If i factory reset and full wipe, am i ok restoring apps and data with titanium? (not system data i know)
it's just i thought i wiped, but my photos and things were still there after wiping and flashing a Rom, it's kinda laggy in places.
Yes it will restore fine. Move your backup, game data and other important files to ext sd card before you make full factory reset.

1,Flash a new rom,do not need format your internel SD,so your picture will not lose
2,you will lose all your app and app data(if via cwm, factory reset, wipe cache and data)
All depends upon what you flash and how you flash .

Wiping cache and dalvik cache will not remove your apps and settings.
Wiping data or factory reset wipes everything and sets back to factory defaults.

They are not the same. Wiping data will format data partition including the infernal sdcard subfolder, factory reset won't touch internal sdcard /data/media folder which is in fact what we call internal sdcard (in twrp at list, to do that it just erases all files except the media subfolder, instead of formatting)

NO its a single procedure to wipe apps and data and restore to a clean firmware .
But why you want to i dont know if you are flashing any rom you require first a backup of any data you want to keep safe plus a back up of your EFS folder .
usual to have a Nandroid backup.
Actual flashing of a rom requires reading the instructions for that rom .

The folder that rule one says you backup before touching anything .
It contains your IMEI if that gets corrupted and no backup then you have a non phone SGS3 that may be repairable or not at a service centre .

HI,
I've recently rooted my phone, installed new ROMs/Kernels. Prior to installing the ROM, I wiped my storage, my cache, my dalvik cache, etc. However, when I was looking around my folders, I noticed files from pre-wipe - in other words, it didnt really wipe my phone out. Now obviously I dont want dead applications taking up space - how can I properly wipe the phone before installing a new ROM?
Thanks !
Try to do a factory wiped from the phone. I think that does the trick.

you can use SUPER WIPE script from Android Revolution HD. This will wipe everything on your phone internal SD-card. Don't forget to backup. You can find it here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797334
you can also use this tool. I guess it is the same as revolutionHD from above member posted whereas you have different options/stages of wiping the phone.
You can either use super or mega wipe (leaves you without anything on the phone!! so be careful)
Thanks guys - I used superwipe (from Android HD). Now running a clean system, without all the residual crap from applications (that took up 4GB of space!).
Will this super wipe android HD also wipe the efs folder and nandroid backup or are these in a separate partitions and remain untouched?
Thanks

As what I have read, it wipes whatever a full wipe will and should not wipe nandroid backups.. However I have not used it before and it's better to wait for confirmation from someone who used it.

I can confirm it doesn't wipe the efs partition - as that could well and truly screw up your phone, especially if you didn't have a backup stores somewhere.
Superwipe wipes your data, cache, preloaded and system partitions - pretty much your entire internal sd card, if I'm not mistaken. I really like the megawipe tool that's been mentioned here too. You should give that a try when next updating.
As to the backups - I've no idea. It all depends on where the backups are created. I think CWM backups are created in data partition which would mean that if you did super wipe they'd also be deleted.
I never back up though so I can't be 100% sure as I've never needed it.

Im in the omega rom installation process and there is the option to NO full wipe or FULL wipe, under full wipe it says "user data will be deleted". Does that mean my photos, videos, music, etc will be deleted?

user data = all apps data (e.g. save games), but I think the SDCard will be not wiped, hence if your photos, music etc. is on your SDCard you are save. Usually full wipe is equal to factory reset.

Always better to save it on external media.!
It only wipes the old Rom. It won't touch your storage

Hi,
I have CM7.2.0-RC1 installed on my Droid X2 (latest right now). The phone has gotten kind of laggy and I want to reformat the phone. And by reformatting, I want to my phone to be like I JUST installed CM7. Is there a simple way to do this since I'm already on CM7?
Thanks!
If you want to make it like a fresh install of CM7, boot into recovery and do a factory reset. This will wipe all your apps though.

i keep all of my pictures and such on the root of my external sd card. if you do the same, wiping data will not erase your pictures.

Great, thanks so much to both of you!
Go in to settings do factory reset . yes it will wipe all the data in your internal memory including pictures and videos. If you don't want to lose your data so synchronized phone and backup data.

again, any pictures you want to make sure you keep, put them on the root of your external sd card somewhere safe, and wipe through recovery.
sorry this post made no sense to me and i wanted to avoid confusion. any images saved in camera apps folders may or may not be erased. move them to somewhere safe.
I have wiped data/factory reset many times from cwm bsr and have never lost any of my pictures. Fyi, wiping or resetting doesn't touch DCIM folder on your internal storage, which is where your phone saves them to by default if you select internal storage. I have some on both my external and internal storage and have never lost any of them. Again, wiping doesn't touch the folders where your pictures are stored. Unless of course you format your sd card in bsr.

It seems that factory resetting using a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP won't remove pictures.
I know this is a stupid question, but since I'm preparing my device to android 4.3, so I think its still better to ask before doing anything. After performing a factory reset, will all the apps installed in my device be deleted? What about those stored in internal sd and external sd? Everything will be gone? Also is there any way to backup my calendar entry? I'm using 'cal', well sometimes S planner, and I stored all the calendar entry in my device, not syncing with my email account. Thank you so much!
Factory reset will delete anything.
Sync your calendar to Gmail, easiest way.

I heard that there are two kinds of reset, one is factory reset (which is a 'lighter' reset) from the setting menu and another is hard reset from the boot menu. I know hard reset will wipe everything, including apps installed, and the same goes to factory reset?
Both will wipe all your apps and settings, only difference is a reset from recovery won't format your internal sd card.
