Anyone's Camera messing up after 4.1 update? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Once I updated my TF201 to Jellybean, I noticed my Backfacing Camera will not function properly. It will flicker multiple colors and sometimes just show green. My front facing camera is working flawlessly. Anyone having the same problem? If not, then I know it isn't a software issue...

This is a hardware issue, just a coincidence you noticed it now. There is a thread here about the back green camera. I had to RMA mine to get it fixed. Nothing to do with JB, I think. Now, if only i could get mine updated. Initial update failed, and now it wont find it again
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA Premium HD app

Yea, as already stated it is hardware, I had the same freaking problem. Luckily the RMA only took 5 days though.

Happened to me the day I OTAed Jelly Bean, soit sure seems related. Any fixes posted other than RMA?

I got my prime second hand from the old lady and when I went to use the camera I got the same green camera photo
I find if I pinch the case by the camera I can get it to work. Now I'm debating on the RMA. Will they ship me a new one or a refurb? I'm quite happy with my Prime and I'd hate to get a lemon that everyone else is complaining about. Not too excited about loosing all my customization either.

Chances Of Getting A Propper Prime?

I'm hearing nothing but problems. I hear the majority of primes have some form of defect. It seems to me that ASUS screwed up pretty royally with there launch.
I'm in canada and i have a preorder on some small time website. Whats the story? is it only these first few that have defects?
I doubt i would be able to return it to my retailer so im really worried about getting a defected model.
Most things are some small issues so worst that happens is you keep it for a few weeks until stocks fill up and can exchange
My hunch is that the first batch of Primes were defective. ASUS halted the shipment to Canada and delayed the shipment to the US so they could examine existing Prime inventory and correct the wifi problem. They likely had to open each prime to fix it, which likely caused new problems which seen reported here like the Prime screens bleeding light, and looseness, and markings on the basel.
Hopefully those who are waiting in pre-order hell will be the lucky ones who will get the next new batch of Primes fresh off the conveyor belt with the wifi problem fixed.
That's my hunch.

screen bleeding, bad wifi, something else.. lol (not dead pixel, could care less)
plus a couple of peoples are just crapping out on them. those issues would bug the crap out of me.
and i couldn't return it to my provider, but could i return it to ASUS?
If your retailer had them in stock you could return it to them if not have to go through asus
As for issues don't worry many people have perfect tablets some just got unlucky Asus will sort it all out

tell you what. my prime is perfect. not a problem at all.
Mines not. My gamestop prime has horrid wifi screen bleeding and no gps... It actually just rebooted after freezing while viewing this very thread... I just want the tablet to work... I hope gamestop will exchange it with a version thatcomes in jan or feb... Im not even a room over and i am between -70 and -80 on wifi analyzer.... Awful.... But i am willing to wait if it means i can get working prime
kinda makes me glad I didn't get a prime now. after going 4 tfs I wondered if asus could do better with their second Gen tablet... doesn't seem like they've done much qc this go round either.
guess I'll be getting another Sammy when they get released.
I've been using mine all day long, haven't noticed any problems with mine, no screen bleed...wifi works good for my situation, only thing I can see wrong is it looks like I may have one dead pixel but it doesn't bother me enough..plus if it does bother me ill just wait a little but for fresher models

I'm actually glad I ordered my 64 GB now... once I accepted the fact that I wasn't going to get it before Christmas, I am glad and hopeful that some of these initial problems might be ironed out & better quality control put in place, in the next few weeks before I'm expected to receive mine; the rush to push the product out before the holidays being over now.

My Prime is working great. Everything works well including wi-fi and GPS.
No bleeding, battery is great and no lagginess whatsoever, no matter what I am doing.
I doubt "the majority" have problems. It's just that people are more likely to post their problems with their Primes (in the hopes to get them fixed) than others whose Primes are working well.
It's certainly not a clean launch by any means. But to say the majority of Primes are defective is a jumping to conclusions.
If your unit is defective, return it for a new one.
Just got to open mine today for Christmas, although it arrived from Newegg 2 days ago. I also got the docking station. Knock on wood, mine seem to be working just fine so far.
heh...mine was working flawlessly...that is until I charged it to 100% and powered it off. It now will not turn on so I guess I got a nice shiny cutting board for Christmas.

Not to make light of the situation, but it probably would make a good cutting board - did you see the video of that guy cutting apples on the screen? You would need to make sure the juices don't ruin the circuit board, though.

You mean there's no pin-hole to do a hard reset like you could do on a smartphone or PDA?

Yup, just there is but it did nothing when I pushed it. The only life in the unit is a green LED when the charger's plugged into the wall. It doesn't even show up on my PC when I plug it in. Good and truly dead it seems.
At least I got a couple of hours out of it before it died. Other than the whole catastrophic power failure thing it was a real pleasure to use...except maybe for the vibration...it also seemed a little busted.

Every new tablet had it's issue. Look at all the early threads for each tablet. Some people had issues, some people didn't. Your choice whether you want to venture down that road or wait. But what I have seen is that the later models, it has taken longer to get root because the development had the earlier models.

this thread isnt about whether or not tablets normally come out with issues, its about whether i should take a chance, its about if theres a chance of defects in the later models.

And I answered you: Your choice whether you want to venture down that road or wait. There may or may not be defects down the road, we're not there yet so no one knows that answer, only Asus, maybe.

[Q] New TF201 Stock

I am currently looking to buy a TPrime but obviously after reading all the issues I'm a little hesitant.
I have been reading through Gary Keys posts and wanted to know if anyone knew about any recent batches of TPrimes that have had the issues (wifi/BT/GPS/reboots) resolved.
I am in WA, Australia.
Should I be looking for a later batch model or should I just wait for the infinity? (I'm not too bothered about full HD screen though, I just want all the hardware working as it should...)
I have searched for this info but couldnt find an sufficient answer.
Thanks in advance.
Aside from maybe being more precisely assembled, nothing much has changed for quite some time with the TF201. Some are good, some are not. Sort of reminds me of Alpha Romeo cars. Great to look at and if you get a good one, its a keeper. I was lucky. I have a C1 that is a keeper. The latest firmware improved it. The GPS works. The Wi-fi is great. Minimal screen bleed. Stock browser infrequently crashes.

So you think I should be looking for a C1 model revision? Is there any indication of the model number on the box so I can check before I purchase?
Thanks for the advice mate!
There are C3s now in the market. There is a sticker in the box that says the serial number, just take a look at it
I picked a random one when i bought mine, C2 SN and it works perfectly, GPS is indeed a bit weaker than other devices but it works good.
All in all no issues and loving my device.
I just want now my .21 update!! (Not rolled out yet for Germany models )
Awesome
It would be great if Gary Key would throw some official thoughts on this. I PM'd him but I guess he must be busy at the moment...
So the later the C revision, the better...
Mixed results for me in the last couple days with C2s.
I got a C2 two nights ago that had a backlight problem at the lower left. It was unusually bright from the corner and diagonal up to the top center. That left side, probably 40% of the screen, was like that till I gave it to a coworker and the same area went dark. If I flexed it a little, it would flicker back and forth. Returned that one ASAP.
Drove 20 miles to the next nearest store with stock replacement. This second C2 is good from what I can see this evening.

Bougth one for my girlfriend week ago and in the serial number reads "C3". It came with ICS .15 firmware out of the box. Havent noticed any hardware flaws. After the latest update I uninstalled Flash, cleared all data from default Browser and installed flash back. I havent noticed any freezing since then when browsing internet.
Id say go ahead and get this awesome device.
Anymore thoughts on this?
Thanks guys
Like others have said, mine works as good as it will ever be, but not perfectly. I am now at terms with it haha.
If I had to do it again I would rebuy my prime. For me its just the OCD in me that wants EVERYTHING to work so GPS bothers me.
As far as screen bleed, I had a little and fixed it. Then it came back again, I probably opened my prime too many times hehe.

Has anyone else received one of the newer units?
I have read on amazon about a couple of people buying in the last 10 days and have no issues with wifi, gps or backlight.

I've got a c2 and everything seems to working beautifully granted i havent tried anything with gps as i never use it, it just eats battery as far as im concerned.
Just make sure you get one from a store with a good returns policy. I plan to buy another one, just to use till the Infinity comes out and then i'll return/sell it. I live in South Africa, so they're ridiculously overpriced here. Buying from the UK and could probably sell it for more here after using it a bit...
I'm in western Australia and there are a couple of stores that I should be able to return to. I just want to be as sure as I can about the later revisions being better than the earlier ones

Update from my previous post, my second C2 has no apparent flaws. I have yet to try BT with WiFi but that's not a priority for me. WiFi and GPS work fine. I have postponed updating to the latest firmware so I'll see if performance changes. Happy with this one
I agree with the suggestion to buy from a shop you can easily exchange or return it to if something is wrong. The only gotcha is actual stock. They're in short supply still. I had to drive out of my way about 50 miles round trip (understated in my previous post). The next one in stock was 180 mile round trip here in SoCal (to Victorville).

I've had mine for about 2 weeks and like you, I was hesitant because the junk you see posted on this forum but I'm glad I went ahead with it. I love my tfp! No problems with it so far. wifi works great, GPS worked well too when i tried it, but I doubt I'll use that much really.

Got one from Amazon last Friday and it was a C2 serial, I had hoped it would be C3!! Slight light bleed, GPS non existent and WiFi range not great at all. Never tested the BT and WiFi together but decided to return it today. I may go into PC World and buy one of them if they have a good returns policy when I get my refund from Amazon. The ones in my local PS World have a C3 serial number, at least the display model. Checked the GPS on it as well and did not work :-(
Cheers,
M
Really?
Well that scuppers the idea about c2/3 models then....

[Q] Things to inspect with a newly purchased Prime.

Hey everyone,
I've been wanting a Prime ever since I heard about it last December, and I've decided to purchase it within the upcoming weeks. However, while reading around about all the problems I am now a bit hesitant -- I don't want to be stuck with a defective Prime after the return period is up.
So I was wondering what I should be looking as far as problems with my Prime goes?
A list of problems would be appreciated.

Take a very close look at screen. Lightbleed around the edge, dead pixels and LCD mura which are bright spots, check for this on a white background. Other than that check WiFi is OK for u and all adaptors, SD USB etc all work OK.
Hope this helps...

Thanks guys, but I've been thinking about it too much and now I'm considering waiting off til Juneish to get the TF700 instead. This way I wouldn't have to worry about many of the problems that come along with the Prime.
Any thoughts on this? I really want the Prime, but the potential for problems makes me look to its successor.

green/flickering camera problems - possible temp fix..

Okay so i was just reading the thread and got me wondering, if it was a loose connection on the camera , so i squeezed the screen with both finger and thump either side of the camera and low and behold it is working again.. give it a try could be down to more shoddy asus craftsmanship. give it a go be interested to see the findings, planning on a massive asus shout via trading standards on Monday for a full refund..

Same happened to my tp and I thought it was a bad flash or something until last night I decided to squeeze the camera and it work, only for a few seconds before I had to do it again... Im really not surprise by the craftmanship since they sold us a device with poor wifi and GPS to begin with!
Son of a beach.. WOW - you guys are right. My Camera has been out for months. happened to read this and tried it. Boom - camera works.
I used to really like this Prime - I was such an advocate.. but now my hinge on the keyboard is so loose, GPS sucks, Wifi issue, camera green - well up till now... This thing is actually a great feature set in a pile of junk!
Thanks Guys for the tip.
I just encountered this problem today.... 2 weeks after my warranty has expired. Anyway I squeezed the camera area and it appears to have fixed itself. I have never dropped this tablet and treat it with kid gloves so not sure how the connectors could have come loose. Hope the fix holds.
I really wish Asus would have recalled this tablet. As much as i hate apple products you could be sure they would have recalled it if they had this many issues.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda app-developers app
This sounds a lot like the squeeze fix for bad wifi signal that was discussed a long time ago. I wounder if they used the same type of connector for the camera and the wifi antennas.
Well that fix didn't last long. Camera is now doing the green thing again and this time I can't get it to go back to normal. Piece of crap! This is honestly the first time I have every had a piece of electronics fail on me. I am tired of paying top dollar for cheap crap.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda app-developers app
I also have the same problem. Camera broke weeks after I had owned it for a year. In the UK we were all offered our money back or an extension of the warranty to 18 months. I thought I had the 18 month warranty. Asus are telling me they have no record of it and are currently refusing to fix this obvious manufacturing defect. I am the original owner of the tablet and registered it in their VIP website when I got it.
For some inexplicable reason I still like my tablet though. I just don't like Asus, in particular their (lack of) customer support. I think they should be a little kinder to their beta testers. i.e. anyone that bought a Prime from new.
Oh... and the temp fix doesn't work for long.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk HD
same thing, green completely garbled screen, pushed on either side of the camera and it fixed itself... won't stay though
This is interesting. I just logged onto the asus site to check my registered products and my prime is not listed either. The only item listed is my Asus motherboard. I know 100% that I registered the tablet.... in fact you had to in order to receive the GPS Dongle. Looks like Asus really wants to forget the prime even existed by blowing away all the records.

Ladies and gentlemen,
I believe I have a fix for green screen camera. After trying many, many things, including flashing rom, I cleared cache and data for gallery app and voilĂ  - camera is working like new. Give it a go.
I just tried clearing the data and cache for the gallery app but it did not fix my problem.

Mine wasn't. The pressure method didn't work but clearing the gallery cache and data did. The TF camera must have multiple issues....
OK, so the camera issue had returned today. I tried what worked before (clearing gallery cache and data) with no success. Then I booted into recovery and ran "Fix Permissions". When my Prime booted up camera was working again. I'm thinking that in my case it may not be a hardware issue but a software one. I just wish I'd know exactly what causes it.
touching the connections on the camera PCB fixes mine, but it's rather impractical to crack open the prime every time I want to take a photo... Either an instability (oscillation), dry joint or broken connection of the flex-pcb is my guess.
Omg. So glad I found this post. I tried it and lo and behold it worked. Thank you for taking the time to post the solution.

[Q] Has anyone sucessufully opened and replaced the rear camera on tf201?

I've been reading a lot of posts here and other places about the green and pink screen when you open the camera. I just opened mine and got the camera to work for a few minutes but detatching it and moving it around. But now it's back to being green screen. I'm wondering if it's the camera, motherboard, or firmware that's the problem. Has anyone replaced the camera and still have this problem? Please let me know.
I've had to send mine in for repair 3 times now. Twice in warranty, once out. Problem comes back about every 6 months or so. Not sure what they do to fix it, but I think they replace it.
I've thought about opening it up and playing with it, but I don't feel comfortable with that.

I opened it and found out the problem is actually the camera itself. I ordered another camera but I don't know how long that one will last. I made a little video demonstrating the problem on youtube.
