flashing epic 4g touch using samsung player rom - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

i got the s3 now but I want to flash my epic 4g touch using samsung galaxy player. Is it possible? I don't need the phone feature. I want a device that is just for media player. uses less space and less bloatware.

It will probably brick your device. Just disable the phone and messaging apps and then you have a galaxy player like device

I happen to have the same device. You could simply disable Phone and MMS, or delete the apks from /system/app.

You could just get Titanium Backup and freeze the related backs. I think installing the rom would be better idea but it could be more dangerous. Maybe there's an app to disable the antenna?

I did tried installing the galaxy rom on my s2 but it freeze on the bootup screen. I also tried taking out some apk and installing it again but it would freeze on google wizard apps. That's what I want. I want to disable everything thats is for the phone and turn my s2 into a media player.

does your phone still boot up without error? I uninstall the phone and mms using titanium backup and it still gave me error every 2 seconds.

If the phone is not activated and there is no sim, all of those operations should be disabled. Freezing the dialer and mms should be irrelevant. But if it is a problem, try using the phone info app and disable your radio. Should stop any wake locks and signal searching, which is what is probably happening.

It will hardbrick your device if you flash a rom not meant your device. Just disable the phone features, delele the apk files using root uninstall or titanium back up or simply just ignore it lol. I would just flash an epic 4g touch rom on it to be honest.

I finally was able to disable the radio on my phone and still keep my wifi on. My battery last longer and my kids can played with it knowing that they can't accidently dial 911. Thanks for the help!

Lol most of what you ask comes with flashing custom roms and kernels. I guess you can start by exploring root only apps...?

Try System Tuner (free on the market)
adjust clock speed when the phone is on standby. You will see a significance in battery. Or you can try a different battery app. Explore your options.

highly recommend titanium backup on the market it's worth the price...you can get rid of bloatware with it too, and back up and and all programs and their data...
the person above is right, system tuner is a good program, but I don't know how it'll do with the stock kernel, if you downclock your phone you might start to see some lag...if you do decide to do that make sure you go to boot settings in system tuner and make sure set cpu on boot completion so everytime your phone restarts you don't have to reset the settings you put in system tuner..
honestly the best way to get a better battery life is don't install a lot of junk and you can also use the program juice defender...
install badass battery program and see what is sucking up the battery...
good luck

Hello,
Similar situation here. Rooted my Droid Razr Maxx today to remove the Verizon bloatware. I only did this because they where insisting I update their apps and give them more permissions and I didn't use them either.
I'm not looking to use a custom rom or anything, just wanted to remove those apps. I did use the backup option on each app prior to deleting it.
The Beginners guide suggests I add CWM. Is this really needed for my situation or should I get this setup as well? I won't be loading any roms and plan to stick with the default one. I am fine with it just wanted the bloatware to be gone.
I would've flashed a recovery first. Just because you can make a backup and reflash it just incase something goes wrong. Like removing something you shouldn't have. To each his own. But if the RZR Maxx is anything like the older Moto devices you can use RSD Lite to go back to completely stock. So since this is the HTC Amaze Forum I don't know if that option is available for the RZR. You can navigate yourself to those forums and ask over there.
Wait....I sent this with Tapatalk?

I used titanium backup to backup the apps before I deleted them.
I haven't used TB in a long time.. But I don't think you can restore system/apps after they are removed. Unless its different now.

I have the option on the apps I removed to restore them from backup.
I have yesterday flashed ICS first time in my life, rooted it and installed titanium backup Pro (the first time too). Then I uninstalled more than forty precious pre-installed apps what definitely were placed there for my benefit and thriving...
So far everything’s running just perfect. I can’t imaging smartphone can perform better than what I hold and play in my hands. I am so happy again with my amaze.
However, I still have seven apps “frozen” in my TB. I do not understand what to do.
1. Google Backup Transport.
2. Google One Time Init.
3. Google Partner Setup.
4. Maps.
5. PC Synchronization.
6. Location Picker.
7. Network Location.
PLEASE someone who understand the meaning of the aforementioned ones advise me so I would better refrain from removing them too..
Thank You. Merci Beaucoup. Muchas Gracias. Danke.

[Q] Phone is struggling to make phone calls, com.android.phone constantly crashing

It's an EVO 4G LTE, got it when it first came out, stock. No root or anything, never even tried with this phone. Recently it's been refusing to make phone calls. I click someones name to call, the phone freezes for a few seconds or nothing happens. I get the com.android.phone has crashed messaged a lot. Also happens to my messaging app, GO SMS Pro, which crashes pretty frequently as well. What do I do?

Sounds like a lack of free memory to me... Do you have a lot of apps installed? I've never had any use for Go apps because they use a ton of memory and cause lag.
Your best bet is to open the task manager app to see what apps are using the most memory and then uninstall them.
The other alternatives are to do a factory reset to wipe your phone, or better yet, root and install a custom Rom with better memory use (meanrom is my suggestion but there are plenty of options)

If that was the case, wouldn't I not experience these problems after immediately force closing everything? Because the problem persists and is pretty random of when it shows up and doesn't.
When u install apps u give them certain permissions....so when u stop the app it could start back up

You said your phone has been refusing to make phone calls.
Perhaps if you treated your phone better it might do what you ask of it.
If it refuses any more, hard reset it and show it whos boss.
If it clears up then you know right there you had a bad app or a memory issue..

Unfortunately Music has stopped working

I rooted a about a week ago and like 3 days later I got this message whenever I tried to use the Music app that's built in. Since I couldn't restore it or anything I decided to restore the phone to factory default and start all over again. Then I rooted once again and about 3 days later I started to have the same issue, same error. Now Im using google music, but I dont like it and I can't seem to find a way to restore it.
Im running VRUAME7 update, backed everything up with titanium, but when I try to restore the app it doesnt work, I deleted bloatware from the music, but was very careful about not deleting anything that could affect the Music app, so I'm not sure what's going on, and hope that I can find an answer here.
By the way who is the maker of the Music app, I couldn't find it anywhere, but I don't think that it is Samsung.
Anyways, thanks.
Are you using xposed?

Hi ??
1.open /system
2.create a folder with this name=>preload
3.cut your smusic folder which exists in app or prive-app and paste it into preload folder
4.delete the lib and arm folder in smusic folder
5.if the music folder and its app have another name, rename both into smusic.pay attention that they need to have similar names.
6.this method only works in Rooted devices.
7.reboot your device and enjoy ☺ ☺
8.I'm not responsible for problems and another issues

The answer is the super user icon. I can't post an image because this forum has crap restrictions on new users but its there.
Google Experience Launcher:
I found a way to get most of the S5 fingerprints off of the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/themes-apps/apps-google-experience-launcher-gel-app-t2529594
Easiest way to install is to download the launcher (file size 11.82 MB). No need for the "google search app" since it is already installed.
No root required - APKs are signed by Google, are safe to install and were not tampered with in any way.
Now you have a "nexus" like phone complete with wallpaper. Camera (and other apps) as well as the system tray are still Touchwiz.
Samsung's magazine app (left of the home screen) is also replaced by "Google Now".
Best of both worlds.
In addition you can look at the thread in my sig for the ported apps directory. You can install nearly all the stock Nexus apps. Then just disable all the built in S5 ones or uninstall if rooted. Also if your rooted, im sure by using Xposed mods you can change some of the theming back to aosp.
Coming from a long line of rooted Nexus phones, I picked up an S5 primarily to get wifi calling (no service at work otherwise).
Can anyone say if the GEL removes this capability? Any other feature losses?

Wifi calling is "baked" into the firmware so changing your launcher has no affect on that. You may loose the Samsung widgets because you've changed the launcher.

Any reason to root?

Without the availability or customs roms and kernels, are there any reasons to root a Galaxy Tab S3? Which bloatware have you uninstalled in your GTS3 after rooting?
I normally install custom roms and kernels for the improved battery life and overall performance improvement that many of these roms offer.

I agree, I went back to not rooted and pray for OTA updates, even it's naive
If i ever going to root, one of the main factor would be for GMD gestures. Couple of finger swipes to close apps, lock screen, switch apps adds tremendous amount of button freedom and control.
I'm going to rooting to get complete control of memory (internal and SD) and app authorizations...

Mattered a lot more to me when Android was a lot less mature. Nowadays, Marshmallow is pretty solid. Add in Macrodroid or Tasker and call it a day. And Nova supports gestures.

Not with ADB. You'll need an app like titanium backup or adaway for ad blocking. But both need root. But you're correct, getting netflix to work is a little bit of a pita.
