[Q] Can't make device install new JB 4.1 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm trying to install the new official JB 4.1 with Odin.
Did everything as written in guide but the device loads with previous version and doesn't seem to load into recovery mode and install anything at all.
Tried disabling "auto reboot" in Odin, pull out battery after installing the kernel and then start the device in recovery mode (vol up + home + power) but I only get the recovery menu. when I choose "reboot device", same thing happens.
Also tried to wipe data. so now I'm stuck with no data on phone and old ICS 4.3.3 instead of JB 4.1.
Any ideas how can i solve this problem?

Their hasn't been ICS 4.3.3 anyways just flash the firmware with Odin and restore with Google....pretty simple

One possible its a faulty download or two you are doing something wrong .
You say

That does not make sense Odin does not use recovery mode . Are you using Mobile Odin ???
after installing the kernel
Again that does not make sense its not a separate package .

Likewise you are only supposed to get the recovery menu .

sorry
I meant ICS 4.0.4, and the problem is exactly what you told me to do, I'm flashing the firmware, Odin says everything is good but when I restart the device nothing installs. Instead, the old ICS 4.0.4 loads like I never flashed anything.

Maybe I didn't say it right
I only got into recovery mode because I read in some guide here that if the device auto reboots but doesn't install the new firmware I should go into recovery mode and then it will install the firmware.
And no, I'm using the normal pc audin version, not mobile Odin.

If Odin flashes 100% and nothing updates then either the file is at fault itself or you phone is damaged .
You don't restart the device Odin does as Auto reboot should be ticked .
read in some guide here that if the device auto reboots but doesn't install the new firmware I should go into recovery mode and then it will install the firmware.
NOPE factory reset will but not recovery .

oops
Sorry my bad, I was trying to flash the root file instead of the firmware file.. didn't even know it has such big size..
Thanks for the help anyway guys

Can't Flash Clockwork Recovery!!! HALP!

So I recently upgraded from my SE x8 to an SGS2 (HUZZAH!)
I flashed an insecure Kernal (XKWF3 I believe) and Rooted using S2 Root 1.5.1.
I install Rom Manager and attempt to flash Clockwork Recovery, I select Samsung Galaxy S2, It downloads fine and I grant it SuperUser rights, I go to backup/boot into recovery and I get an error (red text);
"E:Failed to verify whole-file signature
failed to verify signature"
(Im not 100% sure on that wording but i believe it is correct)
Any ideas on what i might have done wrong or any way to fix it?
P.s. I'm on the Virgin(Optus) network in Australia, I have tried to reinstall/reflash several times to no avail.
Thanks in Advance :]
Just flash the cf-root kernel, that's all, and don't use rom manager.

First step - is to chiiilll You wont have broken anything permanently.
1) Download a stock firmware from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
2) You can get into download mode by pressing and holding: Volume Down + Home + Power. (Then you press volume up when prompted to continue)
3) Make sure kies is installed and fire up Odin.
4) Flash the rom in the "PDA" section (instructions are in the thread).
5) Your phone should boot fine after this.
From there you should flash chainfires kernel (as suggested above) using odin under "PDA" section.
Your phone will have CWM/Root. And you should be all good
Best of luck

I have now tried to install CM7 twice now and it isnt working - I have selected install .zip from my recovery and selected the cyanogen zip folder, doesnt do anything for me, wont boot up need to restore back to stock.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
After doing a complete wipe, including Dalvik, flash CM7 twice. That should do it.
Yep that's right. Flash it twice.

[Solv] Recovering from stupidity, help needed to restore my SGS2 to working condition

Edit:
After 3 hours of having the exact issue this post describes and tries to fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
I gave up and went to bed, but as a last resort I did the exact same process i'd been doing on my desktop PC but in my laptop instead - and it worked.
So I would suggest anyone who can't flash using Odin try a different cable, USB port and even a different PC.
I was able to flash a KE7 O2UK firmware without any hassle whatsoever.
tl;dr version:
I tried to install a new modem, I9100_radio_XXKP8_CWM, then the phone wouldn't get past the exclamation/pc icon.
I can enter download mode, but cannot load any firmware - even the most up to date O2 stock.
After flashing CF-root KE7, I now have the SGS2 bootscreen with yellow exclamation mark, but I cannot enter CWM at all even after holding VOL UP, Power & Home for quite some time.
I have used the pit reflash option once and only once, as something made me think the modem somehow fubar'd the file system layout.
I was on a nightly of CM7, after everything i'd read I was under the impression I could just update the modem ad-hoc to gain whatever benefits it may give.
Does the issue i'm having suggest a bad bootloader, and if so, how do I fix it?
I'm no newb but I never really got the hang of flashing the SGS2 after the absolute ease with my HD2.
Thanks in advance for any ideas

Hi Dan,
if you have only done what you wrote, then your bootloader should be fine.
But what pit file did you used?
BTW, the pit option was not a good idea.
If you still can boot into download mode, re-flash CF-Root kernel.
Try to boot into (CWM) recovery mode after flashing the kernel by pressing Volume UP + Home + Power buttons until recovery menu appears.
If that does not work, you may have to flash a complete ROM.
If that does not work either, you may have to do a factory reset (in recovery mode) or hard reset (after normal boot by dialing "*2767*3855#") and then try to flash a complete ROM (in download mode with Odin).
Do you have a backup of a former system?
Nandorid backup from CWM recovery, or an "emergency" backup in KIES?
P.S.: Usually it is possible to flash only another modem to an existing system and test it. It seems that something went wrong for you.

I have flashed KE7 and KE2 over and over again, but I cannot enter recovery mode - the phone simply sits on the very first graphic with the yellow exclamation mark. It's almost as if the Vol Up key doesn't work.

I can't flash any ROM at all. It gets about 30 seconds into the modem flash then errors. Kies isn't running in task manager, so i'm assuming it's a NAND issue.

I can't get to recovery, nor do I have any ROM installed, but yes I do have a backup so i'm good once i've got into recovery.

Kies won't connect.
As the phone isn't charging in its current state, I don't want to 'test' too many things as the battery may soon run out.

[Q] Stuck on Android recovery system

Okay so I am stuck on the recovery screen. I have rebooted several times and I have ended up in the same place. I also chose wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition. Some one help
ya know, some steps of what you have done before hand will probably help, what rom did you have, what have you done etc etc,
So either you have sticky buttons or your gonna need to re-flash a rom, but as we dont know wether you mean recovery or cwm recovery this post is about as much help as a chocolate fire-guard in all honesty,
If you are on CWM download a connect your phone up via mounts and storage put the rom on your phone and install it via zip,
if your stock by the sounds of it something went bad...... try grabbing a rom from samfirmware and flash it via odin.
usually happens if you format system partition, if you dont have a hardware issue simply flash stock ROM using odin
I already flash stock rom but im still stuck at the android system recovery e3
Download mode and flash a stock rom . Boot it to run and let it set up .
jje
Is Kernel_I9100DXKL3.tar.md5 a stock rom sorry im noob
No its a KERNEL .
jje
Example of stock rom? GT-I9100_DXKL3_original??? sorry i need you help
If you are on CWM download a connect your phone up via mounts and storage put the rom on your phone and install it via zip,
This option is there in CWM but we cant mount it, I tried many times...
So it is always a good idea to keep your running custom ROM zip file on your SDcard undeleted, to flash on the emergency even while you are on the go...
yesturday only my son fingured my phone and got non stop FC...just flashed ROM again but bootloop, flashed again after Factory Reset...worked.

I am in the same situation, stuck on the CWM Android system recovery screen. My Kernel is fine, I entered it not realizing I couldn't get out because my home button hasn't worked in over a year. I've tried resetting with the power button, and the power button + down key, but it always comes back to this screen. All I need to do is select the "reboot system now" button but without a Home Key I can't select it. Any way around this?

[Q] Galaxy Ace GT-5830i stuck in recovery mode

Hello all,
I have an issue with my Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-5830i that is stuck in Android system recovery (3e) mode, and it seems there is no way to get it out of there.
- upon selecting wipe data/factory reset the device is stuck with one message "multicsc: src /system/csc/MTL/system/ ." and "Formatting /data..." bellow
- upon selecting apply zip from the SD card the installation always fails with various error messages (I tried to install cyanogen mod rom in an attempt to recover, but failed as well)
- upon selecting reboot now the whole screen disappears with only the "multicsc: src /system/csc/MTL/system/ ." message at the bottom of the screen and I need to remove the battery.
I will greatly appreciate if anyone on this forum could help with the issue, as I have search for possible solutions without any luck so far, and my phone appears to be bricked.
Thank you,
John
My guess is u still on stock recovery. Flashing cm rom or any other custom rom needs clockworkmod recovery, moroever theres no cm rom for s5830i yet.
For now u could try to reflash stock rom with odin. Theres a thread somewhere guiding howto do so for s5830i. Also do note that anything for original s5830 wont work on your s5830i.
Last but not least, do read more and understand what you're trying to do before u really hardbricked the poor thing.
Thanks for the pointers, I really appreciate it and everything works fine now.
It was actually my nephew's phone, so I have no idea how he managed to brick it like that.

I have the exact same problem. Except I can't even enter into download mode. Phone boots into recovery mode regardless of what buttons I press, get stuck at "formatting /data", and I can't flash anything. All the buttons seem to function as intended in the recovery menu, so it's not a hardware failure. Any ideas?

Flash stock rom thru odin then from recovery mod Clear data and cache then reboot. [emoji4]
I know this is kind of old but I have same problem, i got this phone from cousin and it wasnt booting , it was going straight into recovery, since my mother has same phone and i used odin before to save her, i am familiar with odin so, I tried new firmware flash with odin , it passed on odin but again doesn't want to finish install on the phone, it says
installing update...
--appling muti-csc --
Fromatting /cache...
-- Appling Muti-CSC __
and it wont go anywhere from there , and if I reboot it goes back in recovery again and it wont format data again, formatting cache works. I also tried to flash cm7, rooted it, installed cwm but when i do reboot it is not in cwm but in regular recovery, so after that I installed cwm again and without reboot installed cm7 kernel wich succeded , after that installing the cm7 itself stuck on "installing update" , could this be hardware issue, it always seem to be stuck when its doing something with "data". I tried couple odin flashes multi package and single package, i was carefull to chose correct firmware, only thing i could make mistake is maybe with pit and re-partition. Anyone help i would appriciate it much since i have no other phone than this.

Hello,
I am an owner on a i9100g on cyanogenmod 10.1 stable...

My issues are:

I can flash using odin using a usb jig to put it in download mode
So... What do you propose to do?

Hello,
I have the same issue, I was in CM 10.1.1 stable and home button not working.
Then, I tried to flash a stock ROM via Odin, and now my phone is stuck in a bootloop...
I tried to flash different ROMS (always stock from sammobile.com) but every time the result is the same: bootloop.
The problem is that as my home button is not working, I cannot go into recovery mode to do a factory reset or flash a custom ROM, neither in download mode (I use a home made JIG for this).
I have also tried to flash the correct OMAP pit file, hoping for it to do a full wipe, but did not work either, my phone is still in a boot loop.
My last hope would be to do a OMAP flash as described here: link
But I am not sure it will fix the problem and this solution is quite risky...
Does anyone have another idea / suggestion ?
Also, I am not confident in changing my home button as it is necessary to remove the LCD first...
@GamingDj: I did not found any i9100g compatible DorimanX kernel, only i9100...
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers
Help
Any help on this issue please ?
My phone is still dead
Fixed it !
I found a way to make it work, and I think it can be useful to some other people.
Here is what I did:
Remove the battery and insert it back in
Insert a USG jig to enter Download mode
Flash a stock ROM from sammobile.com using ODIN, Auto-reboot should be UNCHECKED
Phone will stay in Download mode after the flash is complete. This way the phone will NOT install the package yet
Remove the battery and insert it back in
Plug the JIG to enter Download mode again
Flash the right version of CWM kernel
Reboot the phone
What it did is that the phone tried to install the stock ROM, and ran CWM kernel (instead of the stock one).
The phone boot in Recovery mode with a little instruction at the bottom "Invalid args"
My guess is that CWM does not have the same API and failed to execute the commands.
But... Who cares ? I was in Recovery mode
I was able to Wipe data/Factory reset and wipe cache. Phone is back to life (Home button still broken though...).
Hope this tread can help others in the same position...
Cheers !
Can u use adb?
then, you can enter the recovery mode by using adb reboot recovery
