Class 10 transferring files at >1mb/s?? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My new Samsung 32gb class 10 MicroSD just got here today. I copied my files from my ol' 8gb that came with my Evo4g (Supersonic) to my computer, and now I'm transferring those files to my card through USB mode on my phone. The problem is that it's writing at 900 KB/s - 1MB/s and my plan was to put roughly 25GB of music on this card.
I bought the card through Amazon (not from one of their stores, but directly from Amazon). I tested the card twice with SDTools and get 8.8-ishMB/s write and 17-ishMB/s read average. This is what I expect from a class 10. Why am I getting such slow speeds?

I'm not sure how to read the card info. Some of it doesn't really look right like "00000" for the name of the card, etc, but I've never used the app before so it's hard for me to say.
I'm going to try putting it in the included adapter and transfering stuff while it's hooked directly to my computer and see if that makes a difference. I guess my phone could be the bottleneck, but my class 2 8gb used to write at 2MB/s just fine - so I don't really have high hopes for the test.
Any help would be appreciated, quick replies would be VERY appreciated. I'm gonna try the above test now, and I'll be checking this thread for the next couple hours.
Thanks in advance.
Extra info - I'm rooted running JMZs unofficial CM9 so I'm on ICS
Update: I plugged it in through a USB card reader and about two minutes later it came up with a "You must format this card before you use it" warning (I already formatted it to FAT32 with 64mb). I clicked "format" and it came up with the windows format screen saying it didn't know the size of the card, and wouldn't let me choose FAT32 as an option, only FAT.
I'm going to guess this means I've got a fake card...?
Update 2: I tried to use HtestW2 but for it to test the 29GB it would take over 8 hours at 1MB/s... I'm not sure if I even want to go through that...

I just bought a 64gb class 10 from amazon hope its good I should get it tomorrow and I'll see and report how it does

Well I've tried the few workarounds I've found online (A lot of people seem to have the problem, but not as severe as me, and no one knows how to fix it?) but now my transfer speeds are going even slower... I just don't understand.
I guess it may be a problem with CM9? I'm now trying to find a non-CM based ROM that's still being developed to put on my Evo... If anyone has any good suggestions I'm open to them. I'm trying out AOKP build 33 now as that's the latest GOO has (minus Milestone 6 which as far as I'm aware isn't actually made for my phone?)
EDIT: On AOKPb33 and I get a whole 1.5MB/s now! woot... I've got a class two card?! Ugh...
UPDATE: interesting discovery - If I go into recovery mode and enable USB MS I get speeds around 5MB/s

I finally got the darn card to work on the phone. I had to reformat as fat32 using a different software on PC and made sure the partition was set as primary and not as logic. Haven't really tested but will soon.

I replaced the Samsung with a Sandisk class 10 32GB and it's still running at the same speeds (if not a little slower)...
I'm not too sure what to do. I've tried a LOT, but the only small boost in speed comes from mounting to USB through recovery mode which gives me 2-8MB/s depending on how my phone feels like performing it seems...

Mine was just writing between 5mb and 11mb/s then stopped transferring for a couple minutes then restarted now im getting 600-999kb/s Did my card just fail ?

Well, I installed 3gigs of apps. Need some insight.

So i got my 16gigger in the mail. Popped it in... and "ADB install -s *.apk" through a .bat. so it installed ~600 things (took forever).
Sense crashes like every minute... I can get it to run after WAITING for ever.
I'm slowly uninstalling things I don't want. I did this a first time and same thing. I RUU'd after and cleared SD...
Second time same thing. I'm writing this thread for ideas on finding the culprit. LP+ runs smooth, but after the system is OOM,
it pretty much panics and shuts down the launcher. I even have the keep in memory on in LP+.
Shutting down the launcher causes the phone to precache again and gotta wait. I thought
the stock Task Manager was doing something for the OutOfMemory, so I froze that ***** haha... Didn't do squat but FC when
I click it lol. Still get the crappyness. Don't flame about having 1000000 apps or w/e it may be. We are here to get this resolved...
Because it should work fine. Been thinkin of running a logcat and maybe find something too lazy tho.
I'm also pretttty sure that the stock kernel is messing things up;
*Class 10 card (legit on USB adapter tests, and EVO 4G on custom rom/kernel).
*Benches on 3D ~5-10MB/s, it should ALWAYS sustain at LEAST 10MB/s.
*Will not write at 10/MBs (Phone USB to PC)
If the card is laggin the phone will lag due to the apps. I tried the dual mount apps like we
used to have to use on CM7 due to kernel issue. Still slow. Also tweaked the ATU size on SD...
So... Here are the things that I will try and give feedback. Then you guys can give ideas.
*Gonna run a logcat.
*Perhaps use an ext partition (not what i did i know) but really? Necessary?
*I would like to change the OOM settings like zeppelinrox's script does (need S-OFF for it though)XDA Thread Link. It's called V6 Supercharger.. If anyone knows how we could alter this PLEASE help.
I think your problem IS too much crap. Not flaming you but did you really need 3 gigs of apps? Ruu and try to install everything 1 by 1.

No.... Its not internal... On remove SD it works fine... No need to reset.
Not an optoin. This phone has no reason to do that. This should be a bug to HTC.

Oh when you unmount your sdcard your phone is pretty much snappy again but when it's mounted its lagging?!?!
I want to troll this thread so bad...
...but I also would like some answers. If the phone is fine when the SDcard isn't mounted, wtf?
Now, if you didn't format to ext2 what format is it? FAT32? Could the file allocation table be screwing things up? On FAT partitions you don't have to worry about just the file size but also the size of the allocation of each file. Every file, regardless of how big the data itself is, have a minimum size for the allocation. If you have a bazillion tiny files you will lose a ton of space to the allocation table...is Android trying to come to terms with this?
Only thing I can think of...

How would you go about formatting to ext2 or ext3 for apps2sd? I've only known to do it in recovery through root.

Why not give ext* a shot? I'd be curious...
i would be curious to see how many apps you can install on there PROPERLY as well, keyword: PROPERLY
ruu and do them all again one by one, PROPERLY from the phone, not ADB straight to the SD card.

card reader?
I may be wrong but my understanding is that even though the apps are on SD, there is a portion that runs on the internal memory (dalvik). With 3Gigs of programs, maybe the OS is spending alot of time continually trying to allocate space thus causing problems?

Went to Target to get my GS2, ended up getting a used one. Kinda pissed.

Its not a huge deal but I got this Galaxy S2 from Target on a 2 year upgrade and these pics came on the phone.
This was used, the EXIF data was form Oct. 6, 2011, over a month ago
This phone didnt come with a 8GB Sim card, which it should. He took the card and returned the phone. Im mad because I paid for a new phone and ended getting some used phone with scratches on the bottom microphone area.
I plugged my phone in and noticed he left this photo on my phone:

Why are they selling used/refurbs and claiming theyre new? Scumbags dude...AT&T wont give me an new one, I have to go through Target again. I dont want another used phone that I dont know about...is there any way to check if its been used again?
Open up the box and check it out? 8gb microsd cards aren't included either. As far as I know, the only things in the box are the phone itself, battery, USB cable, wall plug, and the usual pamphlets/manuals.
Was there plastic on the front and back, and why do you think the gs2 comes with an 8gb card?
Does the pic have a GPS stamp? Go to the guy's house. LOL!
8gig card? It comes with memory built it.

no sd card included. But the pics are definitely optional lol
AT&T will tell you to take it back to Target. I would have brought it back immediately. Take it back and tell them you want a new one. They aren't supposed to be selling returned phones in the first place.

While you're at the store, have them power it up. Then go to settings/about phone. Scroll to bottom and check "uptime". It should say 0. Also, a fresh out of the box SGS2 should load the set up wizard when powered on.

Uptime is just time since last boot, any phone that was off will say basically 0 if you get there fast enough. Had this phone over a month:
If you factory reset the phone in settings you will get the wizard on next boot, but internal SD is not wiped.
Check the vinyl on the screen warning about texting and driving, it should have little to no bubbling, but its near impossible to put back on like that.

Lol sorry guys. I put my old Inspire SD card in the galaxy and forgot it didn't come with its own, so my fault on that one. However the phone came with perfect wrapping and the "don't text and drive" sticker as well as the sticker on the battery cover. It also booted up asking me to sign in my Google account as if the phone was from the factory but that guys face was still loaded onto my phone. The phone was returned and obviously re packaged.
Anyway I got a new phone and its fine

Took out NFC credit card. Tapped. Worked.
Went to another local store. Tried phone. Nothing. Tried credit card. Worked.

it gives a secure element error if secure element is bad, had the same issue with one gas station but it worked just fine at McD's
So you're saying that only the prepaid card isn't working?
Reset it like ten flashes ago.
Never had it tell me i had a problem.
Always flashed a ROM, loaded up wallet, and it asks me to enter a new pin every time i did a flash.
Entered same pin and it loaded up fine
It saves my credit cards every time.

Well it seems to be working if your added credit card is going thru. Maybe try clearing cache and data then adding prepaid card again? Uninstall update and download universal wallet app maybe?
Mine doesn't want to work at certain stores, but it comes on at least. The transaction won't go thru is the only issue I have.

some terminals are connected and working but not properly set up. I went to one gas station everyday for about a week to try to figure out why the terminal wouldn't recognize the phone. The clerk felt bad and put in a service ticket, technician came and told the clerk it needed to be reset and reconfigured. Works fine now, although I found it a bit strange because I know I saw at least one paypass card charged that week
I got an email stating that my Google Prepaid card is set to expire next month. I haven't been able to use my gw. I tried at our local Rite Aid with no success. But who knows if the cashier knew what he was doing.
Maybe I did, maybe I didn't....
Its credit and some systems require the cashier select credit prior to the customer swiping or this case passing the nfc across the reader

S4 SIM Card Not Found

I recently got a brand new S4, but it turns out it has SIM card issues. The phone does not detect the SIM card. The SIM card works just fine in other phones.
I tried bringing it back to Verizon to be replaced, but the screen has a tiny tiny crack in it, and they claim it's no longer covered under the warranty. The SIM card problems and the crack are not related.
After trying every solution I could, I ordered a new SIM card reader for my S4. I took out the old one, put in the new one... And I have the same issues. I even replaced it again with ANOTHER new SIM card reader, and have had no progress.
The problem is not the SIM card, or the SIM card reader... So I'm not sure what else I can do to fix this. Any suggestions?

You can downgrade to NC5 and see if that fixes it, then you will know if it's a hardware or software problem.

Went down to NC5, still have the problem.
I guess there's nothing else to do but try to have it repaired?
Sometimes it finds the SIM card for a few minutes, then says its removed.
It also occurred to me that the MicroSD card slot works fine, even though the MicroSD and SIMcard reader are connected.
Do I need a new motherboard? I've tried replacing the SIMcard reader twice now.
Also, now that I'm using NC5 can I attempt to install some custom ROMs?

It is probably the motherboard. I have a friend at work that has an S4 and his was doing the same thing. He ended up just getting an S5. I cant remember how much a new motherboard was but he did not want to go through all the hassle. Yes, on NC5 you can flash some custom ROM's. They have to be Touchwiz based though as you cant flash different kernels so pure AOSP is not an option. Just make sure to read the thread of the ROM you want to flash and make sure it is Safestrap and NC5 compatible and be sure to follow the directions exactly and you will be fine.

Media Scanning/server possible FIX, Stupid problems FIX

No. 1 - This WILL start a war, not because I want one, but because 90% of sheeple don't believe my 15+ phones of proven testing.
No. 2 - I am trying to HELP SOLVE your problem, so arguing about not doing this and still having drain is your fault. I am not saying this is your problem to a 'T'' but more than likely is.
No. 3 - I am not responsible for your Nexus 6P (or other phones) becoming a tomato from you doing something wrong. This is very simple and I have NEVER had a problem, but what you do to your phone is your responsibility, I did not hold you against your will through the bits of the internet.
Little backstory...I AM the Tech Guru for my family, and we have a large one that surrounds us within an hour, so we have a lot of get togethers.
Most of my family who has gotten to know me in the past 7 years has understood that iPhones are not welcome and usually end up switching to Android just because if they need help I usually have the answer. Anything from Windows to the wiring in peoples cars, I have worked on. Computers are a big thing with my family and their friends and I just want to share something I have noticed over the years that basically happens 100% of the time with their Phones.
People on XDA will think I am a little overzealous when it comes to flashing my phone. But when I do, I back up only the bare essentials, mainly pictures in my case to a PC. I then make sure my PC is ready for a clean download and run ccleaner and trim the computer (I run SSD's) and download my rom and gapps of choice. I use Pure Nexus and Dirty Unicorns mainly with a strong learn towards PN.
I then transfer the two zips to a FRESHLY formatted USB drive (I use a 8GB Silicon Power USB 3.0, they have their own format utility and a lifetime warranty so format away!) and OTG cable (I use the Ravpower cable Benson Approved). I then boot into TWRP's Latest recovery which is 3.0.1-0 at the time of this writing and do the following. in pressing sequence.
Wipe - Format Data - yes blue check - back - advanced wipe - Check Dalvik/system/Data/internal/Cache - swipe to wipe - home
*Sometimes I will resize and repair system, data, and cache just for giggles, then rewipe everything for extra added measure*
My device is fully wiped, everything's gone and ready to flash. I then connect my 8gb Flash drive to the OTG cable then into the nexus and hit my rom zip to flash and flash it, then my gapps zip I want and flash it. then I hit home, reboot, and POWER OFF. I always give the phone a good 2-3 minutes to cool down from flashing and just give the phone a break. And yes, I flash my rom and gapps seperately, I do not add zips. I find it fun to flash so why not take extra steps!
This is the SAME way I flash phones on the following phone, ahem...Nexus 6P, two Nexus 6, four (yes four) Lg G3 Verizon, Moto G, two Nexus 7 2012, Galaxy S3, Tmobile S6 Edge, two Droid Trubo's, two Moto X Pure's, Droid Razr maxx HD ...you get the point, more than 15 actually... and if you think I am bluffing I will try to take a picture if I can get everyone to boot into twrp and lay them in a row. We're an android fri
One thing I have noticed after flashing allll of these phones is the ONLY time anyones has a battery drain issue is when the phone has not been completely wiped OR, and yes I said OR...they are using a Micro SD card from another phone. I'm not saying I haven't seen them. My girlfriends G3 was working great with her SD card UNTIL she decided that she didnt want to have about 200 pictures on there anymore. She didnt reboot her phone for about 2 days and then she bring it up to me saying her phone died quickly that day, I asked her what has she done recently that she never does, new appssss....different charggeeerrrsss...you know anything. she thought for a second ( I flash her phone so I know she didn't flash anything wrong), she then tells me she deleted some pictures and a few videos the other day, I then asked her if she deleted them from the SD or internal, and she said SD. I was like cool, turned off her phone, removed her SD, threw it into my PC, copied her files over, opened up SD Formatter, formatted her card, then slapped it back into her phone and connected her phone to the pc and copied the pictures she wanted back, which was like a WHOPPING 6. no joke, shes very low maintenance it's the best.
But ever since then no media scanning/server/ whatever you want to call it since.
Call me crazy, but I am very observant.
So you probably didn't read all this, I didn't expect you too, I made it long and annoying because this problem has drawn out over the years for FAR too long and has become FAR too annoying.
Most will argue, YOU WANT ME TO WIPE MY PICTURES AND ALL MY APPS OFF MY DEVICE? WHY WOULD I DO THAT JUST TO FLASH A ROM?!?! THAT'S ANARCHY! EVERYONE GRAB YOUR TORCHES AND PITCH FORKS!!!
Like I said...I back stuff up to a COMPUTER first, and if you don't want to? Then don't! But don't ask why your scanner is eating battery when this is here telling you of all the phones I work on THAT battery drain doesn't exist unless they didn't follower a scenario.
Etc - On a side note, to safe guard your phone from flashing woes I recommend the following. BACKING up your EFS partition before you do ANY flashing and back it up to a SAFE location, External Hard Drive, that USB you only use to keep your Ex Wife's picture's on, wherever. I have seen people lose their IMEI but I have never done it personally, but after the horror shows, I make people safeguard their precious phone code. One can do this EASILY by the following!
Boot into TWRP, press back up, then uncheck everything on this list until EFS, check that one and swipe to backup. That's it.
If you lose you IMEI, and don't have a EFS backup, you are screwed. Asking XDA for a backup of the EFS partition is against the rules and you will not find help from the community and will need to send your phone in for repairs.
Etc 2 - If you are not one to regularly clean and Defrag your HDD(Mac/Linux not included), I highly recommend so. Sometimes roms aren't bad downloads, but bad file's allocated to a broken disk file structure, after I have upgraded to SSD's a few years back, I always cleaned and defragged my disk before a rom download and I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS FOR YOUR PHONES SAFETY but I don't check MD5 sums. I turst my clean drives to do their job and for the past few years I have had great success.
If you are interested in upgrading to a SSD which I highly recommend, this can be done very easily and cheap nowadays! PNY sells a very fast and so far reliable SSD on amazon for $40 for a 120gb and 60 for a 240gb! Very fast I/O and 550MBPs read and 520MBPs write!
Be sure to blow up this thread and tell me why I am wrong, or why you refuse to wipe internal. Your stubborn mistake is easily fixed.
Thanks friends and for those of you this helps let me know!:victory: and as always, HAPPY FLASHING!
Got lost in all the words because I have A.D.D. However I have solved this wakelock by removing corrupted files from my internal storage.
TL;DR. To much family background

Had you not approached this in an instigating fashion, I would not be here right now.
But as you worded this to entice trolls, flames and other dramatic posts, I'm going to stop this before it escalates.
Next time just post your method and save the dramatics. :good:
Thread closed. No troll bait today.
