[Q] Does it looks like Water Damage to you - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This phone never went in water or even close to water but Bell refused to honour the warranty saying humidity wen't in the micro-usb connector...
Maybe it's me who don't understand how water detector works but in my mind, the water detector are all good and would be turned red if there was any water on it???

don't know what to say, the connectors may have corrosion on them due to high humidity or something else, it doesn't mean that your phone had to be submerged in water. the good news is that it's relatively easy to change that part yourself i have done it. look on youtube for some tutorials to be sure and you can go ahead and do it

seems that there are traces of water damage.
Lift all the connectors, including the black dissipators.
Take an old toothbrush and some gasoline/petrol.
brush the contacts.
Let dry (no hurry..)
cross fingers and start the phone.

Thanks for your comments guys. I've already changed the bottom part (sub-mainboard with the usb connector) as the samsung repair tought that it was the problem but it didn't fix the problem. I'm 100% sure the mainboard just fried. This phone never went to water so it's certainly not water damage and it stopped working while sitting on a couch downloading a torrent on it... So my first guess is that it overheated...
I Just can't figure why they refused to repair it under the assumption it was related to humidity on the usb connector as it never had any... really...
I mean, the water-detector is right under the usb port and isn't red so no water went there....
P.S. on the picture it's not corrosion but dust... I've posted it to make sure I correctly understant how the water-detector works... White with purple x is good.... red isn't... if I'm not mistaking....

Putting phone back together, Metal Clips on top?

So I broke the glass on my HTC Rezound, I just finished replaceing the glass, and Im putting it all together again, but I found these two metal clips that i didnt notice when I was taking it apart. They are preventing me from putting the back back on the phone.
Here are pictures. (replace xxxx with you know what.)
i282.photobucketxxxx/albums/kk264/thchamp3/2012-06-09_17-10-41_961.jpg
This is the underside of the motherboard directly under were they are.
i282.photobucketxxxx/albums/kk264/thchamp3/2012-06-09_17-13-13_964.jpg
It would seem like they are supposed to be bent down so they go under the motherboard and make contact with those two metal pad things, but I know metal breaks easily when bent and I want to make sure first.
Thanks.
Bump, Please help. I'm sitting her with a half assymballed phone.
you're bumping a thread after 18 minutes?
patience is a virtue my friend.
before attempting something like this I would of gotten as much info as possible.
plus when taking something apart take as many pictures as possible so you know how to put it back together.
all i can do is offer what ive found

Sorry, I was just trying to get my phone back together.
I should have taken pictures of it before I took it apart. I think I got everything working at this point though.
I just bend them down enough to put the cover back on, I figured that if they were for the lights on the top i could test and see if those were working later, and wouldnt have to risk breaking them by bending them. As of now my phone is working fine I havent tested all the lights yet.

I think those are for the speaker for the ear. I could be wrong. I am pretty sure the few times I have taken my phone apart though they are supposed to be that way. Bent down that is.
EDIT: Decided to find the thread for you, that someone posted of internal pictures of the Rezound. He has this shot, which shows them bent down.

Green fuzz, like analog TV, no picture but still works.

Bought a RAZR off craigslist today for repair. Its really weird. Its like TV fuzz on the display, but its green specs with blue and red in it too. Still pets on just fine, and everything works behind the scenes, just no picture. It also gets brighter like its warming up our something.
Any suggestions?
I already opened it and cleaned the terminals with alcohol, then re-seated the terminals, no difference. Also, no signs of water damage. The internal stickers were not activated, and no rust anywhere, not even in the USB port.
Buying a new screen to see if its the problem. Still up for suggestions though...

I have no idea but mine is similar to this when say a game is loading and the backlight is dark green but I see black splotches in it and I don't know why?
i have little to base this on, but just guessing: my guess is that it is the video "card" (chip) hardware, and that the display itself is fine, requiring a new "motherboard" or whatever it is called inside the RAZR.

[Q] Does galaxy s2 like beer?

Hi, a friend dropped a glass of beer on his galaxy i9100. Phone looks dead but when he give it to me i've tried another battery and the phone turns on with apparently no problem. So he bought another new original battery, put on and charge the phone. But, temperatures reach critical level and the phone stopped the charge. The temperature raise even without charge with battery in and phone on. So i disassembled and scan for damaged components or some trace of "beer" but the phone looks clear. I then sprayed with a product similar to wd40 (we call it crc in Italy, removes dirt and clear electric contacts) and wait for dry. But same problem. I turned on the phone partially disassembled and the heat is concentrated in the flex hook of the frontal buttons but probably the heat comes from the chip near that.
unfortunately there is no code on that chip so i hope you can understand wich i'm talking about. The only thing is that i don't really know if the heat is from that chip or the flex hook, i don't know how to test it. Looking at it there is no sign of damage. Any advice?
Hope you can understand the problem and apogologize for bad english
ps: with the crc the temperature focused on that chip, before that all the charging flex was over heating
Just post a picture.
Are you talking about the usb/mic board.

this is the place where heat reach is max
no ideas? i cleaned the phone completely and nothing changed
All I can say is you look through previous posts about motherboards and see if anyone has an old board you could get.
I dont know how easy it would be to change that component your after.
I dunno about beer but mine (GT-I9100P) had a couple of vodka baths and it still works impeccably. (and when I say baths, I say full glass spilled on it)

[Q] How to fix/replace a rubber gasket for the microUSB port (picture included)

Unexpected update! Someone was looking over my shoulder at school, whipped out his Z Ultra, and showed me his flap. The gasket is attached to the flap, not the inside. It needs to be glued or replaced.
This is a C6806 model. Behind the microUSB port, there used to be this little rubber gasket. From what I can tell, it should be on the inside. It appears that there's a slight tear partly though the thinnest part of the rubber, though it doesn't go all of the way through. It's about the size of a dental spacer elastic, if you're familiar with them. When I try to jam the part back inside, it bunches up. Without this rubber gasket, the port flap stays open and the phone is no longer sealed from water entry.
I contacted Sony about it (first time speaking with them). They said that I could send it off for warranty repair, but if they determine by their own set of standards that it was normal wear and tear, then I get charged a minimum of $25 (either if I opt for them not to repair it and send it back, or more than that for labour and parts). Since I'm not too pleased with that, I'm wondering if anyone knows what this part name/number is so that I can acquire it and try replacing it myself. Any suggestions on how to get it back in without bunching up? If nothing else, can someone with an Xperia Z Ultra post a photo of the same angle so I can see how/where the gasket should be sitting in there?
Thanks!
P.S.: Sorry about the dusty photo. I let it sit around while I was trying to decide what to do about it. I was told that instead of doing the repair, if I brought it into a Sony store, they'd be able to swap it out for something like $8, but there are no longer any Sony Stores in Canada. I'm going to Honolulu for a conference in a week, but Sony's website doesn't seem to have a service centre locator for the USA, so I couldn't see if they had a store there.
The following photo indicates where I think it is supposed to go, though it could be that it was actually affixed to the flap and simply became detached.

Wifi antenna

Hey guys, long time reader, first time poster here (and it's a long one too).
My OnePlus X is my daily driver and I was planning on using it for some more years if this is fixable
Recently the USB port started to fail, so I decided to replace the part. A little setback was that i also had to replace the GSM antenna cable, which I had damaged during disassembly. So far so good, the phone is now charging again and reception and mobile data are working fine.
However, ever since the repair my Wifi reception has gone to ****, it is now so bad that it's pretty much unusable even when right next to the router. I've come to the conclusion that this is not a problem with the antenna cable replacement, as removing this cable only kills cell reception, wifi is unchanged. You can see the cable i'm talking about running into the long side of the frame in the bottom of this

, with the golden connector on the lower edge of the motherboard (the other side connects to the USB flex cable, under the metal housing on the right). I believe the Wifi chipset itself is contained within the small housing in the upper middle of the board, with the + sign.
So now on to my question:
Does anyone know where exactly the wifi antenna on this phone is located? I'm assuming that it is being routed into the plastic/metal housing cover that's over the mainboard. I've made sure that none of the pins on the motherboard that connect to the housing cover are missing/bent or corroded. I've angled them up a little bit and cleaned them with alcohol to ensure a good contact.
But still, no wifi. Is it possible that the wifi chip itself got damaged in the repair and is there any way to find out?
Hopefully someone here knows something useful, I would be eternally grateful
Did you ever find a fix? I am having similar problems for one plus 3t
No, zero news on that front. I did some superficial research but was unable to pin-point the fault. I had to replace the phone, sadly.
