Boot into webOS, then type "webos20090606" (without the quotes) in "just type" . This should bring up the dev mode menu. Make sure that debugging is checked. You should now have root. Boot into android and try again. Also there's an app, root checker or something like that in the playstore, free. The superuser application could also have something to do with that. There are several threads on the subject, but since I haven't had the problem I didn't pay much attention to them. A search should turn up something. Good luck.
You need to install an app called BusyBox for it/titanium to work . Do that and post back if it helped .

:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
Don't bother booting into webOS to fix the problem. webOS has nothing to do with Android. Did it even ask you to allow or deny root access when you started Titanium Backup? If it did and you missed the opportunity to press allow, it will throw up this error. Try a couple things. First, fully kill the app and restart and see if it asks you for root access. If not, then I think it might be something to do with the SU app. SuperUser gives me problems every now and then even on my phone. Try downloading SuperSU and try opening Titanium Backup again. SuperSU should pop up asking you if you want to allow root access.

I've never downloaded BusyBox on my Touchpad and Titanium Backup works fine for me. I'm pretty sure its his Super User app. SuperUser has always been iffy with Titanium Backup. I dont know why but thats the only app I've ever had a problem with even though its not a constant problem. SuperSU in the play store seems a lot better with handling root access than the original SuperUser.
guys have done everything you have told me, even clear cache and davlik but nothing, I can not make it work!!

Wait, what are you trying to uninstall?
Maybe try uninstalling Titanium Backup and reinstalling it.
Also, do you have any other root apps that work right and are granted root access? Maybe root explorer or something?
I tried uninstalling superuser but will not let me.
I've done cache davlik and reinstalled titanium and busybox but still not working ..

Try INstalling the SuperSU app (not UNinstalling the SuperUser app) from the Play Store.

No. I didnt mean uninstall superuser. Download "superSU" from the play store. Its a totally different SU app. It will take over root responsibilities.

Did nothing from SuperUser pop up and ask for permissions for SuperSU? If not, I'm going to guess you should dirty flash your existing ROM and get SU fixed.
And make sure you checked the md5sum of your existing ROM before flashing.
EDIT: No, do the other thing he recommends. It looks more complete.
Ok, maybe you have a general problem with your TouchPad just not having root access all around. There is another thread in the Q&A section about not getting root access. Try what BIGSimon suggests here:

ok, I see .. thank you very much.

first, install root explorer in your device
then,download root master(chinese) in the computer
unpack it and install the file
then double click start to install
connect XT910 to the computer, and open the USB DEBUGGING mode,
just waiting your device reboot
download any Superuser from google play and open the Superuser, install the binary successfully ( this is the 1st time)
then
delete the root master in your computer
After the device reboot, find the icon below in the menu, it means root successfully
then go to root explorer System/app and delete the apk file
!!!THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!
Just wait and dont reboot yet. go to the superuser app (download from the play store) and update the binary again ( this is the 2rd time)
And it will be successful.(although u have deleted the superuser(chinese version. if u havent reboot, the root will remain.)
Finish! Reboot the device and you will find the superuesr(downloaded from the google play) will take over the root.
You can find the uploaded pictures of new superuser at Post #8 in this thread
go to system/app delete some apk files you dont use. and enjoy more RAM
Just a heads up, if you ever want to go back and upgrade stock it will fail until you replace the missing system apps.

Im on eu jb and I succeded in rooting with this method. Superuser doesnt install on updating binary, I have root but no superuser permission now. I have deleted the superuser from the rooting tool. Just one problem with this situation, I cant Install BMM, it says Its requires root access, it doesnt install coz I I dont have my binary updated. I can delete some apps from system and change permission, but no bmm. have tried with superuser and supersu.no work. Maybe we dont need to deleted that superuser from the root.
edit: tried once more and done. I dont install the superuser (the one from the root) and install superuser from market. Open the superuser (from market) and update binary success. I have BMM now...:laugh::laugh::laugh:

SORRY,i just miss write these two steps.
first should open the superuser downloaded from google play and install the binary successfully
then delete superuser.apk file in system/app folder
and reboot the device,
the device will use the superuser downloaded from google play as root tool
i already changed...
i delete that bcz the superuser is chinese,cannot read..
i just wipe data/cache, and redo the steps again.
finally success.
sorry for all inconvenience
.
and tested can use BMM
Doesnt work for me...after updating binary, delete the superuser from root and reboot, open the superuser and it requesting to update binary....but fail. Install the superuser from root again and binary update success....

I'm having some issues getting my LG L9 rooted. I bought the phone yesterday evening and immediately found the easy way to gain root, using the LGPwn.apk exploit. I did it last night and things were great- I could use Titanium Backup and everything. However, this morning when I went to go use TB, I was greeted with a message that said I didn't have root, and launching SuperSU gives me the "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it" popup.
I've tried a few things over and over now to get root back, from uninstalling and reinstalling SuperSU and LGPwn.apk, trying restore again and again, even factory resetting the phone. Nothing has worked- every time I try to use SuperSU I get the same message.
I've owned half a dozen Android phones and have never had such an issue as with this phone, and all I really care about is getting rid of the bloatware since I don't feel like taking on the bootloader right now. Does anyone have any advice? I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks.

Uninstall Superuser then turn your phone off. Take out the battery and wait for like 20 seconds. Then place the battery back in and turn the phone on. Let it load up and run a new fresh download of the LGPwin.apk. Once you hit restore just leave it alone. The phone should restart automatically for you. After it reboots download the SuperSU and install. If everything goes well look in the settings and place the SuperSU app in the system folder. Then download busybox and install before you do anything else. I use this one but a lot of people choose this one; your choice. Good Luck!!!

Thank you for taking the time to make these suggestions, but it still didn't seem to work.
I was coming off a fresh factory reset (though it still boots up with the 20f update), took out the battery for a minute, downloaded a new LGPwn.apk from jcase's original post, and did a restore. However, like in all previous tries, the phone doesn't automatically reboot after restore, as you said it should. It just shows the screen saying that the restore finished and needs a manual reboot.
Installed SuperSU and got the same message again, no SU binary.

This should get it working, when you use the LGPwn.apk to root, don't take your time and read all the instructions. Run through the root process fast (don't read just do) try this a couple of times. Another thing, use a root browser to check out the /system/xbin (and /system/bin) and see if "su" is in there. ROM Toolbox lite has a nice root browser. Don't worry you can get into the /system folder without root (but you can't access data).

I've tried restoring fast, slow, and in between, always the same result. su is in my /system/xbin but not in my /system/bin.
Also, if someone could point me in the direction of how to get this phone back to it's real original everything, that'd be great, seeing as how a hard reset/factory reset only gives the phone a clean slate while keeping all system updates (like 20f). I know I've come across something similar involving non-rooted flashing in the dozens upon dozens of forum threads I've searched in the last 24 hours, but can't seem to find it now. If this root method worked yesterday as soon as I brought the phone home, maybe it'll work if I can get the phone back to the exact same state? Thanks.

I agree with Kuma. . take your time and why don't you download a root checker while your at it. For some reason I had a little trouble with the root program too. It rooted my phone then it said I didn't have root so I just clsoed all my rooted apps, restarted my phone and did the restore binary again. I think I was hitting the ok button when it said restore complete. This time I let it reboot itself and I was fine. But I loaded superuser first and titanium backup, root explorer, terminal, link2sd and once I saw those were running fine I installed superSU and it deleted superuser and then I placed superSU onto the system in the setting section. Ok I'm rambling. . .just keep trying for some reason there's something going on and the only thing that I can think of is that you are already rooted but it's just not working properly.

That's what I'd think, but its apparently not true here. Also, su is currently 755, or -rwxr-xr-x, and Titanium is telling me this is the su it's trying to use.
Download a busybox installer from Play Store and use it to update/install your busybox in /system/xbin, then reboot. This may fix the root issue.
Also, trying to update binary with Superuser fails when it tries gain root.

Maybe you're looking at it all wrong. There's something that you did wrong or the download was a bad one. Just re-download the app and try again. But let the app do it's thing and once you have root install superSU (I like that one because you can make it a system app with one touch).

What's most interesting is that everything I read says that after running LGPwn and doing the restore, the phone should restart on it's own. When it does finish the restore, all I get is this screen that expects me to restart the phone myself:

Hello The most likely fix for your problem runs in a sequence/a set of rules so you would have to follow them very carefully.
1. Go to settings and remove your Google account.
2.Reboot phone.
3.Add account back in.
4.Try your Play Store now.
Tell me if this helped you or not, if it did, please click the "Thanks" button below this post, thank you for consulting the forums, and have a nice day.

Okay, then you might have to change the Play Store app. To do that, download "Root Explorer" from the market. And then download THIS. Then navigate to the "system/apps/" file using Root Explorer. Delete the Play Store app and replace it with the one you just downloaded. Reboot, it should work fine now. But if it still doesn't work, you might need to reconsider another rom.

Well the best thing to do currently is actually get another rom, there might be an error to the coding of the rom you used. Just make sure while installing a rom, you remember to do factory reset,wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache. And you should be fine.

It may have problem because of wrong file permissions.Give the command chmod 644 /system/app/{Playstore filename.apk} in terminal.
For example:
chmod 644 /system/app/PhoneSky.apk
chmod 644 /system/app/Vending.apk
chmod 644 /system/app/com.android.vending.apk
or change it from an explorer like root explorer setting the permissions like that:

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

**You have to make system partition rewritable in order to do this**
**If you just change the file permissions it will be better to wipe cache and dalvik-cache**
You could also download a cracked version of playstore and you see if it works better.(It has option to restore to original version if you like):
GooglePlay.Installer-4.3.11-OriginalIcon.zip

Have kindle fire HDX 7 running 4.5.2 rooted with gapps installed everything been working great for about a month now tried to use play store this morning and it won't work just get a white screen with spinning cirlce and if I slide from the left it just says redeem settings help and about. Tried clearing app data and reinstall did not help any ideas????
Just posted this on the Fire Phone forum, but it applies to all Fire products:
This is an Android issue not a Fire [Device] issue. See this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-phone/general/google-play-services-crashing-t3084355 Further tinkering with your Fire [Device] will not fix it. If you go to the google play services page of the play store, you'll see that the app is awash in 1 star reviews from people with lots of different [devices]. Google forced an update, and it broke stuff.

Reverting to Play Services 6.7.76 (1745988-036) fixes the issue temporarily until another update arrives.
But for G+ to work, you will also need to downgrade them as well.

Yeah, it's a very temporary fix. I tried doing that on my Fire Phone, and Google just pushed the update again which re-broke everything. Also, if you reboot your device it seems to push the update as well. I know that trying to use Google Hangouts will automatically bring on the update, because it can't be used without it anymore.
The same happened to me today with my HDX 8.9 3rd Gen. No updates our installs possible with Google play, all I get is a spinning white circle. First I thought this was an effect of the xposed/hdxposed framework. So I uninstalled it - with no effect. Play store bug persists.

Yeah, I tried the basic (no root necessary) method of using an earlier version and trying to stop it from auto-updating already. It was extremely temporary, as in 5 minutes worth of temporary. Some of the other suggestions appear to involve having root access which I don't have. So, that's a no go.
For me, it doesn't really matter so much, because I have almost no vested interest in getting Gapps running on my phone. There's nothing that I need from the Google Play Store, and I refuse to tip toe around my own phone just to keep it on there. I had just installed it because it was possible to do it. When it started going wonky, my tinkering brain had to at least try to see if it could be fixed. I'm personally done playing with it now. I'm just going to wait for Google to fix their own mess. I may try re-installing down the road once they've gotten their act together.

Odd, I don't know what it did differently, aside from reverting via Titanium, but that's all I have done & mine has stuck since that day. In fact, after doing that, I reverted the updated apps that require the newer GPSvs & everything is working again just fine. I haven't been auto-updated once since then.
At any rate, has anyone pulled a logcat during the crashes & refresh failures to see whats going on? Maybe something that an Xposed module could easily fix.
logcat of failure

Reverting via Titanium applies its rooted app freeze I believe? Thanks for mentioning either way as I'm going to need to do that.
This is what I did to prevent the defective update
I seem to have solved the issue on my Rooted HDX by doing the following:
Uninstall Play Services
Install Play Services 7.0.99
Load Terminal Emulator
Issue these commands:
$ su
# cd /data/app
# type > com.google.android.gms-2.apk
# chattr +i com.google.android.gms-2.apk
Now, the older play services 7.0.99 is active as com.google.android.gms-1.apk. Every time Google tries to install an upgraded one as com.google.android.gms-2.apk it fails, because it's an immutable file. No more updates, even after a reboot. I used ES File Explorer to observe /data/app to see that Google does still download the .tmp file with the new gms, but then it can't rename it.
Good luck!!!
EDIT: I'm running Play Store v5.3.6 on my HDX. Download GMS 7.0.99 HERE.

Search for Busybox in Play Store, install that, then open it and hit Install. Now the CHATTR command should work.

Thx Cevyn, the commands worked but I got a parsing error when trying to install the Play Services apk. I must have a different HDX version than you do and I was able to find a version of the apk that installedl. But thanks for this fix none the less!
Followed this guide and it worked great. No command window, but it's doing the same thing really.
http://topusefulsolutions.com/409593/google-play-services-7-3-28-keeps-stopping
My HDX Play Services has not successfully updated since I ran these commands.
I had tried the suggestion on http://topusefulsolutions.com and my Play Services still updated, leading me to work out another way to prevent it and start this thread.
It may be a good idea to post a reversal guide to this to help out people who eventually want the updates back when and if google ever corrects this issue.
Hey, this is a guide to ROOT and install TWRP recovery on your N750/N7505 running 5.1.1
BRICKING, GETTING STUCK OR ANY CAUSE OF DAMAGE IS AT YOUR RISK! DO NOT BLAME ME!
FOLLOW MY STEPS PROPERLY TO AVOID SUCH RISK.
Files required for process:-
1. TWRP recovery - http://d-h.st/xoNw
2. BOOT IMG file(for n750) - http://d-h.st/1uEK
3. BOOT IMG file(for n7505) - http://d-h.st/WrIk
4. supersu(latest) - http://d-h.st/hhaR
5. ODIN (latest) - http://dl.sammobile.com/Odin3_v3.10.7.zip
DOWNLOAD THE BOOT IMG FILE ACCORDING TO YOUR DEVICE.
!!NOTE - copy boot img and supersu files to your external card.
STEP 1:- ODIN
1) open odin check if the mobile is connected and select file in AP/PDA
2) after file is add click start and wait till it is finished.
!!NOTE - untick auto reboot option in odin, and after flash process is complete you have to reboot manually, so boot your mobile directly into recovery mode(by pressing volumeup+home+power buttons), if u dont reboot into recovery the first time after flashing you will not get TWRP installed.
STEP 2:- RECOVERY
1) open recovery , click install and click on images at bottom right , now browse for the file boot img (which you had copied to your external card)
2) now select boot img file , then select boot and flash the file.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3) now click the zips button on bottom right(on top it will tell you select zip to install) and goto the supersu file placed in external card and flash it.
!!NOTE - install supersu from playstore before this process. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu&hl=en)
4) now wipe dalvik cache and reboot system.
when it reboots wait for 5-8 min as it is rebooting first time , when the mobile starts install root checker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck&hl=en) and verify root.
Congratulations you have rooted your mobile!
thank you
