I was wondering if there was any Jelly Bean ROM that supports Ad-Hoc networks since i rely a lot on my cellphone's internet. I've tried some ROM's and all of them shows the network but can't connect to it. I'm really tired of the stock ROM. Thanks in advance.
WPA supplicant maybe?
Have you tried the WPA supplicant hack from the ICS forums? I haven't had to connect to an adhoc network since i have changed to JB on my prime but the trick might still work, and it is pretty easy to try.
Thanks

I have tried with the ones on the stock ROM, but i wasn't lucky, i remember trying on ICS ROM's with no luck either. I'm kinda noob round her, could you point me in the right direction about the wpa suplicant hack for ICS, i could give it a try. Thanks in advance.
P.D: Sorry for my bad english.
Okay here you go....
First off I was kind of assuming you have a rooted tablet, since you were asking about custom roms....if not this won't help you at all. Second of all you will probably need to purchase Root Explorer, or another good file manager that lets you mount your memory cards R/O---R/W. If you meet all of these criteria go to this forum page and follow the instructions, it worked for me on ICS, hopefully the wpa supplicant file is still in the system folder on JB. I havent checked yet because my new phone is an SGS3 and the hotspot isnt ad-hoc. Good luck! Here is the link....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438746

I just checked on my galaxy and my prime and wpa_supplicant is still in system/bin. Hopefully changing it to the modified file fixes your issues! If not you can just delete the wpa_supplicant2 file you added and rename your wpa_supplicant.bak file back to wpa_supplicant and you should be back to square one. Hope this helps.
Thanks

Thanks for posting the link, yes i have a rooted, unlocked Prime, i hope this works. I'll try it as soon as i get home.
Hmmm....maybe not....
Upon further investigation the required file doesn't appear to be in system/bin anymore. Wpa_supplicant is there, but not wpa_supplicant2 which is the actual file you need to replace. Sorry, it has been quite awhile since I performed these steps...however I am running Androwook's Hairy Bean 1.2 so my system/bin may be different than yours...
---------- Post added at 09:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:44 PM ----------
I have poked around the forums for you and apparantly replacing the wpa_supplicant file does nothing on jellybean....you are probably going to have to wait until a workaround is found. What kind of phone are you using to create an ad-hoc hotspot?
Yep . . .

Hi, for a long time I wanted to install a no-Sense ROM. Therefore yesterday I successfully installed [AOSP 2.1] VanillaEclair 6.0 "Oldschool with some new paint". But not everything is working like I am used to from an original Android 2.1 ROM (of course, therefore it is a custom ROM )
I would like to ask a couple of questions:
1. How do I turn of Data Traffic
(not really necessary cause I have unlimited access but would like to know)
2. How can I start internet sharing with my notebook via USB?
(Am used that it goes automatically after I plugged a cable in and chose Internet sharing option. A connection icon appeared and I was able to start browsing. But in this ROM there is a possibility to tick Internet Tethering in the Settings but no connection appears to be on-going. I tried AndroidTethering app but with no success.)
Thank you for your help. Would be much appreciated.
I already sorted out the first issue with turning on/off a data connection with a widgetsoid widget. But help with second issue would be much appreciated.
Just checked the ROM's thread and it says there may be USB mounting problems with LVX. Try flashing FlyKernel13 and see if that fixes your tethering problems
My best friend is the creator of that rom. Well like he says it the breaker and the fixer. I got no idea if native USB tethering on it works I am now running 6.1 and I will test it for ya
---------- Post added at 11:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:02 PM ----------
Ok it isnt... Think this is a fault cuss it is using the not native kernel that came with VE4. But that is just an idea I was planning to try something out later anyways so But that will come when I am in the mood to do so.
VE5. gonna try and see what works in there and see what I can build from that.

No, tethering won't work with lx without tweaking something in the system on ve. It should work with fly

Hi, thanks for your effort. I originally wanted to place this question into a ROM thread in the Development section, but I wasn't allowed to place a comment due to my juniorship
Back to the topic: Now I moved back to the VillainRom13 cause I needed tethering. I am planning to try out 6.1 when I have more time (maybe tonight) and will see if it works by itself (what I doubt). Please let me know if the tethering thing works for you and if yes, try to explain what is necessary to do to get it workings. Thanks in advance.

Hi guys
My friend recently asked me to install android on his device and its working fine however whenever he reboots or switches os the files disappear. Anyone know a fix for this?
Any help appreciated
On a different note I still don't understand how I can access my webos files from android even though it was listed as a feature of this build. A simple file manager doesn't seem to work

Hi,
I'm a SGS2 user in Sri Lanka. Since I purchased the phone from Singapore, The phone came with a Singapore 2.3.3 Gingerbread ROM which I've been using without issues here in Sri Lanka.
I recently flashed the Singapore DXLP9 stock ICS rom to my SGS2. Everything went well but now, the phone seems to take longer to get a GPS lock. On gingerbread, it used to acquire a lock within seconds but now it sometimes takes more than 2-3 minutes.
I could not find people reporting a GPS issue with DXLP9 ROM so I'm assuming this is something wrong on my end and not an issue with the ROM itself.
I read on another forum that each ROM comes with default GPS satellite coordinates optimal to target region of that ROM. Could this be the issue I am facing? I am using a Singapore ROM in Sri Lanka.
( i can easily flash the stock ROM for Sri Lanka but the latest stock ROM for this region is still XWLP7 - flashing this would be s ort of a downgrade from LP9 and I'm not too keen on doing that).
Anyway I'm not even sure if there is such a thing as "default GPS satellite coordinates" stored in the ROM. Have any of you guys run into a similar issue or know more information about this? Thanks in advance.
The AGPS data is downloaded according to the ntp servers set in the file system/etc/gps.conf which is a text file.
In theory, the server should be the same for your region and SG. Which is server 0.asia.pool.ntp.org through 3.asia.pool.ntp.org.
Might be worth checking you don't have the north-america or europe servers instead.
---------- Post added at 07:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:51 PM ----------
The .conf file should look like this:
NTP_SERVER=asia.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276
in your case
---------- Post added at 08:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:54 PM ----------
If you have a rooted ROM, you can open the file and edit it using one of the RW mountable file explorers. Just ensure you set the permissions to RW- R-- R-- afterwards and unmount the file explorer and reboot.
---------- Post added at 08:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:02 PM ----------
I also suggest you download GPS status from G Play and use it to force AGPS to download with your new settings - Maps etc. will only download once a day, sometimes.

Thanks for the info. My phone is not rooted. Must I have root access to check the above file or is there any way other than rooting to read that info?
yep you need to have root access..besidies what firmware you use doesnt effect what coordinates you gonna get..its always gonna tell you where you are...but yeah connection time on occasions will increase..or perhaps wont even connect..to solve that..you need a simple app known as faster fix...on google play store..but that app also requires root access..!
Hi, I have struggled for several hours now and really could use some help please.
I have a Viewpad 10e which is not an officially supported device with Google. I have installed the only custom rom out there from Sidenk - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320592&page=41
There is no contact/people icon on there. I used to have this working with the market apk on the stock ICS rom last year but due to a recent upgrade from Viewsonic that stuffed my system so I had to reinstall. I cannot for the life of me think how I did it but I've downloaded loads of different packages relating to googlecontactssyncadapter.apk, contacts.apk and contactsprovider.apk. Some of them install but do nothing, some of them say the package cannot be parsed, some say there's a conflicting signature.
At this stage I have no idea what to do, I've downloaded loads of files, spent hours searching on google, read lots of different forums too. This device is not well supported and I have no idea where I'm going wrong so any help is very much appreciated.
I take it by no replies I've asked an awkward question
Can anyone point me in the right direction of where I should be looking if people cannot help here please?
No takers at all?
probably no oone knows the answer because the device isnt officially supported

Thanks but that's not the issue I'm having. The stock rom doesn't have Google contacts/people on it and never has. The custom rom never has. When I had the original gingerbread rom I managed to put on Google marketplace and contacts app on it. Later when ICS came out I managed to do it again.
Viewpad then released an auto update that kept nagging until I hit install. Then that wouldn't let me root so I went back to the custom rom Sidenk developed (he states set device as Asus Eeepad in his post to get more compatible apps on play). I thought all I had to do was update this with contacts.apk and googlecontactssyncadapter.apk but every version I have tried to install has come up 'application not installed' or unable to parse.
I know this device is capable of having contacts as I've done it before but I'm blown if I know how to now?
This has been driving my noodle potty for days now and I'd love some advice on what's likely to be going wrong :laugh:
Well I'm stumped. Been reading up on this area for days now and cannot get anywhere. Can no-one help at all?
So ive been looking for a updated root for the sm-g530p. I cant seem to find anything other than a root that has a really old kernel.
If anyone knows anything comment below, thanks
I don't know if this helps or if your issue has been solved already, but I have a kernel called TrapKernel. Just look it up, download it on your computer, then flash through Odin. It is the best I know of. Also, if your issue is battery life, download "Root Booster" and buy the premium version of Battery Boost. It is well worth the cost

I ended up unrooting my phone because I don't have time to fix it if anything is to go wrong. I am starting my first job and also college soon..
But when I get on top of things I will come back on here. Maybe they'll have an OFFICIAL TWRP available for SM-G530P. Sorry to leave you hanging; I meant to comment again

Could i get a link? Sorry sorta new to this.
Also do I use Odin?
Will i be able to make calls and texts on my current carrier.
I soon as i know i will root.
****RESEARCH FOR YOURSELF LIKE WE ALL HAD TO**** UNTIL YOU KNOW HOW TO INSTALL AND USE ADB ON YOUR PC AND KNOW BASIC ADB COMMANDS, ESPECIALLY REBOOT COMMANDS, DO NOT TRY ROOTING AT ALL.
After rooting, research TWRP and install it for your device- it is available on the twrp website and linked on other forums in XDA. THEN read about how to make NANDROID backups in TWRP. Also buy the pro versions of titanium backup pro, root booster (in-app purchases for getti g the full version),and es file explorer pro from the Play Store. Trust me, you will thank me later a lot. And even without root Nova Launcher Prime is the bomb (so is es file explorer pro)
I have a lot on my mind and schedule rn and don't have time to teach people (no offense)
You don't even need to ask unless you have a technical issue on XDA threads anyway as there are TONS of forums explaining everything step by step for android and rooting. Just make sure to never use anything from XDA unless it's labeled for your exact device model, even if it's only like one letter off (such as SM-G530H). ONLY SM-G530P OR YOU WILL REGRET IT; I'M SPEAKING OUT OF EXPERIENCE
