Automatic restoral of apps from the market? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Does anyone else's gmail acct/LTE automatically restore their apps from the Play store after a fresh install of a Rom? Mine doesn't! Is there a setting I need to check?
Thanks

It's blocked by sense for some reason, I've never had sense retrieve anything backed up to the market. Android has had app back up for quite a while now but some OEMs disable it. I don't see why, pretty stupid to me

Maybe try clearing dalvik and cache, check and see if there's anything in sync options to re enable app market sync. Like I said though, never had a sense phone support it, but those were stock rom lol

If you are using MeanROM just dirty flash as Mikey suggests and everything should be there when you reboot

Blame the Data Wars (limited data) really. :/

True, but but they can always limit restore to wifi only

What's the best way to backup and restore from EVO 4G to EVO 3D?

I'm sure google will do its part but it only restores my contacts, calender, & gmail I believe. I usually use Titanium Backup to restore my apps+settings but it will not work since my 3D won't be rooted.
What's the best non rooted app that will backup and restore my apps+settings from my EVO to the EVO 3D?

honestly just bite the bullet and restore everything from the market and sdcard and set everything back up . to prevent troubles
Lets first think about rooting before moving the rooted files over lol.
waiting patiently for root to occur first.. then, load up all the apps and data FRESH.
U want a clean install, not a move.
yeah, guess you're right. forgot quite a few of my apps only work if rooted. not just TB. so other than manually writing down what apps I have installed, whats best to use to reinstall my apps (without their settings)

Use Titanium Backup on the Evo to "send data" ( list of all your apps) to your email. open it on the 3D. As a little reminder when market borks.

+1, I was going to sat the same, it can restore apps, app data or both, also miscellaneous data like SMS, mms, Calender, music play lists, bookmarks...etc... It works great, rooted or not....

AppBrain can help, you can create a list of apps and restore to your new phone.
Honestly, though, for a new install, the Android Market does a great job now of installing. Go to My Library (I believe) and you will have a list of your apps. Just click to install each one you want on your new phone. I found that if you queue up too many at once, you might get an error, but that was on my OG EVO, so it may have had to do with memory limitations more than the process. This doesn't give you a listing of currently installed, so if you have too many extra apps that you have removed from your previous phone, you might have a bit of sorting to do.
Iv e been playing with this method of reinstalling with my last few ROM changes and it works just about as well as TB or anything else (assuming you know what apps you're installing). I guess it's a little trickier if you have apps from different sources (Amazon, etc.)
I doubt hes very worried about re installing all his apps, thats fairly easy. logining into all the services/apps you use is the annoying part. as far as I know, only a rooted app can restore that type of data, which is unfortunate.

I'd be wary of letting any of the backup apps restore services, bluetooth pairing, etc. across devices. Might be okay, but if it's not, you'll probably have wasted a lot more time fixing it than doing it the sure way the first time.

I'm really hoping we can get a soft root this weekend, perhaps by the folks over at unrEVOked who released the initial soft root for the OG EVO.

It only transfers contacts from the evo 4g.
MyBackup Pro transfers everything over, but I lost nearly all of my app settings. By the time we get root I'll already have all of my settings restored manually. Getting my saved game files from titanium will be nice though.
Wait, MyBackup won't restore app data? So how the hell will I be able to restore my Angry Birds progress?

Google backup

How can I reinstall it in a Rom that the maker removed it?
Can't find any info on this.
Sent from my PG8610000 using Tapatalk
Umm, well if you don't have a link to the zip file anymore, there is no way to install it. You will have to ask around and see if anyone has a copy of that zip file still.
if you just mean the built in google sync then you just have to install a google apps zip that will work with your rom to add all of google's stuff (including the sync/backup software)
I am specifically talking about the backup that takes place only when you start the phone for the first time.
After you sign in with your google account for the first time it asks if you would like to keep your phone backed up with google.
Many people don't like this feature because it reinstalls apps you had installed previously, but I like it becuase it reinstalls all and any WiFi passwords you have entered in your phone before.

Aww man I hate to say but I have to.
There's an app for that lol. Jk seriously though you could just make a notepad doc with your wifi pw and drop it on your sd and change the ext to jpeg and zip it. To view just unzip and change ext's. I've always done this since I've discovered rooting my phone. Its a few extra steps but worth it Imo.

I really prefer just letting Google backup reinstall all the passwords . I mean most runs leave this feature in, but I would like to re add it to miks as I really love his ROM minus the fact that he removed Google backup in the latest update.

VCast uploading media without permission?

My wives phone nightly is attempting (and succeeding) to backup her entire music library, pictures and videos to their server. We've disabled the sync and we're not subscribed to Vcast. It wouldn't be a huge problem except that her line isn't unlimited data and she's barely under her data allowance each month. I'm unlimited and I still don't use near the data her phone claims she does. I'm on XDA so you know I'm VERY data intensive. Comes with the territory right? Has anyone else ran into this problems? If so do you have any solutions?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
Is the phone rooted?
If so, just delete the VCast files from /system/app
Alternately (and probably safer if possible) you can try to see if you can "disable" any VZW services that you're not using by going to Settings > Apps > All Apps. Find the Vcast service app (and also probably HTC Media Upload Service), select them, and hopefully the "Disable" button is available for those apps.
Disable button is a benefit of having a 4.0 and above ROM. Unfortunately I've not rooted these phones so it's not even an option. Good suggestion though.

Ahh, boo. You're right.
OK, so go into the accounts section in settings and make sure the HTC account is disabled and none of the services are set to sync. I can't remember the GB interface off the top of my head so I can't be more specific right now, sorry..
But without root, you'll likely have to figure out how to shut the service down via its interface in the settings menu.
The basic info/solution tech support offered was to watch when it attempts to start and disable data. She could find no logical reason for it to act like it is .

That hardly seems like a solution. So basically they say you have to babysit your phone and disable data when it tries to do something you haven't told it to do?
If it were me, I'd bite the bullet and wipe it. Hopefully she used the Google services for contacts and stuff instead of VZWs so most everything should automatically come back. I'd rather spend a day restoring my phone than have to bother with monitoring it all the time because its acting up for unknown reasons..
Might as well take this as your opportunity to unlock the bootloader and root it too, since the unlock process forces you to wipe the phone anyways..
Plus once you unlock it, you can use Amon Ra to do nandroid backups and then your phone is forever protected from stupid things like this, as long as you backup every now and then.
Go to settings > accounts & settings . Look for any Verizon or vcast account, you click it, unchecked box for "backup music"
Just unlock it and put ICS on!
Problem solved.
Did she go on to her My Verizon page on the Verizon website? I noticed this new Vcast cloud feature when I was changing features on my phone's service last night. (I removed wifi Hotspot since the Hotspot app on the Rezound doesn't work properly and they ain't gonna fix it anytime soon.) Under the features section their are several cloud options. The default 500 megabytes options is Free and was already active on my features even though I don't remember activating it. However, there was an option to remove this feature. Might be worth a try.

"Unsupported Device" Google Wallet works JUST FINE!

Yeah, I even ran the RUU that Football posted, without wiping my Google Wallet data first. Why? Because I did it before the thread was posted.
I followed the directions that were posted here, and my Google Wallet worked fine. Then I rooted, and made this video!
I flashed viperboys de odexed and it messed up my wallet .
Than realized I backed it up via titanium restored data and it was perfect well says not supported device but 10$ is back

I don't think anyone made the claim that unsupported error made your wallet not work. The error everyone is talking about is the "secure element has stopped working" which is a complete different one and it DOES mean that you will NOT be able to use the secure NFC capabilities ever.
The Unsupported Device error only comes up when you have root and has no effect on functionality.
EDIT: While this is awesome and shows people that the unsupported error is nothing, anyone that wants to keep wallet functionality and flashes ROMs should do the following before flashing anything:
Launch Google Wallet
Hit menu button> Settings> Reset Google Wallet

Here (and my Reply). There are SEVERAL more, and I could spend all day finding posts like I qouted and linked to above. THAT'S WHY I made the video. Not because of the whole (NOT RESETTING GOOGLE WALLET) Thing, and then it not wanting to work. I just stated that I ran the RUU without resetting google wallet, followed directions, and got it to work just fine. Have I made my point?
All it probably means is that google will not secure problems with unsupported devices. So basically if your rooted and you use google wallet they want none of the liability. You SOL if you loose your phone.
no se error
So I acadently forgot to reset my wallet before wiping my system and data like 5 time and I booted everytime and I forgot to reset it before flashing vipers Rom and I have yet to receive that error. So is everyone that says it get broken have proof on the EVO or are they going on the proff from the nexus?

Someone has to supply an edited apk from the root of the file system you then over write the file and change the permissions and reboot, of course some one could always provide the full apk and you can uninstall the market version and install the modified. A CMX nightly is supposed to be coming out with a fix soon

Its takes patience which is why I'm surprised I didn't run into any problems. Then again I have a good grasp on most of the theory. I can very easily trouble shoot most problems with out having to read up in anything, the procedures are what vary but I can still point people in the right direction about 85% of the time
Just thought something and I need to confirm
In the Evo 4g lte themes and apps subforum here, there is a thread about wallet. There is a link there for one from modaco website. DL it, move it to system/app and set permissions to rw-r-r and reboot. Doesn't matter what ROM or version you're using. I used it on sense 1.13 and now on AOKP.
via xda premium on my AOKP'd Evo LTE
Haha that's the one I was talking about, I just didn't know how recent it is and right now I'm too lazy to hop on over and check, also nope I knew my idea wouldn't work and just had to see it through lol

Help! I tried restoring 'Contact/Calls' now I get repeating error!

I have a rooted Evo LTE on the factory ROM and everything has been fine... until just now. I decided I wanted to recover my call log from my Evo 4G backup via Titanium Backup. Now, after a reboot, I get a popup that says:
"android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Would you like to send an error report to HTC? This will help us improve our products."
The problem is that when I click 'Don't Send' it goes away but then pops up again less than a second later. It literally will continue over and over again w/o any end in sight. My phone is bork and I don't know how to un-bork it at this point. Sometimes I wish life had an 'undo' option as I don't even really care that much about my call log. I was just trying to get fancy I guess.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as my phone is pretty much useless at the moment.
I was able to navigate back to 'contacts/calls' within Titanium Backup between popups and click freeze. It froze and I no longer get those popups but I now get"
'Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped'
In addition to this I assume that my phone, contacts or something also doesn't work now that I've frozen 'Call/Contacts' but now maybe at least I can delete and restore this file with a proper working one?? Anyone??
Did you accidentally restore the Contacts/Calls application instead of the list?
You could have just synced the contacts to your gmail account on the OG EVO and they would have synced automatically on the LTE.

It wasn't the contacts I was after. All of my contacts are sync'd to Google so with the new phone I had all my contacts after logging into Google. I was just trying to restore my call log from my previous phone when all this began.
That Titanium Backup item is data only. Go back to Titanium to that line item, unfreeze, then wipe data. You should be good to go. Then maybe reboot to make sure there are no more force closes.
Edit: Actually, I may be wrong. There could be an apk with that as well. What I said above is still worth a shot, though. If it doesn't work you will have to find a way to restore that apk. Are you running a custom ROM?

That's the weird part was I thought that I did just restore the data. I'm about 97% sure that's what I selected in fact. I figured it would leave the app as is and then restore the data and bam! I'd have my call log. That's not the case. Clearing data from Titanium Backup was going to be my next step but didn't want to bork things any further. If you're saying it's safe to do I will attempt that.

No, like I said in the OP I've rooted a stock Evo LTE and that's all. Nothing else has been done.
Reboot into recovery (vol up + vol down + power and as soon as the phone powers off, let go of vol up) and fix permissions.

I agree and I need to. I need to unlock my bootloader first and I started the process but didn't have the files I needed at like step 8 or whatever it was. I guess I'll try harder to find what I need when I get some more time.
In case anyone is curious, the problem exists because you have a Facebook friend that has a birthday on February 29th. Either remove the Facebook friend or don't sync calendar data from Facebook. You will need to clear the data first and then re-sync contacts and live feed for it to work. Hope this helps. This is a bug that HTC needs to fix.
