[Q] flashing cm9 from stock ics - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I heard some people say this will hard brick the note if you flash from stock ics to cm9. that you have you to first downgrade to gbs. However from all the videos and threads i read it was from before the stable cm9 came out so i just wanted to check the status of that.

[Q] How to install MIUI on Vibrant

From my understanding MIUI can't be installed with normal flashing methods, so I was curious if this was true... How do you install it?
Also, I here a lot of people have issues with only being able to do emergency calls or something of that sort. Is that issue something I should worry about?
Sent from my SGH-T959 (Samsung Vibrant)
The instructions are printed very clearly in the op....i have been running miui for months now with no issues
Its easy. Start from a fresh ODIN just to be safe. After you root, simply flash and ur good to go. MIUI is really cool, hope you enjoy it.
Hey folks,
I'm a Captivate User on MIUI so I'm not as familiar with the MIUI Vibrant Territory. I'm trying to Flash MIUI to my friend's Vibrant which currently runs Simply Honey on a Custom GB Bootloader. I looked through the Vibrant MIUI ASOPish thread found a process on p. 59 to Flash MIUI from Honey. 2 questions bug me though:
1) I thought per the Custom Gingerbread Bootloader, one could flash MIUI without the SD card issues? Has anyone done it with the custom gingerbread bootloader? I care because my friend doesn't have the stomach for doing this herself and we live too far away for me to do it every time. So I don't want to remove the custom GB bootloader if it truly is backwards compatible and she wants to flash something else that doesn't require use of Odin/AIO/Heimdall.
2) How does one obtain older versions of weekly MIUI ROMS if the current version is buggy?
I really enjoy MIUI on my Captivate and I've been using a Gingerbread Bootloader.
Thanks.

[Q] Possible brick with new leak( ucld3 )?

I read in recent threads that the new leak ucld3 might have a chance of bricking our phone. It is recommended to odin back to recent good GB or ICS build.
I know that the leak was just released a few hours ago but has anyone had a problem so far? Would a nandroid back to a 'safe' build be the same as an odin?
No problems here check out my new post and it will walk you through the whole process and getting cwm recovery and root back.

[Q] First time flashing Cyanogenmod: Help needed on installing CM10 or CM10.1

Hello there!
I'm a complete noob when it comes to rooting and other related stuff so I could use some help. I want to install Cyanogenmod 10 (or 10.1 if it actually is usable and mostly stable / it is easier or more noobproof to install) for the first time and I would like to know what do I need to know before starting to follow any tutorials for flashing new kernels etc. There are just so so many tutorials for this and I don't know which one I should follow to not brick my phone as I just can't afford a new phone if I manage to brick this one and I just want to get everything out of this phone.
All this Clockworkmod, Odin, Rooting and everything just confuses me and I don't know where to start. If I've understood correct the first thing I should do is I should download some custom kernel as this is something which runs "under" the Android (kind of like bios for computers?) and allows me superuser access=rooting? Then after I got new rooted kernel done I should install Odin or ClockworkMod which acts like a "backup" if something goes wrong? And lastly I should flash in the Cyanogenmod 10 or 10.1 depending which is more hassle-free for everyday use (I'd like to get as much customization as possible for my phone) and has more features and more stable.
My phone model is GT-I9100 so it's the international one (I live in Finland so no Verizon or other model of it.. that much I understand at least) and my Android version is 4.0.4 the 100% stock version of it.
I'm tired of waiting for the slow Samsung people in Finland to get the official Jelly Bean release to be done and I want all that project butter goodness NOOOOOOW. So...
TLR: I have Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100).I want to get CM 10 or CM.10.1 the noobproofest way possible, can't afford to brick. Can you guide me to a good tutorial with easy to follow orders and up-to-date versions of Cyanogenmod as I don't want CM7, but the latest GOOD Jelly Bean version or just tell me how to do this? I will answer any questions you might have about my phone or anything. I'm not stupid when it comes to computers, but phones are totally new thing to me and I don't want to flash new jelly bean with some random tutorials from youtube as I'm afraid of getting a bricked phone (or missing out some great features from other Jelly Bean releases). I want the best for everyday use, most stable and the one with most customization options version of CyanogenMod Jelly Bean for my S2.
Thanks in advance! I will be monitoring this thread actively so I answer possible questions quick.
I think you're a bit confused at some points.. I assume you're on ICS now. First you have to root your phone by flashing a custom kernel (which gaines you root access) like Siyah WITH Odin. Steps are descriped in enough guides on xda.
When you've rooted your phone, it's best to make a Nandroid back up in Recovery Mode (CWM), you get CWM automatically with flashing Siyah, just in case anything goes wrong.
After this you may choose to flash a custom rom, mostly done with CWM recovery. Steps for this part are almost always written at the instructions on the first post of a rom thread, so read them carefully.
About Project Butter: this isn't fully implemented in CM, so flash the JB-leak from Samsung, or a rom based on it (or wait for the official release).

Yes I'm running 4.0.4 forgot to add that sorry. That clears many things up thank you! Oh... I thought that Project Butter was fully implemented on every 4.1.X ROM. Now I'm having hard time deciding if I should flash CM10 or just wait for the official Jelly Bean release which is supposed to come next month in Finland... I just want my phone to be really, really fluid and I'm not really pleased with this current 4.0.4 and all these unneeded programs like all the Samsung Hub programs.

[Q] Trying to go from 4.0.3 (rooted) to something stable and JellyBean

To start my TF-201 is only rooted. I have kept it on stock ICS 4.0.3 for a long time and now want to flash something more current. All I ever did was root it with Sparky many months ago and nothing else. Since these early days many things have changed in the development area for the Prime and I feel I should bring it up to speed. My problem is there is a lot of different instructions for unlocking and rooting for people that have updated to JB and I don't know if any of these things still apply to my current ICS rom.
Do I have to unlock first or can I just download rom manager from the market and flash a recovery without unlocking? When i go to the Asus site, I don't even see a link to download the unlock tool anymore. I would like to just flash the latest stable CM rom but don't want to mess things up because I accidentally followed misinformation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[Q] Which ROM?

Years ago a friend installed CM7 on my Atrix and now it's pretty unstable. I would like to reinstall the ROM fresh. The question is, which ROM should I install. (He didn't backup before installing CM7)
I'm thinking it would be nice to go back to an official ROM but, there is CM10.1. I'm leary of going back to CM because the 10.1 ROM is not official and it doesn't seem there will be much improvements for CM on an Atrix 4G.
I'm leery of going to an official ROM because I see all the banter of bricking it with Gingerbread.
Suggestions?

The real question is what version of android do you want to run? CM7/7.2 is the only official CM ROM. CM10.1 is not official b/c of the kernel issues, which is still being worked. Does it really matter if a ROM is official or not? No. "Doesn't seem there will be much improvements for CM on an Atrix 4G."? Really? I'm not even going to post the link, I'm just going to say go google android version history and see what CM9, 10, and 10.1 have that CM7 does not have, and then restate that noob statement. Seriously, you have no idea what you are talking about.
Multiple users, including myself, have unlocked, rooted, restored to stock, many times over the past 3 yrs. In addition, there are guides readily available to help you through the process of preparing your device for custom ROMs. So the concern of bricking is a non issue unless you don't know what you're doing. Banter of bricking it only exists if you flash the incorrect sbf. Its not that hard. Sit down, read guides, ask questions as needed.
Let me be the first to admit that I am a noob and have no idea what I'm doing because this is my first foray into the world of smart phones (we all have to learn somewhere).
I went ahead and put CM10.1 on there and after adding the fixed gapp package it seems to be working fine.
Does anyone have a working link to a gingerbread ROM that works for an AT&T Atrix 4G? The links on this tread are dead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163342
