[Q] samsung.com site questions - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I'm living outside US and would like to register my S3 on samsung.com site.
Somehow it seems to be impossible for customers outside US.
Can't find the device (only devices with carrier agreement listed).
Is it somehow possible and I'm missing something out or ...

[Q] Help with market

hello
I am from syria i got htc sensation i want to use market to download program but it's not working here , i tried to use market enabler but still same i don't know what to do
Hi, do you have accept the ToS of the Market ?
Syria is sanctioned country for any company in the United States. Thus Google is not allowed to do business with anybody in Syria. See: http://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/sanctions/Programs/Pages/Programs.aspx
From what I've read you can run Android Market when you use a SIM from another country in your phone (the phone of course needs to be SIM unlocked to do that).
Yea no getting around the government shut down unless ya have an unlocked phone. But even then the service in your country may be locked instead of individual phones and sim cards. So even if you had say a US sim card would it even work, and if it did work once you got on the market would it allow you access outside your countries intranet to use google? Id ask around before spending any earned money lol... Here in America out internet isnt to limited. Going online and typing www.google.com and nothing showing up or getting that this website doesnt exist error would suck!
Just my noob 2 cents!

[Q] UK Titan - no US region settings

Hey everyone, sorry if this has cropped up previously but I've searched to no avail and no one from Microsoft has an answer either.
I've got a new HTC Titan sitting here, completely unused. I won it at the Windows Phone Inner Circle event in Denver weeks before the device's US launch, but I still haven't switched over. This is because the device is a UK phone. The phone does not appear to have any US settings at all, is unlocked, and even comes with a UK plug instead of a US one. Presumably, this is because I won the device before the US version was ready for release.
The issue is that even when I switch my region settings over to "English (US)", nothing actually changes on the phone when it restarts...everything is still English (UK). For example, "synchronising", "favourites", "colour", etc. At first I thought that this wasn't a big deal, but it might be if other region settings persist. So I have three related questions that I'd love to find out:
If/when a custom bootloader is released for the Titan, can I use it to flash a US ROM to my device?
I have to switch carriers to AT&T in order to fully use the Titan (hence my hesitation), but will bringing the phone to AT&T and letting them activate it have a chance of loading US settings onto the phone? I know that will load AT&T app marketplace options, which is why I was curious.
Most importantly, even if none of this can possibly change, will I at all be restricted by UK region restrictions for Zune, Marketplace, etc.? I have a US-based Zune and WLID account, but this is my main concern because of the phone's region.
If anyone can share some insights on this, I'd really appreciate it.

1. US ROM must be considered. Because the AT&T version Does use the different Chips for different Radio version. It might get the phone bricked. The Goldcard tecnique is not available on Titan, so Official AT&T Rom to flash on the phone is nearly impossible. It need to be done by 3rd party.
2. No. Your Live ID will determine which content you can access. Don't ask why people at Asia can still submit and buys apps that are for US only.
3. The region of the phone could be changed, but not the agent inside. So, don't be surprise that you have the English voice comeout from Tellme and Turn-by-Turn navigation from Bing maps doesn't work at US. You can change, the Region Format, System Locale and Browser &Search Language to English (United States) but it can't change the fact, that this phone is built for Europe user. I will ask HTC if they can bring the custom language pack (if possible) to Windows Phone. I am still talking to HTC Tech Support about this.
I contacted HTC Support several times and they didn't give me any solution (apart from doing a deadly mistake of telling me to search the Android Market for an application :S)!!
I'm still hoping we find a different ROM to flash. Is there an Australian version maybe floating around? I'm dying to use voice navigation and Tellme (which doesn't understand anything when set to English UK).
Thanks for the replies...starting to think maybe I should just sell the thing and use the money to buy a US Titan - especially due to the points about navigation and TellMe. Of course, I'd probably want to sell it to someone in the UK so no one else has region problems. Maybe I'll start looking into that.
In the meantime, if any encouraging news pops up about this, let me know

[Q] Phone to appear as tablet for carrier

Hi,
I have an Ouku Night tablet (device description available at Lightinthebox) that I purchased with a flexible data plan for tablets from Telus Canada. At the time I got the plan, I asked if this plan (designed for tablets) would work in a phone aswell and the answer from the rep was positive.
As expected, I found the tablet too big to carry everywhere so I got an unlocked HTC Inspire to be used as a smaller tablet. It worked for a while but now Telus tells me it is not a tablet so the plan won't work. They are not able to provide definitions of the differences between tablets and phones. I called 3 different reps to get the info without any success.
Here is my question: what makes a device appear as a phone or as a tablet to a carrier ? I do not want a phone plan with my devices, I just want to be able to access internet from everywhere I go.
Other question: is there a way to make a phone appear as a tablet to the carrier ?
Thanks for helping me better understand the android platform on those aspects.
I hope this can help future readers:
As I discovered from other readings, carrier finds out which phone you are using by its IMEI. There is a debate whether it is legal/illegal to change such a number but most people will advise it is illegal. XDA won't support threads about changing IMEI.
Now I still wonder if phones from China on ebay will show a phone IMEI or some unknown device type imei to the carrier which can be considered as tablet. Is there portion of the IMEI that states if it's a phone or SIM capable tablet ? If so, how can I better understand the IMEI pattern so I know how it is going to be considered by Telus Canada.
Thanks again.

[Q] Anyone with access to non-US social networks?

Anyone with access to non-US social networks such as the Chinese social networks RenRen, Kaixin001, Qzone, or Sina Weibo? (I tried to sign up for RenRen but I can't type Chinese to pass their CAPTCHA check) :crying:
The reason why I am asking is because I was hoping we can reach out to the International community of Motorola users who are affected by the latest ball dropped by Moto that are outside of the usual FB, Twitter, and Google+ realm since maybe some of those sites are banned or not accessible in other parts of the world. Plus, we have an online petition [click here to sign] that needs an additional 2,700+ signatures while we currently have 12,000+ signatures already to request Moto to change their decision and release ICS/JB or at least the unlocked bootloader.
In markets like India and China where the mobile phone market is booming, if we can get the word out about Motorola's practices to give them bad publicity it would get their attention because potentially hundreds of millions of potential customers may be lost. That should get their attention if it hasn't already.

ATT variant S21 purchased at retail from Samsung.com is locked to carrier and ATT unlock does not recognize IMEI? Anyone else have this issue?

ATT variant S21 purchased at retail from Samsung.com locked to carrier and ATT unlock does not recognize IMEI. Have already escalated to highest tier ATT and Samsung support offered to the public. In ATT's world, if a device is not in their IMEI database, it's not an ATT phone. Samsung claims that unlock codes were automatically shared with ATT when the phone was manufactured. They claim that after the codes are sent, they have no access to the data to provide an individual unlock code at a later date, even at ATT's request.
ATT claims they never received an unlock code for the phone which is why the IMEI is not in their unlock database. Their logic is that if the IMEI is not in their unlock database, it means they never received the unlock code. This logic leaves no room for the possibility of human error or a glitch in syncing data. Oddly, the IMEI is in ATT's warranty database. On ATT support tech suggested that only branded phones sold by ATT stores were supported with unlock codes. This raise the question as to why Samsung would sell a phone that cannot be unlocked and why they would lock it in the first place when it is not being sold on contract?
ATT has requested the unlock code from Samsung during one of my support calls and the request was denied. Samsung CS reiterated the position that they had already provided all codes and no longer had access to them. Third party unlocking services struck out with the IMEI. I can RMA the phone back to Samsung under warranty but likely face the same issue with the replacement. I could try to exchange it in an ATT store as it's in their warranty system but would like to not be setting up a new phone when all I am requesting is a code to remove a soft lock. Samsung's annual preorder trade up deal requires that phones be unlocked which is ironic since this one will likely remain locked indefinitely because the carrier and the manufacturer can't get on the same page. Most consumers with these phones will not realize they can't be unlocked during the Samsung warranty period.
Anyone else have this issue?
If you buy a carrier variant through samsung, you are going to get a locked device. Always buy unlocked if you want it unlocked.
That being said, I've been through this about a dozen times with AT&T. This is what needs to be done:
1- First, try the device unlock portal. This will inevitably fail, because the device isn't in their database. This is fine.
2 - Contact AT&T and be prepared to speak to people who have NO idea what you're talking about. If they say it can't be done, politely end the call and call back in. Ask to speak to *advanced* tech support. Explain that you got the device from Samsung, and you need the IMEI added to the database so you can get the device unlocked.
3 - Explain that you already tried the unlock portal, and they need to email the device unlock team to add the IMEI and get the device unlocked. This takes anywhere from 48 hours to a week, and might get rejected once or twice. If it does, go back to step 2.
4 - If you don't want to deal with that bull****, you can go on ebay and purchase a device unlock. You can either have them search the database for the code (PROBABLY won't work) or some sellers will remotely connect to your machine to unlock the device. I did it in the past for $30, looks like it's $60 these days.
I am seeking a high level contact at Samsung because this is a B2B policy issue which their technical support team, after multiple calls, has been unable and unwilling to help resolve. If anyone on XDA has a high level contact person at Samsung, please DM me. I will put them in direct contact with the AT&T Office of the Executive personnel attempting to resolve this issue and insure that it does not impact other customers.
Did you read my post? That is, step by step, exactly how to solve your issue. if you followed my instructions it would have been unlocked by now.
This has nothing to do with Samsung, this is an AT&T issue. And trying to find a "high level contact person" won't do you any good.
Follow. The. Instructions.
