You'd probably find, that you've got Android ICS (4.0.4) which is what the phone came with.
That is how everyone is feeling.
Jelly Bean is still being developed and is not as stable as ICS, and that is why you have to root your device and flash a custom ROM, to the phone to get Jelly Bean. Other than that, your phone is pretty much up-to-date, seeming as ICS is the latest stable build, for the Samsung Galaxy S III, worldwide (Sammy)..
I'd suggest getting your phone rooted/flashed and that you choose a custom ROM, you find your phone much more attractive, then

As in branded GS3?? If that's what it means then NO
Then just flash an up to date Rom with Odin, or a jb leak and be ahead of official

No need for CAPS, IS THERE?!
Right, maybe it's because there AREN'T any, that are compatible with your providers.. So, get a custom ROM, that way, you're pretty much always up-to-date.. And before you get snippy, calm down and actually state, what you want AND need..

Stock rom does not void warranty .
Custom rom or root does void warranty but can be removed .
Ask phone provider for your update or use CHECKFUS .,
Sim Locked does not mean branded it means locked to a carrier .

Hello, so my question is what is the latest firmware update? Mine is I9300XXLF2 and its the one that i got the phone with. The kernel version is from 5th of june. A colleague of mine has the same phone from the same store bought 4 days after mine, and he got 2 updates till now (his basebrand version is I9300XXLH1) and the kernel version is from the beginning of august. And there are noticeable differences between our phones. Why does he get updates and I don't? Is there a way to force the updates, because I what the phone to be up to date for jelly bean?

Latest firmware varies by vendor and country .
Ask your vendor why no update .
Baseband is not firmware .
Have you actually connected to KIES for an update .

https://twitter.com/samkiesupdates has a pretty nice overview of what phones have Kies updates available.
It really is out!
JellyBean really is out but the bluddy thing won't install for me!!!
See screenshot here for confirmation- http://i45.tinypic.com/160al46.jpg
I tried to install it last night via my Windows 8 and Windows 7 laptops and I have now tried it on my Windows 7 pc at work but it just won't happen!
I get occasional errors that it couldn't get admin rights from the phone, and now it seems to be Kies itself that's knackered with KiesPDLR crashing.
I got my phone from Mobi-city.co.uk. It came from Hong Kong but seems to be the European version. None of this should matter though, as if Kies is offering me the firmware then surely it has recognised that my phone is one of the ones that should get it!
Really annoyed!!!
well that poland seems like test 1

Thanks. I just found a forum with other users experiencing exactly the same as me, so at least I know enough to get on with the rest of my life. ah well, false alarm on the JellyBean front. Sorry folks.
Thanks everyone. You guys cleared my doubts i knew i could count on xda and its members.
Should be this month, apparently... although it's hardly the first rumour with a confirmation from Sammy with no official release date.

I dont know if this polish version is really an official but i have been using jelly bean on a note II and ny feeling is that it is smoother and less bug in the note II

Apparently the Polish version is a test release, (release candidate) I would assume there is a note in the terms and conditions stating it may contain bugs. not 100% sure on this.
So we could get that exact same version when it eventually rolls out to the rest of the EU, or it could be a bug fix version, either way it's obviously close to a full EU release and nothing much will be different if anything.
Personally I'm just waiting for the official EU release, but if you can't wait, there's no harm in installing the Polish version (providing you follow the relevant directions of course)
i also have the I9300XXLH1 baseband and no new updates i realy hope the final jb rom will have the multi tasking that the note II got 2 days ago

But I did not say it's true, just quoting...
Quite some time ago I rooted my S2 to get it unlocked. I then shortly after unrooted and flash ICS onto it when it was first due to be released. Ever since it does not ever find any updates.
Can anyone help with why this may be?
whin ics was firsted released from this site was never considered official, just leaked firmware. OTA updater will not recognize leaked software it is not stock, it was modified slightly.
You would need to find a stock ics which was releaed about mid 2012. Flash that and OTA should work.

I have an "update" that keeps popping up on my new GS3 on SFR and I don't want to do anything unless it's JB. But I was told you could only really get the update through Kies and I really don't want to install that program.

Like you, I never use KIES. I think this update (JB on SFR) is available OverTheAir. Connect your phone on WiFi and check via Settings/About devices/Firmware update. Lot of improvements on JB. It is very smoth operating system compare to ICS. You can update via ODIN if it's not available OTA. (Official ROM doesn't increase the counter).
Another way although a little harder.... you could download the Rom of Sam's firmware and flash it via Odin. If you have a mac or linux computer you could use a virtual machine considering you have the hardware or you could use a friends PC
Hope this helps

Actually, since I wanted to get rid of bloatware, I was thinking of just ignoring this update and finding myself a JB ROM that is more Vanilla perhaps or at least stock GS3 or Nexus.
I've got a Galaxy S2. I'm in the U.K and the phone is not network locked, still waiting for 4.1? Anyway to push it through OTA?

Not until they put out an official UK release of 4.1.2. Just flash one of the available ones from the development section or using ODIN for an official release, just change your CSC if you really need to
If you dont know what you are doing, you should just wait for the official UK one to come out.
