Hi,
I'm not sure this is the place but i'll go ahead and ask.
I'm running the resurrection remix and would like to use dual boot with stock, I found allot of threads about dual boot but I'm not sure cause I want the stock rom to sync with Kies is it possible? Since I'm replacing the kernel?
Thanx.
Erez.

Yeah. It will work. have a look at those guides, I'm sure you will find them helpful
As I understand I will run the stock with siyah kernel (or it won't recognize the 2nd boot), will it connect to the kies software?

Why are you reluctant to try and see for yourself? All the info you requested has already been provided
I don't see any reason why kies should not see it, although that's dependent on the Rom itself.

hey,
FYI i have read both of them and a few more which all say the same more or less,
Did not find anything about flashing 2nd boot as stock, i agree that one should search and try finding the answer alone.
But sometimes ppl ask after trying to find it alone, and instead of educating me if u know the answer why won't you just write it?
some ppl like being spoonfed...
thanx anyway i now on the right way!

1. which root method did you use? Please provide links
2. To have a permanent CWM recovery, just flash a custom GT I9100 kernel

Then just flash a custom kernel, Siyah, Dorimanx or Speedmod via the temporary CWM recovery
These kernels have permanent CWM recovery
After flashing, reboot your phone back to recovery
Perform a ROM backup in CWM recovery

Just flash Siyah kernel 4.1.2 (download the zip format) via the temporary CWM recovery. It will give a permanent CWM recovery, and it's 100% compatible with your phone (GT I9100M).

1. You will not lose anything if you flash kernel. Flashing kernel will never delete data. Everything remains intact.
2. You will receive alerts when updates are available etc. And you can also flash them even before it becomes available for your region.
If you are still skeptical about flashing the custom kernel, and only want clockwork mod recovery, then, don't flash anything, you will be fine with a temporary CWM recovery which you already have

So, another newbie question: what is the point of flashing *JUST* the kernel? Is it just to get the permanent CWM and do backup/restore of my full un-rooted ROM?
I realize that once I have the new kernel I can flash any ROM I want (as long as it's compatible), but if that's all I wanted to do, I can just install a temporary CWM right?
Finally, if I install the siyah 4.1.4 (latest), will anything be broken (ie. bluetooth, camera, etc)? If so, why would I do this?

1. Custom Kernel
- to have a CWM CWM recovery.
- better backup and restore process
- More customizable options
- bugs and battery hog fixes, thus better battery life.
- optimized performance
- flashing other Roms with breeze
If you ever wish to restore your original unrooted firmware, it's better to flash it via Odin.
2.
- If you flash Siyah kernel nothing will be broken.
- If you are on ICS 4.0.3 firmware, Siyah 3.5.2, if you are on 4.0.4, then flash Siyah 4.x.x
PS: the only way to show appreciation after being helped is by Clicking on the THANKS button.

I was saying, Siyah 3.x.x works much better than Siyah 4.x.x on ICS 4.0.3.
You can still flash 4.x.x to see for yourself, but I will advise you to have a copy of 3.5.2 incase it doesn't work that well for you.

Just out of curiosity... Why do you think Rootbox is the best? I for one am waiting until the AOKP team has added more options and optimization to their JB roms. Until they have done that, I will stay with RR 2.6.1 (ICS). In the meantime I will keep trying their JB roms in my dualboot setting.

There is nothing like best ROM. Everybody will have their own best ROM.
The issue about best ROM is always very subjective.
All I know is, there are good ROMs out there.

I'm not saying these roms are not stable. I said that I'd prefer a rom with more optimizations and functionality. JB is stil under heavy development. I will provide you the links, but I suggest you'd put a little more effort in searching throughout XDA.
I'm on Resurrection Remix 2.6.1 (Android 4.0.4)
and
Resurrection Remix 3.0.6 (Android 4.1.1 if I'm not mistaken).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854
You'll have to search that thread for the download links.
If you want the most stable and bugfree experience, then flash a ICS based Rom. If you want to experiment, then you can flash a JB Rom, which you can also use as a daily driver by now (at least the latest CM 10 nightlies)
If you want to have the most customizations then Flash an AOKP based Rom like the Resurrection Remix 2.6.1 Rom which is ICS based. Since 3.0 it`s JB based however.
If you just want the vanilla Android experience without too much settings then you can of course try the famous Cyanogenmod 9 Rom, which is also great.
It took me quite a while to figure out what`s the best Rom for me. I settled for Resurrection Remix 2.6.1
In the end it`s up to you and what you like, that`s why there is no such thing as "the best Rom"

Gday,
Basically I've been reading through countless threads throughout the site involving flashing my Samsung Galaxy S2, I've came up with a very rough idea on how I'm going to do this and I am very sure I've got it under control but I've made this thread just to make sure I'm not going to ''brick'' me phone and and because I'm a noob.........
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2
Model Number: GT-19100T
Baseband Version: 19100TDULP4
Kernel Version: 3.0.15-19100TDULPB-CL710191
Build Number: IML7.DULPB
I do live in Australia and my Galaxy S2 was locked to the Carrier VODAPHONE but its been unlocked and now uses a TELSTRA sim....
Now my question I believe my phone is all stock and Ive chose the custom firmware I'm interested in using
[ROM][JB:CM10:HYBRD] PARANOIDANDROID [2.13,True HybridMode, Size&UI on PerAppBasis]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619582
So for me to be able instal this firmware i need to root my phone ? to put a custom kernel on it?
Ive searched through the forums and haven't really worked out what kernel I need?
Is this what i need to use to install the firmware I chose ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399&page=617
Hhahaha
I know how to go bout instal the firmware its just the making the phone to let me is the problem????
Any help would be great!!!
And suggestions, i did think that maybe my model could not instal that firmware?
READ READ READ! there is no shortcut... but this is what I did...
READ READ READ! there is no shortcut... but this is what I did...
went Voda 2.3.3 to Telstra ICS using Checkfus to get .tar/.md5. Got sick of that, rooted with CWM. Then went NeatRom which has Siyah kernel. Crap data speeds, so pulled out modem from Telstra ICS rom (modem.bin), put that in which fixed data speeds... chucked CRT-off mod on for the hell of it.
1. You need to root your device first.
2. Then flash a custom kernel
3. Backup your present ROM
4. Download ParanoidAndroid and Gapps

6. Flash ParanoidAndroid.
Done.

the things you should always care about when downloading and flashing are:
1. Your phone model NO. Is it compatible with my phone? This is a very important question. Stuffs meant for GT I9100 are compatible with your phone whereas stuffs meant for GT I9100G are not compatible.
2. Your Android version
3. The base of your firmware or custom ROM. Unmodified firmwares are based on Samsung. Stock based custom ROMs are also based on Samsung. CYANOGENMOD, AOKP Miui are based on AOSP
4. Your Kernel. Most custom kernels are dependent on your Android version or the base of your firmware or custom ROM

As Jokesy said, just make sure you flash a ROM made for the i9100(T,M,P) and NOT the i9100G. It will kill your phone.
Also, if you flash a 4.0.4 ROM, make sure it has a custom kernel such as Siyah kernel. This removes the MMC_CAP_ERASE brick bug that so many have been hit by. It's associated with stock 4.0.4 Samsung ROM's, it just kills your phone when you wipe data/factory reset in stock CWM. Just a note for future flashing.

Modems deal with network signal, mobile internet and GPRS. Rarely need to change them unless you experience poor reception on your phone. Here is a link to a thread with a whole load of modems if you wish to have a look: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950
Modems do not have to match your kernel version, modems will work on GB, ICS and JB. They don't have to match the firmware on your phone, just in case you were wondering. Any other questions, don't hesitate posting here and I'll do my best to answer them.

Just had a quick search and found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227762
The third or fourth post says you can use i9100 methods to root the i9100T. However, it will change the product code to i9100 (don't think this is a problem, just more of would it annoy you)?
You can use CF-Root which is very easy to use. Please dial *#1234# and post your results.
Nah doesn't worry me at all, is this.what your after

So what do you want? Why did you open this thread?
You can use temporary unroot feature in Extweaks, if you are using Siyah, dream or Dorimanx kernel, in order to use Skygo.

I just wanted advice so I dont install anything that can brick my phone.
I was sure that all phones with root couldn't work with skygo as I have tried it before on gingerbread.

1. Yes they will work for you.
2. Yes. download their .tar version and flash via Odin
3. After flashing the kernel, download extweaks from market. Use extweaks to temporarily unroot anytime you want to run Skygo.
Which kernal would you recommend?
