How to flash OTA flash files downloaded from samfirmware? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
How should I flash the OTA flash files downloaded from Samfirmware?? Should I use ADB?? If yes, can anyone tell me the commands??
I normally flash phones with SPT/RIFF box, so I am a bit rusty in ADB
Kind regards

I'd say use Odin. But just to be sure, Check the stickies in the general forum. Use the search if not sure.

Hi!
Just use odin to flash the firmware.. i'm pretty sure most of the fw would just be on PDA in odin.

If you are talking about OTA and not the full firmware..it has to be flashed in stock recovery...first make sure you have the correct firmware version on your phone..the firmware version required will be given alongside the OTA on samfirmware..now move the OTA to your sdcard..reboot into stock recovery..use vol up+power+home buttons..then choose install update from there..

I need to do this. I'll do a Titanium Backup before, but should I expect all my content, apps, preferences and all that to be intact after the procedure (presuming everything goes the way it should)?
Edit: Also, why can't I see an option for United States in the drop-down menu when narrowing down my device? Should I use some other country?

And do you know what this ota files are used for? I've an S5830 from Vodafone(Spain) and I want to get it back to the original firm (you know, operator apps and some more innecesary ****), but I'm unable to find one on the internet.
Looking at www.samfirmware.com, the only thing I've seen about my device and Vodafone is the OTA file i'm talking about, but I'm not pretty sure if flashing it will let my phone in factory defaults.
I need to flash a Vodafone rom because I wanna send it to the technical support.

Find a Vodafone Spain Rom, it should be over 200mb, then download Odin for your galaxy ace, it should be in the ace forum. Then flash it. Check the link below.

Also in SF are others operators roms for s5830, but not from vodafone.

Ok im tired now. When download finished extract the zip with password samfirmware.com.

Click pda and select the code_i9100... file
Click phone and select the modem_... File
Click csc and select the gt_i9100-csc-multi... File.
Put the s2 into download mode (google) (be sure you installed samsung usb software and updated it via windows update)
When connected a yellow box will appear and the pc will recognize it.
Ensure you have enough battery and click start.
Dont disconnect the phone this could really brick it.
When done it will reboot and work. If it worked, don't forget to say thank you!

Anyone Flashed Sweeden or Singapore Non carrier firmware onto their i9305?

http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-I9305&pcode=0&os=1&type=1
Seems to be a few new firmwares up, Singapore and Sweeden dont appear to be carrier dependant.
Id love to get rid of the telstra firmware so that updates are direct from samsung instead of telstra.
I know a search could find it but seeing ive made the thread ill ask, is there a good set of instructions for first time locked device users (nexus was easy to flash) on how to flash another countrys firmware on a locked down galaxy or do you just use odin for stock firmwares?
I have this on my telstra phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1935570
Latest release with no carrier software at all.
Doubt you can use samwungs servers to update though. I have a feeli g it doesnt work once you have a non original rom install. Could be wrong.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda premium
its not completly stock firmware so i doubt the sammy servers will update it, that being said a untouched version of hte international firmware like sweeden may not suffer the same fate.
I updated my Singapore (Singtel) set to the non-carrier latest Singapore firmware:
I9305XXALI9_I9305OLBALI8_MM1.zip

I just flashed It, after flashing it doesn't automatically do a factory reset so I did that manually, I've noted that the optus branding is removed from boot animation, and the homescreen quick bar icons are now customizable.
no FM radio module though...

yes you can. but sometimes you may face modem problems like "you can't call or text people!" like in XXEMG4. i suggest you to backup efs and then flash any f/w you'd like to.
:good:
Just make sure that the firmware you are flashing is for the I9300 branch. Flashing other firmwares not suitable for the I9300 will well... brick the device.

What has that got to do with the answer ??
Question was asked and reason given as to why .

[Q] How could I return to Factory State on ROOTED Sony Xperia L

I'm so confused!!
I have Sony Xperia L C2015 - Android 4.2.2 - 15.3.A.1.17
I have done Root access successfully, and my Bootloader still locked, I used this method to root my phone " http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-l/general/root-firmware-15-3-1-12-t2591290".
Now I need to make Factory Reset to clean everything then Reroot then Install my apps in a clean condition .
Now the question is:
How to make factory reset and return back to the original condition of the phone?????
Knowing that I'm not an expert, so please anyone give an easy tutorial
I appreciate any help ... Thanks
Hello there.
The best way I would recommend is to flash stock firmware.
To flash stock firmware. You will need the following.
A. Flast tool.
B. The firmware you want. (preferably 1.14 firmware)
C. Usb cable.
D. PC.
Follow the steps below.
Download the Flash tool.(links provided).
Download the Firmware, Stock FTF links provided.
Install the Flash tool and the drivers for your device.
Install fastbook and flashboot drivers too.
Click the thunder symbol.
Choose Flash mode.
Browse to choose the firmware you downloaded.
Power off your phone and connect your phone to the computer via USB while holding the power down button.
The phone will be flashed.
Once it is done, You will have your phone in factory settings.
Feel free to customize it.
Hit the thanks button if i helped.

Thanks mate
Now there is two other things:
1- I had already downloaded the 15.3.A.1.17 firmware ftf, I afraid to be not the original one, and someone had edited it, how could I now that this firmware is the original one from Sony??
2- If it is the original firmware, then, once I flashed it with the flashtool, my phone will return to be unrooted and I'll receive the OTA updates normally as any unrooted phone?
Thanks for your effort bro.
Sent from my C2105 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You will get OTA updates. Even with the 1.14 version. That version is not modified or anything. All FTFs are original ones. And All receive OTA updates as it will if it was never rooted. Unless you have an unlocked bootloader. Incase you have an unlocked bootloader, you have to lock your bootloader to get OTA updates.
Hit the thanks button if i have helped you.
Ok, thanks bro. for your help

Feel free to ask me for any help you need. Even if you plan on upgrading your phone to KitKat viz the so many ROMs we have for our phone!
Another Question
I had read many people threads that they flashed firmwares but they had an issue, that the region is not true, like Hong kong or UK.
How could I know that this region is mine, and how can I check the region area on my phone ?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is that possible to return to the stock state by using Sony PC Companion directly without any flashing or anything that the luck is playing a big role ??
There wont be any problem. I personally have never had any problems. Even though i have done this for years!

Guys, I have a US device (t820) and just tried to install a European firmware. Whatever I do it won't allow me. Thank you. I will give it a try today. OEM Unlock is enabled. One more question, which of the two CSC files should I use, there is which has HOME as part of the file name. Thanks in advance.
I'm wondering if someone here can assist me. I picked up the 128GB version of the Tab S3 at my local Best Buy. I flashed TWRP and Magisk and didn't have any. Then I decided to try out the Flash v1.1 Kernel. Well after I flashed that kernel the Google app kept crashing on me so I decided to start from scratch. The only problem was I couldn't find the XAR firmware for my 128GB S3. I tried the UK firmware listed above and that almost works except that it limits my storage to 32GB instead of 128GB. Has anyone out there found any XAR firmware that can be downloaded? Any idea how to fix the storage issue?
Edit: After poking around I found the correct firmware at the link below.
