[Q] S3 stuck in recovery - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently purchased a used S3 and wanted to clear previous owners data so I performed a factory reset, unfortunately the phone never came back on even after removing the battery. When I press power home and volume down phone goes to recovery but it is in chinese, I can see restore from SD card but when I do it it says cant mount from SD card, have I toasted the phone or is there a way to recover, I am a complete NOOB so if you can help please keep it simple.PS I called Samsung serviceand they said I would have to send the phone to Hong Kong as they would not service it here in the USA

download a ROM from the forum and try flashing via ADB in your computer.

Sometimes it happens that even after pressing that combination of buttons one will still enter in a RECOVERY mode not download mode. so TO THE OP: Please confirm that are you entering in download mode or recovery mode?...

the phone goes into recovery mode.

Can you not go into download mode?
If so just get the latest Firmware ( only the latest available on Kies ) from Sammobile and flash it with Odin, then go in recovery and do factory reset and clear cache and reboot, see how that goes!
change your CSC to match the ROM so you can use Kies latter on (ex: BTU with BTU)
On you call pad *#272*you IME here# then chose to match your Firmware.
I hope this helps

And as well, flash a ROM via adb?! Dafuq!?

[Q]My galaxy s2 doesn't boot and I can't get into recovery mode

Hi everyone.
That's my problem.
Last month I bought on the net a used Galaxy s2.
It arrived with this configuration
android version 2.3.7
number build MIUI 1.12.02
Kernel 2.6.35.14-Siyah v.2.1.1
modem XXKI4.
I decided to restore factory settings but after that the phone doesn't boot and I can't get into recovery mode (but I have no problem with download mode).
I thought maybe I do something wrong to get into recovery mode but I press simultaneuosly vol up+home+power for more than 30 sec without results.
I tried to flash the same kernel with odin but nothing to do.
Any idea?
Thanks for your help.
Try re-flash a root kernel with Odin such as Chainfire's CF-root.
It will re-install the custom CWM Recovery, then you can re-flash the ROM.zip with CWM Recovery directly from the sdcard.
Just read the instructions and FAQ on each thread exactly. If your not sure which CF-root kernel, just try.
Else, you can return to stock by flashing a ROM from Intratech's thread with Odin.
You will then have to re-root (if that's what you want).
Why cf-root? Hes on miui, he should flash another version of siyah/fluxi/xcell69 kernel with pc odin to make it work. Download mode - odin 1.85 - PDA = kernel - flash.
Btw if he did factory reset on recovery mode, its not a big problem, but if he did via in phone menu under 'about phone', i dont think my method above will work. That factory reset wiped everything and he should flash back to stock with odin.
Rom : Official MIUI 2.1.6
Kernel : Xcell-69X
Modem : XXKP8

I said "such as...."
Other than that, your just repeating repeating what I already said. Cheers

Firstable I thank you for your answers.
I solved my problem flashing a more recent Siyah Kernel.
After that the phone boots and now I can get into recovery mode, too.
No worries.

Turn off the device, remove the battery, wait about 90 seconds an insert a jig (if you have it). If you don`t have a jig do the above, insert the battery and go in download mode (volume down + power button + menu button) and flash a stock rom with Odin 1.85. Roms`s can be found on sammobile.com or in Intratech`s thread (original development).
Good luck

Stuck Galaxy S2
Hi,
I'm desperate about my Galaxy S2. Can't start or reach CWM menu after a failed firmware upgrade.
Tried ClockworkMod-Recovery_4.0.1.4 and CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5. Odin did its job successfully but I can't get CWM (Vol.up + Home + Power)
Only the boot up image. I can go to download mode only with a jig that doesn't reset counter.
A few days ago I got access to the CWM menu.
What am I doing wrong?
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you

Root stopped workign

Hi all,
I just got my i9300 two days ago and LOVE it! Yesterday i rooted via OLIN successfully and restored my apps from my old Evo using Titanium. Today I was prompted for an OTA update and didn't think anything of it so I let it update. Now, it seems, I can't run root aps like Titanium. I downloaded Root Checker and it shows no root access. I rebooted into recovery and I do get the recovery menu (clockwork???) menu on the phone.
What should I do?
thanks!

Wiped Cache and wiped data but when when I connect phone to computer with phone in recovery mode it does not update / re-run the CF-Root program via Olin.
Do I need to copy the CF-Root to the SD card and run directly through the phone? Do I need to pick a particular choice from the phone's recovery menu? Since the phone was rooted when I reboot into recovery it does not go into "download" mode like it did pre root.
Thanks for any help! I see lots of people have read this thread so I'm thinking there are either lots of others that have either had this happened or are looking towards the future so to fix or prevent w/ their OTA update.
Thanks!

You should press Vol+ + Home + Power.
Try flashing the kernel(.tar) with odin you used in C7 and see if that lets you into recovery or boots up.
Or you may have to get a stock rom for your model/region etc off sammobile and flash with odin.
That rom manager once gave me 4 hours work on my x10i.....

Hi' you really shouldn't worry and try to avoid flashing stock rom. you flashed GB rom over ICS rom and the problem is your data is full of stuff that's preventing you from booting the rom. You're tryong to go into recovery the wrong way. Hold together voulme up (NOT down) + home + power and it should boot your recovery just fine. Then just wipe data. the rom should boot if it was installed. If not download another rom and flash it through recovery.
Cheers
