[Q] Charging with long cable - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone explain to me, why I use a long USB cable can not charge the phone while I was busy ben.Bij ics was not because he did just load.

i don't understand your question.. can you perhaps elaborate more on your situation that way we can also give you a more detailed solution?
EDIT:
If you mean: your cable is not working because it's not genuine, then i highly suggest you use the original Samsung cable.. as not to put your device at risk
I hope this helps

use only genuine cable bro

Use any non-cheapskate cable and it will work well.
All microUsb cables are genuine (since it's an open standard) but must ones are of doubtable quality and not capable of powering more than maybe 0.2Amp (the phone uses 1 Amp on wall charger)

[OTG] Charging and OTG mode at the same time

Hi. i just want to share my work with you my firends. I made dock station and i was able to get OTG MODE AND CHARGING AT THE SAME TIME for SONY XPERIA S LT26i , but XDA USER GregórioAxiaMagno get it tested and working on XPERIA MINI st15i. Thats mean you can do your own almost for nothing, few cables + 100k resistor thats it.
Enjoy!

Yeah!
As said by our fella, sonic_boom :highfive:, we can easily mod a OTG cable, or even mod any normal cable/adapter, to allow OTG and battery charge, at the same time, in our little lovely paunchy phones :victory:.
On the sonic_boom's site you can find clear and simply diagrams to the goal.
Also you can find my test at youtube channel - and other things more
So if you think that the LiveDock, even with a nice design, can be just an expensive plate, you have now one more argument haha.
The resistor is easy to find... in fact, all the materials are cheap and easy to find. In my case for example, I'm a geek so I have a lot of old oficial cables and some equipments, the only thing off my collection is the resistor.
My video here.
The only thing what can damage your phone is if you use power more than 5v 1000mA (genius), or maybe connect the wrong pins (genius x 2, because everything is well explained), I mean, if (isTrollTin || isMorePowerThanTheCorrect) { yourPhone = ; }.
It is worth is very simple!
EDIT: BTW if you have ICS at your mini and maybe OTG isn't working, is just install the BusyBox by Stephen (Stericson) and done! To mount one or more data travelers I used [root] StickMount by Chainfire

Why? Connect your charger then check command DMESG. Connect USB charging from computer then check same command. Then connect 5V 3amps charger and do the same thing. Android will decide how much power can take while charging. Phone is charging slower when you use computer I AM not sure but I think max is 500mA from AC charger you can get 1500 mA but iam not 100% sure

Problem. USB host mode RESET on "fully charged"
Hello guys!
I have such a OTG+Charging solution for me and it works like a charm (on cm10, sony ericsson mini pro sk17i - see freexperia). Thanks to sonic boom for the comprehensive howto!
The OTG-USB is connected to a USB hub (that powers my devices and charges the phone!) and a usb-ethernet connected to it for network access.
It works perfectly, but...
...when the phone is "fully charged", it does something to its usb connection (reinitalizing it, I guess) and the ethernet is lost. That would not be much of a problem, but the phone resets the usb connection roughly every 2 to 3 minutes once it's fully charged.
As long as it's charging: No problem whatsoever.
Do you know that problem and what can I do?
So far I have found the kernel-switches in the filessystem (proc or sys, dont remember) to influence host-mode and charging beahviour and have starting playing around with them, but to no avail: Either no network or no charging.
And, as soon as the phone goes to stand-by, the charging is resumed and the usb-host connection subsequently dropped.
I am very grateful for any suggestions as this problem prevents me from having a nice little server running on my phone with performance better than a raspberry pi! (Wifi is hardly an option: I have around 14 Wifi Networks in my surrounding that kill any decent latency).
Thank you for your help in advance!

[Q] My galaxy s2 isn't charging

Hi everyone, i' ve be en looking an answer to my problem from a long time i've looked in almost every related post, but nothing...
When i plug in my phone (to a wall charger or to a pc with ye USB cable) the phone says "charging" but you can leave it liket thar for hours
and nothing happens, i have tried a lot of things :
-make sure the charger is good
-coneccting with diferent cables
-change the rom and kernel (a lot of times)
-even i replace the USB port
But nothing of that seems to work... Have anyone an idea of what culd be the problem?
Thanks a lot
I had a similar problem where I plugged my phone in and it said charging but after half an hour I'd lost 1% I changed to an iPhone plug and the supplied USB cable and this has solved the problem for me (I looked at the micro USB end of the plug and USB and one of the pins in the micro USB was missing from the plug) However you said changed cables and plugs so don't know however issue sounds similar

How on earth are u going to use ipone cable to charge yr sgs2. what he meant is the charger not the cable. Since u ve use different charger and cable and even replacing the usb port, i think its the board issue which means u may ve to replace the main board. Only thing u can do is get a desktop chargerand another spare battery.
irstingi them

Im sorry I meant IPhone plug not the cable, actually I have what you say a spare battery, but I want to fix the problem anyway
Try putting your battery on another sii. See if it charges then.
You can also use a dock or charge it manually.

Need a new sync cable

My usb sync cable started charging my phone extremely slow and sometimes ejects my phone from the pc randomly. I need to get a new one and I would prefer a Sammy original (even though this lasted me about 5 months.
Where online can I order it? Amazon has too many different sellers, I would like some first hand knowledge from someone who bought one

Don't buy from Amazon or eBay or any other online stores for sdcards or data cables or charging adapters..
Go to an Samsung show room
Would love to.... But I live the Caribbean. No other choice but to order online

I got 2A 5V charger for 5$ near home
Not the charger is the problem. It's the actual usb cable. The generic ones I've tried makes my phone charge half as fast.

bump please
Buy Samsung Original cable
If your charging adapter works then you can use any cable to charge your phone, i always do and it charges normally but should be a 5V adapter.
BUT for syncing you need the original Samsung USB cable because other cables will not work for this purpose. This is the only way frnd

Sometimes I charge or connect with an Nokia cable..
But actually, I don't use stock charger.. It takes forever to charge
The stock cable is really poor. Most people report slow charging performance due to USB Charger stability detection.
Yeah at first it used to say charging via Usb that's when I realised it's started giving trouble. I'm using my old Xperia cable that belongs to my mom now, so I still need to purchase a new one. Anyone with a link?

Omg you need a link for a data cable? I've tried several ones, from other phones, unbranded, and so on I've never had a problem.
Or go on Samsung web site and choose one.
Google is your friend.

Samsung web site? really...tell me where?
And like ive said in previous posts, ive tried certain cables and they had slow charging rates/low quality. I was just looking for a recommendation for one that maybe someone has purchased online and had a positive review on it from XDA.

[Q] Galaxy S3 (i9300) won't charge

So I got this strange problem where my phone stopped charging. I tried diffrent cables, adapters, charging it while being off, charging it via the computer and even tried to adjust the little lip in the micro usb port. Is the charging board dead? If it is, will a replacement be expensive?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Free mobile app
Well dude I think your assumption is right.
It might be the charging circuit only which may be dead.
Because as you told that you have tried diffrent cabels and chargers but still your charging is not working which means that the usb micro port through which we charge and connect our phone to computer is damaged and should be replaced .
There are many possible reason of damaging usb port like you may have drop your phone or by using faulty cabels and chargers or if u have rooted your phone then there is possibility of changing the voltage of current to more than 1000 Mhz etc etc.
You should try to flashed a complete stock rom by downloading from sammobile or directly using kies to update or re-flash your phone
you can try that may it may help you.

Nah, it won't turn on because the battery is empty.. I don't have a spare so it seems buying a new board is my only hope..
I saw there are loads of micro usb connectors on ebay. If I solder a new one on. Might that help?

You can try micro usb port which is available on ebay but it would be extremely very dangerous until and unless you know what you are doing.
My suggestion is to give your phone to the samsung care and tell then to repair it.
If your phone is in warranty then they will do it for free. You just need to provide them a copy of bill at the time you purchased s3.
Press THANKS if I helped you

OTG and charging

Hello everyone !
I would like to know if it's possible to use OTG and to charge the phone AT THE SAME TIME ?
Maybe with a specific cable, or a docking station ?

Thanks for the answer.
Do you use it "a lot" ? No problem with that (no disconnection, etc.) ?
Been using it regularly but not with a dock or magnetic charging cable.. using it on an external battery pack that connects on the same dock port so it is still the same.
I can safely say that it does not give any problems with OTG at the same time..
It is possible to charge via an OTG cable, but the cable have provision for this thing exactly. There are guides on the internet, google it, i'm sure you will find what you are looking for
Just to confirm that I can charge the phone with the magnetic cable and use a USB device at the same time .
