The wifi on my 101 keeps dropping frequently. I know its not my router, as I have 2 laptops, a desktop, 2 nexus one's, and google tv all running without problem on the wifi in the same locations as I've tried the 101.
It seems to drop every time it comes out of sleep and then every few minutes even while using the device. Tried spare parts, but still no success.
Any thoughts?
known problem with 2.0.54
We have to wait for next firmware release
Its to do with the encryption and security, using WEP or none and it works fine.
I have never dropped WiFi with WPA/WPA2 PSK.
Same. I'm using WPA2. Check out with wifi analyzer (from market) or similar apks if your wifi is using the same overlapping channel with others around you and ensure your signal strength is not too weak to the device.
May need to tweak the signal strength on your router to make it stronger otherwise, and change the channel to a free channel..
Just got a Wifi/3G Flyer today, running Gingerbread 2.3.3. and software version 1.56.720.2. I have a WPA2-PSK secured Belkin wifi router at home. Currently, it has 2 laptops and 2 phones (BB & Galaxy S2) connected without any problems.
My Flyer refuses to recognize the router, but it shows up my neighbor's similar WPA2 secured SSIDs instead - (so presumably the wifi hardware is working).
I have already tried/checked the following:
Router's SSID is not hidden.
Router supports push button WPS - does not work with the Flyer though it configured my Samsung Galaxy S2 perfectly fast.
Rebooted router.
Changed router security to none, WEP 64 bit and WEP 128 bit.
Manually entered settings - it just says my network is 'not in range' despite my sitting right next to it.
My router settings are:
Authentication - WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK
Algorithm - AES
Wireless channel - auto.
Wireless mode - b/g/n all supported.
Is there a fix for this that doesn't involve rooting the device?
Update: Used the software update to get it to 2.3.4 and software version 2.27.720.1, and it still is showing up every goddamn wifi network in the vicinity other than my own one
change your channel from Auto to channel 10 or 11. Normally this will not affect your other devices. It seems that the Flyer is quite sensitive for this kind of 'problems'
Holy quack, that worked!
Thank you so much! I set the channel to 11, after which it started detecting the network, but would connect and instant disconnect. A reboot fixed it for good!
Hi,
I have been using the C5 Ultra Duel E5533 for the last couple of days and run into this issue:
Although I have read that this device supports the 5Ghz WiFi Band (Sony official Whitepaper) I am not able to discover the 5Ghz WiFi network I have set at home.
This is even more bizarre , as on the first time I setup the WiFi network the 5Ghz network was visible in the network discovery list - I could even connect to this 5Ghz network. Suddenly, after connecting to another 2.4Ghz WiFi network, the 5Ghz one just disappeared and I can never see it again in my networks list ?!
Tried resetting the WiFi router but still I cannot see/discover the 5Ghz network.
I am running the original E5533 firmware as my region didn't yet receive the latest update.
It does support 5ghz. Can it detect any other 5ghz routers? Like your neighbour's? Or if u have other devices that can work on 5ghz. It could be the channels that your router is using that's causing the problem.
Did factory reset - it's OK now
I own the 8" LTE model (SHT-AL09) with stock ROM, unrooted and with locked bootloader. It originally had the EMUI 8 firmware SHT-AL09C636B196 (Oreo 8.0.0.196) but a few days ago I got an OTA and decided to upgrade it to the official EMUI 9 firmware SHT-AL09C636E2R1P2161 (Pie 9.0.1.161) and now 5Ghz WiFi networks don't work anymore.
Before the update, WiFi scan showed dozens of 5Ghz WiFi SSIDs in my area, including my own one, and I could connect to them without issues. Other apps such Wifi Analyzer also showed dozens of 5Ghz WiFi networks.
After the update, I can only see one distant 5Ghz network but not my own one. When I try to manually add my own 5Ghz SSID I got the error message "Unable to find MySSID".
It seems it is a hardware/system issue because Wifi Analyzer has also stopped showing all 5Ghz WiFi networks but one. I've used the mobile Hotspot feature of my other Android devices to rule out my router being the problem, but the issue persist. Needless to say other devices in my household (Android, WebOs, Laptop, ...) have no issues showing or connecting to my 5Ghz WiFi networks.
I can see many people having the same issue months ago when they updated their Honor phones, but so far nothing affecting the Mediapad.
Am I the only one with this issue? Any suggestion regarding what could I try to fix it?
Did you already try to change the channel on your router? Probably the channel you configured is no longer supported. This at least would explain why you can see other networks on 5GHz.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was using automatic channel. I've changed it to manual and tried several channels, but the result is still the same.
this exact issue happen to me (my son's Mediapad M5 Pro). just realized it today. tried resetting the tablet's network setting, connecting manually to the router 5G wifi. all to no avail. my other devices - 2 laptops, 2 mobile phones, 2 android boxes - all are connected to the router's 5G network without issue.

I read in Reddit some people manage to "fix" it by using a different channel in the router, as @AndDiSa suggested. Try setting the Wifi channel to manual an test different ranges of channel. Try first with the lower ones (36, 38, ...,46,48 ). If it doesn't work try with the highest range (149, ..., 155 ). If it still doesn't work, you can configure your router to use another region/country with differnt channels range until you find one that works.
same here, mediapad m5 8 (SHT-AL09), wifi 5ghz not work after upgrade to pie 9.0.1.161, I think this is bug. I'm using another huawei P20Pro and Honor Play, there are no issue about wifi 5ghz and connected to the same router
Please fix it Huawei
No WiFi issues here after I installed the OTA update to 9.0.1.160.
Does it seem to be a problem for the lte versions only? Is anyone with a wifi only tablet experiencing this problem?

I've a wifi only M5 8 - both 2.4 and 5GHz wifi is fine for me on Emui 9.
Same here. I own my M5 8.4 inch LTE version and I updated to Android Pie yesterday. I tried to factory reset for a couple of times and it didn't solve the problem. I think it's a bug of this firmware version hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Try changing the WiFi channel of your router. Lower channels did the trick for me

Yes, i tried that and it can connect to it. But it is very buggy. The connection drops a lot compared to my other devices that connect to the same 5Ghz SID. It is very noticable when playing head-to-head game such as Clash Royale when the bar is about 2 bars. It just drops off and switch to mobile. I have never experience the issue before emui 9 or on other devices.
:| I might have to drop back to 2.4Ghz.
Non LTE, not able to connect to 5GHz.
Suddenly able to connect on channel 40 after changing channels a few times, which is the channel it was on anyway. Weird.
Just to add to this, it connects at 5GHz but soon defaults to 2.4GHz.
Just updated my M5 8"LTE(C432) to Pie and no issues with 5Ghz Wi-Fi band works as usuall. Must mention that after all bigger update I start from 0 so I allways do a factory reset and start from scratch. This can solve many problems
After Upgraded, my Mediapad M5 only can see 5Ghz lower channel wifi (eg. Channel 60),cant detect upper channel ( eg. Channel 157)
hello, I upgraded to Pie this week (mediapad m5 pro LTE), after restarting the tablet 5 mhz networks did not see them, I made a network reset from settings, and rebooted the tablet, now works fine. sorry for my English.

Hello, after a few days that the tablet has worked well, it happens again that 5 mhz networks do not see them. I do a network reset again and it works again ... go pretty messy.
I have a WiFi only M5 10.8 inch device, and all was working fine until the OTA update. 5Ghz does connect to router but reports no Internet. Even though it reports this I can still browse using Chrome and can search for apps in the Play store but can't update or download any apps. I can use the same router on 2.4Ghz and everything is ok, so does look like a firmware issue.
"Great" job. As usual, from working device to buggy one.
How to disable update? I have WiFi only version and there is an option to auto-download update over WiFi, which I unchecked.

I have a device that supports only WiFi channels up to 11, I want to share a WiFi network for that device thru my cellphone. I live in EU so available channels are up to 13, my neighborhood is very WiFi polluted, i can see more than 200 AP at this moment, less crowded channels are above 11, so my phone almost always use that range, and my device can't connect to it, is there an option change region to US for tethering ? or somehow force different channel ? I don't have an rooted phone and can't do it right now.
@porlock
Setting up the Wi-Fi channels / region to be used has to be done on Wi-Fi router you connect to, AFAIK.
Totally not the case, please read one more time what I have written.
