Internal and external sd cards - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hi there, when connecting mini with the official ics to pc, only external sd shows up. With no pc connected, it seems the external sd is not mounted.
How could I copy files between internal and external sd cards? Thanks!

Anyone can help?

You can't copy your internal files to pc, cause there is in internal memory just files install..(correct me if i wrong)..

The only way to see the system files is with a root and "root explorer" and you will see them in the phone, the copy the archive from the system to your SD card and the conecto to pc to see the file, the pc cannot access the files directly only modify(like flashtool) the system

The camera always store photos in the internal sd card. Is there a way to copy the photos to pc or the external sd without root?

droid explorer lets you see and manage all contents of your phone. It's normal that when connected you can only see the "external" memory, it is not normal that the camera app saves pictures to internal memory (you sure about this?) have you tried looking in folders like dcim or 100andro on sd card?

What? That can't be because if you make a 1 min video recording puff say goodbye to your 150mb of storage, I'm sure you are confused, all the photos and video are in the mini sd in the folder dcmi then 100android something like that, you will never find the option of where to save photos because they are by default stored in the mini sd

[Q] Apps use internal storage as SD card, can not see actual SD card

New Atrix, unmodded. Tested on default storage setting set in either internal storage, or sd card.
16g sd card.
Card contains music, books and pictures.
File manager of the phone can see it and folders on it just fine, music player can see music files on it just fine.
Market bought music player( Power Amp) does not see SD card, it can only see internal storage as SD card.
Cool Reader- same- it thinks internal memory is SD card.
Neither can browse to the SD card.
Both apps worked with droid x and nexus s phones succesfuly before.
Apps that have ability to browse internal memory (tiny player and fbreader)- can go to /sdcard-ext/ and find files there.
Is there any way to make sure that apps, that are built to use SD card for their media would be able to see and use SD card, instead of "virtual" SD on the Internal Storage?
Thank You

Hi,
I had the same issue with a app called Slideshow Bob. I came from a Samsung Captivate and the file system was such that the external card was seen as a subdirectory of the internal card. I never had a problem with this arrangement in apps. However, the Atrix sees the external card as completely separate and some apps simply could not "see" the external card. My solution? I used a different slideshow app. Not exactly the ideal solution, but I had spent enough time trying to work around it. I don't know how other android devices have the external card arrangement, but this may be a bigger issue than we'd like until app developers change their apps or Motorola decides to change it's storage arrangement. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your answer,
using different apps is a work around.
I used different one- moved my content to the internal storage.
Both work.
What I realy would like to see is - those apps work as intended, the way they do work in most android phones from Droid to Nexus S.

Has anyone tried to replace the Music folder on internal storage with a symbolic link to the Music folder on external? Not sure if Android supports symbolics or not...
Should have known it would'nt be this easy. Tried it on existing SD and found that symbolic links are not supported on FATx. Reformatted my SD to EXT3/2 and booted back up. I get a SD format not recognized error.

[Q] permanently download from card reader to gallery

I can't seem to figure out how to permantly download pictures from memory cards to the gallery on my tab. They show up as long as card reader is plugged in but disappear when removed. Using the Samsung USB adapter with Sony 17 in 1 card reader.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Tried searching but my keyboard disappears when I click on search box......?
I'm not sure what you're asking. It makes sense to me that once you unplug the card reader that none of pictures on the card reader would be viewable.
If you want those photos in your gallery after you remove the SD card then copy them to the Tab's internal memory from the SD card.
Thats what im trying to do... Transfer files to tabs internal memory.

Use a file explorer app like EZ File Explorer, ASTRO File Manager or Root Explorer. In your /sdcard/ folder copy the images from a folder named usbStorage to your Pictures or any other folder in /sdcard/.
Ok thnx... Will try tonite

[Q] External SD card problem.

Hello,
I did bought orginal Samsung mincro SD card 32gb class 10. I did put inside to the phone and first what i did after phone did show me space 29gb i did format it from phone options in settings of storage. After format i did reboot my phone just in case. Now i did plug in phone to my pc and all do work fine. My pc see Internal and external storage on my phone. After when i did copy files to my external memory of my phone and do unplug micro usb i cant see my external sd card on my phone. In apps like winamp/RockPlayer/BSPlayer/ES File Explorer...all what i can see is only sdcrad which is internal memory. I cant see external memory at all.
Best thing is when i do put movie anywhere on external sd card by usb/pc and run build in samsung app "Video Player" its see video form external sd! I dont know whats going on and i did have S2/Dell Streak/Note and never had problem like this before.

There is no Root folder or mnt.
Oki small update. I just did give a go to one more app "Root browser lite" and i can see all folders and sys files. Looks like problem is with moust of apps which can't handle way of G3 works with external sd card. I'm right?

Yes you're right. The s3 and other devices that have like 16/32 GB internal memory uses part of it for system and the rest is mounted as "sdcard"when infact it's internal memory. In addition to this sdcard there's the real sdcard which is mounted as external-sdcard. Many apps are programmed to look for only sdcard and not ext-sdcard. For such programs creating a symlink using the above tool that I posted will help it "see" contents/folders of the ext-sdcard.
As you mentioned some programs can and some can't browse/see ext-sdcard - if it's absolutely necessary, creating a symlink is the only option I can think of.

Confused about internal and external SD card

This is probably a dumb question, but I am confused a little about the SD card situation. I have a Verizon S3. I see the phone comes with 16gb of storage that is in the folder SD Card, and that when I put my own SD card into the phone that I can find it under the mnt folder in the root directory. My question, is the SD memory that came with the phone built in, like a virtual SD card, or is that a card that is removeable? If it is not removeable, how do I setup my phone to make my personal SD card the one is being shown when I go to /SD Card/? I have a class 10 and prefer to have easy removable access to my default SD card, and having it under mnt/extsdcard is a bit annoying.
The sdcard is internal storage. All your apps etc will be saved there. If go to /mnt/extsdxard that's your memory card. Apps can no longer be downloaded to your extsd. Your camera has an option to make pics taken save to your sdcard. You'll find the pics in /extsdxard/dcim/camera

Ok so then I guess my best solution is for anything I want to know I can access with my personal SD card is to just redirect things to it. I don't put installed apps on SD but figured a lot of things are better on a removeable card incase my phone breaks or bricks and I want access to those files. I can just configure apps that allow me to choose where to save things to save them on my external card if I think I want that. Thanks for the info.

SD card question

I have bought a new tablet (Asus k019) and a new sd card because I can only use 4/8gb of internal storage, but I can't download any game/app bigger than 1.5 gb (I have 1gb left on the internal storage) because it says I don't have enough memory and any picture I recieve on whatsapp or any picture I take it's saved on the internal storage (called /sdcard/ in file manager and the card /MicroSD/ ,btw). On my old phone all my media it's automatically saved on the sd card, not on the internal storage. How can I make the sd card the default location for apps/media?

You will have to set it in each app. Also even if you move the app to the sdcard most of the data will still be on internal storage. This is due to the way android boots things up. The sdcard is not made to run games off of.

I dont think that app has the option. The main reason is mostly due to google removing the base code for SD cards. Each OEM adds them back in their own way so there is no universal way to code an app for it.
Check the settings. I dont use it nor does anyone that I know. We all moved away when FB bought it.
