Majorly Effed Up.. Need Help Please - HTC Rezound

Yesterday I was running Viper's ROM and it worked flawlessly. A friend added some ROM manager on my phone, and it's been screwed up ever since. I tried flashing to a new ROM, no realizing it was Clockwork recovery. I was able to get Scott ROM to somewhat boot but it restarts randomly.
Viper ROM says to make sure you don't use Clockwork recovery. How can I ensure that is no longer on my phone? Secondly, with S-ON can I get Armona or another recovery tool?
Help.. what can I do to get the phone back to normal?
Greatly appreciate any help to restore my phone back.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think you can flash amon ra through bootloader and reinstall ROM from there.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda premium

get the RA 3.15 recovery image file. rename to recovery.img and move it to where fastboot is on your PC assuming you have the sdk/tools/drivers configured like you would for using adb. reboot to bootloader for fastboot-usb when your usb cord is plugged in. the command is "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" without the quotes and you'll be back in business

Fastboot flash this to get amonra recovery back. Make sure you WIPE before you set up your next rom for no issues

At work they shut off the ability to charge via USB. Found an alt source.
The phone now boots up, but randomly restarts.

Want to make sure have the steps right.
Have a macbook, does this need to be done on a pc?
In recovery mount USB.
Put the file on the root (not in a folder)
Get to the fastboot menu and execute.
Please correct

Not sure if you need it or not, but I have a zip file that contains AmonRa 3.15. You can install it as a PH98IMG in bootloader. It is what I use to re-install AmonRa when needed. Apparently, I do not have enough posts to attach it so PM me your e-mail address if you would like me to send it to you.

pmgreen, it looks like Roman and the guys above took good care of you already but if you're still having problems I would be glad to do a remote session and help you get it straightened out.
Unfortunately friends can wreak havoc on your phone with things like this, but we will make sure you get all fixed up.

CharliesTheMan, thanks for the offer I greatly appreciate it. Thought the battery issue was resolved, but now it doesn't want to turn back on
Friend meant well, but lesson learned.
Will definitely take you up on the generous offer if there isn't success.

I took the file from Roman but got the following error: main version is older update fail rezound
On a MAC I tried to fastboot using the recovery file, but getting an error "Waiting on device to respond"
Silly question, I used the MAC to root a Nexus 7 and used a different PC for the rezound
Do you need to use the same computer to ABD?

Good news, I'm up and running. Flashed SetMainVersionLOW.zip then the recovery from Roman.
When I go into recovery no longer see that hat.
Thanks so much for your help.. really appreciate it and hope I help out some time too

Glad to hear that you are back up and running!

[Q] Lost and totally confused about S On 1.5

I did my research on how to install ROMS with a locked S On and Kernels, but just got even more confused about the process. I am coming from an Evo 4g CDMA.
I have H BOOT 1.5 unlocked S ON. My back up was lost. I tried to flash something like the newest MIUI using TWRP 1.1. w/e. I can't get past the boot screen for MIUI. As I was reading up on the forums, it seemed to me that you had to use a program called Flash Image GUI to get a kernel going on a ROM. Though, here is where I was confused. If a ROM has a kernel in it and I flash the ROM, does the Kernel part of that flash not get set up as well?
Would I need to flash the rom like normal from the SD Card then use something separate to flash a Kernel? If so, I am kinda boned. I can't get into the phone, just the recovery and can't get that program installed on the phone Trying to flash up Xplode now to see if maybe I just got a bad download.
If these questions were answered, please forgive me, I did try to find the answers, but as I read up more and more, it was getting to be more and more confusing to my personal issue at hand.
Thanks for the help!!
If you grab the kernel from your Miui zip, it's in the zips root called boot.img
Put that into your folder with your fastboot exe
Boot into bootloader the same as when you flashed the CWM
Use fastboot command... fastboot flash boot boot.img
this will flash the kernel and you should be able to boot up properly
Oh, well that is the problem. I had someone else flash TWRP for me. Guess I need to find out more on how to flash up that to get the kernel going. This S On thing is a massive PITA, lol. Guess once I get the phone up and going and I can use that program, things will be way easier

I see. i skipped the how to part since i thought you had alrady flashed the CMW your self, it's fairly easy.
you need..
1) to install the evo 3d usb drivers.. filename HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe .sorry i don't have a link, i got them off these forums somewhere
2) you need the fastboot.exe , again search google/these forums
then shut down your phone
pull battery out, then back in
hold down volume- (minus) and then hold the power button as well, only let go once in the bootloader, choose the fastboot option then insert usb cable to phone->pc .. you should see fastboot-usb message come up on your phone
then you can type out that fastboot command in the previous post from a dos command prompt, from the directory with your fastboot exe and boot.img
It's easier to put rom you want on the SD card make sure debug is on.
Adb reboot bootloader . Now
Fastboot boot recovery.img now wipe and flash rom you are good to go man. Works flawless .

What I did, which can help out other 3D noobs is this:
Since I just unlocked and have no back up, my kernel was still stock
Downloading a stock rom and moving it to my phone via comp, twrp recovery mode>> USB Toggle allows you to connect to PC! Put the rom on the main part of the SD card and just flash like normal.
Here you should be able to boot up like normal again.
Let me say, Flash Image GUI is a noobs friend till you can learn to use adb more.
I was told you can put a Rom on your card and just flash allowing the kernel to flash as well. I have not had success with this with HBoot 1.5 S On.
Flash Image GUI:
Download the rom you want, Aosp to Sense is fine.
Open Flash GUI and choose the Browse option.
Locate your rom on your card and choose it.
The app will give you a message saying the rom is big yada yada, say yes.
Wait a few moments as it finds the kernel. Once it does, choose flash Image.
Choose reboot recovery and flash the exact rom you picked with the App. Reboot and win.
This is just what I, a noob, have found to work.
I have NOT been able to just flash any rom on the SD Card and have it work. Flash Image UI has NOT been able to get Virus' Rom to load
A's I find more noob friendly tips I can report.
Thanks everyone else for the input! I won't lie, I came from an Evo 4g and am totally lazy as I am used to S Off and just flashing away. S On, I hate you. ADB, I fear you. Flash Image GUI, I want to marry you!
CDMA 3D, I wish we had more AOSP lol
Hope this helps out some people.

ADB is pretty simple to flash with lol
All you do is keep a copy of the recovery.img you are using in your adb folder...
You hold shift down right click on the folder that adb is in platform tools folder is where it's at say open cmd prompt to it. That is the fast painless method
Make sure you have a rom on your sd card.... Also that debug is turned on...
Plug phone in hook to computer...
ADB:
adb reboot bootloader
now:
fastboot boot recovery.img takes you into recovery...
Now wipe don't wipe SD card...
Flash rom your set works on virus roms and any other rom 0 issues
Also Flash GUI works for everyone nothing wrong with it....
I just prefer Good Old Adb to do my work If you need any help feel free to ask man.. I'll do what I can to help ya out if you get stuck..

You can not flash some ROMS through ADB/Fastboot with s-on, it just doesn't work no matter which way you go about it. Flashing a recovery is easy but that was not the OP's problem. The "noob" way that the OP suggested is the only way to get roms with custom boot.img in the zip to stick. I just installed CM9 and ADB/fastboot was of no use. Getting into recovery is easy but will not provide results unless you have used FlashImageGUI.apk first on a working ROM.
Nether CWM nor TWRP work to flash such ROM's with the right boot.img. You must use FlashImageGUI.apk!

Dah da dat ta ta! (Swoops in with my 2 cents)
See the Guide/Flashing Notes in my signature for a walkthru for flashing roms, recoveries, etc. All up to date. Choose your method: fastboot & recovery or flashimage & recovery.
Note: TWRP 2.0 with Dumlock is a workaround to avoid using fastboot (pc). FlashImage is not a requirement, its also a workaround vs fastboot.

There is the HBOOT downgrade. I have ZERO linux experience whatsoever and thought the process was very easy. I know it says to 'brick' the phone, but it is honestly not that scary. I have done two of these already both being successful on the first attempt. The live cd by closeone actually takes care of almost everything, except for actually doing the brick. Trust me being on 1.40 s-off is much much nicer.

Maybe I might have a shot at storing my EVO 3d. I was running meanrom. Everything was running smoothly but I decided to give ViperROM a shot. So I d a wipe, rebooted into recovery and flashed ViperROM. Initially I thought everything had gone according to plan until I realized something was amiss when I attempted to start 4g. 4g wouldn't start. I did some looking into and came to tonclusion that because as far as I could tell because I had been running meanrom when I flashed viper the kernel no longer stock was not compatible with viper. So I started flash image GUI, found stockkernel.zip on my sd card and flashed or so I thought the stock kernel in hopes that after I did then the 4g would work on ViperROM. Well I was mistaken. When the phone rebooted, after the initial HTC screen rather than next seeing the ViperROM boot animation my screen went black. It remained there laughing at me till the phone automatically rebooted and then once again went to a darn black screen. It seems my phone is stuck in an endless loop. HTC screen, black scree reboot, HTC... Ect. I then booted into recovery wiped again and tried to then just reinstall meanrom. Well, according twrp recovery the installation went smoothly but after HTC screen, my phone goes straight to black screen. Ive tried various variations of reinstallations and nothing has worked so far. Am I stuck like this or is there something that can be done. Any pointers or suggestions would be more than appreciated

Your phone is alright and working , dont worry.
..............................................................................
I am assuming you are unlocked via htcdev.com .
Follow the steps:
Copy the img file of the recovery you are using to the fastboot/adb folder (folder which you have used to unlock the bootloader).
1.Now boot your phone in bootloader
2.Select Fastboot and connect to PC.(phone should say "fastboot-usb")
3.now open command prompt and navigate to your fastboot folder.
4.Type "fastboot boot <recovery name>.img". Your recovery should boot now.
5.Wipe everything , and install any ROM you want.
6.Then reboot your phone as normal and your problem should be solved.
7.If you get stuck at HTC screen or that black screen , just open the zip file of the ROM that you've just flashed and copy the boot.img file to your fastboot/adb folder > then boot your phone into bootloader > select fastboot > connect to PC > in command prompt type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" > then reboot.
Hope this helps........
Did you make a nand backup before you flashed vipers rom? Or do what he said ^^^^^^^
Did you look in the meanrom folder on ur SD card. Inside of there is the stock kernel. Second try to flash cleanROM and see if that helps. And if that doesn't work, look for the modifiedsuperwipe.zip. if all else fails..... I had the boot loop a while a go. All I did was flash the modifiedsuperwipe.zip and then flashed the ROM of choice and i was good to go. Hope this helps a lil
I'm stumped
So I did the modified wipe. I thought it was going to be smooth sailing well, I plugged in the phone and went to fast boot tried sending my phone a command line but it hangs on waiting for device. So now I'm stuck wondering wtf. No go on fastboot commands for now that is unless someone has an idea on that. Is there a way to perhaps browse root from recovery and transfer the boot image from my sd card to the folder in needs to. Go to? Or can I mount as a usb storage device and move the boot.img file to where it needs to go from the computer. I'm so desperate to fix this issue without surrendering to defeat and bringing it somewhere for someone else to do it. Hell I probably can't afford it if I have to. Whelp, if you have any thoughts I'm grateful. Thanks for the assistance thus far fellas. When bootloader loads it says I believe loading PG86DIAG.zip no image found if that means any more to any of you. I also tried reinstalling meanrom. I booted into recovery via hold power +. Volume up then choose recovery. Twrp loads. Choose meanrom zip flash image. According to twrp this goes down swell with not a problem but when I boot to system still I get the black screen. It mocks me still.
oh yes. Probably worth mentioning. Today I was working from a bit installation of windows. It was a pain on the as o get the adb drivers workingnet but finally found something called pdapal installed it and it got things squared away or so I thought on the windows drivers side of things. So in device manager there are no errors and it says the android device is working properly now alert symbols over the driver or anything but still can't get the phone to accept fastboot commands.

Are you sure you are accessing fastboot from bootloader ? By your words, it seems like you are checking fast boot in settings> power
Does the bootloader say fastboot-usb? If not select it and press power.

Still Trying
Yeah, I'm definitely in fastboot through bootloader. Yes it says fastboot usb. I think despite the fact that it says drivers are installed properly in device manager there might still be some kind of driver issue. I'm away from home and don't have access to. My usual computers? I'm stuck on an installation of windows 7 64bit. Originally I was having issues getting the right drivers installed and so I installed pda net and that seemed to solve the issue in device manager but I'm still having issues. If there's some recovery I could flash which would allow me toove boot.img to the right path manually that might be a way I could solve this. Hell, I'll give anything a try. So that's where I am so far. Any advice on what I might be doing wrong or where I might go from here?
hboot 1.5 s-on
I've got the same specs as you save the rom and kernel. @ itzloltraim.
I did try flashing clockwork mod using rom manager before my phone started having issues but even though rom manager said it flashed when I booted to recovery next twrp was still there. Is there somewhere I can download a flashable zip from? I couldn't find one last time I looked. From what I remember the Dev Site Links to rommanager to get it. If you have a link that would be a help.

Yea, I have the same problem...
I was running MeanROM4.1 with the dodava kernel. Being an idiot I flashed the new Anthrax kernel and now my phone gives me a black screen. When the phone starts up, theres no lock ring. Ive been trying to flash another kernel but i dont seem to be doing it properly. im using 4ext as recovery.
Im currently performing a Superwipe then factory reset. Ill reply with my findings. Good thing I backed up at MeanROM3.91, but if I cant get my screen to work...shall I assume bricked?
**problem solved. I flashed a kernel using the fastboot method. Someone posted it and it worked fine for me.**

Need Help Recovering Factory

Hello all,
I had the CWM installed, and my phone died when I was asleep, down to 0%.
Now, it won't charge. I got a half charged battery in today, so I'll be able to do some things.
The phone is S-off.
Anyways, I would like to know how I would be able to:
-Remove CWM
-Recovery EVERYTHING to factory default
Also, I'm kind of a noob, so when it comes to telling me to let's say "flash amonra", please tell me how, or link to thread or something. If you can.
All help is appreciated...If I don't get this fixed I won't have a phone for a couple years.
Also, a tip: HTC Keeps track of those who unlock the bootloader on their phone, and tell Verizon. Which is how they find out even if you reflash, relock, etc.
First thing to do is get rid of that recovery! Soo many issues and you can use either the TWRP 2.1.1 recovery or AmonRA 3.15 (located in the dev threads). CWM causes phone charging issues (as you are aware) and I recommend not using it.
Are you familiar with flashing a recovery in fastboot? Were you running GB or ICS firmware?
I suggest you familiarize yourself with all the root lingo contained in this thread.

I believe you would use the command "fastboot flash recovery [file].img".
I wasn't running the IceCreamSandwich update, pretty sure of that. So it must be the GB. I would like to know how to remove the CWM.

Yes that command is correct you just have to make sure the recovery file is in same folder as your fastboot.exe.

Well, I fixed it. Or at least it seems. All I had to do was flash the latest RUU (which was actually the currently installed rom on my phone).
Well, hopefully clockworkmod is GONE.

CWM was great on my Incredible...but I've had the same problem you did with charging issues, not to mention backups that would freeze in mid stream.
Flashing a RUU was the only way I could find to fix it.

The story began last night when my Rezound stopped working. I first turned on my phone upon my arrival at the U.S after a month stay in Europe. I always kept my phone on airplane mode when traveling around Europe. Using wifi I managed to use my phone. When I arrived home and turned my airplane mode off after a month, my phone shut off. My phone then kept trying to turn on again, but then it shut off as soon as i attempted to make my pattern to unlock phone.
Knowing a little about Androids, I know that this issue can be easily fixed. The only mods that my phone currently has are: HTC Unlock, Clockmod recovery and Root (S/ON i believe not sure though). I was thinking on flashing a new ROM while I'm at it. After a long research I decided that i want to flash TEAM BAMF 2.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1519052
Here are the some Questions that i have:
1. Will this work having HTC Boot Unlocked?
2. Will this work with CLOCKMOD recovery or should i use AMON RA? How can i flash AMON RA to use instead of clockmod?
3. Do I need the new HTC Rezound Release Candidate RUU with firmware upgrades?
http://www.teambamf.net/index.php/topic/3528-guide-to-install-ics-ruu-and-firmware-windows/
4. Will this erase my personal data?
5. Is there a simple fix to my problem?
These are the questions that i have. If you could please help me by giving me recommendations, or steps i should follow to fix my phone. Please let me know if I am approaching my issue correctly by installing TEAM BAMF, and following their steps! This would be very much appreciated!

1. Will this work having HTC Boot Unlocked?
yes
2. Will this work with CLOCKMOD recovery or should i use AMON RA? How can i flash AMON RA to use instead of clockmod?
flash amonra-3.15. download the amonra recovery file. put it in your folder with adb. reboot you phone into fastboot with the phone connected to your computer. open a command prompt and CD to the folder with the recovery image. type fastboot flash recovery NAMEOFYOURRECOVERYFILE.img
3. Do I need the new HTC Rezound Release Candidate RUU with firmware upgrades?
http://www.teambamf.net/index.php/to...mware-windows/
no i dont believe you do, i would ask on the team bamf forum.
4. Will this erase my personal data?
IF you upgrade your firmware it will wipe the internal memory
5. Is there a simple fix to my problem?
follow my instructions

how did you install CWR?
adb is on your computer. well at least it should be. CD is a dos command that tells the computer where to find a file. you just type CD and the directory in which you want to work from. for example when i open the command prompt it says C:\. i typed cd C:\android-sdk\adb and then the prompt changes to C:\android-sdk\adb and i can run my fastboot commands. your directory will be different depending on where you installed adb on your computer
and dont be sorry. everyone was a noob at some point.
I installed CWR using ROM Manager.apk
Okay, thanks for the clarification, so for now I will follow your steps, and follow these steps from teambamf.net/index.php/topic/3528-guide-to-install-ics-ruu-and-firmware-windows
Ill let you know how things go as soon as all files finish downloading!
THANKS for the help!
What would be the way to resolve my boot issue without flashing a new Rom? Would I have to do a factory reset?

you mean reboots after switching out of airplane mode? no idea. if you are completely stock i would take it to verizon and get it replaced. if you are running some ROM i would reflash it.

No it reboots every time it turns on. It started when i tried turning Airplane mode off. Since then it will go into a boot loop every time it turns on and tries to load the home screen. My phone has no insurance, can verizon wireless still give me a new one? I also did htc unlock doesn't that void warranty?

I would flash an RUU first and reset everything and see what happens. Then go from there. If the phone still reboots, call Verizon and ask for a replacement. If not then start over.

Flash the kernel. It sounds like you didn't read the instructions in the OP of the ROM you flashed.

[Q] I need major help please!!!

Last night I was able to unlock my bootloader on my rezound. And I installed Amon Ra recovery. I did a nand backup before I made any other choices from there. But I don't know if I was perm rooted. But I installed su and busybox. well I went ahead and installed Rom Manager just to start out with instead of using amon recovery.
Through rom manager I had to flash clockwork mod. did that. so I thought i was ready to go with flashing a ROM. well I downloaded a ROM through my phone. but it wasn't on my sd card. so i pulled the notifications down on my phone and just clicked the downloaded ROM and it said what would you like to do with it? I clicked the rom manager option. cleared dalvik and cache n all. Everything said installed successfully. well it just stayed on the htc screen FOREVER. so i pulled battery and tried to recover my backup. well now that i have clockwork as recovery. my backup isn't on my phone. I can't even use clockwork now. I can't get my phone to boot at all. I don't think my phone is bricked cuz I can get into the bootloader menu. But i can't get my phone to boot back up at all whatsoever
So I was either not rooted like I thought I was or something. I can't even factory reset through bootloader. it just takes me back to clockwork mod and everytime i click an option through cwm it goes blank. every single option. I need my amon recovery back somehow so i can restore my backup....please somebody help me out. I hope its not bricked. Thanks
You need to flash the boot.img from fast boot if you're not s-off

Your firmware is probably still GB, Newt's is for ICS. There is a patch allows you to use his ROM on a GB firmware base. So, over on MikMIk possibly, is this patch you need. Flash it in recovery, just like you would a ROM.
Here found a helpful link, look at PRDOG's post. He rocks... Depending on which release of Newt's ROM you are on, he also has a RLS 3.2.1 which is also a patch. Sorry it is a little confusing. But stick with it. Lots of people to help you. You don't need to flash the 3.2.1 patch, just the GB one.
