[Q] Stock Telus ICS Kernel? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hey there, guys! First off, yes I am a noob with this kind of stuff, so I apologize 1000 times in advance. Secondly, I have searched, but to no avail (and my great confusion!) for this, but have found nothing. I have a SGH-i717D, Canadian Telus variant of the Galaxy Note. I rooted it, and all went well. Having said that, I didn't flash any custom ROMs (after attempting a stable version of CM9.1 which sent my phone into a boot loop), and decided to unroot my phone and now I currently have it with what I assume is stock Telus 4.0.4 ICS firmware. I was wondering if anyone had a flashable .tar of the Telus ICS 4.0.4 Kernel?

Thanks for the links, but I'm a little confused. Will the modem and radio reset my kernel? Currently my LTE and everything else works fine (though my phone does tend to freeze now after I send a text sometimes :/). For reference, here's what my phone says under About Phone. I would like to get everything here back to Telus' stock ICS.

Sorry for the bump, but it now seems that my phone will sometimes send the same messages multiple times. Last night my cousin reported getting the same two texts 5 times each, which is something my phone never did before. My phone's APN settings are still the default Telus ones, so I'm not sure what it could be. Could this be a result of anything I did (namely rooting the phone and installing CWM before unrooting)?

Update Rooted Bell S2 to 2.3.4

Hi,
Sorry for this post, but I tried searching, I am new to all this android stuff.
Basically I got a Bell S2 that was at 2.3.3 I rooted it by flashing CF-Root-SGS2_JP_XSG_KG2-v4.1-CWM4 and unlcoked it successfully. I now want to upgrade to 2.3.4 and was wondering what the best way to do it would be. I would prefer to keep it rooted and the apps that I have installed intact.
My questions are:
1) If I flash back an official firmware will my phone still be rooted? If so what is the best firmware to use?
2)Is there another custom firmware that I should flash to upgrade to 2.3.4 that is compativle with bell and also rooted?
Thanks
Pick a rom from the dev section and install, that would be the easiest way, and use titanium backup to backup your apps.
Thanks for the reply! Which kernal would be the best to go with at the moment? I have no idea which one to choose!

Okay, so my device is running 2.3.3 right now, and it currently rooted and unlocked (did this myself). How would I go about upgrading it to 2.3.4 and having it rooted and unlocked still? I am in Canada using a previously Bell branded phone that I am now using with Rogers Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Whichever kernel that suits your needs, the speedmod kernel seems to have amazing battery life but has no bln support, while the ragemod kernel has a bit worse battery life but supports bln.
Download one of the roms from the dev section and follow the install instructions that are posted, all the roms are rooted and will keep the phone unlocked.

[Q] Best way to flash as of 6April2012

Hey all,
Since the last official update on my Prime, it has been running crap. The touch screen is not very responsive, and the whole tab just feels slow overall A real pity coz I have been very happy until now...
So I was thinking about flashing it with one of the custom roms. I have a Galaxy Nexus and have flashed a heap of different Rom's and kernels, and it is crazy easy When I'm bored I flash! lol
After reading a bit on flashing the prime, it doesn't look as easy, OR AS SAFE. When looking I can't seem to find a foolproof way to set the prime up for flashing a custom rom, so I was wondering if others who have done this can post what is now viewed as the most reliable, safe way to flash a custom rom?
By the way, my Prime is absolutely stock, exactly the same as the day I bought it.

Depends on which version of 4.03 you're running. If you're on the latest ver "9.4.2.21" I believe you're SOL until they find an exploit for root for that version at the moment. If you're on any earlier version, you've got one of the easiest tools to root, unlock, and install CWM right here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427125
You can still flash custom ROMs even if you are on .21 firmware. I got my prime yesterday and was on .21, I also thought I was stuck, but there's a thread somewhere in these forums that explains the whole process. Not at home, so I can post the link from my bookmarks.
Essentially, if you are on .21 OEM firmware, you would need to unlock the boot loader, get into fast boot and push CWM recovery, and then flash one of the rooted ROMs via CWM recovery.
WARNING: Once you do this, from what I read, you can no longer flash any new OEM ROMs the standard way or you will brick the tablet, at least that's how it was last night when I was reading up on it, things may be different now.
Good luck

A question concerning basebandversions

Hello.
I've been running Cyanogenmod 9 for a week or so now, but today I wanted to check out the Checkrom ROM and see if it was anything. It was not and I've already switched back to Cyanogenmod again.
However, when I flashed Checkrom I apparantly also installed a new basebandversion called I9100XXLP1, previous I was using the one called I9100XXLPQ.
Does it make any difference which I use?
As far as I can understand baseband versions are the same as modems, which I've seen people talk about in other threads. I haven't really experimented with the different modems but I'd like to know if I should try to revert back to my old baseband version, and if so, how I do it.
Cheers!
Yes Baseband and Modem are same, wich is a part of firmware controls GSM, 2G/3G data etc.. of your phone.
if you are not feeling any difference in your data speed and signal strength, it is not necesory to change back.
---------- Post added at 09:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:43 PM ----------
Some custom roms contain Modem also, which replaces your exising modem, but CM9 does not contain a Modem, so your last flashed Modem (with checkrom) will be there even after flashing CM9 back
Thanks. That was enlightening
I haven't really experienced any difference regarding data speed and signal strength, but in case I do I'd like to know how to change it back.
I've found this page containing links to the various modems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
Can I just download one of those and flash it?
And does it make any difference if it says 4.0.3 under firmware instead of 4.0.4 which I am using?
No the link you quoted is not for Modems but its is for ICS official ROM,
I think you have lot more to learn about to the firmware versions and parts of firmwares and more....
dont rush for any unecessory flashing....fist you learn as much as psooible by reading the informations FAQs

[Q] At&t Note on outside Inside totally T-Mobile?

i just bought an at&t galaxy note earlier today and i was wondering what rom or radio do i need to download. its not my first time doing this but i want to be extra careful.
WHAT I DESIRE
i would love to have t-mobile apps on my note as well as t-mobile 4g lte or whatever its called.
Wifi calling if possible and other t-mobile features.
If i install a t-mobile rom to this unlocked phone will it brick it?( i wouldnt even know what rom to install)
I would like a rom that everything works, (gps,mms,sms,4g, and wifi)
Can anyone help please? ive already rooted the phone as well as installed cwm 5. i came from galaxy epic 4g touch (sprint) so im used to having to odin to el26/el29 then going to ics, Is it the same method for this phone?
Take a good look in the "note everything thread "
It is at the top of the general section as a sticky.
Nearly every rom available is there, along with all modem links etc.
Picking a rom is really personal preference, but having them all in one location, will help you to make a good choice.
Please read the individual rom threads carefully, as a few of them are tricky ...g

Here it is ...
Each rom thread should be reviewed thoroughly before flashing anything ...IMHO
And each rom has a QA thread for the most part.
Happy reading ...g

Kernal issue or ROM issue?

I have a Galaxy S2, I9100, original, I had the LoS Kernel from early on, and I have had recent troubles upgrading. I've upgraded to Dream Kernal, Siyah Kernal, and several other kernals. The phone boots when I load each individual rom, however, several services fails to load.
Am I missing something? I haven't updated this phone since it first came out, and after months of "update messages" from Sprint, I've decided to update it and I'm having difficulty. I've got CWM downloaded and I've used CWM to update each rom and kernel. If I could get some direction that'd be great. I just want the latest Android version and some type of superficial visual ROM ontop. I am generally very okay with each ROM, just upset that the current kernal leaves me with a failure of signal, causing me to reboot.
Update
I currently have Kernel version 3.043-rc1-Siyah-Dorimanx-V5.78-SGII-PWR-CORE and AOKP Version ThunderBolt Rom JB by ALHuessein Mohammed and Android version 4.1.1. . My Build is ThundrBolt by ALHussein Mohammed and I can't get any of my active services to work. Wifi doesn't work, sending texts doesnt work, surfing the internet doesn't work. Nothing. I get the phone to boot, but nothing comes of my boot. I have tried several different kernels, and different ROMs, but none of them seem to fix the issue of standard services working. I'd appreciate some help with the issues. My CWM version is 6.0.1.2-Siyah. I'm pretty confused on the whole matter.
As far as my knowledge goes, the Kernel is like the underlying infrastructure, and the ROM is like the OS. I don't really know what I've done to **** this **** up, but it's no longer functioning as a regular phone. I've used ODIN before, but seeing how I have CWM, I figured it wasn't required. Any help would be appreciated. Even setting my phone back to stock, since backing up my phone through CWM didn't actually do anything, since I can't restore back to my previous version.
I'm in dire need. Please assist.

So no one has any idea why my phone boots, but every active service fails to load? I guess I'll have to call this one a loss.

hey ma8 first and foremost u should have patience here on XDA.
bumping Post like this will lead u knowhere and people will simply ignore the same for sure
now coming back to ur issue what i would suggest u is this before jumping into kernel flashing thing have u checked in the ROM thread of the one ur using for what kernel people r using there r any kernel related post in that thread.
if not do the same first (search that thread for post that r similar to ur issues).
also u can try the latest Siyah kernel v4.1.5 and see

Several contradicting pieces of information here that I've bolded.
The I9100 is a GSM phone. Sprint is a CDMA network. The I9100 won't even work on Sprint's network.
When I google for "LoS kernel site:forum.xda-developers.com", the first result I get is for this, which is an Epic 4G Touch kernel.
These things tell me you are not in the correct forum for your device.
The Sprint variant for the Galaxy S2 is the Epic 4G Touch, and that forum is located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1281

Yeeeahh. I had searched Samsung Galaxy SII, and I was led here. I had forgotten that my particular phone was an Epic 4G Touch. Thanks for the direction.
