Thank you very much for your help putting very valuable !
I succeeded in doing the following:
1) downgrade my tablet to a rootable fw version
2) rooted with doomlord tool
Now I need to unlock my bootloader: I had requested the key a while ago, but never got around to using it.
I followed all the instructions and succeeded in connecting the tablet in fastboot mode to my pc (drivers installed fine and I receive a reply when issuing the trial command getvar version, meaning, I presume that the device is connected and able to receive commands and reply to them).
However when I issue the command in the instructions on http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions and replace the final "KEY" with the key provided by Sony via email I receive a reply "FAILED (remote: Command did not succeed)": what could I be doing wrong? I also copied and pasted the command in order to make sure that the syntax was correct and checked the code I input many times to make sure I did not miss or messed up something, but it all seems OK. I issued the command from within the same directory where the getvar command was issued, i.e. within Android SDk/Tools folder (the procedure on the website doesn't suggest to change folder, so I didn't!) , but no success at all!
Can anyone suggest some way out?
Thanks
Luca

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is bootloader unlocking allowed on your tablet ?
Some service providers have blocked bootloader unlocking.

I followed the procedure on the Sony website to check that and the answer is yes, it can be unlocked.
I tried some other tutorials and no results. It seems that it might be connected to the doomlord exploit (which I used to gain root access), but all the instructions on how to get around that have failed to allow me the unlocking!!!!

DC Unlocker
imei error seems happen a lot on KII versions ...

DC Unlocker guide >
In order to unlock your Honor device using the unofficial method, if for example you receive the '14 day' error from the Huwei site, complete the following steps:
On a Windows PC, download and install DC-unlocker from https://www.dc-unlocker.com/.
On your phone, enter Manufacturer Mode - open the dialler and enter *#*#2846579#*#*. In the app that then opens, select Project Menu -> Background settings -> USB ports settings -> Manufacturer Mode.
Download the Huawei driver pack from https://files.dc-unlocker.com/share....9D4A1EF09BA620.
Install the Huawei driver pack by extracting the file you just downloaded (using WinRAR or similar) and running 'DriverSetup'
After installing the driver pack, connect your phone to the PC. In Device Manager, after the automated driver install, you should have no 'Unknown Devices'.
Launch the previously downloaded DC-unlocker application.
From the drop down lists, select 'Huawei Phones' and 'Auto Detect Model'.
Press the magnifying glass icon - the app will then search for your phone.
You should see an image like the one below showing your phone is found. At this point, press the 'Buy Credits' option to set up your DC-Unlocker account and purchase the 4 credits required for code retrieval (this will cost €4). You can also do this directly from the DC-Unlocker website.
After your credit purchase is complete, click the 'Server' section and enter your new DC-unlocker login details. Press 'Check Login' to validate the details (if the server is busy, this may take multiple attempts).
Click the 'Unlocking' section, and click 'Read Bootloader Code'. Do NOT click 'Unlock'. Again, if the server is busy, this may take multiple attempts. The white area of the app will now display the bootloader code. Screen grab this just in case!
Open a command window on your PC, which needs to have 'adb' and 'fastboot' installed from the Android SDK.
Enable USB debugging by tapping the build number in Settings -> About 5 times, then going back and selecting the option from the Development menu.
Enable OEM unlock in the Development menu.
Connect your phone to the PC and approve the security prompt on the device screen.
In the command window on your PC / Mac, enter 'adb reboot bootloader' to enter fastboot mode'.
In the command window on your PC / Mac, enter 'fastboot oem unlock [insertnumberhere]', of course using the number provided by the DC-Unlocker process.
YOUR PHONE WILL WIPE ITSELF AT THIS POINT!
That's it! You're done!

Or just give Microsoft edge a try. never had problem of captcha using that.
Hi All,
at the beginning I'll write a brief what happened. I'm using Xiaomi MI 5. Last week phone just turn off and after this I was unable to turn it on - no response. I started with checking battery contacts and after pushing plugs device turn on, but unfortunately in bootloop. I started to search for any information how to repair, so at first I tried to wipe all data by recovery mode, but it not helped. At next step I flashed phone with new firmawe - I had to do it by testpoints method, because bootloader is blocked and I was unable to unlock this since device is broken (as I saw in tutorial it's needed to bind device with account by Android which wasn't work obviously). Device with new firmware started to work but not recognizing any SIM card - I've checked in options an there is no IMEI. I found tutorial how to repair IMEI and for now I have ready QCN file to upgrade device by QPST software, but there is a problem with entering a phone in diagnostic mode. I used a code "*#*#717717#*#*" but I have a problem with part listed below, because it's demanding super user account:
"adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/sde28
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/sdf3
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/sdf5"
I don't have a root and for now it isn't possible to root device, because there is still blocked bootloader. I tried to unlock device since Android is working again but because there is no IMEI I get errors during binding, so i suppose it's impossible to do without IMEI.
In QPST device is only visible when it's in EDL mode by testpoints method, but I can't upload QCN file bacause I get error: Phone isn't in diagnostic mode.
So what I need for now is to enter device into diagnostic mode somehow and that's why I decided to make a new topic, because at first I've searched many forums and threads but I was unable to find working solution. Please help me if you have any ideas. Thanks!
Resolved
Hi all,
I've manage this problem.
This is how I succeed - maybe it will be helpful for someone
First of all I found a Thread with Mi 5 qualcolm diagnostic drivers. After installing these drivers device was recognized by QPST as in diagnostic mode. Unfortunately another problem came up. "Invalid command from device". I did quick research and it was related to broken EFS, so I needed reapair/reset EFS - but theorically it was impossible without root and for rooting device unlocked bootloader is needed (my is blocked). So finally I found a dial code for EFS reset:
*#*#25327337#*#*
It helped. After this all what I needed to do was to check box in QPST "Allow ESN mismatch" and it successfully wrote QCN file.
Now my IMEI is back
Regards
I have a small problem I have a lot of android devices and their corresponding unlock codes in an excel sheet. So IMEI, Unlock Code
What I want to do is figure if its possible to script the unlock process. I have good dev skills but I've never done any android development. What is the most feasible way to do this? I currently plug in a sim card and manually unlock. The other thing I do if I don't have a simcard for samsung phones you can do #7465625*638*# then enter code. Would I have to write logic to say read the imei figure out the model number then send the appropriate code? Are there any code examples any where of how people unlock phones using bruteforcing? I don't know what interface I'm targeting to be able to unlock. Any help is appreciated.
Minimal amount of manual labor: insert sim if needed (some phones require only wifi connection to check if oem unlock is available, some do need sim though), enable development options, enable ADB. Even that could be automated with arduino and a wire on screen, if you need to unlock hundreds of devices.
After adb is enabled, you would have to write a script to reboot to fastboot, then parse output of 'fastboot getvar all '/ 'fastboot getvar imei' (tough luck if your device isn't reporting imei to fastboot - then you have to code more java/c), issue 'fastboot reboot' and using 'adb shell input' start the unlocking process.
