Hi all, I hope you guys can help me. I am currently running Newts XXX ROM and I since I am traveling overseas I wanted to make my phone global. But I installed the wrong patch...I used the StockGSMpatch instead of the GSMpatch and now I can't get pass the HTC white screen. I tried flashing the non stock patch through recovery and it didn't work. I tried flashing the boot.img from Newts ROM and that didn't work. All I can do is get into recovery. If all else fails, I might have to wipe everything. If so, can I backup my data (like contacts) using recovery? Not sure how the nand backup works... Any help would be appreciated!
The gsm patch always requires a full wipe before installing. You gotta do that I'm afraid and then apply the patch for it to get past the bootloop.

I was afraid of that... Ok is there a way to backup my contacts and text messages without going into the OS? Or at least I can hook it up to a PC and copy my files over and figure it out later? I tried using the USB-MS toggle in Recovery, but I don't see my root files in the file explorer.

hopefully your contacts are synced with google... but other than that there's no way to save them now... and you must do a full wipe..

Try using adb from your computer.
Mass storage is for sdcard only.

You don't need the patch on Venom ROM, it automatically flashes it within the aroma installer once you choose the gsm option. So a factory reset and a reflash of the ROM should get you going.

I rooted my HTC Evo 4G LTE and flashed it to the meanROM, but I want to customize the phone with a different splash screen and boot animation. Every time I go into Recovery mode the process fails, I am not able to achieve s-off, but thought I could still make though changes. I tried ROM Toolkit Pro and it still fails. Is it possible, and what would be the steps.

What fails recovery? How are you trying to install the bootanimation? Is the splash screen one that you flash or one that requires install through bootloader.

I thought that they both are flashed from recovery, and I tried both of them in recovery. Then I tried a boot animation from ROM Toolkit Pro.

What does it do when you flash the bootanimation(blackscreen, default silver Android text, or do you get an error message in recovery. Is your recovery up to date?

The reason the ones from toolbox fail is because they flash to the wrong system folder so it wont work and for the boot anis that dude made them for a windows app he created to flash them only the ones that say flashable zip as a link that are recovery flashable

To make a long story short, I had a Evo 4G that I had rooted and had S-off, but it was stolen out of my car, so I replaced it with a Evo 4G LTE, and they updated it to 1.22.651.3 before I got a chance to do anything. So is life.
I rooted the phone and my Hboot is 1.15.0000 I am running MeanROM-ICS-v15-jewel-ltevo
Sorry bro u cant do splashes and as far as the boot ani..make sure your system is mounted as r/w and go intoo system folder find customize folder then find SPC_bootanimation.zip and android_sound.mp3 (not sure if thats right name ill double check) and move them and rename them to something else i use stock_ani.zip and stock_sound.zip then replace with the bootanimation and sound from your download and rename exactly to what they were named when removed...if that dont work pm me and ill help you out

I recieved my CLNR from verizon yesterday. Made a nandroid last night.
Today I have unlocked, rooted and now I am trying to restore my nandroid.
This is what it looks like:
x boot
x system
x data
x cache
recovery
sd-ext
x android_secure
android_secure_internalsd
perform restore
return
I hit perform restore and this is what happens
oops....something went wrong. Please check the recovery log!
What does that mean and where do I go from here?

when you go into restore in nandriod back up you get you device id before choosing which back up. each phones different. you need to use your computer and change the device id of your old nandroid backup to the same as whatever it is for your new phone then. not the backup file name, but the first one you have to choose in recovery i believe its like "HT19Xs2694" or whatever rename that to what your new phones is
Could you explain how I go about changing the ID with the computer?

K. On your new phone create a random nandroid. By creating it you will be able to get you device I'd for that phone.I'd use a spare sd of you have one so you don't get em mixed up of not just take note and don't het em mixed up. once done pull the sd out and plug it into your computer. Open your sd card locate that nandroid folder open it (you should have to click on the device I'd then pick which bavkup) just highlight right click copy text. Then Open the nandroid folder that you want to use and go to that device I'd highlight right click paste the new name over the old.. and all should be good the device I'd should match up and begin restore pm me if you have anymore problems I'll give you my gtalk and help further.

not that your wrong at all but when you say theres "no need to mess with the device id".. i say theres no need to switch recoveries if unnecessary i dont like the idea of a 'touch' recovery. this method is simple and takes all of two min if done properly

I agree. However, both are correct.
the other day i tried restoring a back up via TWRP but it didnt work until i fastboot flashed boot.img...Alright so i updated my TWRP via goomanager app to the latest version (whatever is on there via goomanager) as in the TWRP forum discussions it was stated that previous versions were not working properly wihen restoring. So today i flashed a new ROM (NOS ROM) but that didnt work so i decided what better time than now to try restoring again, no dice didnt work and i had to fastboot flash the boot img for the restore file to take and boot up just fine again...ok peeps what am doing wrong??? again im fairly new at this flashing ROMS scene but i thought witht he TWRP update i would be good to go. Am i missing some settings ticks/options/checks? i saw a check box that said "recovery" i think in the restore or back up process dont remember which process. i tried going onto the TWRP discussion but it is locked down and states that there will no longer be any support for it...should i just switch to CWM?? thanks in advance to whom ever replies

What did you have checked while making the backup? data? recovery? cache? system? and did you rename the back up?
System, data and boot are checked...I didn't mess with the options just hit restore and let it do it's thing...should I change something or check the other 2 boxes (one of them being "recovery" forgot what the other option was)?

I may have misread but did you wipe everything before loading nos? I saw what was checked for backup but not about wiping. You should wipe everything-system, then cache, then delvik cache-not exactly in that order (make SURE there IS a backup just in case). Load the rom AND flash the correct image file with adb. Also, many roms when FIRST loading up sit a long time before they start up, not sure if nos does this or not-I have been jumpy about the time sitting with a few roms when waiting was all I needed to do. I have had different Viper versions on a few times and moving to another rom was quirky each time I did so, not sure why.
NOS did that to me too. Just wait....it will load into the setup wizard. I think being s-on, which I still am...twrp isn't able to back up and restore your roms boot.img. just a guess but I to failed to restore a backup when an install went awry. Makes sense to be being that you can't install a kernel from recovery either.

I looked at the install instructions for nos, if you are s-on you need to do one extra step. You have to extract the rom into a folder somewhere to get the image file, copy the image file from it. Flash that image file using adb on your pc and THEN install the rom from your phone with goomanager. Without the image file loaded, I don't think it would work. If you are s-off this step is not needed.

I believe it will, if it had the image from the get go. I believe that the back up has everything it needs. At least my back ups have never needed an image file. I've flashed super charged hatka 320 (used that for a couple weeks) then switched over to viper...both using Flash GUI I tried using NOS but yes no dice loaded up but when I pull the unlock ring for whatever reason the splash screen comes up and it won't budge from there....and as for my original question haha TWRP did not work for me when restoring it tripped out like if it was missing the boot image (done that before so I'm familiar with that behavior haha)

If you're selling the phone or something similar, download the RUU, plug your phone in, and run the executable to get the phone in the state it comes in out of the box. This will flash the stock ROM, recovery, etc.

If you're selling the phone or something similar, download the RUU, plug your phone in, and run the executable to get the phone in the state it comes in out of the box. This will flash the stock ROM, recovery, etc.

First you need to lock the bootloader...
Then you can attempt to flash the RUU - you will succeed only if your hboot is 1.35 or lower...
Ah yea I had to do the same thing you want to flash to an odexed stock Rom before attempting the ruu otherwise you will be on an h boot boot loop the only way to get out of that is to re unlock the boot loader use hysoon 200's tool kit if your already on h boot 1.40.00 you cannot run the lower h boot you will have to go to the HTC site and download the at&t ota ruu I went through the same thing to do a warranty swap ecause my digitizer went out and no I didn't play with it even with a locked boot loader stock Rom/kernel and the ruu ran it still bas dead spots in the same places

Or if you want to keep the ROM and you still have the in lock key and the hysoons kit relock the boot loader then in lock the boot loader with the key it will erase everything but the ROM

I was attempting to update Pac-Rom when TWRP gives me various errors such as "E: unable to open zip", "Corrupt zip file", and " Can't mount cache". I have no idea what these mean. Any ideas?

No it says "E: Zip file is corrupt" for a new rom. and yes I have installed a rom with it but I've only installed one which was PAC and now I was attempting to update when all of these issues arose.

Just a thought, maybe your USB cable or adb driver is having an issue and corrupting the zip on transfer. Try re installing the driver or a different cable.

Assuming the MD5 checksum is good prior to the transfer to the phone, it is possible the file system on the phone is corrupt.
There is a recent thread on how to re-format the system....... I forgot where in the DNA forum it is.

I can't find the thread you speak of. Could you see if you can find it or remember anything about it?
Also can you tell me how to check the md5 on PAC. They are direct DLs so it doesn't give an md5.

I completely factory resetted with the RUU and it now flashes zips....just not the PAC ones because something is wrong with them.
Any ROM I try fails too. I've reset with RUU to no avail. Any ideas?

Do you still have a bootable rom, or adb connectivity? Maybe try a different recovery. The newer 4.4 roms require the newest cwm or a modified twrp... As I understand... Could be the problem
Did anyone get this fixed? I am getting the same errors on my device when flashing roms I have flashed before. 'Invalid zip file format' and 'Zip file is corrupt!' I have no bootable os and I've been bricked for nearly 2 weeks now.

Paste output from terminal session where you flashed Twrp.
I can't tell you anything from here without more information.
"can't flash" meaning errors or what?
Again, paste your terminal output from
fastboot flash recovery nameoffile.img
