Verizon is allowing me to change my phone due to the unstable platform of ICS. Would you suggest this? Would you suggest going to a Galaxy S 3?

Yes, I would recommend it... but your reasoning is flawed, ICS is not an "unstable platform" at all, in fact your shiny, new SGS3 will have ICS on it and work just fine as well. ICS for the Rezound is perfectly stable and I use it every day on two different Rezounds.

What are you people saying to get them to let you switch? Who did you call? How many replacements have you gone through?
I'm having issues switching from WIFI to 3g-4g It's a known ICS issue. I'm running stock and have never modded. I'm sure there is a version running out there that this has been fixed but HTC has not pushed it out yet. I'm sure you are aware of all of this anyways. Should I stick around and learn to mod?

My work Rezound is bone-stock OTA 3.14.605.12, and every radio is enabled all day, it switches between WiFi (multiple networks), 4G, and 3G all the time (several times a day) and it has never had a problem once. In fact, that phone hasn't even been rebooted or powered off in at least a month and it just works perfect. My personal Rezound is running the Global Mode RUU, no problems with that one either...
BTW, if it is a ICS thing (which it isn't), your SGS3 will have the same problem, it is running ICS as well on Verizon! And knowing VZW, you will likely be waiting months to get JB on that device as well.
I am not trying to talk you out of it, sounds like a good deal to me, the Galaxy S3 is an awesome device... but your reasoning, or the reasoning that was explained to you, is flawed.

This has been my experience as well, though I'm not on the Global RUU, I'm on the previous OTA (though I did run the RUU to address some battery drain problems I had). This phone is absolutely aces for me. I switch between 4G, 3G and wifi several times a day, although I will say that I do restart my phone every two days after I charge it completely.
I played with a friend's GS3 last weekend, and I can honestly say I hated the UI. TouchWiz just sucks in my opinion. The device itself was awesome though, and I'm sure I'd love to have one, though I'd either root it and install a JB rom or get a different launcher.

A question to all those getting to replace the Rezound, with the S3, is Verizon looking to swerve you off true unlimited data in doing so? Sounds to good for Verizon to not have an ulterior motive...

I dont think they are trying to sway us , i kept my unlimited.
There are two things you have go to realize,
a- rezound had massive amounts of problems, they had so many returns , specially after the ics push. its starting to cost them more money
b- they are getting a lot of refurb gs3 back which they are shipping off to rezound customers.

I'm still happy with my Rezound being unlocked and having the ability to S-Off. I've been rooted/unlocked for a while and theo nly problem I have with my Rezound on near stock ROMs is the battery percentage problem dropping form 20% to 14% with the notification. That's a HTC Rezound problem which has been fixed by developers. Other than that my Rezound works perfectly.

Lol I'm right there with you. I bought my first Rezound the day after launch and never had any problems with it. I called Verizon a couple of times early on to see about getting a new battery because mine didn't hold a charge and instead of sending me a new battery they sent me a brand new Rezound with new battery so what the hell, I shipped my original back to them. Have had zero problems with the replacement either.

How long have you had your Rezound? I assume you're still paying for insurance and stuff, if its past the first month?
Guy that are getting the S3 as a replacement be careful I had one of my Rezounds replaced and they sent me a 32gb S3 it was labeled 32gb and everything but when I turned it on it was only 16gb so they sent me another and that one had the same problem even the supervisor I spoke to had that problem with the incorrect memory on his so they ended up just sending me a new in box one. So those getting them check the memory to see if it's correct.

I am pondering which route to take to get to an ics rom. I recently received a refurb unit, and considering i am coming from ground zero, I want to take the most efficient path to ics. I don't know wether to upgrade to the leaked firmware, or should i simply use a rom that is patched to work with the old firmware. I am open to all arguments.

I personally used the leaked firmware since it was radios and all. The patch is to keep your existing radios and PRL version, but to be able to use newer roms. My rezound with the new radios has better coverage than my wife's which has the original from the ota. Since you are already starting from the ground up I say flash the ruu for the leak.
I am using the leaked ICS RUU and it is working fine for me. I also get better coverage with the new radios.
Since you're at square one, I'd install the leaked firmware.
...my $.02

Aren't there fairly serious problems with screen-on CPU usage, though? There are several threads outlining issues with the new firmware. I am using CleanROM 4.3 with the patch, and my battery life is slightly better than it was before. I'd be very wary of flashing the new firmware until the official OTA, or until s-off is achieved.

The on-screen cpu usage is not from the firmware its from the kernel. So whether you are running the patch/old firmware or the new firmware, you have the issue as long as you are running the new kernel.
The new ICS does give pretty outstanding battery life, as long as the screen is off. but as soon as you turn the screen on your battery meter turns into a countdown timer. I can go all night without my phone on charger while I'm asleep and it only uses about 5-8% battery in 8 hours. That's pretty good. But during the day while I'm using it with screen on battery life is garbage and the battery gets really hot.
My suggestion is to stay on the OTA gingerbread as long as you can unless you're just really dying for ICS. Wait for the official ICS update with a better kernel. But if you go with ICS I would use the old firmware and patch method. So it makes it easier to go back.

+1 to that. Until they get s-off setup for everyone I would recommend this as well. I toiled forever on whether to do they leak or not. I saw just as many people saying it helped as hurt. At first I chalked it up to the noob factor but once I saw people that looked like experienced flashers having problems I held off. The roms now have old firmware patches so you can run them without the leak. I've ran Clean Rom, Nils and Bored without any problems at all. I've even been able to run the Sense 4.0 roms using the patch. Battery leaves alittle to be desired on some of them but we don't have sources for kernels so that's to be expected. Just my $.02 but it's your phone and the choice is up to you.

Agreed. Just install the patch.
Another vote for the patch. You can always switch to the leaked firmware if you want in the future but you can't downgrade. I recommend holding off upgrading firmware until S-OFF is released. If you are happy with battery life/signal, etc don't mess with it.
I'm on the patch, working great, got 1 day, 18 hours and 30 min last weekend with 19% left. Of course that is very light use but I have never seen that before. I have no problems with coverage or radios
Thanks for all of your pragmatic input. I've upgrade to the leaked firmware on multiple devices, and was tempted to do the same to this one. You guys pretty much reinforced my feelings of trepidation and resovle to obstain from going as far away from Stock gingerbread as possible. It just lowers my inhibitions with its uglyness when placed side by side with my old device running ics. Battery life is paramount though.

I concur... This new leak seems to be a quagmire of sorts with an inscrutable connotation with it's apocryphal results. I show no vexation in calamitous consummations, due to acquiring s-off. Assuming that s-off comes in a near term time-frame. We don't all have an extra Rezound to play with, and constantly tweak to work as a daily driver. It's perfectly reasonable to wait for s-off.

I, too, am curious about what software issues you are having. The only software issue I have come across so far is compatibility with Google Voice, but that is solely a Verizon thing and applies to all VZW Android devices, and there is a relatively easy workaround.
I have been running Eclipse 1.3 since purchasing my Razr, however, and the Eclipse ROMs are known for being very stable and better than stock. This may be why I haven't come across any software issues.
Or, on the flip-side of that last comment, all of the custom ICS ROMs have known bugs. Are you running a custom ROM, or stock Moto?
I too am on the fence about buying a razr. I found one locally for 250 box and all. I won't lie I'm a little worried that I might not like it because lack of support. And after seeing this post I leaning towards not getting it. What didn't you like about it?

I have a regular RAZR. To be frank this is my tipping point:
1. Bluetooth streaming sucks. This is a big deal to me. I have "stutters" when streaming music to my car stereo. It wasn't present with the Atrix I had before. I updated my deck's bluetooth firmware. No improvement. This likely a software radio fix required.
2. Bluetooth sound quality is tinny. Using my phone with a bluetooth device makes sound quality tinny. This got worse lately.
3. Lackluster battery life. This is a hardware limitation.
4. Poor wifi performance. This again is likely hardware.
5. ICS would be nice. But it isn't why i want to rid of it. It took up to 2 weeks ago to get an OTA to 2.36. That fix in my opinion improved nothing.
The Maxx addresses the battery concern i had. But it doesnt address my other concerns.
I honestly find this phone to be a step backwards from the Atrix it replaced. Too bad. This is a device that looks amazing. It just is too quirky for me.

Agreed. I can honestly say this is the best phone I've owned or seen. (Maxx, I wouldn't touch an OE Razr for any money)
Just chipping in my two cents here, if anyone wants to know.
I picked up my Razr two days ago from Verizon. I had a local carrier that did NOT work at all when I moved, and I needed a new phone. I was pretty attached to my xperia play, but not enough to buy another, plus, I wanted a 4G phone. I kinda searched around the forums at some of the others, and eliminated all but the Rezound, the Thunderbolt, and the Razr. A friend of mine had the Thunderbolt, and had good things to say about everything but the battery life, and a friend of his was absolutely in love with the Rezound. The Verizon rep, however, was absolutely in love with her razr, and gave me 100 dollars off on it, so, being cheap, I took it, opened the box, went to XDA, and realized... there are no ROMs for the CDMA Razr. Couple of seconds of freaking out, and I stumbled on droidrazr's website, and got it running with an AOKP/Axi0m kang, and then with Gummy. The device is wicked responsive, the signal quality with Verizon is second to none, and pretty much everything is perfect with the world (though I've found the device is easier to hold upside down in certain situations) I don't know of the google voice issue, unless you're talking about the voicemail integration, in which case its no issue at all, as voicemails come straight to your GV inbox. My last Moto was a Backflip, and I swore never again to Motorola.... now I'm glad I went back on it... though battery life could use a little oomph... good thing I have an external pack.
GV is pretty easy to fix. I use it as my voicemail. Can call it by pressing 1 or open the app and listen to my VM. Sorry off topic but an easy fix

I have a JVC r80bt and bluetooth streaming never has had a hiccup. Connecting and pairing happen quickly from car start- up. Perhaps it is your deck's bluetooth adapter, or bluetooth version.
On the eq, again mine is pretty spot on. I
noticed bass was a bit saturated, but eq that out.
Wifi performance never noticed issues, but ics could alter performance if they tweak hardware drivers.

Can't blame you. RAZR is the worst high-end Android phone I have ever used - and I've used a lot more than I've owned.
Given how badly Moto screwed everyone with this device - first by releasing the MAXX so quickly after the original, then by refusing to unlock the bootloaders, then by releasing a completely separate 'developer edition', and finally with the delayed release of the ICS update, I am honestly surprised there are so many Motorola apologists. Bizarre.
Even more bizarre is how much I love the Electrify I downgraded to when I couldn't stand the RAZR's terrible battery life and nasty, yellowed screen any longer. Ho-hum. At least the Chinese 4.0.4 release is pretty good.

2.) Haven't tried it
3.) I really don't get many calls on my phone, but use it for everything else. Battery last all day majority of the time. Once in a while I'll only make it 8-10 hours before I have to charge it.
4.) I get great WiFi (Pic was taken before I went to ICS)

Oh, guys, re: bluetooth streaming, it doesn't suck. Quite the contrary. Gave it a good testing over the weekend. RAZR is one of the first phones to support apt-X, aka lossless bluetooth streaming up to ~320k. Recommend trying it with a BT4.0 headset if you've not already. Bests the One X quality-wise when using apt-X, too.

Ive had my s3 for 2 weeks now and I look at my s2 and think what a waste.
Don't get me wrong the phone is amazing and is top spec at the moment but im now having doubts that it is a massive difference than my s2.
Now I don't need you to reply with all what its got cos I know all about it.. But I think that there just isn't enough change in the software to make it exciting?
Ie the video that you can have open while your texting? Have you used it? Yes the full screen is ok for watching a movie on the train ect but do you really need to multi task that badly?
Before you start to get all defensive I love Samsung Ive had all 3 now but I really think I can live without the small plus points of the s3?! Notification light is ace and the battery life but other than that? Can't say im to fussed.
Because we are lucky enough to be able to change the look of the phone being android it looks the same as the s2 and no doubt I can make the s2 look like the s3. When I get a new phone I want it to stand out from the older models and be new and have visual differences.
So im thinking of selling up and going back to my s2 until something comes out that will make me happy.
What do you think?

Dude, don't change phone within 3years because you will never find any big difference. All the phones in this world only have small incremental upgrade every 5-6 months. People change phone every year simply because they are spoiled enough to spend recklessly or they are just too rich and boring or they just want to prove they are tech geek.

I actually half agree with you... In my opinion I prefer the size of the S2 compared to the S3 (just a matter of getting used to i guess). In terms of normal daily usage, there isnt too much of a difference in terms of speed (however the S2 obviously has had a lot more time for development etc) and this will probably change in the coming months as developers work their magic for the S3. The battery and LED light are great additions as mentioned though so far it hasn't seemed to be major upgrade (not that I really expected it to be). While im not going to ditch my S3 (love having the latest and greatest) I do understand those that have 'upgraded' from a S2 and would prefer that few hundred dollars instead.
Also the audio quality was rather mediocre on the S2 unlike the S3 - another reason ill be keeping the S3.

It depends. I've come from an S2 and I do like the touchwiz UI. One of the reasons I haven't switched over to AOKP is because it's the same look along all platforms and then it just feels like I'm still using the S2. Do what you feel like but i suggest you hold on to the S3 simply because it's the newer one.

Although the GS3's by far the best smartphone i've ever used, yes, i'm thinking about ditching it and getting the Note back - mainly because of the poor standby battery it gets with my network.
And yes, i've tried all roms and modems, kernels, hacks and rests - and 2 different GS3's - but it just does NOT play well with my network. Screen time remains good when used at a stretch.
it's vital i stay connected to my work email at all times on data. Too many fast dormancy related wakelocks + moderate use = Dead battery at the end of the workday - compared to around 40 to 50% battery left with identical usage on the same SIM with the Note.
Going to wait another month or so for possible modems with better compatibility but it doesn't look good and i hate reverting to my painful-to-use 4S to get me through the day.
PS: just reiterate, i am not making a generalization about the GS3's better, just relating what i experience with my network.
Yeah. it's awfully buggy, and I can't do things I took for granted anymore... mainly the phone is so poor at meaningful multitasking that music whist browsing causes horrendously regular cut outs. I think s2 is a better phone - I'd go back if it wasn't for being embarrassed at accepting that I chose a duff new phone (plus my missus has the s2)

Nope, had hardly any problems with mine and I love the features like s voice, smart stay. They're great.

Im begining to think getting my S3 was abit of an impulse buy,id only just got a HTC sensation XE which imo is a very good phone, and tbh im thinking that i didnt need a S3
some of the things on this samsung drive me crazy, the screen tint,no mass storage mode, trying to drag photos or videos off the phone is a mare because of the lack of thumbnails,i really hate that !
There doesnt seem much i can do on the S3 that i couldnt do on the XE,the only added feature of the s3 ive really made use of is the taking photo shots while recording video,im going to keep the S3 but getting abit of buyers remorse now lol
Upgrading every fow months or even once a year is a mugs game, only the phone manufacturer wins, coming from the Desire HD its well worth upgrading but if I had the S2 I dont know, its far from obsolete, dont think id be disappointed though
Well im glad im not the only one. Oh and the zero shutter lag is great but I can live without it

Maybe I'll give it a go - though I'd rather use a browser that handles flash. Annoying that pure stock just doesn't work though..
Cheers for replying by the way - my posts have mostly been a bit grumpy on here of late!

It's understandable being grumpy when you have a problem with such a premium device
I use Chrome and Spotify and they don't crash at all. I tend to use mobile versions of sites but do occasionally use full ones.
This is on wifi, not sure if it makes a difference over the network. I'll have to try it.

I figured this is what they would do, and honestly I dont mind as long as they get on the ball and release it quickly even if the quickly is only to the international version because at least then we will get a port quickly while we wait on Big Red.

Yes, but with quite a bit of issues and none of the Touchwiz features (Not going to argue if that is a good or a bad thing).
I think most users root to get back to a stock feel, leaving behind TW, etc. As for this nightly, it's stable enough for a dd. After last night's build, the only major issue seems to be the graphical glitches that happen in Gmail and a few other apps. Battery life and overall performance doesn't seem to be an issue.
Users waiting for an official 4.3 TW could be waiting a long time.

I've been a big aosp guy for a while but coming to this phone I am really digging TW. Always heard so much hate on it. Makes stock android feel so plain. Not trying to start a debate but I am excited to here that this phone will eventually get the 4.3 update.

In your opinion, how is the in call volume? thats the major thing keeping me away from ASOP because I use the phone for work and to make calls almost all day
The volume is great now. The maintainer has merged an audio fix and is now a permanent part of the build. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2406788&page=17

Call volumes were really loud. My biggest problem when I played with 4.3 was the graphical glitches. Call me superficial, but they are very annoying and when trying to use logmein ignition, it was unusable because of them.

I agree that the graphical glitches in 4.3 are annoying but if nobody uses the roms and reports issues and the possible things that trigger them then they will never improve. By the way, what rom were you running?

the paranoid android 4.3, build from last week or so. The graphical glitches apparently are across all aosp ROMs so I don't think its something that will be fixed soon.

I'm running 4.3 and the graphics are the only downside, but someone posted a fix for GPU rendering on page 22 of that thread. Volume and GPS worked great right off the bat.

Found a good deal on a new HTC One at Best Buy, with ATT. I have old gift cards to use, can get it for nothing.
Anyways, can a brand new One through ATT carrier still be rooted easily ? Has their be new firmware released to prevent root ?
I would want to flash the Google Play Edition ROM on it.
I had an international One X last year, and that thing was a frigging nightmare for flashing ROMs and kernels, it sucked balls, always having to use fast boot crap and command prompt with .bootimg crap. I'm dine with that nightmare, why can't phones be like the good old days. Root it, install recovery and be done, and on your way to flashing Roms in a blink of an eye.
Anyways. Opinions please.

You're kidding right it's not at all the same.
To the OP yes unlock boot loader via htc dev and flash recovery, then flash whatever Rom you want from this section or you can also use roms from the international section.

Thank you. Yeah I was sick of that One X bull crap. Just got ridiculous.
Last two phones I had, the Nexus 4, and Note 2 on ATT, were easy as pie to root and install recovery, and that was it, you were done forever, just flash a ROM + Kernel, reboot and bam you had a fresh new ROM to enjoy, and was so easy and fast to do get it installed, was a no brainer. What happened in the past year with phones being so locked down so hard, where you can't just do that anymore ?
Wish all Android phones were as simple as a Nexus to flash rom's on. But I don't want the Nexus 5 phone with tiny battery, I like bigger batteries or removable, and more storage options, etc...

So if I get a brand new ATT HTC One on sale at Best Buy, it won't be locked down hard like ATT did to the Galaxy S4 with MF3 firmware ? That S4 is screwed as as ever getting recovery, or installing new ROM's.
On the One, I'd like to try the GPE edition ROM. Plus the speakers are great, I like to do a lot of loud speaker phone calls, and watch videos in loud places sometimes.
Just worried about crappy battery life. Can the One go 5h On Screen time, or no way ?

No it won't be locked down
The speakers really aren't that loud, just extremely clear.
And if you're ready for it to die in that amount of time, it can probably make it up to 5 hrs but that depends on your usage.

Can the HTC One running the GPE ROM get this kind of battery life ?
I was on my S4 pretty hard today, all day and night long, surfing the web, reading XDA, watching YouTube, sending tons of texts, keeping up with the sports scores on my favorite teams playing today, using Sportstacular a lot.
I think almost 6h On Screen time is really good, and blows away my Nexus 4, which was getting around 3.5h to 4h On Screen time. Wonder how well the Nexus 5 will do On Screen time when hammering on the phone all day and night ?

Maybe you can get about 4 1/2 to about 5 hours of screen time. It also depends on your use too.

this is my first android phone, and I was able to unlock and root it easily. Just had a problem with super user binaries not being installed, which was fixed with installing a different version of superuser.
