So i was trying to Root my Samsung and I think i miss-understood the operations and processes.
Samsung Galaxy S2
Kernel 2.3.6
Downloaded SGH-I777-ATTGalaxyS2RootStockZedomaxKernel.tar
Installed, no problems, all good, but no wifi... freaking out.
Searched the Forum... found there was an issue.
Attempted to reload the stock kernel StockKernel-PDA.tar
Installed, no problems, back to 2.6.35.7 Gingerbread.UCKK6
But Wifi will not enable....
Kinda freaking out as Dont understand how the Zedomax and Stockkernel are 6/8mb... but the rest of the post are talking about a 200/300mb file which needs to be downloaded...
Just looking for help on how to get back WiFi?...

...If you bootloop or things behave wacky, enter 3e recovery (stock kernel means stock recovery) and do a Wipe Data/Factory Reset. If you are reverting from UCKK6 back to UCKH7 you MUST perform this step or wifi will not work.
I Did not go from UCKK6 to UCKH7... i don't think?? So any help on what i need to do would be awesome!
AT&T is the carrier.
Also without having to 100% wipe and re-install.
You need to find the "Return to stock" thread and go from there.
Zedo's kernel is ancient, it will not provide wifi with UCKK6 system images.
Only my kernel, the UCKK6 stock kernel, and (maybe, not sure) SiyahKernel will provide wifi with UCKK6.
Kernels are <8 MB. 300MB = full kernel and system image restore.
My guess is you flashed a UCKH7 stock kernel.
Found a return to stock thread and it mentions a RUU_Ace_Cingular_US_1.80.502.3_Radio_12.39.60.19_2 6.06.04.06_M_release_166557_signed.exe as well as a pd98img.zip which are also both 290MB...
Found another thread for Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH, KI, KJ, KK1/2/5, KL1/2/3, LA2 Download but none are for USA/AT&T.
There are a LOT of thread on this and i have been reading thru as many as i can...
If the Stock Kernel or Entropy512 Stock kernel File name or description can be posted i can do the update thru odin...

Of the items you mentioned, NONE are for this device.
I suggest searching a bit more methodically - look in this forum subsection, and look at the sticky threads in the General and Development forums. Threads are made sticky for a reason.

Hello all. Im having the same problem as fuscanese. Could someone tell me how I copy the 2 wifi files mentioned above? I been trying since yesterday. Im new here and will appreciate all help provided, thanks in advance.

SHOstock2 v1.3 works well with WiFi if you want a custom ROM (ICS).
I was using UnNamed v2.2.1 and it was very stable, but I wanted to try Ics, so I'm now using the AOKP 4.0.4 but I'm having issues with the Gps, still doing some tests, if I dont find any, then I'll move to SHOstock2 v1.3

I was using UnNamed v2.2.1 and it was very stable, but I wanted to try Ics, so I'm now using the AOKP 4.0.4 but I'm having issues with the Gps, still doing some tests, if I dont find any, then I'll move to SHOstock2 v1.3

Sorry guys, iam needidng your help.
My Galaxy S2 SGH-I777 suddenly the wifi stop working as well.
When i push button to put on. The Wifi show me this messege “Stating on…”
But never finish to starting.
and if I let a few minute alone, it put off automatically.
I had made a factory reset and nothing.
i changed the rom but nothing.
Now iam using Stockshock 3 with syha kernel.
is there any solution for this problem? or my wifi is already dead?

Sounds like it could be hardware failure. To test that, flash back to straight stock followed by a wipe data/factory reset from 3e recovery. If the problem persists, then it is either a problem with your phone hardware, or a problem with the available wifi router signal. You can test the latter by trying to connect on different routers.

I dont want to belive that my hardware is broken.
But i flashed again my SGH-I777, and the problem persists.
My wifi just says "Turning on" when I push button, and it never boosts again.
I changed the kernel and the rom. I restored to old factory settings, and nothing works.
I would like to get back my wifi.

hey brother, first of all, your wifi is not damage fisically. But you are in the same situation that i was.
my SGH-I777 is working very well after too much work with it.
i gave my cellphone to my little brother, and two days later he told that the wifi was working fine.
i made this face O_O i couldnt believe what he was saying.
right now i dont know, how he resolved the problem, the only things that he did was change the OS i guess.
i will call him tomorrow to ask about the solutions, but man, dont worry too much coz you just like my brother, will resolve the problem

Ran it on the the AOKP JB 4.1.2 from 11.20.20102
seemed to solve issue -- connected to wifi but lost connection after ~30 min
same issue -- constant "Turning WiFi on" message.
ran FXR again -- connects temporarily then loses connectivity
same thing every time i run FXR
should i use a different ROM?
which one?

You could ask in the AOKP thread if there are others experiencing wifi issues with that rom. If not, a fresh install of the rom may solve the issue. It definitely sounds like a firmware issue, but when there is any question whether the issue is firmware or hardware, the test is to flash back to stock and see how it works. As far as which firmware to use, there are a number of different firmware that are completely stable. You should read through the developer threads, and then try them out to see how you like them.

Randomely, the other day, the WiFi turned off and when I turned it back on, it says Error....
I have tried everything I can think of; wiping and reinstalling rom, erasing everything in fastboot, updating the radio (further question on that) and also kernels! Finally I tried FruitCake to get back to stock, still no luck!!
Radio: Are radio's carrier specific, i.e. could I flash a radio meant for Europe to replace the ATT one? (I am on .36)

If it helps, i accidentally formatted the PDS partition a while back and the reason for reboot is AP KERNEL PANIC
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am having similar problems. Just last night my phone started rebooting frequently after having turl's v8 build of cm9 for probably a week and it was working great. However, now I have tried wiping everything, putting on different cm7 or cm9 builds and what I have come to the conclusion is anytime I turn the WiFi on, it reboots.
It is not even connecting to anything, just turning it on makes it reboot. I was on the .36 radio with this issue, I tried using the .37P radio and it did not fix it.
Does anyone have any other ideas to try and fix?

No. I dont have that screen. It just says wifi error and Bluetooth crashes as well....

From the other threads I have read, I think we are boned. It seems like the Broadcom WiFi/Bluetooth chipset is borked and the only fix other people have gotten is through an actual repair. I hope you are under warranty - I'm going to revert to stock and hope they accept it.

But, how come whenever I flash a new rom, the WiFi will work temporarily, i.e. it would connect, obtain IP etc for a few minutes then just not work until I reflash?
Surely that is not hardware?

Did you use Titanium Backup, and restore apps like Maps, Music, and YouTube? People are saying this can cause issues.
Also did you restore call logs after flashing? I experienced my wifi and mobile networking dying after doing that on only some of the new roms out there lately. It's a bug with one of the base roms, that a lot of custom roms are based off of. It was fixed with a new base rom version, but some of the custom roms have yet to officially update. Updates are under way though. Try out Morrison's 0.7 and see if you get the same result. It's been updated.
Although, you could be having a completely different issue. If you mean you can just leave it running after flashing and the wifi dies, I don't know what to say.

Tried all of the above and still nothing unfortunately. Just want to update on symptoms of the phone if that helps:
Everything eventually gets more and more buggy, even recovery is really laggy and slow
Data will stop after a few days use, and only fix that i know of is to reflash
WiFi does not work, it connects for about 30 seconds after a reflash, but then nothing.
Logcat says - Failed to Load WiFi Driver (after reporting WiFi HUNG)
The phone can crash when I plug in the MicroUSB to charge, when it restarts it says AP KERNEL PANIC.
I have tried everything except for flashing via RSD lite, do you think that could work?

I tried the PA ROM, because I really love the hybrid mode. The ROM has worked fine and looks great, but whatever version I flash, the mobile network, both data and phone, simply doesn't work.
It briefly connects to my provider (drei.at) and immediately disconnects, no matter whether I have data connection enabled or not.
Have tried this with all available versions of PA and did the usual routine: wipe, format system, wipe data. I even went totally back to a stock ROM, tried various modems, the current one being XXDLH9, which works just fine on [email protected] 0.6 ROM.
Had the same problem with Omega, FoxHound, and god knows what other ROMs I tried. No matter what, the only JB ROM actually working is [email protected] 0.6, that's it.
Is this a known phenomenon or have I overlooked something obvious?
The phone used to be a branded and simlocked Austrian T-Mobile, but ever since it has been debranded and SIM unlocked.
Any ideas?
All i can suggest is your apn settings?
Can try Offline SIM APN Database (get on Google Play) to insert the correct apn settings.

Thank you for the suggestion. The APN settings on a fresh install, all wiped, are correct and the same as in a working setup.
Any other ideas? Am I really the only one with that problem?

Suggest next step is factory reset ..
Step after that is to install an official stock rom .

Did a factory reset, totally clean install with everything wiped.
Also, did a clean wipe and installed official stock ROM. Lost root, started from scratch and still didn't work.
I'd love to post in the ROM forums, but haven't yet posted my mandatory 10 postings.. Maybe this thread helps me to reach that limit

No, that's not what I said. Stock ROMs work just fine; I actually just flashed the latest leak (DLI5) and had no problems with the network. The problem hasn't changed, so it's what I wrote in the OP: Only JB to work ist latest leak and [email protected] 0.6. All others can be installed but have not network connection other than WiFi.

Have you tried flashing a new baseband? i had the same problem, when flashing the franco. Kernel..
or, go back stock, then reflash the desired ROM
EDIT: If it helps, I speak/write fluent german ('Cause I live in germany ^^)

Yes, I have been playing around with all kinds of basebands, trying to flash modems etc. but that does not seem to be the reason for it. I have had different modems working and the very same modems simply did not work with PA at all. Best example ist yesterday's leak DLI5 which I flashed and had a virgin like system working just fine with my network. I then flashed the PA ROM, which then had the same baseband as the latest stock ROM, but, alas, same story: No network.
The weird thing is the brief connect it always shows in the status bar. It lasts roughly 4-5 seconds and then disconnects again, only showing the empty network status display.
It really sucks, because I find the idea of hybrid ROMs really appealing, in fact, this seems to me as a truly superior way of making use of the 720p display.
Need to try logcat next to see whether the connect/disconnect somehow can be monitored from there. Will report on that.

Nearly the same prob to me! I loose data if I change my location, also provider "3" in Austria! Stock is working, CM10 nightly also. I tried different Modems tomorrow the ODIN Leak.

I was having the same issue, I pulled the SIM and wiped it down, blew off the contactors, seems to of solved the problem for the time being.
WiFi works, Mobile Networks do not

I just installed ParanoidAndroid. I'm kind of a noob to all of this.
I understand some, but not all.
My mobile networks are not working.
I don't get any notification at the top of the screen either saying I'm on a mobile network.
I've messed around with the APN settings. It seems that every now and then it'll connect for a brief moment, but I can't really do anything unless I'm connected to WiFi.
Any help would be appreciated.

Turns out I just had crappy reception at home.
I wanted to get 3+ but something got in the way and had to go with the 2.+
Sorry for not understanding, but what is AOSP? I see that, but I don't get what is what.
ASOP = Android Open Source Project.. They are best but not that much good at battery

I decided I wanted to try out Cyanogen, so after trying unsuccessfully for a number of hours, I discovered Resurrection Remix, installed it, and it was working great. Only problem is, I had no base band and could not connect to my cell network or use WiFi. I tried installing it a few more times with different modems and none worked, so I flashed back to FF18 and got that all set back up. I read somewhere that you should try using a stock JB install before installing RR, so I flashed a JB ROM, and had the same issues with no working modem/baseband. So now I decided to just give up and go back to ICS, but I'm having an issue doing that. My USB does not function at all. It charges, but does not show up on my computer, nor can I ODIN it. I've tried all the tricks on here (Re-installing drivers, different cable/computer, *#87-whatever) and it still will not work. I can't exactly reflash it without ODIN or CWM, and am at a loss as to what to do. Thanks for any help.
EDIT: I should mention that this JB ROM is rooted, but I can't seem to access anything on my SD card, so transferring files seems to be out of the question.

Based on your reference of FF18, My guess is you're trying to install CyanogenMod for the I9100 to your SPH-D710, aka. the Epic 4G Touch.
Check your phone model. It'll be on the label under your battery. If it says "SPH-D710", you're in the wrong place.

I've recently purchased a Galaxy S3 International which works perfectly fine on the stock ROM (4.1.2). However, when using any unofficial ROM (I've tried Paranoid Android 3.99 and 3.97, CM 10.2, 10.1 and 9.1, Slimbean and some others), I can't connect to any wifi network. The problem doesn't come from the routers, because I've tried connecting at school and on the 2 routers at home, I even configured one of them to be open just to be sure I haven't typed my password wrong 100 times in a row. What happens is I click on the network, enter my password, and nothing happens. No error, nothing. The network is displayed as "Saved, secured with WPA/whatever" and when I click on it again, it says "Connecting..." for half a second, then goes back to "Saved, ...". Another symptom I noticed, is that the signal strength varies wildly even though the router is no more than 2 meters away.
Anyway, I spent hours searching for a solution, in this forum and outside. I've found some, but none of them work. Here's what I've tried so far:
Wiping: I've tried every combination of wiping-flashing-rewiping possible, I even reflashed a stock image through Odin
/data/.cid.info trick: tried it manually through adb, as well as the flashable zip someone here made, didn't help
Taking the /etc/wifi folder from another ROM and implanting it in the ROM with the problem. Here I've tried 2 /etc/wifi folder: one I've found on this forum, the other I took from my recovery of the stock rom. I've tried 2 implanting methods, first adb push-ing the folder into place (and having deleted the old one of course), second was to put the wifi folder into a ROM's zip and flash that. None of those combinations work. I even tried deleting the wifi folder as a last resort, made wifi unusable of course
Flashing a new radio: tried 2-3 of them, all made my phone unusable (must be the EFS/IMEI thing). Had to reflash stock through Odin.
Trying another ROM: as I said, I tried enough of them, even older versions. Only stock works
Now I've spent an entire night looking at this and I come here and ask you for help as a last resort.

I had the same problem. I asked also for help. I got no answer..... Nobody cares about noobs...
No network on custom roms .
Try a stock based custom rom,
Change your kernel.
Read the multiple identical no wifi on custom rom posts especially if using CM as its a well known problem .

Basically if noobs don't carer to read the faqs and guides and are unwilling to learn then you are correct .

Thanks for your concern, however, as I said, I didn't just come here ask my question without searching; I spent hours looking for answers and I've tried all "solutions" I found (which I enumerated in my first post).
I also tried your suggestions: on a stock based ROM (WanamLite) everything works fine, unsurprisingly. But I don't want a stock based ROM. I then tried reflashing CM and PA over Wanam, but it didn't work. Also, as Wanam uses an older baseband, it made my mobile connection unusable under CM and PA (and under the recovered stock ROM).
Alternative kernels also didn't fix my problem, unfortunately.
As you can see, I'm no expert but I'm also far from being a total noob. I looked for solutions and tried them all out before coming to this forum. So please, don't dismiss me, thinking I "don't carer to read the faqs and guides and are unwilling to learn". I'm really desperate here and would appreciate any help or even hint of a solution.

That was actually a reply to the poster that hijacked your thread .
If you have indeed tried ALL solutions then their is nothing left .
Your basic problem is non stock based custom roms dont work for you and as you have tried every fix then you are stuck .
All i will say is CM type roms well known wifi problem and some have fixed by changing kernel or changing the wifi folder but as you have already done both i see no other solution .
You could of course try asking in one of the individual custom rom Q&A threads but i guess you have already done that .
