i'm looking for a hdmi cable for my tf300 (so i need a micro hdmi to hdmi cable)
on amazon i saw this one has good reviews but it's kinda expensive considering it's too short. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004286VMW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&smid=A1DCPNQKKEISZB
but other cheaper cables have review like "after a few days/weeks of use it broke". so i'm not sure if the one above is worth price, should i buy it?

I have that cable it is works fine, if 6 ft is to short for you get an HDMI coupler and use another HDMI cable to make it longer. I have done this too.
Look here for coupler:

thanks.
but i just found this one for the same price and it's 10 feet long which is enough for me (i guess)
also got 5 star review from 21 people, looks promising. already ordered

Now I remember the tablet aspect ratio is 16:10 but my tv aspect ratio is 16:9. So what's gonna happen?

changes the tablet to 16:9 actually, meant for normal HDTVs. oddly, output to my 16:10 monitor is wonky, only seem to get 640x480 or some garbage. sad as its my tv/movie screen.
using the cable i bought with my Droid X2, was $20 when i got it, works fine, 6ft

so when i connect the tablet to my tv using the cable, the tablet will automatically change to 16:9?
and i forgot to mention that the main reason i want to see things on my big TV is because i want to watch youtube videos, everyday there are many videos that update news,... (like cnettv, theverge), and i just figured out i can't turn off the screen while watching with hdmi, because if i turn off the screen then on tv the it's just going to be black too.
so what's the point of using hdmi? i have to leave 2 screens on when i only need 1, that will drain the tablet battery, won't it? i think i could save battery if i can turn the screen of the tablet off.
any solution for this?
Any cheapo one will work, I got one for like $2-3 on Amazon and it had worked just fine since I got it months ago.
http://www.monoprice.com
5.1
Any one how makes 5.1 Dolby Digital out of the TF300? I cant get it with micro HDMI cable.
http://www.mobiletechreview.com/tablets/Asus-Transformer-Pad-TF300.htm says
The TF300 can output 3D content to a 3D TV over HDMI and it supports 5.1 audio out over HDMI. 5.1 audio worked fine in our tests; in fact it was much more reliable than the finicky Prime.

Did you try playing games using HDMI? I have my Samsung galaxy SIII HDMI and when I use it like playing Racing game output in tv is a few seconds late so you will end up crashing a lot...:cyclops:
Anyone have try gaming using big screen and any recommendation of a good quality HDMI cable? I'm planning to get the 10 feet that nooktablet gave in this link.

Yes I play riptide gp on HDMI with my tf300 and it run smoothly really fun, and I use that HDMI cable. I have tried other games like extreme skater, jetpack joyride, (which are not racing games) and they run smoothly too.
FYI, that $9 10 foot HDMI cable is really long enough for me, and it's a micro HDMI to HDMI cable
I recently got a $7 25 foot HDMI to HDMI cable for my computer. I mean it's very cheap, $2 cheaper than the one for my tf300 and 15 more feet longer and working awesome. So maybe you can find one for your tablet really cheap
I just bought this 15ft HDMI cable and It'll be interesting to see how well it's made. I'll post a review when I get it. :good:

Ok folks, I'm back to let you guys and gals know that this cable is legit and looks to be very good quality. The cable itself is a decent thickness and the ends are indeed gold-plated.. OH, can you say FAST SHIPPING!!??!!?? I just ordered it the other day and it's already here. Also, the high pitch noise that occurs when recording video w/ the TF300T is all but gone when playing through HDMI. This is gonna be SWEET for movies and games!!!!!! 15 FT of cable...... I can't wait for your feedback so I bought this from ebay. Bought it last Monday and got it by Wednesday, 10 FT and Gold plated, right fit in the tablet and TV and long enough to sit my tablet to table and I can sit comfortably to our couch. I notice a few screen flicker last Wednesday but yesterday none. I can say I can play videos/youtube without any lag but for games I can say ok, it's somewhat blurry for RipTide when you use nitro but for NFS Most wanted it's fine. sound was also great I can really feel I'm in the race.
Can you try the same test for racing games especially riptide? thanks!

Hello all,
So i finally got my hand on the transformer prime, and are ready to test the hell out of it.
Im planning to make a video review like the first transformer.
Before i do it id like to ask around and see what people would like to know about the tf prime aside from the obvious thats already been addressed by most review sites.
Im not a developer so dont ask things that are too technical.
Questions ill be able to answer are like what video format does it play, does it get warm and things like that.
And please dont ask me about the release date, i have no idea,
Bought mine from taiwan computer exhibit.
Ill collect the info and post thevideo hopefully by tonight.
*Sneak previewed: the first reaction when i opened the box, WOW!!!
Edit: I'm sorry guys, making the video takes a little longer than I expected, I'll make sure to post it by tomorrow night.
PS. Please read the post before reply so i can organize the qs more efficiently.
Edit: the videos are up on YouTube, I feel like I didn't cover half as much as I'd like to say,
Will do an update video, sorry guys

Video 3 is up, covers things like gaming, super note and onlive
Edit not sure which time:
video 4, hdmi out to 55inch display, demo of 1080 High profile mkv video clip (played with MXplayer) + Onlive arkham city with bt keyboard

a quick note on standby battery life,
I charged it fully last night, unplug it from the charger.
Wifi is connected to my home router and set to never turn off. (actually everything in setting if left as Out of the box)
went to bed, and this morning , about 8 hours in standby. Battery reads 98%.
I don't have a good way to test the battery life, but it doesn't feel any shorter than the ipads. So it's definitely more than
the 5 hours claimed by the Verge.
EDIT:
I just got some preliminary results on wifi performance.
3 meters from the router, nothing in between
download upload
laptop 18mb/s 2mb/s
TF101 15mb/s 3mb/s
Prime 12mb/s 2.5mb/s
6 meters from router, with wooden wall in between
download upload
laptop 14mb/s 2mb/s
TF101 9mb/s 2mb/s
prime 7.8mb/s 2mb/s
it appears prime does have a slower wifi speed, not dramatically though,
I'm suspecting the metal chasis is causing some sort of interference.
but keep in mind these are preliminary result and I haven't repeat it nearly as enough
to confirm the result.
And from what I've heard in Taiwan they've already made progress in the issue and the wifi
performance are hugely improved. (I'm pretty sure mine is the first batch)
Edit (again):
By going even further away from the router with more obstruction in between,
the results became obvious.
about 15 meters away, with concrete, doors, windows in between (outside of my house to be exact)
wifi signal shows one bar (for both TF101 and prime)
download upload
TF101 3.5mb/s 1mb/s
Prime 0.67mb/s 1.25 mb/s
Despite from the wifi result, I don't really feel any drop in wifi speed with the prime, perhaps due to the faster page rendering speed with the prime. In a user point of view, couldn't really notice the difference. Reliable sources in Taiwan indicated that they are aware of the issue, and good progress has been made to improve the performance of the wifi signal. So my guess is by the time you guys receives your units, the wifi strength would be much stronger compare to mine.
I know this might seem a little biased, but I just have to add that the PRIME is without a doubt the best piece of electronic device I've used in years.
***by the way, never experienced the SOD (sleep of death), woohoo!! hopefully it is gone for good.
Best,
A.

The top, where the camera is gets warmer than before ( i was charging it at the same time though)
But never to the point thats uncomfortable.
I think ipads 1,2 still have the best scrolling in the world,
Because it heavily related the software. Its smoother, but notipad smooth yet, lets hope ics can deliver that, and i think it will.
-How well does it handle flash content? Try playing a normal flash game like Boxhead and see how well it runs and how well the dock (if you have it) emulates a keyboard.
-If you got the grey version, is it too purple? (Been getting mixed opinions regarding the purpleness)
would love to see some quick handwriting on ezpdf. Not sure if the original has any lag while doing that but thats definitely something I will be using the prime for
Why can the prime not handle simple text inputs in the browser? With Tegra 2 it did this in any browser, could u test this for us further?
And what about the checker board patterns while scrolling?

Could you please do an in depth look into the camera/ quality of pictures in low light, normal light, sunshine etc., videos in full 1080p and give a comparison as to how it stacks up with something like iphone 4s since they seem to have very similar cameras.
Also can you sample the sound from the device, is it by any chance tinny/ has low volume.
Check the wifi performance if you can, there has been this problem with a few reviewers.
Flash performance on websites would also be nice to see.
Play a 720p/1080p video off a SD card I'm very curious if there would be noticeable lag?

Can you guys link me to that review i haven't read anything on that yet.
How is the position of the speakers effecting the sound experience? Does it feel like you're hearing from distance despite the loudness? Do the speakers have a proper headroom regardless?
Many thanks.
What is the sound/music quality like via head/earphones? Is the Prime able to drive high impedance headphones? And does the stock music player support FLAC files?
Thanks for doing this! I'm sure I'm not the only one that's envious of you getting the Prime so soon
Is the 40 pin connector on the PRIME the same as the TF101?
For example, the USB to 40 pin connect cable the same?
If you have the 40 pin adapter to USB from TF101 will that work?
Thanks
That is the question. How many of you are just purchasing the tablet and why?
The added benefits of the dock are self explanatory but are they worth the additional 150 dollars to you?
I wonder if working professionals would find the dock as more of a necessity? I may eventually purchase the dock due to the fact that it would work very well in my current job functions.

I'm a student and the dock and tablet combo is a must-have for me. had the xoom, but taking lecture notes on a touchscreen is too difficult. Used the og transformer w/dock all last year, and it was awesome combo. used as just a tab when couch surfing, and used as netbook when at school.
The tablet + dock combo works way better than a laptop for me for a couple reasons, my laptop is heavier, and battery life sucks, so i constantly have to find an outlet at the library which are always taken up.
PS: In the future please put any questions in the Q + A thread. i noticed u used the xda app, and like me when in favs u never noticed the QA section was made. U have to log in/out and redo the favs to get it to show.
I've pretty much decided that if it weren't for the dock, I'd probably get an ultrabook and a Kindle Fire. The things I'm using a tablet for would be well enough served by a smaller/cheaper tablet, while I need something light with good battery life and physical keyboard for writing. The Prime+dock works well for that, but an ultrabook would work well enough (albeit so for for about $1100).
Note that the writing I'm talking about is draft copy, so I tend to just put words into Evernote and then copy/paste to Word on the desktop for formatting/finishing work. If I needed something to produce finished work with, the Prime+dock wouldn't work.
Actually, The price is just perfect...
think of it this way:
1- If you wanna buy an external battery pack it will cost you around 40-50 $
2- Bluetooth keyboard 30-50 $ minimum
3-USB dongle for USB host 15$ (still not available btw)
4- a stand for the tablet 5-10$
5-adding to that the SD Card slot
All in all you will end up paying around 120$ for much worse quality & convenience for the same functionality. It just makes the prime so much better.
I just want the tab, already have a laptop complete with keyboard. A thought comes to mind, why not a sliding kb like the phones which can be slipped on/off, less footprint. If some smart hacker can figure out how to exploit the theremin effect, a touchless keyboard with aural feedback come become reality. We need new technologies and innovation folks, push the envelope!

asus makes a sliding keyboard version of the OG transformer, i'd guess it's only a matter of time so long as that model did well in sales.
personally i found it to be kind of awkward when i played with it at the store, the dock at this size makes more sense to me and has the added functionality of ports and battery.
The only reason I'm getting a Prime is damage to my TF101.
The only reason I got the TF101 was the dock.
I use it like a netbook was originally intended to be (and like modern tablets excell at), not like a laptop or desktop.
I like the battery gain.

Same here. I wouldn't buy a tablet that didn't have this functionality
I cant justify the cost of the dock. I got the tp mostly as a textbook reader and something to carry around the hospital where i work. Screen quality + thinness + good battery was most important for me.
Ironically I purchased a tablet so that I get less distracted and limit my typing speed so that I am forced to read. I have a 3.2lb ultraportable full voltage i5 Toshiba R835 laptop already with 8 hour battery, but I get too distracted because its just so fast and easy to use. I browse around aimlessly, so i have been using tablets to take away the bad habit. I cant switch between pdf book to webbrowser with 5+ tabs as easily and I cant chat too quickly so in the end I get smarter from these limitations.
I originally bought the TFP because of the dock to ween myself off of laptops.Ive had it almost three weeks now and am still trying to get hold of a KB...Guess what??..not sure I want one now..I love my Prime and have been very comfortable bed/couch/patio surfing etc..I am interested in gaming with a controller but not sure if thats worth the $150 now..
Dock is the only reason I'm buying Prime. I would not buy a tablet with weak WiFi, non-existent GPS and just 1GB RAM otherwise. I'm using it to replace my netbook that I mainly use for movies, internet browsing and casual note-taking. Battery life is also a huge factor to me in comparison to my current netbook.
I picked up the Prime mainly due to battery and dock. I needed something cover conventions such as E3 and CES without having to worry about plugging it in halfway through they day.. It's the reason I had the original one as well.
I"m debating on ordering one now too. But I mostly surf and game but it would be nice to be able to type faster with a dock when I'm on the forums. What I'm wondering if once docked will I be able to play games just as well or would it just get in the way?
I got the Prime because I could get a Dock for it. I like the Extra Battery and the USB port that the Dock offers

Pulled the trigger then cancelled. Is it true that's it'll be too top heavy with the tablet docked? I usually use the tab on my lap or sitting on my abdominal area when laying down. There are times its on my bed when I'm sitting up so for the most part the screen will be tilted back a little. I think the dock will end up just getting in the way or annoying me since the entire thing will fall on its back a lot.

It' really isn't top-heavy to the point where it's impractical or falling over all the time. I spend a majority of my work day with it on my desk opened up in laptop form and the screen tilted back. There's enough weight in the dock to hold it down, and it still takes quite a bit of force to push it to make it fall over.
I just ordered a mini HDMI cable from Amazon this morning. But I'm not entirely sure what I will be getting.
I'm using Paranoid Android (ICS, CM9) on my phone, but I don't think it touched the webtop partition. The official webtop coming in ICS from Motorola looks cool, but I'm sure I don't have that. So will I just have HDMI mirroring, or what? My wife's Electrify is pretty much stock, so anything I'm screwed out of for unlocking and using an ICS ROM won't apply to her phone.
(Electrify is Photon minus WiMax/4G, and US Cellular branded; otherwise, same phone.)
Even with the official ICS update all you will get is mirroring as WEBTOP3.0=TABLET MIRRORING. Except for Moto specific apps there is very little difference between the two.

Yep, I'm screwed. I ordered the wrong cable. Didn't know there were 3. Maybe Amazon will let me return it; if not, the mistake only set me back $5.47. That plus what a micro will cost will still be fair.
But I mean, I won't need a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse, or dock, just micro to HDMI and I can run Android apps on my TV?

Everyone loves Monoprice, but their prices are 2-3 times or more what Amazon charges. Their prices are great compared with the store, but they're not the cheapest around by far. And my wife's not amused that I wasted five bucks on the wrong cable... Although I see now that my camera requires Mini HDMI, so maybe we'll hold onto the cable. We'd have to eat the shipping cost anyway, I'm sure. Not that I need an HDMI cable for my camera, since my TV doubles as my monitor, but at least the cable isn't useless.
Now I just need an HDMI hub/switch. Second-generation HDTV (if you consider the CRT ones to be first, mine is flat panel but also only 720p) only has one HDMI port. Oh man, Amazon slaughters Monoprice here! Monoprice's cheapest is $24.65 for a 3-in, 1-out switch, but Amazon has one for $9.04. Ouch!
with monoprice you get really solid cables, the cheaper ones are a gamble half the time.

So it's the Monster argument but on a smaller scale? Pay more and the cable works better, or don't pay as much and risk getting a dud? I see a lot of reviews on Amazon saying the cables are fine.
If the HDMI cable on Amazon doesn't work, I'll buy one on Monoprice for 4 times as much, and I'll get it in green, and consider the $1.65 a lesson learned.
no, monster claims better performance, monoprice only makes solid cables that won't have a short in them. I wish you nothing but the best though.

While it was a display port cable, Amazon allowed me to return it with free shipping... however I have Amazon Prime so I got free shipping to begin with as well. No money lost on my part.

Even with the official ICS update all you will get is mirroring as WEBTOP3.0=TABLET MIRRORING. Except for Moto specific apps there is very little difference between the two.

And, for me at least, the gamble has always been worth it to save 50% - 75%. I have no experience with monoprice, so entirely possible that I would find their prices quite acceptable.
In my experience, in the real world electrons really are very non-picky. Give them a path from A-B on a reasonable guage metallic conductor with reasonable quality connectors. It is that simple.
As I posted in another thread, someone did a double-blind test with a soldered string of dry cleaner hangers vs. Monster speaker cable. Nobody could tell the difference!
in the large quantity I've bought, I've had quite a bit of doa cables, just a hassle id rather avoid, but paying monster prices is just stupid.

Well, I got the cables, and the mini HDMI is indeed the wrong one (not that I doubted you guys). And the HDMI cable works. No dud. $1.65 got me a cable that works. I'll take that luck.
Photon didn't get an official ICS release. We're talking about Moto's ICS that they've been advertising, and rolling out for other phones, like the Droid RAZR. You can find it on YouTube on Motorola's channel, and it's probably been posted around XDA as well.
Finally ordered a proper micro HDMI cable. The mini HDMI cable fit our camera. We never figured on using the feature, but now we have the cable and it didn't even cost that much. No real loss I guess.
Got the Micro for $2.58. Amazon again. Free shipping again.
Disappointing.
I'm running AOKP right now, and all I got was mirroring, i.e. whatever was on my screen showed up on the TV. However, rotating it rotated it on the TV, but it stayed within a portrait frame, making it sideways. There's apparently no way to fill your screen, at least not that I could tell.
I'll test my wife's phone later. Locked, not rooted, and even running the stock launcher. Complete vanilla Electrify running Gingerbread, 2.3.5. Should be the same as an off-the-shelf Photon.
Much cooler on my wife's phone. Seemed to look better on the TV, and rotation worked. Looked kinda crappy (stretched). Played Asphalt 6 -- much cooler than playing it just on the phone. Still a crappy racing game though.
I suspect it not working well with the JB ROM is due to lack of drivers. So if you updated your Photon to 2.3.5 and you're sad that you can't unlock, know that you at least have this advantage, such as it is, over those of us who did unlock. And take advantage of it, I got the cable for under $3.
GameKlip Review:
I've been using the GameKlip for a few days now and here are my thoughts on it.
Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with GameKlip in any way other than as a satisfied customer.
First some background:
The GameKlip was created by a gentleman named Ryan French, a student at the University of Washington. He makes GameKlips for many android phones including all Galaxy S3 variants, the Galaxy Nexus, the HTC Evo 4G and One X, a bunch of Galaxy S2 variants, and the Galaxy Note. He is also developing a tablet version of the GameKlip. The GameKlip comes in both a wireless and wired version. This review is of the wireless version. The wired version is identical except it includes a mini usb to micro usb cable to connect the phone to the PS3 controller.
I love to play games on my G Note but I hate on screen controls, so I've been using the SixAxis controller app (Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...5ncGl4ZWxzdHVkaW9zLnNpeGF4aXNjb250cm9sbGVyIl0.) and a PS3 dual shock controller for a while. The only drawback is I had to prop the Note up somehow, either leaning it against something or using a case with a kickstand. So when I came across the GameKlip, I ordered one right away. Here are my thoughts on the GameKlip for the Galaxy Note I717.
The Good:
The GameKlip is well made and fits both the PS3 controller and the Note well. The GameKlip is constructed of black plastic. It takes a bit of wrestling to get it onto the PS3 controller, but once on the controller, it fits perfectly and securely. The GameKlip doesn't interfere with any of the buttons or bumpers and it holds the Note at a comfortable viewing angle. There are pieces of felt attached to the end tabs to prevent scratching on the edges of the Note and keeps it snug in the GameKlip.
The Bad:
The size of the GameKlip seems a bit narrow based on how wide the Note is. What I mean by that, is not much of the Note actually fits into the GameKlip. The GameKlip could have been another quarter inch or so taller t allow more of the device to fit into the GameKlip. The Note fits securly into the bracket, but I would feel better if more of the Note was held in the GameKlip.
The location of the bottom tabs on the GameKlip interfere with the hardware buttons on the Note. For example, if the Note is inserted with the micro usb connector to the left, the bottom right tab hits the power button. Alternately, if the Note is installed with the micro usb connector to the right, the bottom left tab hits the volume rocker. It prevents the Note from being fully inserted into the GameKlip bracket, which would not be a big deal except for the depth of the bracket is pretty shallow, as I noted previously.
Overall
Despite the couple design issues that I noted above, I am very satisfied with the GameKlip. It completely solves an issue that I had with mobile gaming and I give a lot of credit to the creator for identifying a smartphone accessory need that wasn't being addressed, or at least not being addressed properly, and creating a product that meets that need.
I have been using the GameKlip every day for my mobile gaming since I received it, and I definitely recommend this product to other smartphone owners who enjoy mobile gaming but hate on screen controls. I especially recommend this product to fellow Note owners because the size of the screen on our Note lends itself so well to gaming.
The GameKlip is available at www.thegameklip.com for $15.00 (wireless) and $23.00 USD plus shipping.
I'd definitely be in for one if he could make one that can accommodate the Mugen extended battery cover.
I'd be all over this but it doesn't work if you use a case...
If we get this, should we be getting the wired version or can we do it wireless?
Wireless works w/ the "Sixaxis Controller" app.
Yep, confirmed that the original PS3 Sixaxis as well as the DualShock work very well using the Sixaxis Controller app. Well worth the $2. I'm ten times better at "Dead Trigger" now than I was before.
GameKlip mod
I just emailed GameKlip and requested a GNote Klip w/o the side holders (leaving the bottom ones intact). IMO this would be the first step to a universal solution since you could (in theory) glue/velcro a phone case to the back... I'd pay for this. If GK won't do this I might buy it as is anyway and file the side holders down... Anyone see any pitfalls to this solution?
I'm in for one with the cable. I will let you guys know if the cable actually works or not, but I figured I could save some battery by keeping bluetooth off. That is if it works.

You need root for wireless.
The wired option is an OTG cable, and a USB -> Mini USB cable which is pre-zipped tied for neatness.
Even tho' I am rooted, for me, the wired version is worth the extra $8.
I thought I came up with an awesome invention when I thought of this last week. Somebody beat me to it. lol
i just ended up buying one
So buying one

I almost put that in the bullet points of my post above, but then I wondered if the controller will try to charge itself off of the Note's battery, so left it out.

To my knowledge the only way to charge a PS3 controller is either directly connected to a PS3, a PS3 controller dock, or laptop USB. Hadn't thought about it until now (I assumed it wasn't possible) but wired play would be good for me whenever I want to use my Bluetooth headphones while playing.
Has anyone received it yet?!?

The guy posts in the forums for the s3 all the time quick responses, he mentioned something about making sizes that would work with certain cases.

I got mine of Thursday, does exactly what it says on the tin. You cannot push the Note fully home as the lips that stop the phone from sliding through the bracket will end up pressing the volume up button in Landscape or the power button in reverse landscape. But it does hold the phone very securely.
By the looks of the PS3's LEDs (All four flash when charging), and by how fast my battery depleted, the USB OTG does charge the controller, so make sure that the controller is fully charged before you hook it up to the Note.
One complaint about some game developers...
If the game is played in Landscape. SUPPORT BOTH LANDSCAPE ORIENTATIONS!
I have the Samsung flip cover installed, so I have to place the phone in the GameKlip in reverse landscape, which some games, such as the Sonic games, do not support.
Can we get some profiles uploaded, I cant get mine to work. I could use a Deadtrigger ,GTA3 and Ashphalt 6 Profiles

I don't know about Deadtrigger (looking for that one myself), and Asphalt, but GTA3 works just like the PSone via SixAxis Controller for me.

Dead Trigger has gamepad support already, so there is no need to create a touch profile with the Sixaxis app. Make sure your controller is connected, then start the game. You should see a new gamepad option in the menus somewhere, and that will let you customize the controls.
Hey guys, just wondering if anybody has experience with an MHL adapter for our Droid DNA's that does 1080P and charges the phone? I bought one from amazon here, but it would only display 720P and the charging didn't work. So, any success stories? I'd rather not spend $30 on one of these if I can help it.

How can you easily tell if it's 720p or 1080P? I have a cheap adapter from Amazon, for my Galaxy Nexus, that works better with the DNA.
I would'nt recommend the one I got as the plug had no pins in it. But that's another option to look for.

I think most TV's display that in the upper right hand corner when a new device is connected. I've got a really cheap HiSense tv and it gives me that info. I ordered one off ebay I saw in another thread, I will update here if it does both of those things I wanted.
Well unfortunately still no 1080p, anybody know if out might have anything to do with the kernel or Rom?
