I consider myself to be fairly resourceful, but i cannot figure out why my Evo 3D will not boot any rom. I recently wiped the phone and attempted to load the stock ICS rom. Now no matter what i do when i turn the phone on, it loads the white HTC screen with green text. and just sits there. The phone is HTC unlocked and is S-ON, its HBoot 1.5, with eMMC-boot.
I have tried loading the boot.img through fastboot, but nothing seems to work.

It is a boot.img issue.
Wipe & re-flash. Then flash boot.img through fastboot.
Do not use USB 3.0 ports or USB Hubs or Extension cables while flashing through fastboot. A USB 2.0 port at the back of the PC is recommended.

Ok using TWRP 1.0.3, i wipe everything, install ICS rom zip, then fastboot the boot-signed.img within the ICS zip.
USB cable plugged directly from my laptop the the phone, usb 2.0 port.
I will report shortly

1. You need to flash the boot.img from the same ROM that you're flashing through recovery.
2. ICS rom zip? If this is the rom.zip from an RUU, then it needs to be flashed through fastboot.

I downloaded the ICS rom from the following link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420206
I pulled the boot.img using 7zip and installed it using fastboot flash boot boot.img
It is now in a bootcycle, getting past the white htc screen but when the sprint animation starts it reboots.

I recommend getting s-off. Since you can't boot, you may need to relock the bootloader and run an ruu first. Get it to boot and then unlock. Then follow the steps of the wire trick.

Is the ruu you downloaded compatible with this cid? I don't remember how to unpack the ruu to see the compatibility file, but I'm almost sure that you can find on our device forums. Or you can download a different ruu to try.

i was able to successfully unlock bootloader, was able to flash a rom successfully, used that rom for a good couple days. then i decided to try a new rom InfectedROM Eternity™ | RLS_1.5 | NIGHTLYS | 3.0 & 3.5 | XE BEATS |(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277431&highlight=stock+radio), so i went into recovery, wipe cache, dalvik, factory reset, system. then i flashed the new rom, new rom loaded but stuck in that roms boot screen.
i went back to recovery wiped everything out again, installed the 1st orig rom i installed, now it just loads to the htc boot screen, & every 30sec or so the htc boot screen would go off & come back on. i went to recovery wiped everything again, did nandroid restore, same results, any suggestions?
what im using:
unlocked bootloader
s -on
hboot 1.50
using teamwin recovery v2.0
Just wipe flash a new rom. Should be good to go

Did you apply any tweaks or different kernels? was your kernal that you are on now compatible with the rom that you had put on? The recovery your on, r you on 2.0 or the second releaese of 2.0?
You could try to reflash your recovery and then try to nandroid back. Or try a different kernel and or different rom and go from there. Kind of hard to diagnose bc not sure of exactly what you have done completely. If all else fails, search for the ruu and re apply the original rom and re root.
From my guess, it sounds as something that was applied didn't apply right. Again, not sure on all the details.. I know its not much to go on but good luck on it.
Look at the bright side, your obviously not bricked and if you have to re apply the original and start over, its not that bad. Just a little time out of the afternoon.
only update i did was the rom
tried about 2 more diff roms, still same issue
hmm.. i also choose the "system format" in twrp, would that have done some damage?
Are you using fastboot to boot into recovery? If not, and you're hboot 1.5, then that's your problem.
And wiping system wouldn't cause any issues as long as you flash a new ROM after wiping the system, before you reboot.

ah ok i manually go into hboot with the down volume + power. did "fastboot reboot-bootloader" into bootloader, wiped out everything & reinstall rom, still same issue.
Try extracting the boot.img from the zip file containing the rom and flashing it with with fastboot binary. If you have S-ON, CWM can't flash the boot partition so you'll get bootloops with any rom that needs a custom initrd.gz. You need to manually flash the boot partition.

Yea, do adb reboot bootloader, and then do fastboot boot recovery.img.
You will need to make sure that you have a copy of your recovery.img in the folder that you are working out of when you issue the fastboot boot recovery.img command

Okay, I'm having the same problem. No matter what I do, I get stuck in a boot loop after installing a rom. Extracting the boot.img and flashing in fastboot doesn't do a thing. My nand backups don't work either (get stuck at restoring boot).
Don't have any problems installing recovery and gaining root. I'm at a loss here. I really want to get my MIUI on!

hi all
Forgot to charge my EVO 3D (CDMA) and battery completely drained. Even after using another fully charged battery my phone goes to bootloop - just shows the HTC logo and reboots again and again. Here is what I have:
hboot : 1.5 (S-ON)
radio : 1.06.00.1216
ota : 2_17.651_5
(I am using this phone in India activated on Reliance)
As the phone doesn't boot I can't access it thru adb to give command 'adb reboot bootloader'
I can get bootloader by pressing vol_down+power
When I run the 2_17.651_5 RUU (exe) from my computer while phone is on fastboot, it completes successfully without errors. But still on reboot it just stays at the htc screen and reboots (guess it's becoz stock kernel not getting flashed as the phone is s-on)
kindly help to get back my phone boot again
thanks and regards

Don't listen to the previous guy. Try using fastboot OEM lock and then ruuing. Or, try getting freezas stock kernel and extracting the boot.IMG and flashing it thru fastboot. Or, you could use fastboot flash recover recovery.IMG to get twrp or clockworkmod and do a superwipe and try flashing a new Rom. There are tons of options if you still have fastboot.

Pleassssssse HELP !!!!!!
I have the exactly the same problem, a full reboot result in boot loop, and can not fix it by now.
I guest the phone is rooted before OTA, so OTA can not flash kernel successfully because the wrong signature, and the phone will not boot because the wrong kernel.
I have tried ruu, fastboot boot recovery.img and etc, all failed.
The key point is that, the phone is rooted and you tried OTA. HTC OTA must have a stupid bug, it can not recovery from a partial update, or automatically roll back becasuse of the partial update, dem!
Please have a look at the guide/flashing notes in my signature. If u r unlocked u are likely not entering recovery correctly.
If u are trying to flash the Ruu u have to be locked or relocked. If u cant boot to android, run the xhausx's full Ruu zip from bootloader.

Have you tried to just run the RUU like you said boot turn debug on .... Then go to hboot flash your recovery...
Then fastboot boot recovery.img.
This should work I have unrooted my phone 3 times already in the past month Trial and Error on my part adb always found my phone...
I am tryin to figure out what is going wrong on the last part with TWRP...
Since you said after you do that it was a no go? What happend ? Adb should still be working since you just flashed the recovery...
Anyways I hope you get it solved man I am tryin to figure this problem out.
Do you have a rom already ready to be flashed on your SD card?
Problem is, since i’m not able to android boot I can't reboot bootloader from adb, as I can't connect adb without the phone normal booting. When I boot it just stays at the HTC white screen.
I have flashed twrp recovery from fastboot, but when I give command 'fastboot boot <twrpxxxxx>.img it just boots back to the HTC splash screen
You can go back to complete stock if you rename the RUU file PG86IMG.zip and load onto the root of sd card. Get into bootloader with [power+volume down] and it will automatically detect and load the zip file. This can only be done if you are relocked. I did this in order to get the latest update. After you get back to stock you can unlock and root again.

As I mentioned in earlier post, have tried flashing PG86IMG.zip from bootloader, but still phone doesn't boot properly and is in a bootloop.
You've used the following file and done these exact steps and allowed the phone to boot to full stock OS? (assuming 2.17.651.5 is correct version)
OPTION 2 - RUU.zip info:
I prefer the .exe version but xHausx’s “FULL” PG86IMG_2.17.651.5.zip may work for you (must be renamed PG86IMG.zip). Make sure you have plenty of battery/charge left!
- (XDA) Xhausx full PG86IMG.zip RUU images (651.5 zips)

You will not need any special drivers loaded, etc...
1.Download the stock ROM ZIP image from here: and rename it "PG86IMG.zip"
2.Copy it to SD Card
3.Reboot phone into hboot mode by holding volume down and then press power.
Keep volume down held until you boot into hboot mode.
4.In hboot mode the phone will scan the SD card with the image. Once it finds it will ask you if you want to update. Press "Power" to update.
5.Wait.... For a while. When it gets to "system" it will loop a few times. Its quite nerve wracking actually but after about 5 or 6 times it will complete.
6.Once the entire flash is complete it will prompt you to "press power to reboot." Press power and your phone will reboot to 100% stock ROM.

My friends phone is an EVO LTE and it was rooted with a ROM and TWRP and HBOOT 1.15.
For some reason....He installed the system update from Sprint and rebooted the phone and wiped Cache, Dalvik and System. Then he reset the phone and it got stuck at the HTC bootscreen.
I was able to get into recovery, wiped everything and I tried installing FRESH ROM. It said 'successful' and then rebooted and the screen was just black. I went back into recovery and noticed the status is S-ON.
I downloaded the newest JB RUU but it won't detect the device as I cant boot into the OS.
What do I do?

How?
My knowledge is limited to rooting and flashing ROM packages. On my RAZR there is a program I can run on my computer with the phone in fastboot and then push the RUU file to the phone via the program with the phone in fastboot mode.
I dont know if that is possible on the EVO or if I can do it.
HTC has self contained ruu packages that run themselves. It seems like you just need to flash the kernel separately though. In the android development section (or original development) there is a program there for flashing the kernel. If you want to just run an ruu, there should be links posted in development. There are issues with the new hboot and writing to system partition so try running the ruu for the hboot you already have to avoid any problems

If you already did a factory reset...
All you need to do is fast boot the FreshRom kernel in fastusb mode. Grab boot.img
in fastusb mode in the bootloader do:
fastboot flash boot boot.img

With the phone in bootloader select fastboot. It should say fastboot usb, type fastboot devices to make sure its connected. Open the Rom zip you flashed and extract the boot.img and put it in adb folder. Type fastboot flash boot boot.img and reboot phone. If all went well you should have a working rom

Out of curiosity can you confirm the current HBOOT version?
Also, you need to have the HTC drivers or HTC sync installed for the phone to recognize the computer and go into FASBOOT USB. Otherwise it just stays in fastboot.
I also have had issues using the USB 3.0 ports on my computer, like wise with USB hubs. USB 2.0 directly into the computer.
Outside of that, I'd just load MeanBean and let it handle the flashing of the kernel if I were you. Just make sure you have the latest radios.
I got it!
When I choose FASTBOOT from the Bootloader, it just says FASTBOOT, not FASTBOOT USB.
I then chose the option REBOOT BOOTLOADER and it came back up as FASTBOOT USB.
YAY!
Thanks fellas!

Wow. What timing. You just answered my question. I was thinking about flashing a JB sense ROM (I never use sense, so I wasn't sure about radios). Then it occurred to me, I'm not on the latest firmware and wondered if I needed to be on the latest to run a JB sense ROM.
I've been on JB AOSP for a looong time. I know on my old Evo I always ran new ROM with old radio and it didn't matter, but this device is much more delicate.

Hey, I have htc evo 3d gsm (shooteru). I unlocked the bootloader using htcdev.com and installed clockworkmod recovery. Then I changed cid to HTC__001 and tried to flash a gingerbread ROM in preparation for using the flashmaniac tool to downgrade my hboot (1.53.0007 -> 1.49.0007).
But when I tried to flash the gb rom the recovery said that installation finished but the phone did nothing after reboot. So I took out the battery and went into bootloader and everything looked the same as before the flash attempt. So I tried once again with same result. Then I powered off the phone and now when I turned it on again it only shows the HTC logo for a few seconds and then nothing (the buttons at the bottom have their lights turned on though).
Any ideas?
Yes, hboot version not compatible with gb rom, and or boot partition didn't get flashed. Unlocked but s-on doesn't let boot partition have write if booted into recovery in a normal way.
So yoy can get boot.img from install zip and flash with fastboot
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Or you can reinstall from recovery if booted from fastboot command.
fastboot boot recovery.img

Somehow got it at least to bootloader, no idea how, just tried taking out battery a few times and charging it a bit and it worked.
Thanks for the advice, didn't realize there was a difference between these flashing methods.

I know , it just didn't work for some reason before.
So I flashed the boot.img and now it's stuck in a boot loop. Tried going to cwm recovery and wiping various caches etc and flashing again, and flashing boot.img again but it still goes into boot loop.
I would just use the flashmaniac's tool anyway because I don't care about any data on the phone or anything, but it seems that it requires the phone to be booted before it can start the downgrade.
What should I do? Try to flash other roms maybe? The one that I have now is EU_Shooter_U-1.20.401.8_ROOTED.
So I extracted a rom.zip from a RUU but it won't flash from cwm "Can't open /sdcard/rom.zip (bad)", should I try to flash it with adb/fastboot? I'm worried that the zip may be broken (even though archive manager integrity check says its fine).
Would this work with shooteru/GSM?
[TOOL] Ultimate Recovery Tool 3.1 (Unbrick, Downgrade, VM Radio Fix/Reset)
I'm thinking it might be a way to sidestep the boot loop problem that I have now, just relock the bootloader and follow the instructions until I get HBoot 1.40.something like the guy in the video?
Do I need some special drivers when using the RUU executables on Windows?
So I've got it to work. The problem was what jcfunk said (both of the things he mentioned, actually), I was trying to flash a GB rom when I should have tried an ICS rom instead (lol). After going to ICS RUU, I did the wire trick (unlimited.io) and now everything works nicely and I can get the latest roms.
Glad to hear.
Hi guys. I have a really weird problem especially cause I have successfully done ruu.exe many times without any problems. But now my evo won't boot even after ruu.exe finished succeffully, have tried multiple times. Just to mention that months before I did this ruu, I've installed a custom kernel "MiRaGe" and everything was good, till a couple days ago when I tried to boot into 4ext recovery and it didn't boot at all, tried 3-4 times, no luck, but the rom was working fine. (I haven't tried to boot to 4ext since installing a custom kernel) Now I relocked my phone to install ruu.exe, it finished successfully, but can't boot now. I have also unlocked bootloader again and have flashed recovery and still couldn't boot to recovery. Then I relocked and did ruu.exe again, but still no luck with booting to rom. Also I've tried factory reset in bootloader after finishig ruu.exe and the same thing.

Hboot 1.53.0007
Radio 11.77.3504.00U_11.25.3504.06_M_release_262714_signed

Software version 3.28.401.1
Please help, I need my phone really bad. Thanks.

Well, go into fastboot and unlock the bootloader again, install 4ext recovery (if you cant find the img file I can help you) and install any rom based on sense which will work on hboot 1.53.

Yeah and I've tried "fastboot boot recovery.img" command to boot to recovery, it was success but again the phone restarts. And just to mention that I've also tried cwm recovery but the result is the same.
I suppose that my evo is a true brick now :/

Try 4ext recovery, fastboot install recovery 4extimg.img and after that reboot into recovery. If it enters recovery install a close to stock ics rom, with 4ext smart flash enabled or extract the boot.img from the rom and install it through fastboot (fastboot install boot boot.img).
I can provide you the latest 4ext recovery img, pm me if you need it.

Already did that with 4ext and cwm but none of them won't boot to recovery, but for the rom, i did ruu.exe after flashing recovery (that won't boot) and after relocking, then I unocked bootloader and flashed boot.img from the same ruu.zip, but no results, bootlooping. I think nothing can be done, it's a brick.

You flashed the ruu with the exe though windows or through sdcard? Did you try to remove the sdcard? Try fastboot wipe or format recovery before installing the new img.
