[Q] Can't unroot because I can't find stock I9100XXI4 kernel - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!!!
I'm trying to find the stock kernel for my phone so I can unroot, so far I've been unlucky as all the links I found are broken, and on sam firmware I'm unable to find my phone. It's a international unlocked I9100 - I9100XXI4 baseband. I'm attaching the current phone info in case it can help me locate a firmware.
Thanks a lot in advance!!

what country ? and what was the version of your original kernel, XXKI4 ?

Can't tell, the phone was given to me as it is now. I do know it's an international version. Is there any way I can find that info in the software or under the battery?

That thing is ancient. And you won't unroot by installing default kernel, the kernel doesn't hold anything about root.

You have internatiol version... PDA: I9100XXKI4
EDIT:Ups never mind... Didnt read fully 1st post.

[Q] Which insecure kernel to use for root

Hey guys,
I have a question about flashing an insecure kernel to root my phone. Its from Australia on virgin:
PDA: I9100XWKEB
Phone: I9100XXKE6
CSC: I9100XSAKE3
I want to keep my current rom to do a backup after rooting, so does it matter which insecure kernel I choose KE7, KE2 etc? As I cant see one which is XWKEB. I dont want to change to another firmware before rooting as I cant find my current one to download in case I have to return the phone under warranty.
Cheers
Which insecure kernel to use for root with S2 Root
I'm brand new to Android, so please be gentle (I am very experienced with jailbreaking IPhones, but that don't help here!). I've searched the forums but still have no clue as to the answer to this question.
Like the previous poster, I would also like to know which insecure kernel to use for my newly-purchased S2. My details are :
Baseband version : I9100TDUKF2
Kernel version :2.6.35.7-I9100TDUKF2
Build number : GINGERBREAD.DUKF2
Look forward to hearing from someone. And thanks in advance.

[Q] Galaxy S II Firmware Upgrade 2.3.4 Help!

I have been researching the net on this and the posts in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
I haven't been able to post in there as I am a new user, but if someone can help me with this, it would be great.
I'm trying to upgrade my firmware to XXKH3 - Android 2.3.4.
My current version is:
PDA: I91000XWKE7
PHONE: I9100XXKE4
CSC: I9100OPSKE4
My Galaxy S II is rooted and it's on the OPTUS network in Australia.
My question is, how should I go about it?
Do I download the XXKH3 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/C4DRUIJTLL and place that in PDA and PHONE in Odin?
And for CSC do I get this: Optus OPSKG1 CSC: http://www.multiupload.com/EPWZTIMS1F and place it in CSC?
I want to be able to use the OPTUS network on XXKH3, but without OPTUS bloatware. I'm just not sure which files to get so I can be with OPTUS on an Australian firmware if that makes any sense.
My last question is, would this then wipe my data? Or not?
I appreciate any help on this.

you are referring to the right thread. clear instructions are given on that thread.
choose the PDA option.
CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either.
You don't have to change the kernel or root or unroot to flash a new stock firmware.
You can then flash the kernel of your choice.
If you want the CF-root KH3 kernel. refer this thread
If you want to flash stock KH3 kernel you can also do that.
as far as operator bloatware is concerned search for operator specific bloatware removal scripts which can be executed using Gscript app . or a simpler option would be to freeze or uninstall the bloatware apps using Titanium back up Pro.
Thank you for the fast reply.
So pretty much all I need to do is put the XXKH3 Stock Kernel in the PDA option and that's it. So the OPTUS network will not be affected correct?
Then root it and I'm done?
Thanks again!

Excellent. Thanks.
I guess my last question is, by doing this, putting the XXKH3 in the PDA option, will this wipe my data?
Should I back up?

Alright will do. Thanks for all your help guys!
let me know how you get on,am severely tempted to flash new firmware just for a change!
Hm. I just put XXKH3 Stock Kernel in PDA and flashed it but my phone still says Android 2.3.3. I used the CF-root KH3 kernel as well to root it again.
What do I need to do to get it to Android 2.3.4? Do I have to place it in PHONE as well?
The ROM is 2.3.4, just about any ROM in original development is. What you are trying to flash is kernel. Best of luck.

Er, Kernel is kernel and firmware is firmware. Flashing the kernel won't update the firmware, just the kernel.
Alright I think I understand now.
Downloading the package, which should do it and I guess the stock kernel is used to root/rid yourself of the yellow triangle.

It went well, the phone is working great.
My data didn't get wiped.
Follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
Download the XXKH3 package.
I also used Titanium to backup my apps just in case and MyBackup Pro for contacts etc. but haven't needed to use it.
After you flash that (if you want to root the phone) go to this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 and get CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KH3-v4.1-CWM4.zip. Put that in PDA and flash it.
To get rid of the yellow triangle, follow this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14283369&postcount=2.
That's it. Thanks for all your help guys!
ok so lets say I chose new stock firmware to avoid the triangle, then later wanted to be official, could i plug my phone into kies and updatd to official 2.3.4 without problems?
i would like to try oranges firmware without rooting the device and voiding my warranty!

Look on www.sammobile.com/firmware for samsung firmware.Telia is not listed, also not on check fus. So i think you need this rom http://www.hotfile.com/dl/163050326/a3cfdf1/I9300XXBLFB_I9300NEEBLF1_NEE.zip.html for the Nordic countries. Install Triangle Away (here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114) first before flashing the rom with Odin to reset the flash counter. After you flashed the rom do a data/factory reset. Check first if the above rom i mentionedis the right one.
Was reading abit more (do not want to be stucked with a broken phone doing my vacation), found this is the I9300XXBLG6 the newest firmware and does it work for us on Telia in Denmark?

Better check on Telia`s website for the latest firmware. You might flash the rom in your post, however you may have to change the modem for better reception.

If i flash the new firmware again, do i need to root the phone again or does it "keep" the root i made earlier... Sorry for all the stupid questions i'm an old iphone fart. :silly:
I tried to search for a sammy wiki or something to become a little more clever about rooting, rom and firmware.
As i see it:
The firmware is kinda the phone bios, doesnt matter if you running a hacked version of the system or not.
The ROM is the "system" it might be stock or cyanogen etc.
You have to have a hacked firmware to be able root your phone.... Or am i totally wrong here?

If you buy Mobile Odin Pro and flash the firmware with that app you will keep root and you don`t loose no data. If you flash with Odin on your pc you will loose root and your user data will probably be deleted.
The firmware i just linked is it not possible to root using that and odin nonpro? Do i have to use an older firmware then?

Flash it with Odin and root with CF Root 6.4. You can flash that firmware although i wouldn`t do it, it is a British Telecom provider rom. I would flash the rom in the 2nd post (nordic countries) wich i recommended. For instructions see m signature.

i had been using a gingerbread middle east rom and i was not able to update via kies. i have no idea what are you talking about, i bought my phone from usa and it was on 2.3.3 and i updated it to 2.3.4 via kies in afghanistan. no matter where you are, you can always update via kies if you never update via odin.
Hmm. Maybe you try reinstall kies and try again.

Sure but WHY would you wanna go back to Gingerbread?! You can just root your phone and install CyanogenMod 7.1 or a similar 2.3.4 based ROM although I really can't understand why you'd wanna do that.

You may flash any country's stock ROM. It doesn't matter. However, make sure that the ROM isn't branded. That's all. To get the roms, go to www.sammobile.com, sign up for free, and enter your phone details. Choose any country, e.g. any European unbranded firmware.

Well, ICS is significantly better than GB. Google did an amazing job. Stock ICS looks gorgeous, is very responsive and more functional.
