Hi all,
I like the DSC rom very much, using it since 1.0 on my streak. Thanks for your great work!
During my holiday I noticed a problem with GPS (with DSC 1.4), which wasn't there before. Now on 1.5 the problem still exists. Now I hope, you can help me.
When I start a navigation software (Navigon or Locus pro) the GPS symbol appears. After getting a GPS fix, the symbol dissapears for a glimpse, reappears and the search for a GPS fix starts again. With the app "GPS status" there is the same problem, if I start it afterwards.
The only way to get a steady GPS fix is to deactivate/reactivate GPS in android menu and then start "GPS status". If I afterwards start Navigon or Locus Pro, GPS doesn't work anymore.
I used the search, so I can say:
- No, I don't use any arabic patch
- No, I don't have 3d chainfire driver installed
- I wiped dalvik cache every time I updated ROMs
- Post #626 in DSC developer thread describes the same problem I think, but I didn't find a solution
I tried to post my question in DSC developer thread, but wasn't allowed to.
Hope you can help me. Thanks!

try using fastergps ... and select your appropriate region... maybe the pool server is mismatched... once you have setup the pool server for your region.. use gps test ... and see if the satellite getting stable or not.. usually it takes bout 2 3 minutes to stabilize itself... once you see a steady feet number... you can use your navigation software back..
Yes, I remember this reported.
Most probably it's not related to ROM version, but to some error in system gps module.
I personally experienced this once (reboot helped), but logs gave me no information.
All I figured that time - my system was low on mem and maybe gps lib has mem allocation errors. But this is only a guess.
I use GPS on daily basic, but also reboot device too frequently to be a trusted source for this case, sorry.
Also, just in case -
would you run
su
getprop | grep -c ""
in terminal emulator
and tell the number it'll show?
Thank you for your help, I think I have nailed it down!
First I have set my area in fastergps, then I started gps test. It showed the same on/on/on/off problem as before.
Checked available space: 1.1 Gb internal memory, 3.2 Gb sd card.
Then I ran terminal emulator:
broken gps: 224
right after reboot: 220
after running gps tester: 222
after running navigon, locus, google maps: 222
after some minutes of playing around, it was broken again: 222
right after next reboot: 204
after playing around (gps still working): 220
broken again: 220
Then I thought about all installed apps which are accessing gps. There I think was the problem. The app "Regen Alarm OSM Plus" has the option to get the position via gps or via network. Since I deactivated the gps option, I didn't have any problems till now. For verifying that thought, i reactivated the gps option in that app, with the result of immediately having broken gps again. So most likely this was the cause.
Thanks for your help!
nice.. if anything similar happen again.. we would ask them to check this thread
I've had a similar problem but it was when I installed 3D chainfire. When I install the driver it would remove the navigation app that comes stock with google maps. But there was a work around to this by going through google maps and clicking on the arrow icon to navigate but then the GPS icon doesn't appear and the bottom it seems to be locating GPS signal as it says, "GPS locating..." and continues for a while unless i have wifi or use my 3G thats the only way the location can be shown but its not constant as in the dot doesn't really move but refreshes with the signal. didn't really know how to fix this so I took off 3d chainfire

I purchased Sygic a few months ago and at first it worked pretty good. However recently I am getting / experiencing more and more problems with this navigation program.
The problem is, whenever I start Sygic it says it's loading and then throws me back to the main screen. :S
I recently installed the Aura ROM, but this didn't fix anything.
Maybe uninstalling and removing all the configuration files would fix my problem. I understand how to uninstall, however I don't know where the configuration files are stored.
Anyone care to help or is experiencing the same problem?
Hi there!
I'm having the same issue, using ΠCrust ROM, which is based in ATT's ROM. I check into the Sygic forums, and it appears to be a bug with this ROM version. I posted for support in the forum, as in the begining, the aplication was having problems with OpenGL also. The lastest version resolvs the OpenGL problems, but this Open and ForceClose issue is still present.
Here's the link were the issue was originally reported:
http://support.sygic.com/sygic/topics/crash_on_motorola_atrix_2_3
For the FC, there's a work around, it seems it conflicts in some way with the GPS. So to start Sygic you will have to:
1. Disable GPS in the phone
2. Open Sygic, it will ask you to activate the GPS showing a dialog, click settings, activate the GPS and select back
3. Sygic will open normally
Hope it helps at least for you to use the application.
Thanks for the tips. I am on CM7 and have been experiencing the same things.

Hello,
I am using SGH-i777 outside USA (in Kosovo). I purchased it unlocked so everything works as expected, except GPS. The phone came with Gingerbread (not rooted). I tried GPS through google maps but i was getting "You location is temporarily unavaliable" and the scan was taking ~10 minutes without any results. Applications such as AccuWeather were also not able to find my location.
After this dissapointment, i decided to root the phone and install a custom ROM. I followed the guide posted at this link and followed the steps there 100% without making any changes/mistakes. I installed the Siyah 2.6 Kernel and the ROM that i choose to install was Aberration. I also followed the guides for this and did everything as advised. I turned the phone on but the GPS was still behaving the same. After this, i purchased GPS Doctor and clicked "Quick Fix". After this i downloaded GPS Test to see if the signal was alive, and after ~2 minutes of scanning, GPS Test found around 7 satellites and the signal appeared green within this app. I followed this by opening Google Maps and i got the correct location after ~2 minutes scan. This made me happy and i believed the GPS issue got fixed. But after trying after few hours, i saw that maps was again facing the same issues and apps that require location access were not being able to do so.
And the last step that i did was install a gps fix as posted on this thread. I know this thread states that they do not officially support sgh-i777, but i was out of options so i had to try something else. I followed all the instructions and downloaded and installed the Google Specific v 1.3 from that website. But this did not fix the problem either.
To conclude; the GPS is simply not working as expected. Finding the location takes to long and i was able to get the location in Google Maps only 10% of the time (my old iPhone 3gs finds the location in 3seconds!). I have tried this indoors and outdoors but the problem remains the same. During all the times, Wi-Fi, GPS and Data were turned on
Currently i have un-rooted the phone (followed the guides here) and am currently running the official ICS which i installed through Odin. Tried GPS again and it still does not work.
Sorry for the long thread but i wanted to explain all the details.
Hope someone can help me.
Looks to me like one of 2 problems:
1) You're not getting a good time from NTP server, try downloading FasterFix and selecting your area (need root). Not very likely, since with good GPS you'll still have a fix within 1-2 min.
2) HW problem, possibly antenna contacts.
So any go around for hardware problem?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
HW problems are solved in HW. You can't "go around" and make the bulbs light in your house when the power has been cut off, can you? So how exactly can you "go around" a bad contact with antenna, that practically equals a missing antenna?
Just fix it.
In settings under location services did you check "use internal GPS" ?
Not even sure if aberration has that option. Jelly Bean ROMs do.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
All the ROMs do. It's a stock Android option, equals to toggling the "GPS" toggle on in pull-down toggles.
And of course if he didn't have it toggled, he wouldn't see any satellites at all.
Plus, the original post is 2 months old. I believe the OP has already solved the problem or moved on.
I bought HDC Storm MX phone from China. It has MT6589 quad-core (if that changes anything). It had all the chinese apps, but I removed them, and flashed gapps, and everything is working great, except the gps.
It just cant get a lock on anything. After waiting a few minutes, it just found 2 sattelites, but didnt lock on them.
It's rooted, and I already tried changing "gps.conf" file, but it didn't help.
I attached the screen I get, when I am using GPS Status.
I dont know what the second icon from the left side in the status bar means.
How can I fix this, as there are probably no custom roms for this device?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you.

I found the solution. None of the apps from google play worked. Tried gps doctor, fastergps, gps fix etc.
Maybe "gps.conf" trick works when you get partial gps fix, but it didn't for me at the time.
Even reseting and downloading A-GPS data didn't help me.
In the end, the fix was very easy, I just didn't think of that at first..
So if anyone needs it:
1. screen) Settings -> Location access,
2. screen) Location access -> click on "GPS satellites",
3. screen) Enable both GPS EPO and A-GPS,
4. screen) In EPO Settings check the auto download, and click the Download button.
That's it. It helped for me, I get a GPS fix in Waze now in 3-10 seconds.
I read about EPO, but couldn't find it in the settings.
Hope that helps.
Cheers.
Thank you very much, been banging my head against the wall with this one. I have a mtk6589, Have been using Android since the G1 and I some overlooked the basics...

Be aware that AGPS and EPO will consume data traffic. Usually not too much - but keep an eye on the data usage for a few days to get a notion of the ammount.
HDC storm mx - howto flash the gapps - recovery mode in Chinese?
I entered the recovery mode hoping I could install the gapps zip file.
But the menu is in Chinese, no idea what I should select!
In fact, the only way I got out of this factory mode was by removing the battery...
I tried to simply install the apps one by one, but the installs all failed.
Advice is most welcomed, but please with the details, if possible.
thanks,
guy

How I did it - I had a second phone with Google Translate installed. I used the option to capture picture and translate text in it.
I don't remember which options from the top I had to choose, but it worked out fine with that method. First I flashed ClockWorkMod (cwm) recovery, and from that point on I had everything in english.
Which CWM for HDC STORM MX
COOL IDEA!
which CWM did you use?

I don't really remember which one I used, but I guess it had to be the one in this file - http://www.putlocker.com/file/79BB23D5D744EC65 (as HDC Storm MX is a rebranded Firefly II)
As the file is big, and I can't check it at the moment, I will download it and take a look in the next hour or so
partial fix
This works to get a quick fix and start navigating...but I have the problem that gps cant seem to keep a lock on. it will show my correct location, and a few secs later its off by a few streets....it will lock on...and lose.
Any suggestions?
it also influences other apps using gps like sports trackers. here something strange(r) happens: it will have mapped my route ACCURATELY, but the distance calculation will be off by A LOT. A 7km run got logged as 55km, a 30km bike ride was shown as 325km. those differences are huge. ive tried endomondo and runtastic - same issues.

It might be related to framework-res.apk
Sometime the OEM modified the map and geo redirection to baidu, user who want to use Google Maps with GPS need to decompile framework-res.apk and change the following properties to
<string name="config_networkLocationProviderPackageName">com.google.android.location</string>
<string name="config_geocodeProviderPackageName">com.google.android.location</string>
in res\values\strings.xml
Did you find a solution for this ?

another variation
I have a similar problem with my Star N9599T (MediaTek MT6589T SoC) in that it has 11 to 31 satellites 'in view' but fails to get a lock.
I have
* used fasterGPS to modify /system/etc/gps.conf
* permitted access to location in settings
* activated download for EPO & A-GPS in settings
* deleted /data/misc/mtkgps.dat & rebooted
* tried several things in MobileUncle>engineer_mode>location
* reset A-GPS in GPS Status
The satellites in view in GPS Test never change from 0.0 signal strength, even with 31 satellites in view.
/storage/sdcard0/GPS.LOG (covering several days) shows about 7 seconds with a lock.
The NMEA log shows what appears to be a lat/long position that stays stable to 0.001°
If anyone can point me to instructions for MobileUncle 'location' or gps.conf I would appreciate it, or if anyone knows what the actual problem is that would be good too
[update]
I unscrewed the inner back cover & checked inside. (just the black screws, but there is one under a tiny sticker at bottom right. Leave the brass one under the SDcard)
It all seemed clean but I blew gently through it all anyway, then found one slightly loose screw which I tightened.
Put it all back together (inner back cover is really awkward to get properly seated) & it works!
It was very slow to get a lock & I reset it several times before it would lock, but it held the lock while walking & got it straight back after I'd been on a bus. (using My Tracks so i can look afterwards)
One thing that it didn't like was switching to GPS Status & back again, it lost the lock for over a minute & was wrong by 25 metres when it got it back. I walked for 50 metres before the accuracy came back.
My HTC Wildfire S can also be slow to lock occasionally so I'm hoping it will be ok now.
.
I've been on Pure.V5.4.1 since it was uploaded. For the last 4 days (at least), Maps/Navigation hasn't worked at all. I get an hourglass and then 'No Network Connection' (or whatever the message is) or if I'm on the map itself it just never fills in - a blue screen. I do have network - either WiFi or LTE (I can run chrome and do a search, etc), but Maps never connects. Clearing the Maps data/cache didn't help. I the past I needed to do that when installing one of your roms so that it would ask me for the basic permissions again.
Any ideas? I must have Maps!
Peter
The GPS issues across the board with this device are strange. I'll have to sit down and figure it out one of these days.
Basically, the arguably weird fix for any and all GPS issues is boot into a TW ROM(backup your current install) get a GPS fix in TW. Then restore your desired ROM.
It seems really weird to me because I don't see why GPS configurations would get messed up randomly and by only non-TW ROMs.
sent from my GE gs4
"No Network Connection" in Google Maps
I have the same problem with the new version of Maps only if I start the Navigation app first.
If you open the Maps app first, then start navigation through there, it locks on and searching for a destination works without error.

Hello everyone!
This is my first post and I apologise for my english
I have very big problem with GPS connect. I was trying probably everything and I haven't idea how to fix it.
To the point: when I'm staying in one place and not moving, GPS fixing in few seconds. But few minutes later (1-2) or when I move few meters, HOX+ losing connection with sateliltes and not want connect once again.
I was installed GPS Test and is seeing some satellites, but not want to fix or connect is losing in few minutes.
I was installed: GPS Test, GPS Fix, Faster Fix and nothing. I was installed Venom ViperX+, Revolution HD and still the same. I tried this trick ( YouTube v=NfH48nbCFE4 ) with GPS antenna but isn't better...
My HOX+:
Rom: Venom ViperX+ 2.0.3 (on 2.01 and 2.0.2 was the same problem)
Android 4.2.2, Kernel 3.1.10-g7f360be, Hboot 1.72, Radio 3.1204.171.33

I dunno but try changing kernel, i use elite kernel... i had the same rom but changed it due to lag d)
Which apps that you use have problem with GPS connection?
I remember I used a speedometer tool on my HOX+. After turning on, I waited few minutes for gps signal. It stayed on "waiting for gps fix". But when I opened Endomondo, this fix came immediately.
Maybe it really depends on the app that uses GPS.

I have problem on any app - Google Maps, Google Navigation, Sygic, GPS Test, GPS Fix, Real Time GPS Tracker and few others.
Now I'm making backup's and I will try change kernel...
EDIT:
I flashed Elite Kernel and still the same
Tommorow I will try to install another ROM, but I slowly losing hope...
It's possible that some app "blocking" or something wrong doing with connection?
Edit 2:
OK. I installed Revolution HD and was the same. Flash kernel to Elite and still nothing better.
I returned to ViperX+ with "standard" kernel, I opened phone and "improved" GPS antenna and.... is better! More satellites, faster fix, better signal, but still sometimes losing connection for few seconds (and connecting again which earlier was impossible)...
