Phone won't boot after build.prop edit - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, a couple of hours ago I decided to edit the build.prop to change lcd density, so I went to the market and got myself Lcd density modder, made the change and rebooted, unfortunatley the phone no longer boots.
I then searched for the solution to this problem, here on xda and on a bunch of other forums, and all agreed on the same solution, I had to replace the bad build.prop with a good one. Once again murphy's law knocked and I had no backup, so I grabbed the rom that I was using extracted factoryfs.img and and managed to extract the build.prop :highfive: thanks xda.
For the next step I booted the phone to the recovery and using adb pushed the new file, the thing is the phone still does not boot. I tried using adb shell to check the permitions, but every time that I try to su I get a segmentation fault. I've already wiped the cache and dalvik-cache a bunch of times to no avail.
Can anyone help?

Next time, use Rom toolbox to edit your build.prop.
Boot to CWM recovery, then use ADB to restore your backup build.prop

I alread restored build.prop, the original one from the rom, but the phone still won't boot.

Reflash your current FW or flash ParanoidAndroid if you like to change DPI.

Thansk for the help

Hey, I also destroyed my build.prop and now my S2 is hanging in a bootloop. I can connect via ADB but I have no stock build.prop and dont get to extract it out of factoryfs.img. Can anyone support me by helping me to exract a stock build.prop or post all the info that has to be in the build.prop. That would be very nice.
Thanks, SmilerGrogan

Why not just make a note of which modem you currently have, (about phone screen, under Baseband version) and download it from here?

I would like to backup my wife's modem as we have the same phones. However I have installed multiple modems found here on this site. None of them are of the same quality and battery life as her modem. I am led to believe that perhaps our provider has modified the KG2 modem to better suite the network. So again I ask....

Very simple,
Requirements:
1. CWM recovery
2. Root access
Once you meet the requirements, let me know

1. Download this file: db.tt/Pj8JuqTh
2. Flash the file in CWM recovery and reboot phone
3. Open your file explorer, there will be a folder named " MODEM_BACKUP" on your external SD , the folder contains your phone's modem.bin
4. Rename the modem to modem.bin
5. Download any modem.zip here: www.veyka.co.uk/radios/
6. Using a zip manager, replace the modem.bin inside the modem.zip you just downloaded, with the modem.bin (your backup).
Now you have a CWM flashable backup of your modem.

Thanks,
I got it to work. Just a couple of notes for future reference. You can edit the script within the zip file to put the bin file anywhere that you like. Also it looks like you don't really have to boot into recovery mode to run this script. I ran it from the terminal under su and the bin file was the same.

s2 screen freezing up

I've been having problemS with my s2 screen freezing up - if I put it to sleep and wake the phone up it OK for a minute then starts to freeze up again! I've had the phone really flashed but it did not fix the problem! So I presume I have a digitizer problem, I want to send it back to Samsung under warranty - as the phone is rooted what would I have to do before I send it back to Samsung as I've heard the phone has a flash log installed so Samsung would know it's been rooted even though I will have it relished with a stock rom?
flash an official firmware.. erase thr binary count thing. There are threads here that could give u the step by step process how.. without the jig ofc. rooting your phone VOIDS your warranty.

Hey all. Um well my s2 just locks up/screen freeze and soft buttons while i brows through forums etc and its getting rather enoying now. It does it about once a day, maybe twice. I tried changing custom roms, kernel and even taken out my sd card. I havent yet tested to see if it does it on stock rom.
Could this be a hardware issue? Or is it a memory leak thing? I dont even know what that is on custom roms lol
Thanks

1. You can try another kernel like Dorimanx kernel.
2. I'll use ParanoidAndroid as an example:
- boot to CWM recovery
- wipe data /factory reset
- format /system
- Flash paranoid
- flash Gapps
- fix permissions (under Advanced)
- reboot recovery
- flash your custom kernel
- reboot phone
Done.
3. If you are using titanium backup,
A. Never restore System app +data.
B. Try as much as possible to restore user apps alone without restoring data.
4 update your apps in Google playstore
done

[Q] Haptic Feedback not working after waking from sleep/standby mode

Hi,
I rooted my phone recently and flashed the latest Siyah Kernel* on it and installed the complementing ExTweaks app. I hadn't played with the settings on ExTweaks, but I've noticed my haptic feedback has gone a bit funny and stopped working. It would be fine when I reboot it, but when I put it into standby/sleep mode and wake it up it stops working. I can change the intensity of the vibrations using ExTweaks, which would get it to work but if I rewake it, it would stop again. So I can gather that it's a software issue rather than hardware. I've tried getting rid of ExTweaks and rebooting the phone but the problem still persists.
Anything (other than flashing the stock ROM) I can do to make it work again?
Thanks.
* (I tried to flash a stock kernel after flashing CF-Root but that bricked my phone so I had to use a microUSB jig to enter download mode, from where I flashed Siyah to get it up and running again. I lost no data and don't know if it's relevant but I thought I'd put this in anyway.)

[Q] APN not Working on JellyBean

Hello, I have been trying to use some JellyBean ROMs (ParanoidAndroid, Resurrection Remix, etc) but none of these can save my APN list :\. I'm currently on ICS (Resurrection Remix 2.6.1) and the only way I can save APN configurations is thru an application calle HiAPN. Unfortunately it doesn't work on JB, when I install it and open it, it says it must be converted to System App...then reboot, when I reboot, the app gets uninstalled... I re-install it, and then the app gets stuck with a message "pls reboot your phone..." when I try to set the APN.I fixed permissions, clean cache, etc... and nothing works.
Any ideas?

is there any ICS ROM/firmware, that you were able to normally use data without using any app to edit /save your APN?
I don't know if in fact the original ROM was able to do that, because when I bought my phone I immediately rooted and installed a custom ROM and in that time I was able to set my APN's manually (I was on GingerBread).
So there's no an easy solution to this, right?
thank you

For troubleshooting sake, you need to flash a stock ROM/firmware, then let me know if your APN works automatically, or you can manually input it yourself without using an app.

My bad, sorry U.U
Whenever I flash a custom ROM and lose APN settings I just ask my carrier to resend them to my phone.
They send an MMS with an installation file for the APN settings, maybe you could ask your network carrier to send them?
It's really simple. I flashed Paranoid Android 2.13 and had to get my carrier to resend APN settings and they installed and saved fine
Ok, I tried the WanamLite ICS UHLPY V12.6 Android 4.0.4 Smooth & Rock Stable ROM and it didn't got the APN list from the start but when I manually put an APN and saved it, it ACTUALLY WAS SAVED ... but now what I have to do to make the APNs work with ParanoidAndroid ROM?
Thank you for your patience
I had the same problems with Resurrection Remix. I reflashed then was able to manually input the APNs and save.

I also noticed on Ice cream sandwich and jelly bean for data the apn type had to be... default, supl. Used to be just.. data.

The thing here is that I have tried many ICS ROMs and in every one of them I have to use 3rd party app to configure the APNs and in JB this app doesn't work =( So I'm unable to use JB by the moment =(
But maybe Jokesy can help me out! =)

[Q] Bricked i9100?

Hi!
Yesterday I tried to flash miui rom on my i9100. But when it started to flash the text:
"System FORMAT" was show, and then the screen turned black and now I
cant start the phone, I cant get into CWM or download mode, it doesnt work with a jig either.
Is my phone totally bricked?
Nothing happens when I plug it into the computer, and the same thing when I try to charge it.
