There is no 4.0.4 for our phone unless you mean a rom.

Please for the love of god tell me that you don't have a skyrocket

If u have the skyrocket this is not the forum for your phone. If you mistyped and meant 4.0.3 what rom were u flashing and give us some more details.

No, learn to factory reset and flash roms. If you can't learn how to do that you shouldn't be Modding your phone. I'm not trying to be a ****, I want you to be able to use your phone.

its really quite simple. you are obviously NOT using a stock rom, so therefore, boot into recovery and reflash after factory reset....not really sure how that is so hard to understand.

the problem is that i'm from vzla and i dont speak so much english, as you may saw i make a lot of errors writing so i dont understand when you say that i must reflash, i'm gonna try to do it like you explain me, one more thing that i notice and i want to tell you is that when i go to storage/ internal storage/ says that a have a total space of 1.97GB (before i have the problem says 11.94GB) i dont know why the internal sd turn in to smaller... dont know but seems like some how i made a partition or something like that and make the size of the internal sd smaller and the remaining space i think it must be there whitout format, don't know if i'm right...

Language barriers aren't an excuse for lack of knowledge. Not with today's technology. U can Google any words u don't understand and find the answers u need, that's what I have to do on these darn chinese sites. But Google translate makes it easier good luck

Just reflash the ROM. Or are u on the stock ICS update? If yer on a custom ROM boot into recovery, wipe /data /system /cache and /dalvik. Then reinstall the ROM. See if the problem persists.

Advice for ROM flashing noob.

Hi guys,
Right so I own both Galaxy SII(personal), GT-S5830(business) and my wife has a GT-S5830. Located in the UK
Now I have been looking at the latest CyanogenMod and would like to install this ROM on my GT-S5830, as I understand this is one of the best custom ROM's available for this phone.
However every where I read advises me to first backup my /efs folder, only problem is I can't find this folder to back it up! So far I have tried EFS Pro and a few others, but they all fail or give me an empty folder.
Any help would be very much appreciated as I have been researching this since Friday and I'm pretty much ready to blow a gasket....
Dont ever try to touch ace efs partition as its dangerous. Many had hard brick their ace because of tinkering with that efs partition. Ace's efs partition is abit different from other device because it's hidden and unmounted upon booting.
Btw try LEWA rom

If that's the case why is everyone telling me to back it up? I'm more interested than ever now lol, is the Ace the only one that has this partition hidden?
Everyone from where? I never came across any post here on ace forum that advice to tinker with the efs partition. And its stupid to advice to do so on ace because in order to backup it u need to mount it first and thats when disaster strike.

I thick it has something to do with IMEI coz some guys r loosing their IMEI after flushing custom Roms which results to no signal situation meaning ua phone is done 4 real coz there is no known way of recovering it 4 Our ace
I keep reading that it is wise to back up this folder before you start flashing new ROM in case you screw this folder up.
U read that on other device forum, not here on ace forum. As i said earlier, dont ever touch ace's efs partition.
But if u insist of doing so, theres a thread here somewhere guiding howto network unlock ace, and in the process also explain howto mount that particular hidden partition. May god be with u if u ever try to do it.

haha I already unlocked my business phone using that thread, didn't actually realize that was the partition it mounted.... silly me.

Maybe you should read my OP before you make comments, I used the search button, spent two days doing research and found nothing directly relating to what I asked.
If you don't have anything constructive to say then say nothing at all.
There are a few apps in the market which can backup your efs folder.
I never tried them though.

'dont touch the efs' thats what everyone says. what im understand is u should/ always backup ur rom before flashing custom roms with cwm. its for your own safety. ..and.. backup ur sdcard before making an ext for system i make a mistake for the first time and lose all of my data in my sd including my gf pics.

Don't listen to anybody who says to leave the efs alone. I don't have your device but I STRONGLY urge you to find a way to back up that file. If you have already rooted the phone then a good file explorer should allow you to make a copy and send it to dropbox or save it to your external SD. Even mass storage and copy/paste it to your hard drive on your computer. And yes... CyanogenMod is the very best.
Good luck!

Super Wipe - Clear your NAND and SD Card

I made for fun a super wipe zip. Install it from CWM.
It's remove :
EVERYTHINK in NAND , and EVERYTHINK in SD Card
It's remove even CWM installed from kernel.
After SuperWipe you need to install Kernel/Baseband/Rom

Well, sometimes you do want to wipe sd card: lots of directories made by applications which might be uninstalled, duplicities from different roms (pictures/Images/DCIM/Camera/...) or whatever.
But truth is there are easier ways to format sdcard...

[Q] The files on /sdcard/ and /external_sd/ are reversed. Help !

So I just flashed an update of Resurrection Remix rom from 1.9.1 to 2.4, at first it was working fine, then, I noticed that the usual internal memory card files were in /emmc, which was typical for AOKP roms, so I went and looked for the solution, and then, theres this post about a workaround, right here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1536568 and so, it said to install directory bind and all that stuff.
Well because I'm stupid, I rushed and ticked the 'transfer files from target to data' which was not the thing to do. So all my internal files from /emmc went into external_sd.
So to sum it up, the files originally from my /external_sd/ went into /sdcard and the files from /sdcard went into /external_sd/.
I actually restored from the backup and thank goodness it was back to normal, BUT! I really liked that update but whenever I reflash that update back, for some reason the problem returns.
If anyone can help me, I'll be deeply in gratitude

You could try but i doubt that. Just to make sure make a nandroid backup first. Do a factory reset and flash the rom you wanted and see if it fixes it. Anyway, you could just restore your backup if something goes wrong like you did before.

[SOLVED] [Q] Possible Soft Bricked Note

Hello all, I am looking for a little advice. I'll give as much backstory as possible:
I used the cyanogenmod one click installer, everything went well. Since the one click installer put twrp on I went and put clockworkmod on since im more familure with it. Everything fine restarted and phone worked however after I installed (attempted to install facebook messeger) the device rebooted and would not come back on. Sat for 5 mins vibrating over and over and over. Its not completely dead I am able to get to recovery and to download mode and believe I just had a bad download/install. Since i have Clockworkmod on here, I am thinking I could just install the most up to date stable rom available but I have a question:
How do I put the rom zip files on phone if phone wont come on.
Any advice towards this would be appreciated.
First off, where did you find a cyanogenmod one click installer? Possibly that was not meant for the I717.
Don't you have an external micro sd card? Place the card in your computer and copy the ROM zip to it. Put it back in your phone and use it to flash.

Thanks for reporting back that everything is up and running. Not many people do. Can you do me one more favor? Can you change the title to include [solved] please. This way people with similar problems will know this thread may solve their situation.
Thanks

Sure, I'm not sure why no one comes back if people take the time to reply and help them, a thank you is the least they could do.

[Q] Major Issues!!!

I have done all the things in this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2632730
Everything "seemed" fine until I tried using WiFi, I actually have to hit the wifi button and then restart my phone for the wifi to actually work, weird...
Besides that, the phone has just been restarting itself and it's happening more and more. And lately, it's wicked slow with just about everything I try to do... its just super glitchy. So I thought that maybe starting from scratch would be the best way to make things right, and then re-root...
But doing this caused many questions while reading through the forum and I'm hoping that someone can help point me in the right direction...
I guess the most important questions are:
Do I wipe the phone and do a clean install, going back to stock first?
If so, because I have followed the instructions in the link above, what are the exact steps so that I don't brick it?
Should I just buy a new phone?
If I did a clean install and then re-root will it run better than it is now?
I have many more questions but I think answering these first will help out a lot...
Thanks to whoever can help me out...
Android Version 4.3
Baseband Version I605VRUEMJ9
Kernel Version 3.0.31
Build Number JSS15J.I605VRUEMJ9
Edit: I installed the new Dodol Launcher and miraculously my WiFi is working again! So I uninstalled the Nova Launcher... I am happy that I can toggle my wifi settings once again =) But I read something extremely upsetting about 2mins ago in regards to the people with unlimited data which I have, and that is, we cannot use third party apps to tether the hotspot if we did the 4.3 update!!!??? Does anyone know if this is true? I thought that I couldn't tether because my phone is somehow screwed up, not because they blocked me from using it...

Never experienced any issues like that

Thanks lacoursiere18!
After I get back to ramc3 and reunlock do you know how can I stop the OTA from popping up and trying to get me to install it? I want to be able to tether a mobile hotspot, so I need to stay on this one (because of the unlimited data), I think...?
On another note (no pun intended), I was starting the backup process and noticed that the phone has 10.3GB of internal storage, but when I add up all the folders it only amounts to 2.24GB! Does that mean that the OS is taking up 8GB!??? It just seems like a bit much and I can't see anything, there were no hidden folders or system files that I could find either... weird...
To stop the nag on the update use titanium backup to freeze SDM 1.0

Try backing up your data and then reformat it through your phone settings. If that doesn't work you might want to reflash the ROM. Or go into the settings and remount it that way. But if it worked fine before you flashed the ROM I would reflash....

I had no luck with the memory card back up because I had to format my sd card as expat for version 22. Do you know of any way I could email the developer of my Rom to see if there is a fix or update on the way to fix this. It says I have to wait to have 10 posts.

It has to be the something to do with the format of the memory card and the ROM. My twrp recovery reads that all of my stuff is still there. It's just the version of the ROM that doesn't. Any ideas?
