I am bit intimidated here. Only started using Hero for a week. Used to serial flasher of Windows mobile. Anyway,
I have a G2 with ROM version 1.76; I just wondered if I would be able to flash the new 2.73 ROM (official) on G2. When I insert the my serial number on the HTC website, it says the this ROM is not suitable for my device. I guess it is because it was intended for unbranded Hero. I have downloaded the ROM from XDA. Can I just run it flash it on G2..? Is there any precautions I need to take. HTC may release a new ROM for Tmobile G2. Bur I dont have the patience to wait. Any info will be highly appreciated.
Regards
Anyone tried this..? Or will I brick my phone..?
To be honest, if you're not going to install a custom ROM, you probably might as well wait until the T-Mobile release of the ROM. I doubt it will be long now, and it will just make the process a "little" easier and you'll have less issues if you end up having to send the phone back under warranty.
For what it's worth, I flashed my G2 with Modacos ROM without issue (currently at 2.2 as it seems 2.3 has more issues).
Regards,
Dave
Thanks for your reply. I am not planning to install any custom ROMs yet. But I would like to try the official ROM. Do u think it would be problem if I upgrade with generic 2.73 ROM..?
Another issue is, I cannot sync with HTC sync. I am using vista Home premium. Phone says it cannot detect HTC sync on computer. I tried turning off the Frewall and antivirus. Any ideas..?
You won't break anything. I downloaded the "official" 2.73 ROM from Modaco and it's running fine on my T-Mobile G2.
I phoned tech support about this in the UK and after a long and heated argument got the guy to actually give me the information. He said that the Update for the T-mobile version of the Hero would be released on the 1st November. This is really poor work, especially as Orange have managed it in about a week.
According to the Official T-Mobile UK forum they are 'hoping' to get it released this week.
Also try updating HTC Sync. The version on the HTC support site is a later version than the one on the memory card. You might find it works better.
Hi
I have an Orange (UK) HTC Hero. Works fine actually. However, i spotted a ROm upgrade dated 2010-02-04 on the HTC website (ROM Version:2.73.61.66 for Orange). Currently I am running version 2.73.61.5.
Do I get any benefit from upgrading to the new ROM version, and if yes, what would the benefit be?
Also, I understood from HTCs website that an upgrade wipes out everything on my phone, including Orange's setup. Does this mean that the phone also becomes sim free?
If I do perform the upgrade, how can I restore Orange's settings? SHould I write them down before I perform the upgrade, or could I go to the Orange shop and ask them to set it up for me?
Any advice would be appreciated
Anyone ???
Bro I M Also facing the same situation .. I Also want to know the Ans. can anyone Helps me ? Should I install New RUU ? Or not ?
I wouldnt update, as this is still Android 1.5. Don't forget, that the offical 2.1 update will be released in june.
Actually, by now Orange UK is the only provioder worldwide that has not rolled out 2.1 for the Hero. So I say screw them, and I went for villainROM 12. Best thing I ever did, except I probably need to update the radio firmware, as now it seems to have degraded reception.
I now got all the goodies one would want on my hero. Now to unlock it! (but I know where to get a code for that, so no worries).
Remain in that version 2.73.61.5. it's very easy to root from there. the latest one .61.66 won't allow you to root.
Hi Guys,
I've stumbled into a problem with my Hero. I had it rooted early this year, and had been using Floyo 1.9 recently. However, I think due to some hardware problem, my screen has lost sensitivity at the bottom.
I need to send it in for repairs to HTC.
However, I think i'll need to unroot my phone before sending it in.
I need to know how can i do that. I also need to know how do I find and put on it the local official Rom. I am based in Hong Kong.
I don't have any backup.
Any advise would be much appreciated. I'm pretty desperate here as I cant afford another phone.
Thanks.
Ok, I've been searching around, and I think I may know how to unroot. But how do I get my local Hong Kong ruu?
And if I were to install 2.1 official on it and after getting it back from repairs, would I be able to root it again?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712552
I found this rom here called [ROM]RUU_Hero_hTC_Asia_HK_WWE_3.34.721.1_R_Radio_63.18. 55.06P
I would really like to ask someone if this would be ok for me to flash?
I need to send my phone back to HTC for repair.
But I also would like to make sure that I can root my phone again after flashing official 2.1
I read from some posts that you cannot root once u get official 2.1
Would someone please advise me on the steps I need to take?
Thanks a lot.
Just go to the official HTC website for your country and then download the RUU file that it gives you from support. PRobably the 1.5/1.6 ROM. Install HTC Sync latest version, plug in your phone and run the RUU. It's as easy as that.
Funnily enough, HTC does not provide downloads to local official RUUs for the HK region. I have no idea why.
But I was able to download it from that thread above. I then had to first install HTC Sync to let it install drivers of my phone to the computer, and then ran that Ruu and now I have an Unrooted Hero with Sense 2.1
I'll be sending it in for repairs soon, and hopefully I can have it rooted again afterwards.
It's been a valuable learning experience.
Yes that is what I did, I unrooted my device sent it off for repairs, noe unrooted again and running cyanogen 6.1 froyo and it rocks....
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
+1 to HTC for some superb customer service as well..
My warranty had just expired, but considering the hardware defect, they were willing to extend it and help me out.
This is the kind of stuff that makes consumers purchase a particular company's product again.
Hopefully next Christmas I'll get a nice 4.3 inch dual processor HTC phone with Android 3.0 or above. ;-)
so everything i have to do to unroot it, is flashing the official rom
from the htc homepage?
it is the ROM version 2.73.405.5 - is this right?
i got the screen problems too and have to send it in.
am i able to reroot it after it got repaired?
Hello All,
I bought what turned out to be an ATT branded unlocked M7 phone, to use on the T-mobile system. At the time I didn't realize that it wouldn't update once on T-mobile OTA. Wasn't a problem until it started acting up recently. Hoping updating manually will solve the hot/reboot/shutdown,etc. issues I'm currently having. When I contacted HTC they told me I could do it with HTC sync, and the latest Rom on their site. After numerous failures, I am told it won't update from a ROM as old as mine, & that they will upgrade my status and get back to me in 3-5 days to see if they can help me. Nice Huh?? As I have a small amount of experience here before, I figured one of the genius's here may be able to outline the steps for me, or tell me how to get to the point that I can get current. Possibly several steps? Thanks in advance! Richard
Android 4.1.2, Software 1.26.502.12, Kern. V. 3.4.10-g0a0f902
Download this and run it from your Windows computer if you never did it before Google how to run a ruu for HTC
It will bring you to android 4.3 jelly been
http://androidruu.com/getdownload.p...13_10.38j.1157.04_release_334235_signed_2.exe
After that you can run the kit Kat sense 5.5 if you are not happy with the result , to update to sense 6 kit Kat after you have sense 5.5 you will need to run ota manually or get an att SIM from somebody and try to check for updates, or using an att SIM the way you have your phone now may work to do the 5 ota available for the phone. Good luck.

Hello, people
I just got an HTC M9 and it is from AT&T. I'm located in Dominican Republic and I've been told that it is unlocked. The thing is that I'm not able to update the android. It has 5.0.2 and I know that the HTC M9 allows to upgrade up to Android Nougat. I don't know if the phone may be flashed and get a new android OS installed on it. I'm really newbie in this subject and I don't know what to do. When I go to Settings > About > software, nothing shows up to update. The only update option is "AT&T software update", but it always says that there are not updates. Now it says: "network is not ready". I've thought about selling the phone cheaper and get a new HTC M9 factory unlocked or Verizon, but that would take some money. I didn't knew any of this when I got the phone... What would you recommend? Is it possible to flash the phone or should I get a new one?
You can download the 3.38.502.XX ruu from htc... Nougat I do not believe will be released from ATT... You cannot update the ATT software unless you are on ATT network, I would suggest converting the device to the developer edition and then you will get at least Nougat and security updates.

Thanks for your answer. However, I already bought a new HTC M9 T-Mobile version, which got updated at once. I tried to flash it and install several android versions, but none of them worked.
Att has released 7.0 Feb patches. I haven't got the update yet but this is great news for our phone finally
I stand corrected then... This is good news for you guys...
