I just flashed my TBolt over to the new Liquid Smooth ICS ROM by AOSP. What an excellent UI, it's very smooth, and it seems to have overall decent battery life. Still playing with it.
While loading a couple of my apps back on, I noticed SMS Backup and VZ Messages no longer work. They both installed with no issues, but when I attempted to use either app, it tells me "Unfortunately, SMS Backup has stopped." I then have the option of reporting the bug or hitting ok. Any ideas?
Try fixing permissions. If that doesn't work try to download the app again from the market and the restore data from tibu.

Yup, tried all of that and still didn't have any luck.
That's weird because SMS backup works fine for me. I don't know about the other though because I don't use it.

Thanks for the suggestion though. I like the Verizon Messages application because it allows group text messaging, similar to the iMessages system on the iPhone. If you know of any alternatives, I'm all ears
I think that gosms will do that. I haven't used that in a while though.

Haven't had much luck with gosms pro. Although, I did notice a few bugs when sending out group messages on this ROM. I guess I'll just wait for these bugs to be sorted out as more updates come through. Thanks for your help though!

The title says it all. I cannot get mms to work on Vanilla 2.2. Any Rom really. The only one it seems to work on is Stock 2.1. I've run various versions of KaosFroyo, Tazz Froyo, Nonsensikal, and the Sense Froyo Roms. None of them will work with mms on my phone for some reason.
I do however remember a while back that mms did work when I ran a version of KaosFroyo. Must have been something like v20 or somewhere around there. I've tried the methods of flashing and saving different apns and nothing works. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I dislike Sense. It's too laggy for me. Any help please?

Bad battery life is common especially if your flashing a lot if Roms ...try recalibrating your battery there's a forum that walks u through it. I feel your frustration I had no MMS when I upgraded to 2.2 (cricket network) but I tried a lot of stuff and finally figured it out ..I also had bad battery life but I figured out a work around by disabling 3G after every use. I basically read a lot of forums and experimented with different things to get MMS working.

I've been on the same ROM for about a month now and no dice. I don't know what to do. Battery isn't terrible, it just doesn't seem to be what it used to be. I like sharing pictures with my friends and family while I'm out and about, so mms is crucial for me.

I agree. Make a backup of your current ROM and then load up 2.1 again and make sure the settings are correct. After that do a fresh flash of Vanilla Tazz and then delete Telephony.db from /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/. Then delete the MMS.apk from /system/app and then try installing the attached Mms.apk and reboot your phone. Let me know if this works

Thats crazy. One more thing to try is deleting the mmssms.db and telephony.db but leave the stock mms.apk. Also make sure the build.prop has this ro.com.google.clientidbase=android-verizon-us
ro.com.google.locationfeatures=1
ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric=310012
ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha=Verizon
If that doesnt work than I have no idea whats wrong.

Ok ... for your MMS problem ... I was having issues with randomly being able to send/not send MMS/Email/Pic messages ....
I tried all the backup/restore/APN/options and was still having issues.
In the Telephony database, I had 2 bad rows of data, one of which semi replicated some of the pathways used for my MMS messages. I downloaded SQLite editor ( I think by Speed Software, same people that make Root explorer ).... I was able to manual delete the bad rows of data from the database. I did a new APN backup, and the bad rows were gone.
TADA!!
The SQLite editor is available on the market, and it costs like $3 or $4 ...

NOT SO FAST, MY FRIEND!!!
***
I need to correct myself ... after I deleted the row of data with the "unnamed" APN, nothing happened when sending MMS ....
***
I did a restore ... went back into the telephony.db :: "carriers" table and gave the APN a name ...
In my case, I had two rows of data referencing Verizon .... ( using the www.vtext.com address ) .... I left the regular one for Verizon, but the unnamed row I gave an alias and called it "VZW" ....
did a backup of the APNs, tested through multiple messaging apps, text, mms, picture, and reply to MMS, and all have worked without any problems.
I hope all this makes sense .... PM if you have any problems ( If you haven't already given up on the possibility of getting it working ) ...

Lately it's been taking about10-15 minutes of messing around trying to get the phone to send mms or just to wait for it to send. Sometimes starting two of the same picture helps but most of the time it's just a painfully annoying waiting game. Any ideas on how to fix this? Or anyone else having this issue?
Have you tried go sms pro, free in market? It can work as sms/ mms with stock app or in settings it can be a stand alone replacement. It has been my only sms/mms for a while now with no issues. I use it wether I am on a custom rom or a rooted stock one, I uninstall the stock one and use go sms, no problems.

I would agree, Go SMS Pro works so much better than the stock messaging app. I kept the stock version installed though, just disabled the notification. Works perfectly...

I've always had an issue when moving from one rom to another. Essentially I backup my close to 10,000 sms messages, and when I install the new rom attempt to restore them via SMS Backup and Restore app. After doing so it results in the stock messaging app becoming unusable and crashes, which results in lost service and a slew of other problems. As of late I started freezing the stock messaging app with TB and use Go SMS instead, but now I can't receive MMS. Anybody have a sure fire solution? Thanks
No one wants to help? I'd really appreciate some input. Thanks

I have over 10k messages I use to restore (SMS Backup & Restore) without problems, gone through basically every rom you can think of.
And yes I also use GoSms, cause after 1k messages the stock SMS decides it wants to lag like crazy.
Does the stock messaging app crash even when you're not using it? (When you leave it unfrozen)
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)
Yes it crashes regardless. I wouldn't mind if I could leave it alone and not worry about it, but whenever I boot the phone back up and its unfrozen it crashes my phone and it loses signal. Miui is the only rom this didn't happen to, which is why I'm still using it.

Still looking for a solution. The newer version of backup and restore lets you restore message from a certain date on, but not before that date. I feel like if I restored it in two stages with a reboot in between it would have any issues, but I have yet to find a simple method of doing so.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App
I was having this same issue after restoring my SMS/MMS messages. Then I used SMS Backup + to back them all up to my gmail account. After that I wiped them all out from my phone, and the stock app was still crashing, so I started using GO SMS again. A couple days later, the stock app just started working by itself all of a sudden when I got a notification for an SMS message in my status bar. I'm not sure what fixed it.

Did you try clearing the sms cache through manage apps?? sometimes doing this helps clear up glitches, I did this when I had the Phantom VM bug. not sure if it will work for this but its worth a shot.
Hope this helps

Hey, I saw this has been a while, but I am trying to do the exact same thing as you. How were you able to restore it in chunks?
You guys gotta try Pansi SMS (yes i know horrible name), but this is by far the fastest msg app thats out right now, and its not blotted like go sms, its simple to use and also customize-able
Liking it so far no bugs for me so far

Thanks for the tip.... I tried the app and it's ok. The menus look like it's from go Sms. I'll stick with the stock app for now.
Stock ICS app and SMS Pop-up will always be the best in my opinion. On GB I stick with Go. I tried this one, and while it ran nice it didn't really stand apart from any other messaging app.
Tried it, still prefer go sms pro

Pansi MMS Crash
Anyone experiencing "process com.pansi.msg has stopped?"
Everytime i try and send an MMS it crashes. I've wrote the developer 5 times and no response. And there hasn't been an update to the app since july 31, 2012. I have a Razr Maxx. Any help would be appreciated.

Personally for external SMS solutions, I use Google Voice as I can use it on my phone but also via my PC.

Sorry no help, but I have experienced exactly the same issue. Stock messaging sends MMS fine. Pity, Pansi is a superior product apart from this issue.

No new updates for pansi, its to bad. I love this app but now it drain battery, if you use betterbatterystat app than you will see for how long this app keep waking your phone.
TimeService wakelock of pansi drains your battery
So is any one using the ICS ROMs having issues with facebook? I am having this weird issue every time I try and post a status I get a FC. It happens to me on every ICS ROM (I also do 5x wipe every time I install the ROMS)
clear the app's cache and data. can also do the same with a reinstall. last resort would be to ditch the official app for something else
Works fine for me on CleanRom 4.1.

Agreed kryptik06:
I was trying to use Facebook more like Google+ with Customs lists. Looks like Facebook doesn't like that. Glad it fixed your issue. Took me awhile to find that answer too.
What was weird in my case is the issue kept following me to different phones. Then I logged in as my wife and had no issues. That told me it was a facebook setting. So I changed that and bam!
Good times!
