Kaspersky. I use it in my PC and I trust it the same way with my mobile phone. It's a paid app in the Play Store but I found out that this one is free for S3 users if you download in via Samsung Apps :good:
Its really not needed, the worst that could happen is a little spam....antivirus just slows down your phone and uses far too much ram....

And it would probably slow the phone down unnecessarily.....
hum I don't think that AV's slow down the smartphones, security is very important, unless you don't use your phone on the internet i think you must have an AV installed, we never know some apps from the market are malware, I recommend avast mobile security, I use it since the first day and is pretty nice and don't consume many resources is very very tiny when running and scan all apps from the store that you install. very nice and its FREE
No need for anti virus, unless you like a slow phone... And IF anyone in the history of cellphones were to get a virus, wipe that $hit and reinstall, simple...

With no AV, how would you know if you had a virus that is sending back your keystrokes to the creator?
You would not know you had one and need to wipe.
I wouldn't say it's a necessity, and but it nice to have an extra layer of protection. If an AV slows down the S3, then there's something seriously wrong with the S3.
I certainly didn't say s3 as the title states "android phone" but I reload os's once or twice a day so... Figured a lot of others out here in xda land probably do the same... My favorite anti-virus...

What do you mean by reloading the OS? You reset your phone once every 2 days ? =.=
Yep, basically cause I'm bored but if any virus/spam wanted to latch on hopefully redoing everything would make it a ***** to leech... Yes, I am a flashoholic

It's not necessarily a necessity but I always have one installed, because it's bad enough, when I get a virus on Windows, where I store some of my private data, but I definitely don't want any of that stuff on my phone.
Personally, I prefer to use Avast! Anti Virus. It has a blocker, an anti theft module (Root and No root) and it's completely free.
I guess it's relative, which is best. Everyone has their own needs. I need to block unknown/ hidden numbers and also keep my phone anti-thefted (That's a word I just made up)
And of course I like free apps, with regular updates/patches where I can be sure, my phone is in good hands
Here is the link, if you're interested
Have fun finding the right app, for you!
i've nerver had a virus and i don't know anyone who had it

i know AVG has a protection app for android but i cant remember the name....i actually just download an app called Lookout to help protect my phone since i heard about the recent malware attacks....read about it on lifehacker if you want here
http://lifehacker.com/#!5775320/how-to-protect-your-android-against-more-than-50-malware-apps
The best way to protect your phone is just don't install any weird looking apps from Market
Yea I use lookout too. They give you free 30 days for premium coverage. Try it out.

You can try those security programs but my experience has been that they slow down the phone, but the best thing you can do is use common sense, look at what permissions the app is asking for before you download it, dont allow su access to anything unless you are confident it wont harm your phone.
Droidwall .
look out is pretty good though....i find its the best one out there
How many people are using a anti- virus software and why?
Sent from my infected TB using XDA App
I don't. I also haven't used an anti-virus program on my computer in years. 95% of viruses are caused by stupid users, and the other 5% are fairly obvious when they hit you. Why slow down my computer/phone for the tiny probability that it might actually provide some benefit?
I use Lookout. Not just for malware protection, I use it for the device locater, too.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Anti-virus on the phone is pointless IMO. If you get a virus on your phone you either don't know what you are doing, or you are downloading paid apps from the internet that have viruses in them, and installing them on your phone.
I use LookOut because i won a years premium subscription from AndroidCentral. It does slow my TB down a bit, but mostly when i install new apps.
It's not a windows phone people! It does not get viruses.

I use Lookout also!
Lookout seems to be the best in my testing (least amount of battery use), and it is a smart idea to use an antivirus app.
Omg I got a virus the other day and it totally effed up my phone
Too bad I can't wipe the phone or anything.... Someone needs to make something for that....

Seriously people, anti-virus software is pointless on the phone. If you opened up that attachment in the email, from some guy in Nigeria that you don't know, you deserve to get a virus.

Well, usually find cracked paid apps to test before buying. Kinda stopped doing that and just buying everything because apps are so cheap and will just support them.

I've used AVG. Works well doesn't slow phone down (didn't for me). But always gave me a false positive on superuser apk (chains one). So I stopped using them, as I don't really have a use. I find.common sense usually works best.

Yes. Great thing about it is that you can set up profiles for each program. It's a beautiful thing.
I rock Lookout and BitDefender as my winning tag team.

Personally I don't use mobile AntiVirus because I'm safe with my phone. Also an issue with some mobile AntiVirus is brought up in this interesting article by ChainsDD, creator of the Superuser app for those who don't know, found on his site here: http://androidsu.com/2011/06/a-word-about-superuser-and-security/

At this point any "antivirus" apps are completely useless tbh. HTC is usually very good about patching exploits and all of the known android malware either used exploits that were useless on our phones from day one or took advantage of people not paying attention to what permissions it used. The only other way to get access is for someone to use a zero day, which an antivirus wouldn't recognize anyways, or for them to make an app that asks for SU access and then does whatever it wants once you give it that.
Not to mention without SU the antivirus app itself will be extremely limited in what information it can find about other apps and no power whatsoever to block a rogue app that would have SU. All the malware would have to do is close the antivirus and it couldn't do a thing about it.

I never thought about that. Now that's a good reason I would accept instead of the usual templates given.
Is there an AntiVirus program that requires SU?
The same AV I use on my desktop, common sense.
Yeah and sometimes the anti virus screws up your phone too

Ya Antivirus on your android phone is a useless application and only eats up crucial resources. like Haus said, without su permissions its not gonna do anything and even if you were rooted, it could just close the antivirus and go forward. Only paranoid or the uninformed use one.
Hi guys, can you recommend me an app which I can use to trace my phone just in case I lost it? Does using this kind of app consume lots of battery since gps need to be on 24/7. Please let me know thanks heaps.
Cerberus Anti-Theft is awesome. It costs 3Euro, it doesn't consume battery and it has SO many options, INCLUDING turn-on GPS from website and start tracking.

Best AntiTheft, I think. Comes with antivirus and firewall included.

Comodo Antivirus
Hi,
I tried the common ones: avast, AVG etc. and they all memory+battery drainers.
In my opinion COMODO Antivirus is the best.
Has remote locate, wipe, take picture either by a web site or by sms from a predefind number + A very good antivirus and spam call\sms filter.
Give it a try.
Anyone tried this yet?

avast! Anti-Virus is the best I've had, to date, on my Droid.. It's free, works perfectly, barely takes up RAM/uses CPU and it has root access, etc. ...
It's got anti-virus, anti-theft and root manager, just in case You can directly flash the settings to your phone, in case it gets stolen
Here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avast.android.mobilesecurity&feature=nav_result
Check it out, it's really worth a try!
Hope I could help!

For the most part, these types of app are becoming increasingly useless because it's so straight forward to remove them and more and more people know how to flash phones. However, I'd still recommend Cerberus as you can install it as a system app so it will survive a factory reset. Of course, that doesn't fully protect you but it gives an extra level of protection.
Thanks
Cerberus is the best app I've ever bought, period. You can even record audio with it, so, you know... Leave your phone in the break room at work and you'll know all the secrets soon enough!
Cerberus it is =)

I'm using Avast & it save me from a couple of infected apps that i recently download that had Trojan, spyware & adware that app was tubemate & a Dbz wallpaper which was promptly pulled & Avast is also good on battery & doesn't affect the phone resource that much,it also have a feature that monitors how much ram/cpu all apps are using.
And if you got root, you can convert Avast into a system app which will enable it to be Hard Reset proof which helps with phone recovery using Avast anti theft feature.
