Uhhhh why? Its specifically for tablets because you have 2-3 times the screen space.
Not being negative just asking why you would want that app on a small screen?
- HTC Amaze - Eclipze's Speed Rom 7.5 - Fauxy Edition

I have been posting stuff on Cornerstone for a year now and no one has taken any interest in it. It is also for tablets not phones. One of the greatest concepts for android and no dev to my knowledge has touched it.

Well i have a couple of floating apps on my amaze like floating browser and floating video player and you would be surprised how much screen you need for multiple apps my point was trying to achieve true multitasking like some floating apps but they are a bit buggy but eh guess that time will come soon not only tablets will have muti tasking but phones will as well android has already taken small steps to achieve this goal with the floating apps found in market thought development could give it a shove. Tablets are very similar to phones with the exception of their screen sizes

What is really known about ice cream sandwich?(besides it should be yummy)

I've seen threads about the prime where the question is "what do we know for SURE" and an obvious answer is nothing really. What about ics? Google searching really doesn't help since it is over posted with no concrete answers I can find.
So what are the main differences besides it being made tobwork on tablets or phones? I have a few answers that sound believable, but I would like to see some sources, not just rumors.
Oh, and trolls aren't needed, this should be a semi-serious topic, not just another wasted spot on the internet..

One thing we've learned is it eliminates capacitive buttons. That's why the Prime's screen is so large. I think it does bridge the gap between tabs and phones. Downside is it may make it bad for updating current phones.

Blue Themed
Camera has built in panorama mode
Will launch with Google Shopper and NFC Enabled devices will be able to utilize those features
Gmail is all rethemed
Will be available for the Nexus S Nexus Prime gets it first (expected) then other devices will follow after
Not too many changes, just UI things, don't think requirements are set too high for year old devices to run it
The little icon in the bottom right, looks like a tray with multiple apps in it
Google search bar embedded on very top like Honeycomb Apps/Widgets launcher a lot like Honeycomb
This release is still very early, notice the theming of the power tray

But it´s nearly sure that it will have ICS ;D
I've heard the platform called "a marriage between TI and Android," and "a marriage of Gingerbread and Honeycomb." Also, "Honeycomb for phones."
Ice Cream Sandwich is a somewhat faraway version of Android that will look much more like the sexy Honeycomb we phone users have seen from afar (imagine that Android Marketplace look brought to other stock apps), and it might just have the Honeycomb bottom bar too. (Although personally, I'd rather it NOT be there if/when the phone was switched to landscape mode)...

Virtuous support for the HTC Flyer

Today the Virtuous team (if you're unfamilar they did Virtuous Unity, Virtuous Affinity, some ICS projects, some other projects for DZ/G2, DHD, Inc S, Desire S, Inc 2, mytouch 4g, and some other devices) announced that they were interested in doing Virtuous Flyer. I personally really like their work, and I would welcome it. I just made this thread to see if there is any other support for this besides the Virtuous Team and I.
You can read the original post by them here: http://www.virtuousrom.com/2012/01/happy-new-year.html
And view some of their work:

The Virtues of Virtuous
I've used their ROMs on Desire Z and Inspire and they do great work. They're some of the best sense based roms for sure.
My main question is what do they think they could do? Other than bringing ICS what's going to make this ROM the one to have?

Well I can't speak for the Virtuous Team, but as you know they are very talented in what they do. Judging from their opening posts of other Virtuous Quattro threads it seems like they are very knowledgeable with kernels which offer a edge here and they do "Heavily optimized for fluid performance and usability.". What mainly happens according some very talented developers is that most kernels and roms just have optimization this, and kernel optimization that, but some developers have no idea how and why it works and degrade the quality of the rom. The Virtuous Team has a clear understanding what those tweaks do, and what will make the rom "better"(for my lack of a better word due to my knowledge of why their roms are such great quality). Honestly I think it would just be great to have ICS on the Flyer with such a great developer team working on it. I think of it really as nothing to loose anyways because if you don't like it you can always switch back.
I would be very interested in this project

Interested once this hits beta!
If they build it they will come.
While I would certainly be interested in this as a trailblazer ICS ROM, I would hope they would have an ultimate goal of producing a full Sense ICS ROM that retains the stylus functionality in the long run. Otherwise for many of us, this would only be a novelty.
I know that the Virtuous team does do other Sense ROMs. I understand that for now, doing vanilla ICS is much easier, but once HTC publishes ICS with Sense, the could be used as a base for incorporation. Still, I would embrace the effort because much is learned from any good ROM development.
I am intrigued by the use of the CM9 ICS custom launcher "Trebuchet" due to these enhanced features:
Custom number of Homescreens
Enable/Disable Persistent Search Bar
Separated Apps/Widgets in Drawer
Resize Any Widget
Show and Fade Scrolling Indicator in Homescreen and Drawer
Enable/Disable Auto-Rotate
Drawer Apps Sorting (Title, Install Date)

I would not say "heck with supporting the flyer", but I understand where you are coming from. It seems that Flyer to View is really not that hard to do, and it should be no problem. Again I do not speak for the Virtuous Team, and again it does not seem like it would be a big problem.
This would be great! ICS has pen support built in, right? I wonder how this might translate to the Flyer.
This would be great! Not complaining, but perhaps after maybe they could keep sense so we can use the pen. +1
Hopefully with the large increase of flyer users lately due to all the sales and such there will be more interest in this
That's pretty cool, I used various versions of virtuous before (Unity, Affinity, Sense, G-lite). So they'd likely bring this to sense 3.5 on here, right?
Hopefully they will include HTC View / Express in the update. It doesn't seem too hard as we already have a port of one of the flyer roms in the dev section.

Understood. Making this sound that this is only for the Flyer sounds a bit one sided on my part. My apologies, will edit the OP.
it would be awsome to see an ics rom for the flyer. and not hard to bring the ril to bring the view right behind it.
In but would love to see the pen still work as well. The trickiest thing it seems for ics development is a functional camera.

htc sense maybe coming to prime

HTC seems to have launched a tegra3 device (indavur (misspelled on purpose)), and since we are many that waited for htc to make their tegra move, so we could get their "frontend", and now its finally happening.
a leak has seen the www some days ago, and it might be coming to a device near you.
anyways they say its 720p, so im assuming 1366x720 and not 1280x800 like we got, so graphics will probably need resizing but i think solutions exists for that.
anyways, lets hope it appears! (i am personally happy with htc sense, so im eager to get it and already got a flyer here as well)
Thanks, Dexter! Loved your work! Looking forward to seeing your magic on the Prime!
I have an HTC Sensation and I do everything I can to strip as much HTC Sense as I can from it.
Can't wait for CM9 for it.
i would love sense on the prime!

Phone Sense on tablets doesn't make any sense.
Even if someone ports it (not too much of a problem actually) it won't be usable.
The Sense UI doesn't scale well and is fitted to one specific resolution and screen size.
Scaling it up just looks awkward.
People shouldn't get their hopes up, it won't be the thing you expect.
Maybe we can port Tablet Sense from the HTC Vertex (aka. HTC Quattro), but that's still far away.
They actually are announcing a Teg3 tablet (the Vertex, formerly Quattro) on 2/27 at an HTC press conference at MWC. It's supposed to be available in March. That ROM would need a lot less tinkering than one from a phone.
Wow awesome. I love sense. As far as the phone goes, it's probably my next phone if it comes out on Sprint. I'm a tegra3 believer now since my Prime.

Nope, you missunderstood something there. There won't be an option to disable Sense/TouchWiz etc.
OEMs are only forced to include the stock themes, so 3rd party apps can use those themes and look the same on every rom
This has nothing to do with customizations like the Sense UI.
Awhh that's lame they should have to have that option!

you should get HTC Endeavor then, i might just in 6 months time when its launched in europe.
anyways the rom is tegra3 based , and from my experience with previous tegra roms , the tegra platform offers alot of options for porting between devices just like between the different htc platforms.
m_deejay has alot of experience from the htc platform, and im sure the virtouus team might just jump back on the tegra wagon soon.
about this build,
since we got no custom kernel, my options for changing scripts (init.rc) is limited and i will simply try this out on a tegra2 device first.
the framework require a different bootclasspath which i think a hijack script is needed for to fix it, if no custom kernel can be installed?
little OT,
why are blob's available on transformer(1), but not on "prime"? is it the sbk key that blocks kernel compiles?
Sounds like bloatware to me then if it don't run fast or smooth or good, people will try to blame tegra3 for it....they can keep it. Its a good look for phones and some of their Widgets look cool. If anything ill take the Widgets. They can keep the bloat UI.
Ok guys first let me say that swearing has no place on the forum. Second it is well known that Sense needs to have the HTC framework files so it only runs on HTC devices. This is why it is not ported to alot of other devices other then HTC devices.

What if?

What if we had ICS? What would you appreciate most?
I would love to see sense 4.x on this thing. Resizable sense widgets, updated smooth sense UI, google play apps able to be installed (chrome and other ics apps currently arent)
What would you enjoy most?
*sigh*
where to start..
- proper dual core support
- more apps (chrome, for instants)
- better UI
May not be in ICS, but with 4.2 comes multi-user support!
I'd love to see it get a stock android holo theme. The sense widgets that I needed because they weren't in stock are now included in basic JB anyway, and I prefer the aesthetics. The sense apps look clunky now when compared to stock apps liker contracts and calendar on my nexus 4 & 7. I used top use the notes app, but it became far too buggy.
It would be excellent if the pen was still supported. That's the reason I got the jetstream in the first place!
The one alteration if like to see would be to move the software buttons to the left of the bar, as they currently are on sense.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Lets see
1. Vanilla Android
2. Host of multiple apps that work on only ICS+ like Chrome, Chameleon, Google Calender
3. Pen support would be a must for me to shift base
4. Voice calls if possible but not a priority
5. Sense UI would be a welcome addition if possible but nor a priority - and would love to see Sense/Sense-less tastes of ICS/JB out there.
Have used 4.2.1 on Xoom and honestly, the Tablet Vanilla Android 4.2.1 and CM 10.1/AOPK is shockingly amazing. Hoping that we get a taste of that on our device as well.
I've been an avid lover of HTC Sense since my original HTC Evo 4G. I even went on to buy the HTC Jetstream and the HTC Evo 4G LTE because they all ran sense, but I can honestly say that I cannot wait for sense to be stripped from this tablet. I've used many other tablets, like the Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Motorola Xoom, and the Nexus 10 which are so much smoother and the lag on this tablet is just downright annoying now. This is actually very sad since the hardware for this tablet is amazing, and I have to attribute this lag to HTC's very poor implementation of sense over another very poor OS, Honeycomb 3.1. I can't wait for our talented devs to get CM10/10.1 up and running on this, because then this tablet will be simply amazing
pen support is critical for me, and as kailash i won't change bases as long as its not around. i know showp1984 already got a pen, and i specifically told him the pen support is something the community here needs.
this tablet is probably the most wasted pile of hardware around..honeycomb is a very poor android version. hopefully the combined forces of the developers suddenly around will get them to help us.
+1 for pen support
I bought this tablet specifically for the pen as I use it a lot connected to HDTV as a whiteboard to help with my kids education and I can't shift without pen support. Before throwing $150 at dev on this tablet I had seriously contemplated giving it up for a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 but am now hopeful we can get the pure Android experience (without Sense bloat) that this hardware deserves.
Go devs, we're rooting for ya!

In regard to the pen, while browsing on the HTC Flyer Section, found that Dexter_nlb has got the pen to work pretty decently for the Flyer at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795342. Assuming that the same/similar hardware has gone into building the Jetstream, I am guessing that the similar process/code would be able to get us working pen on Jetstream JB (once and when we do get it). However, not knowing much about coding, I assume that it would be a dev-to dev decision about using the work done by Dexter_nlb. In any case, here is to hoping on getting a fully working JB on our Jetstream real soon.
Pen support is a deal breaker for me as well, it was the main reason I purchased the Jetstream after all.
Project butter would be fantastic, but I don't see pen support in JB ever happening. Are there any more optimizations and improvements that could be made to the honeycomb roms we have?
both the flyer and the lenovo tablet got their pen running on ICS..can't imagine it'll be too hard getting it to run with JB. and honestly, even "just" ics would be so much better.
we've gone so far..i won't lose hope now.

PA Windowed Multitasking

This might just be the feature that pulls me away from AOKP for good. Windowed Multitasking is the one feature that I feel is crippling Android(and iOS for that matter) from rising as a serious competitor to traditional OSes(Windows, OS X, Ubuntu etc.). Anyone else excited for this?

Yup, very much looking forward to this. If they pull it off, I'll be a PA man from here on out! From watching the video, their implementation looks much nicer than most too.
It will depend somewhat on what Google are up to though, I'd be amazed if Android 5 doesn't have some form of multi-window mode and should be out in 3-4 weeks...

And then 1-2 months of bugfixing in ROMs so it actually works ok
I asked about multitasking on PA thread for N10, and the answer wasn't far from what I think it might be the truth, seeing how is it going with the phones and tablets running PA ROM.
"Still far from done, and it's really questionable how exactly it will function on a tablet, seeing how the PA team is focused on phone development mostly. "
Interesting - I hope we get something like this. Another kick-ass developer timduru ported Cornerstone to EOS for the Asus Transformer TF101. It worked quite well. It certainly didn't make the TF101 any faster, but it was definitely something that I think improved the user experience on the tablet. I was able to watch video in one window and surf the net in another.
For me, this was the most anticipated feature since I got my first Android tablet (which would be this one... :silly: ). Right now, I'm using the floating browser as a workaround, since the functionality of some apps can also be found on the web. - Except, of course, in offline situations.
I'm eagerly awaiting this, and I know that team PA can pull it off!
Pa just released a new video on Google +... it makes way more sense to me now... this will be rad with pie... Not sure how useful on the nexus 10 but awesome on my galaxy nexus... Can't wait

For phones I can see this feature being extremely innovative and useful but for the Nexus 10 it would make more sense to implement something similar to cornerstone or what Samsung has done. Mostly due to the fact that tablets have such large real estate that can be utilized with multiple windows up.
The idea is great for phones but I, personally, would prefer something similar to what I mentioned. However, something is better than nothing.

I would prefer actual windowed multitasking on the nexus 10, it makes sense on tablets as you have all that space and resolution that gets wasted on stretching out a single app
