We can turn off the phone even from the lock screen, so these kind of apps are pretty much useless?
If they have some knowledge, they can even wipe our phone from recovery mode.

No competition here, just get Cerberus, why you ask?
1.You can inject it into the system rom using a using a zip from recovery, will never be removed until phone is flashed, or you decide to remove it, immune to factory reset.
2.You can specify 3 phone numbers that can control your phone via sms commands in case there is no data connection.
3.Notifies you when an unauthorized sim is used and sends you (usually) the new sim number, always will send you the new sim serial number and carrier info.
4.Can be totally hidden and u only can bring it up using a dialer number.
5.You can remotely control your phone cameras, microphone, shoot videos, wipe data, lock screen, activate emergency calls only mode, shut data off, turn it on, and wipe the phone or the sd.

I'm trying to find a locking app similar to the lock on my iPad, when the phone is rebooted or sleep for more the 2 hours the iPad requires a code to unlock. But during normal use it's just normal unlocking. Anybody know of a Android app that would be similar?
Thought my note slipped out my pocket the.other afternoon while working on my truck and didn't realize I didn't have it till later that night, the last time I used it was outside my apartments with my truck and I automatically thought it fell and somebody found it and took it. Tried to call it but it just kept going straight to voicemail so that definitely made me think it was stolen since my.phone wasn't off before. But I.found it later under the seat in my truck haha. I want a.locking app so if it does get taken and the person turns it off and tried to turn it back on then it will ask for a code and lock them out

I don't know if it supports 2 hours as an interval, but the stock rom does this. Home, menu, settings, security, I think. Somewhere in there is the option to set the time after which your PIN will be requested.

A while back I lost my streak and I'd call it and it ring and go to voice mail except once someone rejected the same call and I knew someone had it. Lookout has an app that's called plan b that you can install remotely and will activate your gps so you can find it. Long story short I retrieved my streak and the guy who took it and wouldn't return it ended up with a broken car window. I also believe there's an app out there that'll completely lock your phone down too. Check lookout's suite of software, they may have something for you

Try out Cerberus it can remotely take pictures using the front or back camera and it emails the picture to you, bad guys face is there and also can use the back camera to figure out where they are. GPS locator remotely wipe SD and phone memory and also can set up other people's numbers (that you trust obviously) that you can send a wipe message to your phone from as well through text.
And its only $4 for a lifetime license.
I can't purchase any apps, it never authorizes the payment. I've tried removing the current credit card and adding a new one, but that didn't work.

+1 for this post
like this idea:good:
Installing apps from the market won't work, because I think you'd have to activate the app by starting it first. Apps dont start after install automatically as far as i know.
Take your IMEI number and receipt of purchase to the police. In theory, they can track it aswell (only by cell tower triangulation, not by gps). Depends on your country and local police if they would actually do that.
Plan b should work... it's designed to activate on installation so it starts tracking straight away.
If you don't get an email from it straight away... send an sms saying "locate" and it should reactivate the tracking

Just keep trying. Eventually it'll work.
It makes sense to turn the phone off after you've stolen it so it can't be tracked. Eventually the thief will have to turn it on, whether he's selling it or checking it out.
Good luck :good:

Yes. It's the bad news that sell to the people, not the good ones... And it's also interesting to find out, if one can get he's smartphone back by using these tracking apps. Now we can find out if they're useless or not.
Hope Plan B works for you. Bring a baseball bat and a few friends when you track the thief down.
And when you do have your phone back, install Cerberus on it right away, it's a fantastic anti theft app with a great web control center and tons of features.
Plan B vs. Android Lost, which one is better?

Why? "burgle" is a standard English verb that you'll find in any dictionary. Don't really get why it's worth loling at.
Anyway, I tried it (and by "it" I mean everything) when I lost my i9000. To no avail unfortunately.
The problem with all those apps is they need internet. If the thief doesn't connect it to wifi or the mobile data.... And most thieves will steal it only to immediately sell it so why would they. Odds are the person who buys it will wipe it, and then unfortunately, nothing can be done.
When it became apparent the thief hadn't sold my phone (yet), I left my account open for as long as possible, hoping they'd turn on mobile data. But when the calls to Romania started adding up I had to have it cancelled and lost all hope. Hope you have better luck.
Now that I'm thinking about it, it would be a good idea if Samsung Dive could turn data on by an alternative means like an SMS. Because as useful as any such services may be, they're all near-worthless if they have no data connection - indoors getting a lock with AGPS is difficult. Without data its next to impossible. At least with data you're guaranteed to get at least the approximate location based on cell towers and wifi.
Oh well
Hello i recently lost my Galaxy Player in my school May 17th, 2013 and i had no way to find its location. Until May 19, 2013 I installed the app by Lookout called "Plan B" it was installed on my Device threw a WIFI connection. Since the player is not a Phone i kinda use it like a Phone threw Google Voice and Groove IP lite. Since its installed, It didn't send me an Email on its location. I used a friends phone to send "Locate" SMS. Is it because its a MP3 player instead of a phone?
Is it possible to retrieve the device?
Unless someone turns on the device(somehow gets past security if you have it) connects to wifi then you are screwed. Of course I am sure if someone found it they have restored the device by now . Can you not ask if someone turned a lost mp3 player or something? Sorry to hear what happened man.

is there anything she can do to try to locate it?
We also have the box it came in with the serial code and receipt. Thinking about turning it in to police...

sorry to say but if someone stole it, it is most likely not at the school anymore.
the only options that are most likely not going to lead to anything are
1. latitude is activated and it has updated her location recently
2. you have a lost phone app installed and set up. installing it via google play will do nothing at all.
if nothing like that is good. i would say the serial # to police is probably your best option at this point only because if the person who stole it knows what they are doing, they could have easily factory reset it already.
sorry and i hope you find it :fingers-crossed:

"Yes darling I'm sure I can fix it, just look at all the posts on XDA that we have fixed - easy"
Turns out that no amount of downgrading is going to get the IMEI to return as it sitting there just fine, winking at me and laughing quietly, in a mocking sort of way.
So is there any way to get a sim card to work?, should I take the back off? should I on sell it? should I just give it to the Mrs as is?
