassle of kies, Odin for the win. Flashing different regional firmwares since 2007
When I connect my S3 to Kies, it shows the following firmware : PDA:LH9 / PHONE:LH9 / CSC:LH9 (BTU) [Am running the JB leaks]
I bought my S3 internationally, so that is probably why the firmware is the UK version.
However, I live in India. So, my question is, when the official JB comes out, will I be able to update my S3 to that from Kies after removing root & resetting the Flash counter from Stock ROM ?? But will I also have to change the CSC code to India to be able to update from India or just flashing the Indian 4.0.4 firmware from Sammobile will be good enough. I don't really have much idea about CSC, so please forgive me if it's a stupid question.
Sorry, if this already been asked before, but I couldn't find any info upon searching.
Thanks
The CSC isn't relevant at all. You can go to http://sammobile.com or even http://androidfirmwares.net and look for the relevant Multi-CSC ROM. Now saying this is don't know what's the CSC code for your region if one exists but it won't make a difference what you flash because there's no differences.

Grab your stock Rom from sammobile original and why not new JB when it comes out for your exact provider. I'd flash it with mobile odin pro and keep everoot. Counter will be 0, status will be normal. Need warranty remove traces of root unroot and you're done.

Hi all, I need some information/help regarding the method to unroot my phone. i have checked a bunch of sites online and i know what the general idea is, but i can't seem to find the original firmware for my phone.
i am currently using an i9300 that I purchased unlocked from Amsterdam last summer. i have rooted it and have been using it on cm9 stable for the international s3 and now want to go back to stock firmware for warranty reasons.
i have been through the list of firmwares on samsung-updates.com but I am not sure which firmware i should install for my specific phone. there are a few netherlands links that i saw but were for tmobile...
furthermore, using *#1234# on my phone doesnt do anythign at all. the baseband version is i9300CELH1 when i go into about phone.
please help me figure out where I can find the original firmware for my phone that will keep it in its original warranty.
Thanks and I apologize in advance if I come off as a noob!

my phone was unlocked, got it for 600 euros so it wasnt locked to any carrier as far as I know.
sam mobile shows tmobile and vodafone, and a third one that doesnt mention any carrier. should i just go ahead with that? either way, is there a chance of my phone being bricked?

There is always a 'Chance' of being bricked but to be honest if you follow the Instructions it should be all ok, I have flashed via ODIN quite a lot and never had any issues Id say go for whichever ROM version you want e.g. is 4.1.2, I know new version is out on Vodafone so id say give that one a try just make sure to select the correct model number
I'm entirely new to this so try to bear with me
I recently bought a Galaxy SII from a one day deals store and it arrived running Gingerbread 2.3.5. I want to update to the latest version available for the SII however the OTA update won't connect to the server and Kies (after at least two hours trying to get it to recognise my device) has told me that my current firmware can't be updated. Unless someone knows an obvious fix for Kies I guess I'm stuck with having to flash the new firmware using Odin. I'm using a guide on CNET (unfortunately I can't post links yet) that goes through installing ICS but replacing ICS with Jelly Bean.
The biggest problem is which firmware to get. My CSC code is OXA (Open Europe). Do I have to find firmware that matches that or can I just chose any one that I please then follow the guide that I'm using? I've been looking on SamMobile and there is a lot of different regions to chose from but none of them have the OXA CSC code and I don't know what to do. Also, is there anything I should look out for? I don't want to brick my phone.
Thanks in advance for your help. I'm sure it gets tiresome helping people like me.

There you go OXA It seems open Europe ended at 2.3.5 .. No wonder you can't update.. Anyway Poland's firmware should work just fine. Or just search the firmware of your own region. Do remember to do a factory reset after flashing JellyBean!
Alternately I recommend this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 Its the latest firmware Samsung has to offer.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I think I understand now. The CSC is really only relevant to your current version. If I flash Jelly Bean from another region the CSC will just change to that region and still work as normal? Does it have any effect whatsoever on the function of the phone?

Yes CSC is bundled with the firmware. Dunno why but every time I flash a firmware it does not come with CSC and I must flash it manually.. Now that's a whole other story. If you plan on flashing a firmware not related to you region e.g you flash a European firmware while you stay in Asia then the CSC is quite pointless as kies won't let you update through it anyway. That said you must have the correct CSC/Firmware/Modem and region to recieve official updates through Kies. If not updating via Odin is good as well .

Well I live in New Zealand and the phone that I have has the European CSC code. The site that I got it from is called 1-day who claim to find the best prices from around the world in order to give ridiculously low prices. I assume that means that my phone came all the way over from Europe. Based on what you say then, I assume then that the CSC wouldn't matter in my case anyway as even stock, my CSC is in the wrong region?

Its OK at most bring it down to Samsung service centre and ask them to update your phone to the latest they have. They should be more then happy to help.

Awesome, thanks for your help. I'm fine with just flashing it with Odin. I was planning to root it anyway. I'm just trying to find out as much as I can before I try.
