[Q] Unable to change APN settings on CM10 Rom from Jokersax - Motorola Photon 4G

I'm trying to set up my Photon on the Cincinnati Bell network. I'm going to Wireless & Networks, Mobile Networks, and trying to find the options to change the APN settings here but the option isn't available.
Phone is rooted and unlocked. Running Jokersax's CM10 rom, I popped in the sim card from my Cincinatti Bell phone and while it makes calls the texting doesn't work.

ok heres an easy way to this this on any android. i like using elixr2 app to access menus that arent avail in the roms. like this. remeber that in order for an app to write and change system settings like apn's then that app must be a system app. an easy way to convert apps to system or user apps is something like rom toolbox the last picture shows the options menu for installed apps.

[Possible Fix] - Adfree for Atrix Workaround - Seems to Work!

*** Disclaimer ***
First things first... If you like the app, and there is a paid version or donate, then BUY IT or DONATE!
Second, Adfree was always there, but now (at least for me) it is working on the Atrix.
Whenever possible -> Support your Developers!!!
(also while this fix is intended to be safe, I'm not responsible if you mess up your phone)
</disclaimer>
What You'll Need:
(All available in the Android Market for free)
Adfree
CacheMate for Root Users
Cache Cleaner NG
Background:
I have a Bell phone with a AT&T SIM. On my phone, Adfree only works with WiFi and does not work on my Data Connection.
This fix is intended to work on BOTH WiFi and Data. --> I know others have posted about this same issue happening to them as well.
This should hopefully work for both Bell and AT&T users.
Actual Instructions:
In my APN's (Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names) I have the following AT&T settings: (this will be different for Bell)
AT&T US (Default selected)
AT&T US HSDPA (More on this one later)
AT&T US Tether
AT&T US MMS
--> On my phone, whenever I use the default "AT&T US" setting, ads will always show up.
1.) First things first, create your Custom APN so you can access data and still block ads.
AT&T User APN Settings
Bell User APN Settings
Make sure you SAVE your settings after you type them in.
2.) Select "AT&T US HSDPA" (This will be different for Bell, but choose the "HSDPA" setting)
When you choose this setting, it basically puts your phone into airplane mode. You have a connection, but you can't access the internet.
3.) (may be unnecessary, but do this anyway) Open up an app that has ads with the HSDPA setting still being used. Ads should be currently blocked.
4.) With the "HSPDA" setting still being used, clear your cache by first running
"CacheMate for Root Users", then run "Cache Cleaner NG".
5.) Reboot your phone with HSPDA still selected.
6.) After your phone is rebooted, go into your APN list and choose your custom APN that you made in step 1.
Give it a try, you should hopefully be blocking ads in most of your apps and also in your browser...
Hopefully this workaround works for BOTH carrier phones!...
Can't you just use the custom hosts file that is included in Gladiatrix, etc? It blocks all the ads on my Atrix.

Tried the custom hosts route already, and it didn't work. Basically the Default APN is the issue, and overwrites any hosts file in there. Just a strange issue that was never a problem on my other Android devices.
A bunch of other people here were having the same problem, which is why I wrote this up...

Icic. Ok. Fair enough. I wasn't knocking your method, I was just offering another.......which apparently doesn't work lol.

Never took it that way at all.
The custom hosts file placement, "should make sense", (I've done it successfully with my other phones) but then again some things with the Atrix just "doesn't make sense".
Anywhoo... I'm just glad to finally get this problem resolved. This issue was almost my dealbreaker for a while, and has bought me a little bit more time. Hopefully Bell can finally give us an update or two already...
You said the ATT HSPA APN or whatever basically puts your phone in Airplane mode? I've been on that APN since I got the phone, and everything has seemed to work properly... ?
Sorry, this is sort of unrelated to the Adfree app (which I'll gladly try later!! I cant' seem to get rid of ads either). I just noticed that and thought it was weird lol...

That is weird because using that mode completely cuts off my data.
But at least it gives me a better method of cleaning the cache.
BTW if that is indeed the case for you, try putting the phone into "Airplane mode" instead for Steps 2 through 5...
2.) Select "AT&T US HSDPA" (This will be different for Bell, but choose the "HSDPA" setting)
Where is this HSDPA setting ??

Which settings do you have?...

I don't understand the question. Which settings do I have where ? I have lots of settings LOL !!
edit: I think I know what you mean now. You have 4 APN's listed ( default ). I only have the one ( well, two now that I have created the new one )

OK interesting... try using "Airplane mode" instead for steps 2 through 5 in my OP...

Under network settings I have data roaming, select network, operator selector and access point names.
Under access point names, I have Bell-Internet ( the default one ) and Bell ( the one I created ). If I press the menu button I can create an APN or reset to default.

Well, I'll have to report back later. I seem to be having a data connection issue ( which I am sure is weather related ). My brain is starting to think that this won't work for me anyway. I think that this might be a Bell sim issue. I also think that by you cleaning out your cache and removing all traces of Bell ( APN-wise ) that solved the problem for you. we'll see what happens when I get my data back.
Well the skies cleared and data returned ( I am a bit rural ). No luck, ads remain.
Until yesterday ADFREE was blocking all ads. After the upgrade stopped. The ads are appearing as if nothing block then.
This occurs in both wifi and 3G (Tim - Brazil)
Any solution ?
AT&T US HSDPA is my default APN as well. It was the one selected when I first turned on my phone.

settings > wireless and network > mobile network > access point names > t-mobile
apn type: internet and mms
under access point names its blank. I can add a new apn but im not sure what all to add as far as proxy, port, user name, pass, server, ect...
edit: I got it to work thank you.
Also lost Data after flashing Wifi Calling app ...can't change settings in Mobile networks
think I've lost baseband...(whatever that means...basically phone won't recognize a sim card is loaded) is there a way to fix this without Oding ?
Does the phone say there's no SIM card inserted? If so, run to any T-mobile store and ask for a new SIM.
Also, I was having data issues two days ago. I keep a copy of the KB5 modem that's flashable in Recovery. Just re-flash and all was good.
T-mobile APN address:
epc.tmobile.com
Wish I could attach the KB5 file for ya, but I can't. Just search for it.

[Q] Configuration Messages on CM10

Hello,
My network operator uses configuration message to let you use Mobile Data
so i sent a message to 250 with the word "set" as i always did on the Samsung Stock Rom
but with the CM10, I didn't receive anything
and in the message app on the samsung stock rom when i click the menu button, there was an option for managing Configuration Messages
but that's seems to be missing on CM10
{Q} Is CM10 able to use Configuration message somehow or what ?!
The point of the configuration messages is so that you can install the APN settings for the particular carrier you're on. CM10 will automatically install the APN settings for your carrier (unless you're on a ridiculously obscure carrier) so there's no need for the configuration messages.
Are you getting a data connection? If you are, a then all good. If not, check your APN settings and see what's happening there.

No, I don't get any connection without that configuration message
and Where is that APN settings ?!
Settings then more settings then mobile network then access point
Andrew have you seen where the default CM APN's don't cover a given carrier? I've been on a pretty obscure carrier with custom ROM and still been fine...

Iv never had problem with apns till I stuck a different Sim in a stock Rom.

[Q] Re GSM and APN settings

This isn't really a problem. It's just a question out of curiosity...aimed at the guys who tear down ROMs on a regular basis, or whoever else might know.
Okay so here's my scenario. I have a Verizon Note 2 which I use here in the Caribbean on a GSM network. Most of the time I use ATT or N7105 roms (without the ATT/n7105 modems of course) since I'm using a GSM network.
Whenever I use ATT/N7105 roms, my phone automatically retrieves APN settings for internet and mms from my carrier.
When I use Verizon ROMs like I am right now, I never receive these APN and MMS settings automatically.
I know my APN settings but it's convenient having it retrieved automatically when I switch sim cards.
What part of the ROM is it that allows this to happen when I'm using ATT roms?
Is it something in the build.prop that I'm missing? CSC settings or something else?

Well for the 1% that might be interested I figured out the answer. It turns out the ATT and N7105 roms apn-conf.xml file had my carrier's apn/mms settings.
So just replacing that file in my Verizon rom got my settings added automatically.

No data on CM12.1 with Straight Talk

Alrighty, heres my situation. i havnt been up to date with the Spyder community lately so i might of missed something but i need some suggestions. I decided to give my Uncle my Droid Razr so to keep him updated with software, i installed Safestrap (3.75), formatted the system, installed latest cm12.1 nightly, activated a mini cdma sim from straight talk and everything is running smoothly. the only problem i have is 3g/lte is not showing up. I get a signal bar with an ! beside them. i checked on straight talk website and it said i didnt need to modify verizons apn for straight talk but with Cyanogenmod, it gives you every carrier option under the son so what all should i have set to get a data signal? calling and texting works but no data.
i was gonna say screw it and rsd lite back to original moto firmware but looks like the rsd website is down.
I also have a verizon towered straight talk sim.
When I switched to my Droid 4 data came instantly.
When I switched to my Note 4 it took about 24 hours.
When I switched to the Razr Xt912 it was not happening right away. What I believed helped was switching over to the stock Rom and waiting utnil things activated. Took a bit. Could still take up to a day.
The only main issue I found is no LTE on any of the custom Roms. At least 4.4 and probably 5.0+
oh wow, i managed to get 1x to kick in but thats a 5kb data connection enough for mms

Go to setting, then mobile networks and place a check mark next to "Global". Re-boot and see if that helps. You can also try resetting the APN to default or manually set the APN for Straight Talk

Straight Talk offers a BYOP SIM card unlock, dont they??, also, if your using "Straight Talk", then you cant use Verizon APN
EDIT: Does it work properly if you boot into the stock ROM???, 3G, LTE and SMS??. If it does, then while in the stock ROM, manually copy the APN settings and then boot into CM 12 and manually copy/edit them while in CM 12.
EDIT 2: I dont use "Straight Talk" but I just saw this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a76Zi7HVy6A, see if this is of any help

i dont have the stock rom any more. BYOP is what i did. activated a cdma straight sim card and access point. I dont have access to the rsd files anymore. i did flash cm10 to see if the android version made a difference and nothing. APN should be the same from stock.

Look in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-razr/general/index-motorola-droid-razr-development-t3023837. This will have everything you need to flash back to stock, root then use safestrap to boot into Stock ROM or custom ROM on the fly. The link I provided will also have links to RSD Lite
