Overheating. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just downloaded the free promotional version of Modern Combat 3 from the Samsung Store. I noticed that my phone overheats a lot when i start playing the game. Is it normal because when i play asphalt 7 its not so hot.
Please provide a solution.
EDIT: It had gone upto 56deg celcius in 2-3 minutes of gameplay.

Is power saving on? Are you on a custom kernel or rom?
I'm on siyah kernel, uv and oc, and my phone was heating playing nova 3 on Wi-Fi, then i turned off power saving and the heating reduced.

Lol, are those the touch screen oven gloves?

Yeh, they come exclusively with Samsung Galaxy S3's..
Too be honest I don't have overheating issues. Not yet anyway..

Try to underclock your GPU Speeds & undervolt your GPU Voltages. That can help lower the heat

uc and uv helped significantly. Temp didnt go above 50.

enyo... I have tested with glitch kernel at 1.7 ghz and i currently hold the record benchmark for this device on antutu using performance governor. After testing for a half hour at that speed i fell asleep with the phone stuck at that speed. I'm typing this message with that phone now. That was done with glitch v13. The most i ever got from high clock speeds was freezes and reboots.
However, if you get stupid with live oc the story can be very different.
But to give an idea of what my phone handled back then, go to the cm7 glitch thread and check what the gpu/buss speed was at 1.7ghz. But remember that those bus/cpu speeds, and voltages were finely tuned by tk , and you probably won't be able to push that hard with live oc.

It's all luck. Chance. Fate. If tk has not burned his phone yet i would say you have a lot of catching up to do to get the mileage he has. I had mine overclocked 1.5ghz for a few months.. And guess what, i have never monitored temp. But hey, i pay an extra couple dollars a month on top of insurance for lifetime warrantee. So i think my phone burning up would fall under that. But anyway, your stressing out to much over it.

I actually use 10% live oc and 1200mhz step... All voltages stock. Fully stable and it FLIES

I must have every bit of speed. That said here's the setup:
ICS AKOP 25 Glitch 14 B5 for 6.0
1200 step with 118 LOC
Glitch OnDemand with some OV and UV. (see pics)
Live OC is the way to go as you get a boost to your GPU and RAM in addition to the usual CPU bump.

with the devil kernel i have been running 102% loc between 200-1000mhz. on glitch i can oc up to 1500mhz with no loc, soon as i add any loc the device freezes. im guessing my leakage is not dialed in correctly for glitch, also i get a bit nervous playing wit arm voltages.

App to turn of cpu cores on Galaxy S3?

Is there any app that can turn off cores manually on the S3? 2nd core doesn't work and Cpu sleep seems very useless because I can't turn off cores while actually using my phone. An app like 2nd core for a quad core cpu would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
pegasusq (the scheduler) doesn't turn cores on and off based on whether the phone's screen is on, but based on the CPU usage.
So it actually does everything you need by itself; if it's sitting idle it will turn off cores, whenever you need the horsepower it turns them back on.
Siyahkernel with Extweaks allows you to force it down to 2 or 3 cores, however I wouldn't do it. Rather play with ExTweaks to have it turn the other cores on when the load is higher.
If you don't want to use the extra cores, why didn't you just buy a galaxy s2 instead?

Yeah but on my S2 I found that using 2nd core and turning it to single core usage it would give almost the same performance if I just boosted cpu by 200mhz. So do I need the siyahkernel or is there a core turn-off app for ninphettamin kernel?

it was a legitimate question mate, no need to snap. On topic, the phone really should do that on its own and handles all the processes just fine. I don't think youd even WANT to have to manually change there core usage, that's a hassle. I'm sure there are plenty of great custom kernel s as the previous posts have mentioned that improve off of stock greatly though

There is no need for installing anything that enables or disables cores, let android take care of that. Not all cores will be initiated when mailing, texting or calling. Only when they have to. It`s like using these stupid task managers that mess up android task management. Let it go unless you know what you are doing. No disrespect but only noobs come up with these ideas.
Pegasusq does all the work, users need not apply. (Seriously)
If you need to ask this question then you need to leave the system alone.

If you use a kernel with init.d suport you can flash this zip in the recovery.
It disable 3 core's when the screen is off.
Only for JB rom's!!!!

STweaks - Siyah Kernel
Siyah Kernel will do the job with STweaks.

CPU, GPU heat up when playing modern combat 4 [SOLVED]

I bought the game. Btw
When I play the game, my device heats up and just wondering if there is a app for showing the CPU temp. And what is the safe zone for the CPU? But I really need that app its not only mc4 but that my main question. I played for 2 hours straight, ended up with 12% battery and the phone felt very hot.
EDIT: for anyone wishing to find out their CPU temp, buy SET CPU and place the widget on your homescreen.

These games are really GPU intensive so my bet is you slow down your gaming. I mean take breaks from time to time. App, I don't know any but you may find it and it may need root. Plus do you have a case on? If yes then it is one of the reasons why your phone is heating up so much. Can you also specify the position where the Phone feels the hottest.
Hit Thanks if I helped you.

my phone heats up in the bottom right. I don't use a case, i am fully rooted and have a custom rom. i don't have any way to read what temperature my phone is heating up to but at a guess, i would say around 50 C or something i don't know My old s1 actually plays the game smoother than my s3!!!! i think the heat is throttling it. i haven't overclocked my phone.
The processor is at the bottom so it will definitely heat up there.
The best thing you can do is to take a break when playing for a long time. Don't charge when playing, turn power saving off when playing (works for me).

I'm having no trouble playing MC4 for many hours.. Charging just makes a little warmer than it normally would be. Something happened one time when it went really hot, but cooling it down and reboot, and nothing happened ever since. I'm pretty sure there's a monitoring widget app on play store, but there's a menu in SetCPU that shows current battery level and temperature.
Omega v34 with Siyah 1.8 kernel. CPU OC 1.6GHz and UV around 100~150mv for each frequency. GPU OC to 600MHz no UV.

yep will do, just a few last things, i modified the UV a bit. My phone started to crash alot so i changed them a bit. for 3 hours of gaming my CPU went up to 50C still kinda warm but hey, it quadcore. to keep it at 30C or 24C idle you would need a water cooler. LOL
Ah yeah. My settings are a bit low.. Stable enough but hey every device is different. Rarely felt my battery warm to the extent I go oh it's hot. Good luck with mc4.

Do you have any overclocking enabled or other kernel settings tweaked. Or do you have intense games running allot of the time that will also cause over heating issues.
