Is there anyone up for the challenge of making a FULLY working ICS compatible version of SeePU / SeePU++?
All other features already work in ICS, except the one deal-breaking feature (for me at least - and is the whole reason for my post!) is the numbers in the statusbar (the small red circles with white numbers inside) - they are not working in ICS.
As far as I know, it has to do with some files (the red circles) that are in Gingerbread's framework-res.apk, but not in ICS's framework-res.apk
I'm thinking that SeePU calls upon these small circle images directly from the framework-res.apk file, and since they are not in ICS's framework, they don't show up at all.
Now, my thought was: maybe I could just Ninja/Metamorph the files needed (which I think just be the red circle images - .png files I believe) into ICS's framework-apk.res, then it would work (but again, I'm skeptical it would be this easy...)
---
Now, if memory serves me correctly, these red circles are located in Gingerbread's framework-res.apk - and I can pull them from it if someone needs them. (My OG Evo with CM7 is still working, running GB 2.3.7)
Another method I believe will work (But the coding aspect that I have no experience in doing), is by adding the circles directly into the SeePU .apk file, and have them called upon from within SeePU's .apk (as opposed to having them called upon from the framework-res.apk)
---
And I want to mention, every other aspect of this app works 100%. The only part missing (and to me, it's the biggest deal-breaker of the app that I miss the most, and the reason I haven't used this app since, is because of that. Thess red circles and white numbers inside that represent either 1.) the Total CPU RAM MB and/or 2.) the Total Network KB/s Download.
---
So please, if an experienced coder wants to help me work on this it would be greatly appreciated! - zmag
---
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: I will only provide copies of this app to serious devs/coders. (I will not be posting public links. I do not condone piracy whatsoever.) I need some sort of proof of your previous coding experience. (i.e. Any apps you've worked on etc.) before I even consider sending these app to you. ("I'll help!" is not good enough, unless I recognize you from here) - Just simple proof you are a coder and willing to help me out will suffice.
I'm asking for help because I'm sure someone here has the expertise to tackle this seemingly small project. I only want to use this is a personal version for myself and will not be releasing it to anyone. The only people that would be allowed to use this mod would be whoever helps me create it, and myself. That's IT!. Period. And again, I can't stress enough I will only provide these apps to serious devs/coders; (I would prefer people who are already familiar with this app, and already have it purchased; but I'm desperate (I really, really miss this app, and have waited for an update for far too long. Which I know 2 years have passed, so that's not going to happen.) So anyone who thinks they're up to the challenge, please respond.
This is an app I used to use religiously every day, and after having to switch to ICS (and the fact this app has been discontinued from further development) - I would greatly appreciate anyone who is willing to help accept the challenge.
I don't believe this will require a ton of work, in regards to coding etc. I really believe that the circles & numbers aren't showing up is because it's calling on files directly from the framework-res.apk file - and since they don't seem to be in ICS's framework-res.apk, that's why they aren't showing up in the statusbar. But I'm not -that- experienced with coding, so I need the help of someone(s) with more experience.
Please, thank you for reading my plea! If you're interested, I hope to see some interest from anyone who's up to the challenge! - zmag

Just a little application I've been working on to get back into programming, using xml (it uses the rss feed from icanhascheezburger.com), some image processing (scaling mainly) and threading (to make the interface able respond and update while downloading).
This is the first functional release of this program, I think without any (major) bugs. The next releases will focus on cleaning up the code to the point where I can release the source for all to tinker with.
It's built for devices with the .NET Compact Framework 3.5, so if it doesn't work, make sure you have the right version of the compact framework installed.
Features:
- resolution independant, will work on all possible resolutions (even unconventional ones) because the interface is scaled (though there is not much of an interface).
- works on both touchscreen and non-touchscreen devices: swipe left/right to switch images and tap the image to open it with the native viewer (to zoom and/or save it to disk), or do the same with the hardware dpad left/right/enter.
Ofcourse, if you find any bugs, feel free to drop a message inhere.
UPDATES:
Version 1.0.1 now available for download!
Changes:
- New right softkey menu allows for updating the RSS feed and exiting
- Left softkey brings a random lolcat for you to laugh at
Great stuff now I can haz lolz on ma fone
hahaha great app
edit: a randomization would be nice ...
Definitely gonna grab this.
But what I have been wanting is an app that lets you create your own. Take a picture, caption it (with different font syles, and placements) and save it, or send it... or even reopen it and re-edit it.
I see way too many funny things in my daily travels, and wanna share it.
Screens would be nice.
nice tiny 14k app
the other day i came across a 250k app that just turns wifi on/off. kudos mate
rofl i always wondered where to get these picz, now i has da link
nice app, hilarious indeed
Great app!
I was going to point out a bug where the latest post wasnt showing in the app, but I checked and it seems that it's not in the rss feed so it's all good.
I'd love to see the source code, I'm working on an app which would really benefit from being able to swipe left and right between forms, and I'm interested in how the images are scaled. If it's not too much trouble, I'd love to have a peek at it
Excellent idea!
Im am sorry in advance, but I just HAD to... ^Yº

Actually, I think I just had a brainwave - I'm going to play about with MouseUp and MouseDown and recording MousePositon to detect a gesture.
It worked, thanks for the inspiration
WOW Great idea I always wanted a wall mounted screen dedicated to lolcats, until that happens pocket size will do
Thanks all for the replies. I doubted if I should post this as I only made it as a test for myself, but now I'm glad I did. In the next few days I'll be cleaning up the code, and per request I'll add a random lolcat-function.
Oh, and StarMonkee: that's exactly what I did, when MouseDown is triggered I record the position, and when MouseUp is triggered I check the difference and if the difference is bigger than 20 (or something like that) I go to the next, if it's smaller than -20 I go to the previous. If it's in between those two the movement is not big enough and it's recognized as a tap. I'm not sure on if the values were 20 and -20, but it's something like that I think
Tank Yuz berry mush

thanks for this app, i effin LOVE lolcats....

Thanks for sharing this great little app!

I really like that there are now plugins for emoji for the major text messaging apps like Go EX Messaging and Handcent. I'm able to use them with friends and family who use iPhones and it works well. What I found irritating though is that text notifications for messages I receive end up as boxes where the emoji are supposed to be. Same with when I look at my text in the stock text messaging app.
Here's where this font mod comes in. It turns this:
{

Into this:
I found another project here that did something similar. The guy took an existing Japanese font and just pasted the emoji data from there. The problem with that is that the source images were really terrible. I think they were color images converted into font data... Very poorly. I couldn't tell what half the emoji were, even after I was told what they were supposed to be.
With emoji being integrated into official unicode recently, it was possible to find nice glyphs to represent exactly almost all the softbank encoded emoji:
http://www.unicode.org/~scherer/emoji4unicode/snapshot/utc.html
Thanks go to the maker of the Symbola font where most of the unicode standard emoji glyphs have been incorporated. It gave me a repository of glyphs from which to "borrow".
Unfortunately, unicode encoding does not equal softbank encoding. What that meant for me was days of converting, cutting and pasting 450+ emoticons into the right locations in the Atrix font.
Hopefully some of you will find this useful. A couple shortcomings:
1. Some of the icons, namely ones with text or japanese characters did not have representations in Symbola, so for those I took .bmps and converted to vector and then integrated them into the font. The result is that while for the most part they look good, they may be less sharply defined than the tailor made glyphs.
2. It took me a long time to figure out what the icon for "109" meant. I've never been to Tokyo, so I had no idea that was a department store. Unicode doesn't implement this one, so the icon is a duplicate of the department store icon.
3. I didn't really implement the flag icons because they aren't integrated into the unicode standard, and I didn't have anything readily available. I experimented with converting flags I could find, but for the most part they came out terribly. The following flags are missing: Japan, US, France, Germany, Italy, UK, Spain, Russia, China, South Korea.
The flags are really the main shortcoming. If anyone has these flags in black and white (not grayscale, that doesn't come out well in fonts. Dithering to emulate shades is fine), or wants to make them, I'd be happy to integrate them. They'd be especially welcome if they had been made as vector format. For now though, I'm not likely to try again to make them myself. I finished this project weeks ago, and frankly I'm tired of it
This mod replaces DroidSansFallback.ttf so if your version is already customized, be aware that those customizations will be gone.
How to install:
1. On your phone, make sure USB Connection is set to "None".
2. On your phone, go to Settings > Applications > Development and make sure USB Debugging is on.
3. Plug your phone into your PC and let any drivers install if necessary.
4. Unzip the file I attached and run installemoji.bat.
I send Emoji from time to time but nobody ever sends it to me, haha. My iPhone friends get excited when they see it but do not know how to send it back.
Haha, I had to show my iPhone friends how to set it up!
Hi guys,
I installed the gingerbread keyboard running
the gb debloat.
I still have the green bounding arrows, is it
possible to get the 3 orange bounding arrows
like in the picture below?

That usually depends on your roms theme I think
Sent from my TBolt using my f**king thumbs...
Yep, part of the theme. If you open up a Tmo theme engine apk you'll notice "frameworks_res_text_select..." pngs which are the bounding arrows then there should be an xml indicating the highlight color.
If you just want to swap out the ones you currently have instead of applying a theme, they're located in /system/framework/framework-res.apk named "text_select_handle...". Find a theme with the color you want and swap away.

thanks for the info.
I'm currently running the basic GB debloat. I've looked in the
framework-res.apk but I didn't see the stock icons. So I then
looked in the htc.resources.apk and I found them:
- text_anchor_bar.png
- text_anchor_bar_top.png
So i used ninjamorph to replace those 2 pngs but it still shows
the stock icons :/
any idea where else those icons could be?
I just downloaded the GB debloat from here to check (i assume that's the one you're on).
As I mentioned, they're in /system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi and they're named "text_select_handle...".
Also, remember to reboot after changing to see the effects.

yup that is the one
Yes i did look I did find that folder earlier:
/system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi
the thing is it already has those orange icons in there below
however it still continues to show the top green/black ones.
ah, I get what you're saying now. Yea, sense uses those custom ones from htc.resources. I don't mess with sense roms any but I'm pretty sure replacing the green ones like you did with ninjamorph then finishing the project and rebooting should have worked.
You might also want to try deleting those files and see if it falls back to the ones in framework (not sure if that will work but easy to try). As I said, I don't mess with sense roms so I'm not completely sure. Maybe someone that themes sense roms can help you more.

cool thanks for confirming for me. obviously we were on the same
page lol because I just did both of the above before i read this
- deleting the stock green icons, ended up crashing the mail/msg apps.
I was unable to even open either of the 2.
- i then used ninjamorph to replace the stock green ones
in htc.resources. even resized them to match.
but they reverted back to the original ones after reboot lol.
thanks again for your help @absolute

Can you upload the framework-res from a GB ROM for us to look at the structure and contents?

I'm have nearly finished this new screenclock but as I'm not going to be using it I need to know if there will be enough people interested in using it.
As with most of my designs I there is a lot of moving and resizing of certain items so I can only test on a 800x480 unit. I there are people wanting it who have a 1024x600 then I really do need a RELIABLE tester or 2. Previous testers have been shall we say slow in sending feedback and screenshots (I can only make it work for 1024x600 by looking at screenshots and then making adjustments).
Anyway, I have added a poll so that I can get an idea what users will be wanting to use it if any.

it looke really good
I would like to be tester but can only put in the unit only 2 times a day
Well, I don't care for that clock at all, but I'd be happy to help you in the testing on a 1024x600.
One thing I would like (don't even know if it is possible) is a sweep second hand instead of one that moves every second.
Not sure if this is something that is even possible but I would love to see a heading function instead of speed (mph/kph). I've got a speedo in front of me that I ignore already and Ive always wanted a display that shows my heading (N, Nw, S, Se).
Liking that digital font. Good job.
If you don't mind me asking, how are you using a different font? Are you using individual image files for characters?
The reason being, I drive an E46 BMW, and I painstakingly re-drew the numbers used on the other displays in the car in .png format (in fact I went a stage further and did the whole alphabet) in the hope I could build my own Screenclock. which matches the rest of the dashboard displays. If you're using individual png's, would you mind sharing how you did it?

Believe me I tried every way I could think of including re-building the screenclock from scratch including a custom font but just could never seem to get it working.
In the end I cheated, I used a digital font and renamed it to Roboto-Itallic and copied it to the system/font folder. Obviously this will change anything in the firmware that uses that font but I have been using the digital font for a few weeks now and have only noticed a couple of things changed to the new digital font, overall it really doesn't make a huge impact.
