Get on a mobile network that this phone fully supports. What carrier are you on? This phone doesn't get better than edge on certain networks. (for example, T-mobile USA)
Thanks for the replies. I am having data sim card. No router.

You should look for carriers who offer the fastest data network speed. I know here in holland, its vodafone. So perhaps you should switch carriers for faster speed. There isnt a other way to increase it.

From what I was able to find though, Mobily DOES use a frequency (WCDMA 2100) that this phone supports.
Did you get the phone brand new? Or used? Are you sure it's an i9100 model phone?

like someone already told you, you should try flashing a different modem (afaik, you can try any sgs2 modem you like, no matter which rom/kernel you are on).
here is a link for a thread with a collection of modems

Try 3G/4G Optimizer. You can tweak for max speed.

Edit:
Ahh apparently he was not clear, on first post he said he is on edge.
Thank you all for replies. I will let you know when I downloaded them. My connection changes frequently from E TO H TO 3G TO G. I HAVE PUT ON AUTOMATIC.

Now my Internet far better than before. I changed the network type to auto instead of gsm. I also did the tweaks. Also it is much faster when outside rather than at home or at work because of poor signals.

Sorry to be a bother. I have serached numerious post about simular problems with details pretaining to a fix in this matter. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-I777. The Rom I am currently running is ShoStock V.2.2.6, Android 4.0.3 with the cheerypicker Kernel and bandband ver.I777UCPLCS. The problem I have been having and did not have before flashing this rom, is that my 3G signal and HSPA+ notification keeps flickering back and forth. Plus my data speed have slowed up a bit. Yes, I could flash back to another rom but I really like the features of this one. Is there a fix to this problem is it a known problem? Thanks so much.
Try a different modem.
Also H+ only shows when using data, if not it will show the 3g instead.

I figured that LiLChris. But it keeps flickering back and forth. Plus this is mow happening in areas that I once had a full H+ signal with very fast speeds.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA
The flickering is part of ShoStock and most other ROMs. It shows you the true connection; as LiLChris said, it uses H+ only when using data, and defaults to 3G when no data is being sent. AT&T usually just hides this and makes it show H+ all the time, even though that's not accurate.
I know, it freaked me out at first too lol. As for data speeds, try different modems and also changing APN settings.
EDIT: I didn't know the problem was when you're sending data (you posted a couple secs before I did). APN settings and a different modem may help you out with that.
Sounds like modem issues as stated. In my area modems can vary by up to 2mbs depending on which one I try

What's your experiences with modems in the UK? I'm on Vodafone and not getting great reception and more often than not stuck on 2G which kinda sucks.
Any advice?
I'm on Omega ROM and just flashed LF5 which has probably been the worst modem of the lot.
Thanks
Dxlea is doing the business for me squire however... im tmobile

this says more about voda's 3g coverage to be honest, i havenever had good 3g coverage on voda, then again i have never had what i call good 3g on any phone i have had. Things may improve now the are partnering with 02, network coverage will be doubled in some areas.
I've currently got DXLEA modem. It's nothing special, I get OK signal but hardly ever get above G in terms of network speed
Was fine in my Galaxy S, seems to have gone downhill since I got the S3. I also got it replaced because of pink tint, but the network speed was the same on both handsets
Nele4 that what I'm using on o2 signal is rubbish on the s3 vs s2

I've recently noticed a weird network bug on LFB. If the phone loses signal (on subway etc.) with data on, when signal is available it acts as though the SIM was refused by the network continuing to display Emergency calls only. If I turn data on and off it gets weirder (see screenshot).
The only way to fix it is too reset the radio, with flight mode, or *#*#4636#*#*
It's definitely not a hardware fault since, as you can see it still can connect to the network. It just acts as though the connection was refused (or alternatively does something weird that causes it to ACTUALLY be refused)
Anyone else experienced this??
The phone is an original BTU using unmodified LFB on China Unicom

Are you able to set/receive calls or send/receive SMS? What about USSD codes to your provider?
I've already read about other users complaining about this issue, I guess it's a software-bug in the display.
No. I'm not sure if HSDPA will work in the example pictured. I was in a hurry to make a phone call so just quickly snapped the screenshot then reset the modem.
Messages will get service unavailable. Incoming ones don't get received until I reset

Yes, I've experienced the same thing a couple of times since LFB on carrier Telia in Sweden.
It reminds me of the phone/modem problems with the SGN which they never fixed before I sold it.

Washington D.C. has no GSM coverage inside the tunnels. Only some stations have coverage. Only Verizon and Sprint with CDMA devices have service on moving trains.

Beijing.
Well 2G is okay. But it sometimes will lose it briefly in the transition from 2g to 3g.
Only Beijing subway line 4 has China unicom WCDMA coverage. the others are limited to 2g at best (except the overground lines, but even they are patchy)

Having updated to the stock LFB ROM and modem (UK, unlocked, unrooted), I'm really perplexed about the behavior of the phone data reception:
(a) 2 weeks ago, I tried using data connection in a friend's flat in Balham (London), could not get ANY data connection all weekend.
(b) Last weekend, data was consistently perfect and fast anywhere in the same flat, all "H+" 8Mbit and lovely.
(c) This weekend, same place but NO reception again, not a saussage. Voice phone worked fine, just no data at all.
And, yes, I've seen "emergency calls only" sometimes even when there is apparently a strong signal.
Back home again (Portsmouth), phone works fine.
On the plus side, battery consumption is wonderfully low!
Can anyone explain what's going on? It feels like the data connection is sometimes reluctant to "log in" or whatever is does! It seems to have a mind of it's own.
Thanks!
You may want to try another modem like DXLF3. It has better data network stability especially in cities or areas with faint signal.
I am planning to upgrade to the LFB, but i am not rooted. Want to be sure if i have problems with the modem signal, do i have to be rooted to install the new modem driver??
Thanks in advance...
Got a problem , hope you guys can help.
My my mobile data won't work on anything less than HCDMA, but when I set this my phone signal drops to 1 bar or less!
If I set it to gsm my signal goes full but no data!
I have rooted and installed a insecure kernel /rom as below .... worked fine for a few months.
Model number : GT-I9300
Android version : 4.0.4
Baseband version : I93000VLG1
Kernel version :
3.0.15-928452-user
[email protected] #1

Build number : IMM76D.I9300BVBLG2
Is there a chance you are on 3 UK?
Afaik, as their name indicates, they only provide 3G/HSPA coverage and no 2G coverage.
3G uses higher frequencies which means more throughput but less distance so it's normal that the signal is weaker than when using 2G networks.
It's also less resiliant to distortion and other signal issues.
You might want to check into using a 3G repeater if the issue occurs at home but be warned that the usage of these devices is shady at best and illegal in most countries. (You'd need an official license to broadcast at that spectrum even if it never reaches across your own borders)

no problem. do leave a feedback!
kernels are for wifi connections
modems are for network connections like your signal
Try calling your carrier and ask them to refresh your network and APN setting. I suffered this problem yesterday and called my carrier five times to deal with it. Now it is running fine.

Thanks guys for both of your suggestions, I did change my modem and I did ring Vodafone to refresh.
The modem did improve the signal slightly but the refresh has resumed normal service!
At least I now know how to change or tweak my modem for optimum performance. Also did not know the kernel was for WiFi.....will look at that too!

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
As i find and as others have posted .
If you have changed modems and get problems after reflash to a known good modem .
Then one solution is to start from scratch wipe phone and install older stock firmware .
Then update .

You are most welcome
